Abstract

The radiation power of the FEL with optical cavity can be limited by the overheating of reflecting mirrors. In the electron outcoupling scheme electron beam radiates the main power at a slight angle to the optical axis. For this, it is necessary to divide undulator by a dipole magnet at least in two parts - the first for the electron beam bunching in the field of the main optical mode, and the second for the power radiation by deflected beam. Electron outcoupling system is installed on the third FEL based on the multiturn energy recovery linac of the Novosibirsk Free Electron Laser facility (NovoFEL). It consists of three undulators, dipole correctors and two quadrupole lenses assembled between them. There are two different configurations of the system since the electrons can be deflected in either the second or the third undulator. Abstract

Parameters and dynamics of the electron beam of the Novosibirsk infrared Free Electron Laser are studied. The Novosibirsk FEL is based on the multi-turn energy recovery linac (ERL). The ERL operate in CW mode with an average beam current about 5 mA. Therefore non-destructive beam diagnostic methods are preferable. The beam energy at the last track of the ERL is 42 MeV. As a result, significant part of synchrotron radiation from bending magnets is in the visible range and can be used for diagnostic purposes. The transverse beam dimensions were measured with the optical diagnostics before (transition radiation) and after (synchrotron radiation from a bending magnet) the undulator applied for generation of middle-infrared coherent radiation. Abstract

A new low-frequency CW RF gun was developed and tested at Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics recently. We plan to use it to upgrade the ERL of the Novosibirsk FEL facility. It will allow increasing the average beam current (due to higher beam repetition rate) and thus increasing the average radiation power. The transport beamline for the RF gun uses the ninety-degree achromatic bend. It is designed in a way that keeps an option to operate with the old electrostatic gun as well. Due to the low beam energy (290 keV) the beam dynamics is strongly influenced by space-charge forces. The paper describes results of simulation and optimization of the RF gun transport beamline. Space-charge forces were taken into account with the code ASTRA. Main sources of emittance degradation were considered in order to decrease their influence during the optimization. In addition, the RF gun output beam parameters were measured for various RF gun emission phases. These experiments were simulated and the results were compared. Abstract

The harms of bottled water at Rutgers University, It is necessary to limit or terminate the usage of water bottles at University Campuses. The issue of concern is that plastic bottles are not eco-friendly and are marketed as if water bottled is better than filter water or tap water. Our group’s objective is to convince Rutgers University to purchase Brita filters for all dormitory rooms. In addition, we will also demonstrate how using the eco-friendly canteen is a safer and better alternative to bottled water because you can refill and reuse it. Ultimately we want to restrict the usage of bottled water at Rutgers.
