Abstract

This paper presents novel types of polarizers that are composed of grooved circular waveguides. The presented polarizers are suitable for realizing high-performance and low-fabrication cost in the K a-band and above because of simple structure. Accurate analysis and design of the polarizers are performed using full-wave mode-matching techniques applied to the circular-to-rectangular waveguide T-junctions and cross-junctions. K a-band grooved circular waveguide polarizers fabricated with the aid of the analysis and design techniques have realized excellent performance without tuning elements. Abstract

本稿は、重要な近代思想の一つとして昨今注目されつつある優生学が、一九三〇年代から十五年戦争期にかけての日本でいかなる位相にあったかについて論ずるものである。この時代には、「日本民族衛生学会」の創設など、二〇世紀初頭以来日本に浸透してきた優生思想が政治的・思想的運動として本格化してゆくと同時に、他方で満州事変を契機とする陸軍の「国防国家」建設がはじまる。本稿ではこの「国防国家」と優生学の関係について、当時の優生学の中心的担い手であった医学者の古屋芳雄の思想と行動をてがかりに考察する。その際の筆者の論点は以下の二つに大約されるだろう。すなわち一つには、かつて白樺派の同人であった古屋が、「正常な科学」である優生学に傾倒する論理のなかに、「近代」のもつアクチュアルな問題性を観相することであり、いま一つは彼の思想の強い影響をうけつつ生成した「国防国家」の優生学を、ファシズムを「近代の病理」として認識する契機として位置づけることである。, The purpose of this paper is to examine the position of eugenics in Japan during the 1930's-40's, in this period, eugenics, which had already penetrated into Japanese society since the beginning of the twentieth century, developed along with certain movements in politics. The Japanese army started establishing the "Defence State" around the same time. In this paper, the relation between the "Defence State" and Japanese eugenics is considered, focusing on the thoughts and actions of Koya Yoshio, who was one of the central figures in Japanese eugenics at the time. Sci Rep 5, 14254 (2015). https://doi.org/10.1038/srep14254, Calnexin (CANX) and calreticulin (CALR) chaperones mediate nascent glycoprotein folding in the endoplasmic reticulum. Here we report that these chaperones have distinct roles in male and female fertility. Canx null mice are growth retarded but fertile. Calr null mice die during embryonic development, rendering indeterminate any effect on reproduction. Therefore, we conditionally ablated Calr in male and female germ cells using Stra8 (mcKO) and Zp3 (fcKO) promoter-driven Cre recombinase, respectively. Calr mcKO male mice were fertile, but fcKO female mice were sterile despite normal mating behavior. Strikingly, we found that Calr fcKO female mice had impaired folliculogenesis and decreased ovulatory rates due to defective proliferation of cuboidal granulosa cells. Oocyte-derived, TGF-beta family proteins play a major role in follicular development and molecular analysis revealed that the normal processing of GDF9 and BMP15 was defective in Calr fcKO oocytes. These findings highlight the importance of CALR in female reproduction and demonstrate that compromised CALR function leads to ovarian insufficiency and female infertility.
