6. A mathematically rigorous approach raises questions concerning the generalized Hartman effect

Quantum Physics - Abstract
With reference to a particle tunneling through two successive barriers, it seems to have been generally accepted that the tunneling time does not depend on the separation distance between the barriers. This phenomenon has been called the {\it generalized Hartman effect}. In this letter, we point out a lack of mathematical rigour in the reasoning by which this effect was deduced about ten years ago. A mathematically rigorous treatment shows us that the tunneling time does indeed depend on the length of the free space between the barriers., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

Quantum Physics - Abstract
We find a quantum mechanical formulation of proper time for spin 1/2 particles within the framework of the Dirac theory. It is shown that the rate of proper time can be represented by an operator called the ` ` tempo operator'', and that the proper time itself be given by the integral of the expectation value of the operator. The tempo operator has some terms involving the Pauli spin matrices, and the evolution of the proper time is influenced by the spin state via these terms. The relation between the tempo operator and the metric tensor is elucidated., Comment: 15 pages, no figure

Quantum Physics - Abstract
We find a quantum mechanical formulation of proper time for spin 1/2 particles within the framework of the Dirac theory. It is shown that an operator corresponds to the rate of the proper time and that the operator contains terms which oscillate with a very high frequency. We deduce, as an effect of these terms, the existence of an interference between the magnetic field and the rate of proper time. There is a possibility that the conclusion derived in this letter has some implications for astrophysics.

10. Uncertainty principle for proper time and mass II

Quantum Physics - Abstract
When we quantize a system consisting of a single particle, the proper time $\tau $ and the rest mass $m$ are usually dealt with as parameters. In the present article, however, we introduce a new quantization rule by which these quantities are regarded as operators in addition to the position and the momentum. Applying this new rule to a scalar particle and to a particle with spin $ 1/2 $, we analyze the time evolution of the operator $\tau $. In the former case, the evolution of the proper time perfectly matches several well-established classical formulae. In the case of the particle with spin 1/2, our new rule implies that an oscillation appears in the time evolution of the operator $\tau $. This oscillation is similar to Zitterbewegung which is well-known in the ordinary Dirac theory. We formulate one physical effect of this oscillation by considering the interaction with a gravitational field, and estimate how small it is., Comment: 15 pages, LaTex

Quantum Physics - Abstract
We review Bohr's reasoning in the Bohr-Einstein debate on the photon box experiment. The essential point of his reasoning leads us to an uncertainty relation between the proper time and the rest mass of the clock. It is shown that this uncertainty relation can be derived if only we take the fundamental point of view that the proper time should be included as a dynamic variable in the Lagrangian describing the system of the clock. Some problems and some positive aspects of our approach are then discussed., Comment: 15 pages, accepted for publication in J. Math. Phys

- Abstract
This research outlines the development of evaluating safety measures for bicycle traffic using state-of-the-art technology, which was started since 2020 as a four-year project. The project is funded by the Commission on Advanced Road Technology in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism(MLIT). While Japan has a high bicycle modal share of 12% (2010), bicycle-related fatalities are relatively high among other countries in the IRTAD database (2019). Under these circumstances, since 2007, various measures for bicycle traffic measures have been implemented to improve the safe bicycle traffic environment, including the revision of the Road Traffic Act and the formulation of a national plan to promote bicycle use. However, serious accidents involving bicycles are remained in some specific cases. According to the government's traffic accident analysis results (2019), right-hook crash at signalized intersections are one of the most serious types of collision involving bicycles, along with accidents at unsignalized intersections involving vehicles turning left, rear-end collisions, and single vehicle accidents due to off-road deviation. In particular, proactive safety measures are required at signalized intersections along arterial roads, where electric personal mobility vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 20 km/h are expected to share with bicycles in the future. In order to evaluate safety measures for bicycle-vehicle crashes, this project set the following goals. 1) Identify factors influencing near-miss incidents and collisions through analysis of drive recorder data and accident statistical data. 2) Detailed analysis of traffic conditions from the cyclist's perspective using a probe bicycle equipped with a LiDAR sensor. 3) Development of an experimental environment using a connected simulator for evaluation of cooperative driving behavior. 4) Clarification of experimental conditions to evaluate different scenarios and conditions with and without in

Television broadcasting -- Research ,Image coding -- Research ,Business ,Computers ,Electronics ,Electronics and electrical industries - Abstract
For contribution and primary distribution of television, i.e., television transmission to broadcasting stations, parallel transmission links that include codecs are often set up for reliability. However, this configuration still faces the following issues: 1) during normal periods, the reserve link is totally wasted and 2) when a failure occurs, the disrupted signal continues to be transmitted until the system switches to the reserve link. In addition, in digital video transmission, automatic assessment of received video quality is an important issue. To address these issues, the authors developed a processing system for parallelly transmitted video signals, which mainly consists of the following three elements: 1) when both links are normal, outputting the average signal of both links reduces compression coding noise and improves picture quality compared to only one link (efficiency); 2) comparison of the pictures from the two links enables failure detection in either link, to switch to the normal link (support of failure detection); and 3) comparison of the two normally decoded pictures enables evaluation of picture quality (automatic coding noise evaluation). This unique system improves the reliability and operational efficiency of conventional parallel video transmission links. Index Terms--Coding noise evaluation, efficiency, failure detection, parallel transmission, television transmission.

- Abstract
Aim: Digestive reconstruction after pharyngolaryngectomy with total esophagectomy (PLTE) remains challenging, with the optimal method remaining unclear. The current study aimed to clarify the short‐term outcomes after PLTE and determine the optimal digestive reconstruction method. Methods: Based on a nationwide survey of 151 patients who underwent PLTE, outcomes of digestive reconstruction methods are described. Results: Among digestive reconstruction methods, a simple gastric tube was most frequently used (37.1%), followed by gastric tube combined with free graft transfer (FGT) (35.1%), gastric tube with microvascular anastomosis (22.5%), and other procedures (5.3%). Intraoperative evaluation of microcirculation (IOEM) was utilized in 29 patients (19.2%). Among the included patients, 66.9% developed any‐grade complications, 41.0% developed severe complications, and 23.8% developed digestive reconstruction‐related complications (DRRCs; leakage or necrosis). Reoperation within 30 days for any complications and DRRCs was required in 13.9% and 8.6% of the patients, respectively. Mortality within 90 days was observed in 4.6%. Among the three major methods, gastric tube combined with FGT promoted the least DRRCs in the gastric tube (P =.005), although the overall incidence of DRRCs was comparable. The use of IOEM was significantly associated with a reduction of severe DRRCs (P =.005). Conclusions: Pharyngolaryngectomy with total esophagectomy is a high‐risk surgery significantly associated with the occurrence of postoperative morbidity and mortality. Nonetheless, the addition of FGT can help prevent gastric tip complications, while IOEM can be an effective method for improving outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GUIDANCE ,GNC ,FLIGHT TESTS ,AERODYNAMICS - Abstract
In this paper, we give the GNC system design of Small Re-entry Capsule (HSRC) integrated into HTV and describe the post-flight evaluation results. HSRC including samples was successfully recovered from the ISS in November 2018. One key design of GNC system is its re-entry guidance logic for range control using bank angle modulation with a low L/D. The guidance logic determinate commanded bank based on range predicted in real-time using numerical integration. The flight results confirmed that the proposed guidance logic effectively reduces the maximum aerodynamic acceleration during flight and improves guidance accuracy.

Pulse code modulation -- Research ,Digital communications -- Research ,Image transmission -- Research - Abstract
The motion compensated interframe differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) and discrete cosine transform (DCT) hybrid (MC DCT) coding was nominated as a standard scheme for component TV signals by ISO and ITU-R. However, in cases where an NTSC composite TV signal is used such as the United States and Japan, applying the MC DCT scheme with its luminance/chrominance separating and composing process causes unavoidable quality degradation. The reason for this additional process required for MC DCT is that a composite TV signal presents a "color subcarrier phase shift problem" in which the color subcarrier phase varies between a coding block and reference block according to the motion vector. In this paper, we propose a Walsh Hadamard Transform (WHT)-based composite motion compensated NTSC interframe direct coding scheme. In this scheme, phase shifts of a color subcarrier and modulated chrominance components between a coding block and reference block can be effectively compensated by a simple process of coefficient permutation and polarity changes of several pairs of WHT coefficients to which 100% of the subcarrier energy and most of the modulated chrominance component's energy are packed. In the motion compensated DCT scheme, however, the energy of the color subcarrier and modulated chrominance components are spread over too many coefficients and a pair-based coefficient handling rule is not given to solve this problem. This paper demonstrates that the proposed scheme provides higher coding performance for a composite NTSC signal than does the motion compensated DCT scheme with its luminance/chrominance separating and composing process.

International audience; Ticagrelor may be a more effective antiplatelet therapy than aspirin for the prevention of recurrent stroke and cardiovascular events in patients with acute cerebral ischemia.; We conducted an international double-blind, controlled trial in 674 centers in 33 countries, in which 13,199 patients with a nonsevere ischemic stroke or high-risk transient ischemic attack who had not received intravenous or intraarterial thrombolysis and were not considered to have had a cardioembolic stroke were randomly assigned within 24 hours after symptom onset, in a 1:1 ratio, to receive either ticagrelor (180 mg loading dose on day 1 followed by 90 mg twice daily for days 2 through 90) or aspirin (300 mg on day 1 followed by 100 mg daily for days 2 through 90). The primary end point was the time to the occurrence of stroke, myocardial infarction, or death within 90 days.; During the 90 days of treatment, a primary end-point event occurred in 442 of the 6589 patients (6.7%) treated with ticagrelor, versus 497 of the 6610 patients (7.5%) treated with aspirin (hazard ratio, 0.89; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.78 to 1.01; P=0.07). Ischemic stroke occurred in 385 patients (5.8%) treated with ticagrelor and in 441 patients (6.7%) treated with aspirin (hazard ratio, 0.87; 95% CI, 0.76 to 1.00). Major bleeding occurred in 0.5% of patients treated with ticagrelor and in 0.6% of patients treated with aspirin, intracranial hemorrhage in 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively, and fatal bleeding in 0.1% and 0.1%.; In our trial involving patients with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack, ticagrelor was not found to be superior to aspirin in reducing the rate of stroke, myocardial infarction, or death at 90 days. In the present study, humidifying dependence was examined at 85{degree sign}C in the cell temperature to improve MEA to which high water retentiveness was applied in the catalytic layer. The improved MEA showed higher cell voltage from the low humidifying temperature to the saturated temperature condition within all ranges compared with the previous MEA. Moreover, it successfully reduced the decreasing rate of the effective surface area of the cathode catalyst in the electrode. A 1 kW class stack to which an improved MEA, a Lossnay humidifier, and a separator plate were applied showed good performance.
