2. Observation of a Pinched-Loop in a Current-Excited Inductive Circuit

Abstract

In this work, we show that a pinched-loop can be observed in the voltage-current plane when a series R-L circuit is current excited. Specifically, the resistance (R) in this circuit is variable and is voltage-controlled by the voltage developed across the inductor due to the exciting current. In this context, we confirm our previous results that the pinched-loop is not a characteristic of memrsitors or memrsitive systems and that it can be observed in many other nonlinear systems. Abstract

Summary: An updated definition of group delay bandwidth in analog filters is introduced in this work. Unlike existing definitions, this new definition considers simultaneously the value of the group delay and filter gain, leading to minimized distortion in the filter output. In addition, it offers the capability of handling wide‐band signals without introducing errors in the shape of their envelopes. 35. Closed-Form Expressions for the Input Impedance of Some 2-D Fractal Circuit Networks

Abstract

We derive closed form expressions for the input impedance of two-dimensional (2-D) infinite ladder-tree and tree-ladder networks using the combination of results for the input impedance of an infinite 1-D ladder network and an infinite 1-D tree network. We show that the effect of the number of branches in the tree network can always be absorbed via impedance scaling resulting in a universal formula derived in this brief. The meaningful number of branches of the tree network is shown to be either two branches; i.e., a binary tree, or four branches; i.e., a quaternary tree. Special cases of component choices are investigated, and both circuit simulations and experimental results are provided to validate the theory.

Abstract

In this work, we explore the behavior of a classical RLC resonance-based bandpass filter, which includes two resistors (one of which is associated with a non-ideal inductor), when either of these resistors is self voltage-controlled. In particular, self-feedback control is achieved by using the voltage developed across the inductor or the capacitor to dynamically change the value of the controlled resistor. This results in a multiplication-type non-linearity, which transforms the linear filter into a non-linear filter described by a set of non-linear differential equations. When gradually increasing the strength of the non-linearity, a notch-like behavior is observed at twice the resonance frequency. However, the non-linear filter can lose its stability with excessive feedback. Simulations and experimental results are provided to support the theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
