1. Localization of Pallets on Shelves Using Horizontal Plane Projection of a 360-degree Image

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a method for calculating the three-dimensional (3D) position and orientation of a pallet placed on a shelf on the side of a forklift truck using a 360-degree camera. By using a 360-degree camera mounted on the forklift truck, it is possible to observe both the pallet at the side of the forklift and one several meters ahead. However, the pallet on the obtained image is observed with different distortion depending on its 3D position, so that it is difficult to extract the pallet from the image. To solve this problem, a method [1] has been proposed for detecting a pallet by projecting a 360-degree image on a vertical plane that coincides with the front of the shelf to calculate an image similar to the image seen from the front of the shelf. At the same time as the detection, the approximate position and orientation of the detected pallet can be obtained, but the accuracy is not sufficient for automatic control of the forklift truck. In this paper, we propose a method for accurately detecting the yaw angle, which is the angle of the front surface of the pallet in the horizontal plane, by projecting the 360-degree image on a horizontal plane including the boundary line of the front surface of the detected pallet. The position of the pallet is also determined by moving the vertical plane having the detected yaw angle back and forth, and finding the position at which the degree of coincidence between the projection image on the vertical plane and the actual size of the front surface of the pallet is maximized. Experiments using real images taken in a laboratory and an actual warehouse have confirmed that the proposed method can calculate the position and orientation of a pallet within a reasonable calculation time and with the accuracy necessary for inserting the fork into the hole in the front of the pallet.

Abstract

Various disorders cause hyperammonemia during childhood. Among them are those caused by inherited defects in urea synthesis and related metabolic pathways. These disorders can be grouped into two types: disorders of the enzymes that comprise the urea cycle, and disorders of the transporters or metabolites of the amino acids related to the urea cycle. Principal clinical features of these disorders are caused by elevated levels of blood ammonium. Additional disease-specific symptoms are related to the particular metabolic defect. These specific clinical manifestations are often due to an excess or lack of specific amino acids. Treatment of urea cycle disorders and related metabolic diseases consists of nutritional restriction of proteins, administration of specific amino acids, and use of alternative pathways for discarding excess nitrogen. Although combinations of these treatments are extensively employed, the prognosis of severe cases remains unsatisfactory. Abstract

A human disorder caused by mutation in nonmuscle actin has not been reported. We report here a variant of nonmuscle actin in a female patient with recurrent infections, photosensitivity, and mental retardation. She also had abnormalities in neutrophil chemotaxis, superoxide production, and membrane potential response. Two-dimensional PAGE analysis of proteins from neutrophils and other cell types from this patient demonstrated a unique protein spot migrating at 42 kda with pI shifted slightly to neutral relative to normal [Beta]- and [Gamma]-actin. Digestion peptide mapping and Western blotting showed this spot to be an abnormal actin. A full-length cDNA library was constructed by using mRNA from patient's cells and cDNA encoding the mutant [Beta]-actin molecule was identified by an in vitro translation method. Sequencing of the clones demonstrated a G-1174 to A substitution, predicting a glutamic acid-364 to lysine substitution in [Beta]-actin and eliminating a HinfI DNase restriction site found in normal [Beta]-actin sequence. By HinfI digestion and by sequencing, the mutation in one allele of patient's genomic DNA was confirmed. Though no defect in cell-free polymerization of actin was detected, this defect lies in a domain important for binding to profilin and other actin-regulatory molecules. In fact, the mutant actin bound to profilin less efficiently than normal actin did. Heterozygous expression of mutant [Beta]-actin in neutrophils and other cells of this patient may act in a dominant-negative fashion to adversely affect cellular activities dependent on the function of nonmuscle actin.

Abstract

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) is associated with mutations in the TRKA gene, which encodes a high-affinity tyrosine kinase receptor for nerve growth factor. Eleven new TRKA mutations have been identified in seven families affected with CIPA. The families are from Kuwait, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Spain and Canada. The mutations occur in both the extracellular domain and the intracellular signal-transduction domain of the gene.
