Chromospheric jets are plausible agents of energy and mass transport in the solar chromosphere, although their driving mechanisms have not yet been elucidated. Magnetic field measurements are key for distinguishing the driving mechanisms of chromospheric jets. We performed a full Stokes synthesis in the infrared range with a realistic radiative magnetohydrodynamics simulation that generated a chromospheric jet to predict spectro-polarimetric observations from the Sunrise Chromospheric Infrared spectro-Polarimeter (SCIP) onboard the SUNRISE III balloon telescope. The jet was launched by the collision between the transition region and an upflow driven by the ascending motion of the twisted magnetic field at the envelope of the flux tube. This motion is consistent with upwardly propagating non-linear Alfvenic waves. The upflow could be detected as continuous Doppler signals in the CaII 849.8 nm line at the envelope where the dark line core intensity and strong linear polarisation coexist. The axis of the flux tube was bright in both FeI 846.8 nm and CaII 849.8 nm lines with down-flowing plasma inside it. The structure, time evolution, and Stokes signals predicted in our study will improve the physical interpretation of future spectro-polarimetric observations with SUNRISE III/SCIP., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

The physical connection between thermal convection in the solar interior and the solar wind remains unclear due to their significant scale separation. Using an extended version of the three-dimensional radiative magnetohydrodynamic code RAMENS, we perform the first comprehensive simulation of the solar wind formation, starting from the wave excitation and the small-scale dynamo below the photosphere. The simulation satisfies various observational constraints as a slow solar wind emanating from the coronal hole boundary. The magnetic energy is persistently released in the simulated corona, showing a hot upward flow at the interface between open and closed fields. To evaluate the energetic contributions from Alfv\'en wave and interchange reconnection, we develop a new method to quantify the cross-field energy transport in the simulated atmosphere. The measured energy transport from closed coronal loops to open field accounts for approximately half of the total. The large public interest in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) will soon lead to congested skies overhead cities, analogously to what happened with other transportation means, including commercial aviation. In the latter case, the combination of large distances and demanded number flights is such that a system with centralized control, with most of the decisions made by human operators, is safe. However, for AAM, it is expected a much higher demand, because it will be used for people's daily commutes. Thus, higher automation levels will become a requirement for coordinating this traffic, which might not be effectively managed by humans. The establishment of fixed air routes can abate complexity, however at the cost of limiting capacity and decreasing efficiency. Another alternative is the use of a powerful central system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which would allow flexible trajectories and higher efficiency. However, such system would require concentrated investment, could contain Single-Points-of-Failure (SPoFs), would be a highly sought target of malicious attacks, and would be subject to periods of unavailability. This work proposes a new technology that solves the problem of managing the high complexity of the AAM traffic with a secure distributed approach, without the need for a proprietary centralized automation system. This technology enables distributed airspace allocation management and conflict resolution by means of trusted shared data structures and associated smart contracts running on a blockchain ecosystem. This way, it greatly reduces the risk of system outages due to SPoFs, by allowing peer-to-peer conflict resolution, and being more resilient to failures in the ground communication infrastructure. GRB200522A is a short duration gamma-ray burst (GRB) at redshift $z$=0.554 characterized by a bright infrared counterpart. A possible, although not unambiguous, interpretation of the observed emission is the onset of a luminous kilonova powered by a rapidly rotating and highly-magnetized neutron star, known as magnetar. A bright radio flare, arising from the interaction of the kilonova ejecta with the surrounding medium, is a prediction of this model. Whereas the available dataset remains open to multiple interpretations (e.g. afterglow, r-process kilonova, magnetar-powered kilonova), long-term radio monitoring of this burst may be key to discriminate between models. We present our late-time upper limit on the radio emission of GRB200522A, carried out with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array at 288 days after the burst. For kilonova ejecta with energy $E_{\rm ej} \approx 10^{53} \rm erg$, as expected for a long-lived magnetar remnant, we can already rule out ejecta masses $M_{\rm ej} \lesssim0.03 \mathrm{M}_\odot$ for the most likely range of circumburst densities $n\gtrsim 10^{-3}$ cm$^{-3}$. Observations on timescales of $\approx$3-10 yr after the merger will probe larger ejecta masses up to $M_{\rm ej} \sim 0.1 \mathrm{M}_\odot$, providing a robust test to the magnetar scenario., Comment: Accepted for publication on MNRAS letters

We predict linear polarization for a radioactively-powered kilonova following the merger of a black hole and a neutron star. Specifically, we perform 3-D Monte Carlo radiative transfer simulations for two different models, both featuring a lanthanide-rich dynamical ejecta component from numerical-relativity simulations while only one including an additional lanthanide-free disk wind component. We calculate polarization spectra for nine different orientations at 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 d after the merger and in the $0.1-2\,\mu$m wavelength range. We find that both models are polarized at a detectable level 1.5 d after the merger while show negligible levels thereafter. The polarization spectra of the two models are significantly different. The model lacking a disk wind shows no polarization in the optical, while a signal increasing at longer wavelengths and reaching $\sim1\%-6\%$ at $2\,\mu$m depending on the orientation. The model with a disk-wind component, instead, features a characteristic "double-peak" polarization spectrum with one peak in the optical and the other in the infrared. Polarimetric observations of future events will shed light on the debated neutron richness of the disk-wind component. The detection of optical polarization would unambiguously reveal the presence of a lanthanide-free disk-wind component, while polarization increasing from zero in the optical to a peak in the infrared would suggest a lanthanide-rich composition for the whole ejecta. Future polarimetric campaigns should prioritize observations in the first $\sim48$ hours and in the $0.5-2\,\mu$m range, where polarization is strongest, but also explore shorter wavelengths/later times where no signal is expected from the kilonova and the interstellar polarization can be safely estimated., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures; accepted for publication in MNRAS

The possibility of p-wave pairing in superconductors has been proposed more than five decades ago, but has not yet been convincingly demonstrated. One difficulty is that some p-wave states are thermodynamically indistinguishable from s-wave, while others are very similar to d-wave states. Here we studied the self-field critical current of NdFeAs(O,F) thin films in order to extract absolute values of the London penetration depth, the superconducting energy gap, and the relative jump in specific heat at the superconducting transition temperature, and find that all the deduced physical parameters strongly indicate that NdFeAs(O,F) is a bulk p-wave superconductor. Further investigation revealed that single atomic layer FeSe also shows p-wave pairing. In an attempt to generalize these findings, we re-examined the whole inventory of superfluid density measurements in iron-based superconductors show quite generally that most of the iron-based superconductors are p-wave superconductors., Comment: 35 pages, 15 figures

An epitaxial NdFeAs(O,F) thin film of 90 nm thickness grown by molecular beam epitaxy on MgO single crystal with Tc = 44.2 K has been investigated regarding a possible vortex glass-liquid tran-sition. The voltage-current characteristics show excellent scalability according to the vortex-glass model with a static critical exponent {\nu} of around 1.35 and a temperature-dependent dynamic exponent z increasing from 7.8 to 9.0 for the investigated temperature range. We reanalyze the Imaging Photopolarimeter data from Pioneer 10 to study the zodiacal light in the B and R bands beyond Earth orbit, applying an improved method to subtract integrated star light (ISL) and diffuse Galactic light (DGL). We found that there exists a significant instrumental offset, making it difficult to examine the absolute sky brightness. Instead, we analyzed the differential brightness, i.e., the difference in sky brightness from the average at high ecliptic latitude, and compared with that expected from the model zodiacal light. At a heliocentric distance of r<2 au, we found a fairly good correlation between the J-band model zodiacal light and the residual sky brightness after subtracting the ISL and DGL. The reflectances of the interplanetary dust derived from the correlation study are marginally consistent with previous works. The zodiacal light is not significantly detectable at r>3 au, as previously reported. However, a clear discrepancy from the model is found at r=2.94 au which indicates the existence of a local dust cloud produced by the collision of asteroids or dust trail from active asteroids (or main-belt comets). Our result confirms that the main component of the zodiacal light (smooth cloud) is consistent with the model even beyond the earth orbit, which justifies the detection of the extragalactic background light after subtracting the zodiacal light based on the model., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

We report near-infrared (IR) observations of high Galactic latitude clouds to investigate diffuse Galactic light (DGL), which is starlight scattered by interstellar dust grains. The observations were performed at $1.1$ and $1.6\,\rm{\mu m}$ with a wide-field camera instrument, the Multi-purpose Infra-Red Imaging System (MIRIS) onboard the Korean satellite STSAT-3. The DGL brightness is measured by correlating the near-IR images with a far-IR $100\,\rm{\mu m}$ map of interstellar dust thermal emission. The wide-field observation of DGL provides the most accurate DGL measurement achieved to date. We also find a linear correlation between optical and near-IR DGL in the MBM32 field. To study interstellar dust properties in MBM32, we adopt recent dust models with or without $\rm{\mu m}$-sized very large grains and predict the DGL spectra, taking into account reddening effect of interstellar radiation field. The result shows that observed color of the near-IR DGL is closer to the model spectra without very large grains. This may imply that dust growth in the observed MBM32 field is not active owing to its low density of interstellar medium., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures, accepted for PASJ

The rigid-intensity-shift model of differential phase contrast scanning transmission electron microscopy (DPC-STEM) imaging assumes that the phase gradient imposed on the probe by the sample causes the diffraction pattern intensity to shift rigidly by an amount proportional to that phase gradient. This behaviour is seldom realised exactly in practice. Through a combination of experimental results, analytical modelling and numerical calculations, we explore the breakdown of the rigid-intensity-shift behaviour and how this depends on the magnitude of the phase gradient and the relative scale of features in the phase profile and the probe size. We present guidelines as to when the rigid-intensity-shift model can be applied for quantitative phase reconstruction using segmented detectors, and propose probe-shaping strategies to further improve the accuracy., Comment: 13 pages

We present a photometric catalog for Spitzer Space Telescope warm mission observations of the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP; centered at $\rm R.A.=18^h00^m00^s$, $\rm Decl.=66^d33^m38^s.552$). The observations are conducted with IRAC in 3.6 $\mu$m and 4.5 $\mu$m bands over an area of 7.04 deg$^2$ reaching 1$\sigma$ depths of 1.29 $\mu$Jy and 0.79 $\mu$Jy in the 3.6 $\mu$m and 4.5 $\mu$m bands respectively. The photometric catalog contains 380,858 sources with 3.6 $\mu$m and 4.5 $\mu$m band photometry over the full-depth NEP mosaic. Point source completeness simulations show that the catalog is 80% complete down to 19.7 AB. The accompanying catalog can be utilized in constraining the physical properties of extra-galactic objects, studying the AGN population, measuring the infrared colors of stellar objects, and studying the extra-galactic infrared background light., Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures and 3 tables. We describe the first ever implementation of an emulsion multi-stage shifter in an accelerator neutrino experiment. The system was installed in the neutrino monitor building in J-PARC as a part of a test experiment T60 and stable operation was maintained for a total of 126.6 days. By applying time information to emulsion films, various results were obtained. Time resolutions of 5.3 to 14.7 s were evaluated in an operation spanning 46.9 days (time resolved numbers of 3.8--1.4$\times10^{5}$). By using timing and spatial information, a reconstruction of coincident events that consisted of high multiplicity events and vertex events, including neutrino events was performed. Emulsion events were matched to events observed by INGRID, one of near detectors of the T2K experiment, with high reliability (98.5\%) and hybrid analysis was established via use of the multi-stage shifter. The results demonstrate that the multi-stage shifter is feasible for use in neutrino experiments.

Precise neutrino--nucleus interaction measurements in the sub-multi GeV region are important to reduce the systematic uncertainty in future neutrino oscillation experiments. Furthermore, the excess of ${\nu_e}$ interactions, as a possible interpretation of the existence of a sterile neutrino has been observed in such an energy region. The nuclear emulsion technique can measure all the final state particles with low energy threshold for a variety of targets (Fe, C, H${_2}$O, and so on). Its sub-$\mu$m position resolution allows measurements of the ${\nu_e}$ cross-section with good electron/gamma separation capability. We started a new experiment at J-PARC to study sub-multi GeV neutrino interactions by introducing the nuclear emulsion technique. The J-PARC T60 experiment has been implemented as a first step of such a project. Systematic neutrino event analysis with full scanning data in the nuclear emulsion detector was performed for the first time. As an indicator of cooperative motion in a system of Brownian particles that models two-dimensional colloidal liquids, displacement correlation tensor is calculated analytically and compared with numerical results. The key idea for the analytical calculation is to relate the displacement correlation tensor, which is a kind of four-point space-time correlation, to the Lagrangian two-time correlation of the deformation gradient tensor. Tensorial treatment of the statistical quantities, including the displacement correlation itself, allows capturing the vortical structure of the cooperative motion. The calculated displacement correlation also implies a negative longtime tail in the velocity autocorrelation, which is a manifestation of the cage effect. Both the longitudinal and transverse components of the displacement correlation are found to be expressible in terms of a similarity variable, suggesting that the cages are nested to form a self-similar structure in the space-time., Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures; "X" in math intended as a capital "chi"; accepted by Phys. We report spatial fluctuation analysis of the sky brightness in near-infrared from observations toward the north ecliptic pole (NEP) by the AKARI at 2.4 and 3.2 micron. As a follow up study of our previous work on the Monitor field of AKARI, we used NEP deep survey data, which covered a circular area of about 0.4 square degrees, in order to extend fluctuation analysis at angular scales up to 1000". We found residual fluctuation over the estimated shot noise at larger angles than the angular scale of the Monitor field. The excess fluctuation of the NEP deep field smoothly connects with that of the Monitor field at angular scales with a few hundreds arcseconds and extends without any significant variation to larger angular scales up to 1000". By comparing excess fluctuations at two wavelengths, we confirm a blue spectrum feature similar to the result of the Monitor field. We find that the result of this study is consistent with Spitzer Space Telescope observations at 3.6 micron. The origin of the excess fluctuation in the near-infrared background remains to be answered, but we could exclude zodiacal light, diffuse Galactic light, and unresolved faint galaxies at low-redshift based on the comparison with mid- and far-infrared brightness, ground based near-infrared images., Comment: 35 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We report measurements of the Diffuse Galactic Light (DGL) spectrum in the near-infrared, spanning the wavelength range 0.95-1.65 {\mu}m by the Cosmic Infrared Background ExpeRiment (CIBER). Using the low-resolution spectrometer (LRS) calibrated for absolute spectro-photometry, we acquired long-slit spectral images of the total diffuse sky brightness towards four high-latitude fields spread over four sounding rocket flights. To separate the DGL spectrum from the total sky brightness, we correlated the spectral images with a 100 {\mu}m intensity map, which traces the dust column density in optically thin regions. The measured DGL spectrum shows no resolved features and is consistent with other DGL measurements in the optical and at near-infrared wavelengths longer than 1.8 {\mu}m. Our result implies that the continuum is consistently reproduced by models of scattered starlight in the Rayleigh scattering regime with a few large grains., Comment: 31 pages, 14 figures, 2 tables

We reanalyze data of near-infrared background taken by Infrared Telescope in Space (IRTS) based on up-to-date observational results of zodiacal light, integrated star light and diffuse Galactic light. We confirm the existence of residual isotropic emission, which is slightly lower but almost the same as previously reported. At wavelengths longer than 2 {\mu}m, the result is fairly consistent with the recent observation with AKARI. We also perform the same analysis using a different zodiacal light model by Wright and detected residual isotropic emission that is slightly lower than that based on the original Kelsall model.
