Context: Sport-specific adaptations in shoulder rotation range of motion (ROM) and the relationship with humeral torsion have been described in overhead-throwing sports. However, information is lacking for other shoulder-loading sports such as field hockey. Therefore, this study's purpose was to evaluate humeral torsion in elite, male field hockey players and explore its association with shoulder ROM. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-five male, elite field hockey players were included. Humeral torsion and shoulder external and internal rotation ROM were evaluated bilaterally by ultrasound and an inclinometer smartphone application, respectively. Results: Field hockey players showed a significantly increased humeral retroversion on the dominant compared with the nondominant side (P <.001; Cohen d = 1.75), along with a significantly increased external (P =.004; Cohen d = −0.64) and decreased internal rotation ROM (P =.003; Cohen d = 0.65). This finding illustrates a shift in total shoulder rotational ROM arc. Correlation analysis showed a significant moderate association between the increased humeral retroversion and decreased internal rotation ROM on the dominant side (r =.523). Conclusions: Elite male field hockey athletes show sport-specific adaptations regarding humeral torsion and shoulder rotation ROM, similar to throwing athletes. These findings increase our insight into the field hockey athlete's shoulder, which is essential to optimize performance and assist in correctly interpreting shoulder rotational ROM measurements. Despite previous support for plyometric training, optimal dosing strategies remain unclear. Purpose: To investigate vertical and horizontal jump kinetic performance following a low-volume plyometric stimulus with progressively increased session jump volume. Methods: Sixteen academy rugby players (20.0 [2.0] y; 103.0 [17.6] kg; 184.3 [5.5] cm) volunteered for this study. Vertical and horizontal jump sessions were conducted 1 week apart and consisted of a 40-jump low-volume plyometric stimulus using 4 exercises, after which volume was progressively increased to 200 jumps, using countermovement jump (CMJ) for vertical sessions and horizontal broad jump (HBJ) for horizontal sessions. Jump performance was assessed via force-plate analysis at baseline (PRE-0), following the low-volume plyometric stimulus (P-40), and every subsequent 10 jumps until the end of the session (P-50, P-60, P-70,... P-200). Results: The low-volume stimulus was effective in potentiating HBJ (2% to 5%) but not CMJ (0% to −7%) performance (P <.001). The HBJ performance enhancements were maintained throughout the entire high-volume session, while CMJ realized small but significant decrements (−5% to −7%) in jump height P-50 to P-80 before recovering to presession values. Moreover, increases in eccentric impulse (5% to 24%; P <.001) in both sessions were associated with decreased or maintained concentric impulse, indicating a breakdown in performance-augmenting mechanisms and less effective power transfer concentrically after moderate volumes. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how the amount of home language use between the primary caregiver and bilingual Spanish- and English-speaking children with hearing loss who use cochlear implants (CIs) versus their bilingual age-matched peers with normal hearing (NH) can impact speech outcomes in the home language. Method: Thirty-four bilingual Spanish- and English-speaking children (17 CI users and 17 with NH) between the ages of 5;3 and 7;9 (years;months) participated in this study. Independent variables were the amount of home language use with the primary caregiver and hearing status, and dependent variables were vowels and consonants correctly produced and occurrence of selected phonological processes. The amount of home language use was ascertained from surveys, and the dependent measures were based on a single-word picture elicitation task. Results: Bilingual children with CIs who are exposed to Spanish for more than 80% of the time via their primary caregiver performed better on Spanish seg-mental accuracy measures than those who are exposed to Spanish from only 20% to 50% of the time, specifically on vowels (partial η² = .31) and consonants (partial η² = .025). Children with NH outperformed children with CIs on all accuracy measures in Spanish. Conclusions: Preliminary results suggest the importance of language exposure through interactions with the primary caregiver for speech development in bilingual children. Objective: We investigated if theta burst stimulation could enhance recovery by reducing key symptoms when implemented acutely post fracture in participants with an isolated upper limb fracture. Methods/Design: This was a pilot study with a randomized matched pair, sham-controlled, participant-blind design of a 10-day prolonged continuous theta burst stimulation protocol. Two main groups were included: I) participants with isolated upper limb fracture receiving active theta burst stimulation and II) patients with isolated upper limb fracture receiving SHAM/placebo. Another group (III) of healthy individuals was the reference group. Disability and pain intensity were collected through questionnaires (disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand as well as numerical rating scale (NRA)) at three time points (baseline; 72 hrs after intervention, 3 mos after injury). Group III completed the baseline assessment. Results: Seventy-nine participants were enrolled. Individuals in the ACTIVE and SHAM groups had similar baseline measures. For disability, the interaction between intervention and time approached significance (F = 2.33; P = 0.11), whereas it was significant for pain (F = 3.42; P = 0.04). At 3 mos after injury, the ACTIVE group reported reduced disability (F = 4.71; P = 0.04) and pain (F = 5.84; P = 0.02) at 3 mos after injury compared to the SHAM group, with clinical measures from ACTIVE group being like controls. Conclusions: In isolated upper limb fracture patients, a 10-day theta burst stimulation intervention implemented acutely posttraumatic had beneficial effects on symptoms of functional recovery and pain at 3 mos after trauma. The development of professional skills is essential for biology students to be successful in their future careers. However, current teaching approaches often fail to provide adequate training. The aim of this theory to practice study was to develop an effective methodology for improving the professional skills of biology students through laboratory work. Theoretical and diagnostic methods, mathematical statistics, empirical methods, and a questionnaire were used. The results showed a significant increase in competencies after the laboratory training intervention. Students demonstrated significant improvements in technical skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication. In conclusion, structured practical laboratory training shows promise for enhancing the professional capabilities of aspiring biologists. The practical value of this study is to develop work skills, independent decision-making ability, and professional skills, in line with the requirements of modern scientific community. Aim: Our study investigates the feasibility and utility of implementing a dual joystick-operated ride-on-toy navigation training (RNT) program within a 3-week intensive camp based on principles of modified constraint-induced movement therapy and bimanual training, to improve upper extremity (UE) function in children with unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP). Methods: We employed a single-group pretest posttest, mixed methods study design. Eleven 4-to-10-year-old children with UCP received RNT as part of camp activities. Sessions required children to use both arms together for navigation and completing gross and fine motor UE challenges. We collected exit questionnaires from children, caregivers, and clinicians to assess the feasibility, acceptance, enjoyment, and perceived efficacy of RNT. Videos of training sessions were coded using Datavyu behavioral coding software to assess children's facial expressions and affective states, indicative of their level of engagement during intervention sessions. Results: We found high levels of child engagement during RNT sessions based on video data and stakeholder feedback. The RNT program was smoothly integrated into the camp. Stakeholders acknowledged the highly motivating nature of RNT. When combined with other camp activities, the program led to stakeholder-reported improvements in bimanual skills and spontaneous daily use of the affected UE. Conclusions: Our pilot study provides promising evidence for using joystick-operated ride-on toys as engaging therapy adjuncts. When evaluating the suitability of using coal in various industries, it is subjected to technical analysis and a number of special technological studies. The obtained results in combination with elemental and group analysis allow choosing the most rational and economically efficient directions of their use, which plays not the least role in determining the economic significance of coal mining deposits. Background: Long-term management of patients with hypothyroidism on thyroxine replacement requires thyroid function test (TFT) monitoring once every six–12 months as recommended by clinical practice guidelines. This study determined their thyroid function status during two-year follow-up visits in primary care, and the factors influencing their thyroid status, and assessed the optimal interval for TFTs. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on adults with a clinical diagnosis code for hypothyroidism in their electronic health records taken from a group of polyclinics in Singapore between July 2017 and June 2020. The follow-up thyroid status was categorized as under-replacement (TSH ≥ 3.70mIU/L), over-replacement (TSH ≤ 0.65mIU/L) or euthyroid (TSH 0.65–3.70mIU/L). The patients' demographic, clinical and TFT data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests during the two-year follow-up. Stepwise logistic regression analysis identified the factors associated with suboptimal thyroid control. Kaplan–Meier analysis was used to compare their thyroid function status in association with the interval between TFT monitoring. Results: Data from 5,749 eligible subjects (mean age 62.1 ± 13.29 years; 79% female; 79.7% Chinese) were analyzed. After a two-year follow-up, 61.9% (n = 3558) of all subjects were euthyroid, with 29.5% (n = 1694) being under-replaced and 8.6% (n = 497) over-replaced. However, thyroid status did not differ significantly with the various dose regimen (daily, segmented, or alternate days) (p = 0.193). Stepwise logistic regression showed that thyroxine under-replacement was significantly associated with the male gender (AOR = 1.25,95%CI = 1.03–1.51,p = 0.02) and obesity (AOR = 1.34,95%CI = 1.08–1.66,p = 0.008). Every unit (μg/kg body weight) increase in the mean daily thyroxine dose was associated with 2.72 times greater odds of over-replacement. When comparing thyroid function monitoring at intervals of 13-24 months, monitoring at shorter intervals (≤ 12 months) was less likely to detect thyroxine under-replacement (AOR = 0.57,95%CI = 0.44–0.74,p < 0.001) and over-replacement (AOR = 0.62,95%CI = 0.41–0.97,p = 0.033). Among the 3,312 adults who were euthyroid at baseline, 22.2%, 41.7% and 59.6% had suboptimal thyroid control at 6, 12 and 24 months respectively (Kaplan–Meier analysis). Conclusion: Around six in ten patients were euthyroid with thyroxine replacement for hypothyroidism in primary care over two years. Thyroxine under-replacement was associated with male gender and obesity. The proportion of euthyroid patients developing abnormal thyroid function doubled with TFTs at six, 12 and 24-month intervals. The advancement of Photovoltaic technology has undergone rapid acceleration in recent years. Nonetheless, the most significant drawback of Photovoltaic is its intermittence, making it an obvious source of power fluctuation. This study proposes a novel scheme for real‐time or intraday PV power forecasting by adopting two predictive models, namely, White‐box and Combination. The White‐box model is implemented employing mathematical calculations and statistics called Exceedance Probability. Meanwhile, the Combination model is an aggregation of several predictive models' outputs including the White‐box model and benchmark ones by dynamically adjusting the weight coefficient of each model based on their forecasting accuracy. The experimental results, which are verified on two PV systems corresponding to two case studies located at Vietnam and Australia, indicate that the two proposed models outperform other referenced models as nMAPE$\mathrm{nMAPE}$ improves approximately 40% and 38% in terms of the first and second case study, respectively. In particular, the White‐box model shows superiority by updating the forecast every 10 min, which can adapt to the fluctuation of weather conditions whereas the Combination one yields acceptable precision, indicating its flexible application. Introduction: Heritage trees have special historical, cultural, and landscape value in cities and are keystone ecological structures for urban areas. However, these trees are threatened by rapid urbanization. To facilitate the conservation and management of such trees, our study investigated ancient trees in Chengdu, which is one of the hotspot of biodiversity and Historical and Cultural cities in Southwest of China. Methods: The floristic diversity, Shannon-Wiener index (H), spatial pattern, characteristics, dimension, age, and health status of the trees were estimated by using ecological indexes and mathematical statistics. Results: A total of 9383 heritage trees belonging to 119 species in 20 districts of Chengdu were surveyed. Dujiangyan (DJY) had the largest Shannon-Weiner index (H) (2.63), species count (76), and tree count (1842) and is therefore the most important district for preserving ancient trees. In contrast, Qingyang (QY) had the largest density of trees (120 trees/10 km²) among the 20 studied districts. In terms of important species, Phoebe zhennan (2351) was the dominant species, followed by Cupressus funebris, Ginkgo biloba, and Ficus virens. Akaike information criterion weights and standard deviation ellipse analysis showed that mean annual rainfall is a critical predictor for species distribution and age. Discussion: Findings from this study suggest that reducing water stress environments will improve the management and conservation of heritage trees in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background/objectives: Considering the diverse symptomatology of COVID-19—ranging from mild to severe cases—multi-professional interventions are crucial for enhancing physical recovery, nutritional status, and mental health outcomes in affected patients. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of such an intervention on health-related physical fitness and biomarkers in overweight COVID-19 survivors with varying degrees of symptom severity after 8 weeks and 16 weeks. Methods: This non-randomized clinical trial included 59 overweight COVID-19 survivors (32 males and 27 females) divided into three groups: mild (n = 31), moderate (n = 13), and severe/critical (n = 15). The participants underwent a multi-professional program and were assessed for anthropometric and body composition (primary outcome), as well as physical fitness and biochemical markers (secondary outcome) 8 and 16 weeks before the intervention. Results: After 8 weeks, time effects were observed for the maximum isometric handgrip strength (p < 0.001), maximum isometric lumbar-traction strength (p = 0.01), flexibility (p < 0.001), abdominal strength–endurance (p < 0.001), the sit-and-stand test (p < 0.001), maximum oxygen consumption (p < 0.001), and distance covered in the 6 min walk test (p < 0.001). Additionally, time effects were also observed for fat mass (p = 0.03), body fat percentage (p = 0.02), abdominal circumference (p = 0.01), total cholesterol (p < 0.001), low-density lipoproteins (p < 0.001), and glycated hemoglobin (p < 0.001), with lower values after multi-professional interventions. After 16 weeks, the systolic and diastolic blood pressure showed significant reductions independently of the intervention group (p < 0.001). Conclusion: These findings suggest that multi-professional interventions can provide substantial benefits for post-COVID-19 patients, regardless of the severity of their initial symptoms. This work is aimed at a comprehensive solution to the problem of reliable and safe operation of a transport energy system with a high energy concentration based on a universal energy carrier - cryogenic liquid hydrogen. The article discusses the possibility of using various methods and techniques to assess the reliability of machines and equipment operated in emergency situations and extreme conditions. The obtained results are analyzed. Currently, the oil and gas complex pays great attention to the development of hydrogen technologies, as well as hydrogen energy in connection with the relevance of the Climate Agenda. In this regard, hydrogen energy facilities are of the greatest interest: cryogenic hydrogen reservoirs, cryogenic hydrogen pipelines, cryogenic oxygen reservoirs and cryogenic oxygen pipelines, as well as cryogenic reservoirs and pipelines for storing process nitrogen gas. An important role for global energy exchange is played by LH 2 tankers for transporting cryogenic hydrogen. For example, Australia and Japan built the first LH 2 tanker to transport hydrogen from Australia to Japan. In addition, another 85 LH 2 tankers are expected to be built. After transportation, cryogenic hydrogen is stored in cryogenic hydrogen storages, usually also representing cryogenic hydrogen tanks with piping in the form of cryogenic pipelines, as well as cryogenic nitrogen tanks for storing process nitrogen gas. Further, hydrogen is used in road transport, aviation, ship fleet, industry, and energy. The main elements of mobile, stationary and airborne hydrogen storage systems are under critical loads and are in the area of increased study and attention. In this regard, we considered the functions of changing the main operational characteristics, made proposals on the possibility of predicting the development of accumulated faults and proposals for ensuring safety and extending the life of objects, taking into account the determination of local and integral damage to cryogenic tanks and pipelines. Background: Advances in in vivo MRI techniques enable cerebral barrier transfer rates (Ktrans) measurement in patients with vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID). However, a consensus has not been reached on the dynamic contribution and importance of cerebral barrier abnormalities to the differential diagnosis of dementia subtypes. Our goal was to investigate the dynamics of blood-brain barrier (BBB) and blood-CSF barrier (BCSFB) Ktrans in patients with VCID longitudinally and determine the effect of aging. Methods: We studied subjects at two time points over two years; they were 65.5 years of age (SD = 15.94, M/F = 24/14) at the first visit. We studied 38 patients, 18 of whom had two visits. We calculated the BBB and BCSFB Ktrans with dynamic contrast-enhanced T1 MR, and we used 1H-MR spectroscopy to measure N-acetylaspartate (NAA) levels in the white matter as a marker of injury. In addition, we measured CSF levels of active-matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP3) as an inflammatory biomarker to aid in patient clustering. Results: Longitudinal BBB measurements revealed variable dynamic behavior: after two years, the BBB Ktrans increased in 55% of patients and decreased in the remaining 45% unpredictably. We did not find a significant linear model of BBB Ktrans versus age for VCID. For healthy controls, the model was Ktrans = 0.0014 + 0.0002 age, which was significant (p = 0.046). VCID patients showed a reduction in BCSFB Ktrans compared to healthy controls (p = 0.01). Combining NAA, CSF MMP3, and Ktrans in a clustering analysis separated patients into groups. Conclusion: These results suggest that BBB Ktrans in VCID is dynamic and BCSFB Ktrans reduced by age. By combining inflammatory biomarkers with BBB Ktrans data, it is possible to separate VCID patients into distinct groups with different underlying pathologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is significant public health concern with a rising prevalence. MetS leads to diseases such as diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension (HTN) and atherosclerotic heart disease, as well as female sexual dysfunction (FSD). However, the relationship of MetS to female sexual function in obese woman is unclear. In our study, obese women and obese women with MetS were compared. We aimed to determine whether there was a difference between the two groups in terms of FSD. Method: The study included 114 patients, aged 21-51, who visited the obesity outpatient clinic of our center from January to April 2022. Patients who met the study criteria answered the sociodemographic data questionnaire, Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure assessments were conducted during the visit, and blood tests were recorded. Results: Seventy-three (64%) patients were only obese, and 41 (36%) had a diagnosis of MetS with obesity. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of demographic data, clinical features, BDI scores, and FSFI total score. Lubrication, one of the FSFI subparameters, was found to be low in the group with MetS (p=0.028), while there was no difference in other subparameters. Conclusion: In this study, we showed that lubrication as a sign of arousal problem is affected by MetS. Patients with risk factors for FSD such as MetS, obesity, HTN, diabetes mellitus should not be ignored. Thus, it will be possible to prevent the effects of FSD on general health. Background We conducted a secondary analysis of a cohort study to examine the World Falls Guidelines algorithm's ability to stratify older people into sizable fall risk groups or whether minor modifications were necessary to achieve this. Methods Six hundred and ninety-three community-living people aged 70–90 years (52.4% women) were stratified into low, intermediate and high fall risk groups using the original algorithm and a modified algorithm applying broader Timed Up and Go test screening with a >10-s cut point (originally >15 s). Prospective fall rates and physical and neuropsychological performance among the three groups were compared. Results The original algorithm was not able to identify three sizable groups, i.e. only five participants (0.7%) were classified as intermediate risk. The modified algorithm classified 349 participants (50.3%) as low risk, 127 participants (18.3%) as intermediate risk and 217 participants (31.3%) as high risk. The sizable intermediate-risk group had physical and neuropsychological characteristics similar to the high-risk group, but a fall rate similar to the low-risk group. The high-risk group had a significantly higher rate of falls than both the low- [incidence rate ratio (IRR) = 2.52, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.99–3.20] and intermediate-risk groups (IRR = 2.19, 95% CI = 1.58–3.03). Conclusion A modified algorithm stratified older people into three sizable fall risk groups including an intermediate group who may be at risk of transitioning to high fall rates in the medium to long term. OpenCap is a web-based markerless motion capture platform that estimates 3D kinematics from videos recorded from at least two iOS devices. This study aimed to determine the concurrent validity and inter-session reliability of OpenCap for measuring trunk and lower-limb kinematics during squatting, hopping, countermovement jumping, and cutting. Nineteen participants (10 males, 9 females; age 27.7 ± 4.1 years) were included. Countermovement jump, single-leg triple vertical hop, single-leg squat, sidestep cutting and side hop tasks were assessed. For validity, OpenCap was compared to a marker-based motion capture system using root-mean-square error. Test–retest reliability of OpenCap was determined using intraclass correlations and minimum detectable change (MDC) from two testing sessions. The squat had the lowest RMSE across joint angles (mean = 7.0°, range = 2.9° to 13.6°). For peak angles, the countermovement jump (jump phase) (ICC = 0.62–0.93) and the squat (ICC = 0.60–0.92) had the best reliability across all joints. For initial contact, the side hop had the best inter-session reliability (ICC = 0.70–0.94) across all joint angles. As such, OpenCap validity and reliability are joint and task specific. Objective: Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (VVC) is a prevalent genital infection in women of reproductive age and requires effective non‐drug therapies. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of blue light emitting diode (LED) therapy as an alternative treatment for recurrent VVC due to its proven antimicrobial properties. The safety and non‐invasiveness of LED therapy make it a promising option for sensitive tissue applications. Materials and Methods: This randomized controlled trial recruited 60 women with culture‐confirmed VVC. Participants were randomly allocated to two groups. Group A (control group) received standard antifungal treatment with Gynoconazol 0.8% vaginal cream for three consecutive nights (n = 30). Group B (study group) received the same antifungal treatment plus two 60‐min sessions of blue LED therapy directed at the vagina and vulva, with the sessions separated by two days (n = 30). Candida count (via CHROMagar™ Candida) and vaginal pH (via AD110‐AD111 m) were assessed at baseline and one week after initiating treatment. Results: Post‐treatment, group (B) demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in Candida count compared to group (A) (mean difference (MD) 8.267; 95% Confidence Interval (CI) 6.723–9.811; p = 0.0001). However, there was no statistically significant difference in vaginal pH between the groups (MD −0.03; 95% CI −0.244–0.178; p = 0.749). Conclusion: Blue LED therapy effectively reduces Candida count in women with recurrent VVC without adversely affecting the vaginal pH, highlighting its safety and efficacy as a treatment modality. Background and Purpose: Assessing lower limb strength, balance, and fall risk are crucial components of rehabilitation, especially for the older adult population. With the growing interest in telehealth, teleassessment has been investigated as an alternative when in‐person assessments are not possible. The Five Times Sit‐to‐Stand test (5TSTS) provides a quick measure of balance during chair transfers, muscle power, endurance, and the hability to change and maintain body position, and is highly recommended by guidelines. However, the literature is unclear about the viability and safety of teleassessment using the 5TSTS in older adults with and without Parkinson's disease (PD). This study aimed to evaluate the reliability of teleassessment using the 5TSTS and to determine its feasibility and safety for older adults with and without PD. Methods: This cross‐sectional study included older adults with and without PD who were evaluated remotely through a videoconference platform. To ensure effective and comprehensive instructions for the test, we developed a guideline called OMPEPE (an acronym for: Objective; Materials; Position‐Start; Execution; Position‐End; Environment). We assessed the 5TSTS intra‐ and inter‐rater reliability by comparing scores obtained from the same examiner and from different examiners, respectively. Participants and examiners completed online surveys to provide information about feasibility and safety. Results: Twelve older adults with PD and 17 older adults without PD were included in this study (mean ages 69.0 and 67.6 years, respectively). Based on the participants' perspectives and the absence of adverse effects, teleassessment using the 5TSTS is feasible and safe for older adults with and without PD. Excellent intra‐ and inter‐rater reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient >0.90) was found for all measurements of the 5TSTS. Discussion: This study demonstrated the feasibility, safety, and reliability of teleassessment using the 5TSTS. The guidelines developed may help health professionals minimize barriers and safely conduct an online assessment that includes a physical test such as the 5TSTS in older adults with or without PD. In addition to addressing technological barriers, the OMPEPE guideline might ensure the optimal execution of evaluations. Background: Poor oral conditions in the elderly may have numerous effects on general health, including physical fitness and performance. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between oral health and physical function in elderly people. Methods: Physical function and oral health parameters were compared using parametric comparison tests and Pearson correlation analyses. In addition, principal components analysis, hierarchical clustering and multidimensional scaling analysis clustered the patients' physical and oral health scores. The relationship between the groups was also determined using decision tree analysis. Results: A total of 112 elderly patients participated in the study. Grip strength (GS) was higher in patients with high chewing ability, and Timed Up and Go (TUG) scores were lower in the high oral health group (p <.05). GS was correlated with Decay, Missing, and Filled Teeth Index (DMFT) and the number of remaining and functional teeth (p <.05). According to principal component analysis, it was seen that there were three components (oral, functional and quality of life (QoL) parameters), and the features that were related to each other were gathered together. TUG and GS showed the highest relative importance among physical function criteria in the classification based on chewing ability. They were GS and physical activity for oral health‐related QoL. Conclusion: In the elderly, higher physical function parameters, especially GS may be an indicator of a better oral health and oral health‐related QoL. The geological condition monitoring and identification based on TBM-equipped sensors is of great significance for efficient and safe tunnel construction. Full-scale rotary cutting experiments are carried out using tunnel-boring machine disc cutters. Thrust, torque and vibration sensors are equipped on the rotary cutting machine (RCM). A stacking ensemble-learning model for real-time prediction of rock mass classification using features of mathematical statistics is proposed. Three signals, thrust, torque and a novel vibration spectrogram-based local amplification feature, are fed into the model and trained separately. The results show that the stacked ensemble-learning model has better accuracy and stability than any single model, showing a good application prospect in the rock mass classification. Objectives In recent decades, risk of job loss in America after age 50 has been high, potentially causing significant stress during the period preceding retirement. Yet no study has quantified the burden of clinically relevant depressive symptoms attributable to job loss in this age group over this period or identified the most vulnerable populations. Methods Participants aged 50+ in the Health and Retirement Study (recruited 1992–2016) who were employed and scored <5 on the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression 8-item scale (CESD-8) at baseline (N  = 18,571) were followed for depressive symptoms until they first had CESD-8 ≥5 or died, or through the 2018 survey. Parametric g-formula analyses examined the difference in cumulative risk of having CESD-8 ≥5 if there had been no involuntary job loss compared to the observed scenario, adjusting for sex, race/ethnicity, age, and dynamic measures of recent marriage end (divorce or widowhood), having a working spouse, assets/debt, and health changes. Results We estimated that risk of CESD-8 ≥5 would have been 1.1% (95% confidence interval [0.55, 1.37]) lower if no involuntary job loss had occurred; job loss accounted for 11% of the total burden among those who lost a job. Stronger associations were observed for women (1.2% [0.7, 1.8] vs men 0.5% [0.2, 1.1]), White respondents (1.0% [0.6, 1.5] vs Black respondents 0.5% [−0.1, 1.4]), and those in the lowest quartile of baseline assets (1.1% [0.4, 1.9] vs wealthiest quartile 0.5% [−0.4, 0.9]). Discussion Involuntary job loss is associated with high depressive symptom burden in older persons, suggesting that screening and intervention soon after job loss may help mitigate depression. Objectives: Tinnitus is a phantom sound sensation without an external sound source. Due to its subjective and multifaceted nature it is measured using multi-item self-reported instruments. Many well-validated tinnitus-related questionnaires are available for clinical practice and scientific research, but so far no attention has been paid to their measurement invariance. The study aimed to examine measurement invariance of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory with regard to gender and hearing impairment, and to identify the items that show differential item functioning (DIF) across the groups. Design: This is a retrospective study using medical data from patients with tinnitus. They completed the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and underwent pure-tone audiometry. Study sample: 1106 adult patients with tinnitus (554 women and 552 men; 320 with normal hearing and 786 with hearing loss), aged 19–84 years. Results: In the analysis, multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, hybrid ordinal logistic regression, Kernel smoothing in Item Response Theory, and lasso regression were applied. Measurement invariance was demonstrated across gender, but across hearing status the measurement was non-invariant. Five items were found to have DIF. Background: CARTONET® enables automatic ablation site classification and reconnection site prediction using machine learning. However, the accuracy of the site classification model and trends of the site prediction model for potential reconnection sites are uncertain. Methods: We studied a total of 396 cases. About 313 patients underwent pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), including a cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) ablation (PVI group) and 83 underwent PVI and additional ablation (i.e., box isolation) (PVI+ group). We investigated the sensitivity and positive predictive value (PPV) for automatic site classification in the total cohort and compared these metrics for PV lesions versus non‐PV lesions. The distribution of potential reconnection sites and confidence level for each site was also investigated. Results: A total of 29,422 points were analyzed (PV lesions [n = 22 418], non‐PV lesions [n = 7004]). The sensitivity and PPV of the total cohort were 71.4% and 84.6%, respectively. The sensitivity and PPV of PV lesions were significantly higher than those of non‐PV lesions (PV lesions vs. non‐PV lesions, %; sensitivity, 75.3 vs. 67.5, p <.05; PPV, 91.2 vs. 67.9, p <.05). CTI and superior vena cava could not be recognized or analyzed. In the potential reconnection prediction model, the incidence of potential reconnections was highest in the posterior, while the confidence was the highest in the roof. Conclusion: The automatic site classification of the CARTONET®R12.1 model demonstrates relatively high accuracy in pulmonary veins excluding the carina. Background: Favorable collagen fibril density and thickness combined with advances in graft preparation and fixation have significantly increased interest in the quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. While various suspensory techniques have been described, the biomechanical profile of these constructs is largely undefined. Purpose: To compare the biomechanics of suspensory techniques for soft tissue QT autograft fixation in an in vitro model of ACL reconstruction. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Full-thickness QT grafts were harvested using a 9-mm graft blade. Adjustable-loop devices (ALDs) were secured to the graft (n = 6 per group) with a combination implant containing the ALD and suture tape-reinforced whipstitching (tape-reinforced [TR] group), tethered superficially to the graft with a whipstitch (onlay [OL] group), luggage-tagged through and around the graft (luggage tag [LT] group), or staggered behind superficial suturing (staggered [SG] group). Grafts were tested on an electromechanical testing machine following a validated in vitro reconstruction model of intraoperative workflow and postoperative ACL kinematics, cyclic loading, and load to failure. Results: The TR group had significantly less postcyclic tension loss (mean, 24%) compared with the OL (56%; P =.002), LT (69%; P <.001), and SG (90%; P <.001) constructs. Cyclic elongation was below the 3.0-mm threshold defined as clinical failure for TR (1.6 mm), but not for OL (3.3 mm), LT (7.9 mm), and SG (11.3 mm). All constructs were within native ACL stiffness limits (220 ± 72 N/mm) without significant differences. Ultimate loads significantly exceeded a normal ACL loading limit of 454 N for TR (739 N; P =.023), OL (547 N; P =.020), and LT (769 N; P =.001), but not for SG (346 N; P =.236). Conclusion: The TR ALD construct demonstrated the most favorable time-zero biomechanical properties of modern soft tissue QT suspensory constructs, with 32% less tension loss and 52% less cyclic elongation versus the closest construct. Failure loading of all constructs was acceptable with respect to the native ACL except for the SG group, which had suboptimal ultimate load. This research note reevaluates the occupational health impact of right-to-work (RTW) legislation, incorporating recent developments in causal inference techniques. In an era marked by an uptick in the adoption of anti-union legislation and increases in workplace fatalities and injuries, it is particularly urgent to examine the extent to which RTW laws affect workers' health. Using a state-year-level dataset spanning 28 years and collected from multiple data sources, we apply an innovative generalized synthetic control method to overcome several limitations of the traditional two-way fixed-effects approach to examine the effect of RTW laws on occupational fatal injuries as well as various other health outcomes. Robustness checks were conducted using a wide range of alternative methods for two-way fixed-effects adjustments. In contrast with findings from previous studies, we found null effects on occupational fatal injuries, as well as on all other health outcomes. Overall, our results indicate that findings from previous studies are based on very thin empirical evidence, with potentially underestimated standard errors and unobserved confounders. The plausibility of the "parallel trends assumption" in Difference-in-Differences estimation is usually assessed by a test of the null hypothesis that the difference between the average outcomes of both groups is constant over time before the treatment. However, failure to reject the null hypothesis does not imply the absence of differences in time trends between both groups. We provide equivalence tests that allow researchers to find evidence in favor of the parallel trends assumption and thus increase the credibility of their treatment effect estimates. Objective: To assess the secondary effect of hearing aids primarily fitted for presbyacusis and their impact on the quality of life of patients complaining of tinnitus. Design: Pilot case study Study sample: Adults with presbyacusis hearing loss were recruited in the Asker ENT clinic in Norway. Twenty consecutive patients were included in the pilot study. Methods: Twenty patients who were diagnosed with presbyacusis and additional tinnitus by the hearing tests (pure tone audiometry and speech audiometry) and medical interviews were recruited for the study. The level of their tinnitus distress was measured by the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) before and around 2 months after the hearing aid fitting. The results were afterwards statistically analyzed using paired sampled t-tests in Excel. Results: The data showed that hearing aids fitted primarily for presbyacusis can improve the quality of life in individuals suffering from tinnitus (p = 0.001504). In our sample, women showed higher levels of complaints about their tinnitus, compared to men. We found that age was an influencing factor on the outcomes of hearing aid usage for both presbyacusis and tinnitus, as people in this study before the age of 75 benefited less than patients above 75 (p = 0.005). All patients with moderate hearing loss in our sample showed significant improvement in their quality of life in regard to their tinnitus complaint, with a statistical value of p = 0.044. Also, patients with the lower levels of THI (slight and mild) were the groups who had the most clinically significant improvements in tinnitus distress. Finally, while analyzing the answers to all the THI questionnaire questions from the patients who did not show improvements in THI scores, a pattern of having trouble sleeping was detected as the most probable factor. Aim: This study aims to examine patients' preoperative COVID‐19 fear levels, hygiene behaviours, postoperative personal protective clinical measures, and their correlations with each other. Design: This research is a cross‐sectional type of study. Methods: The study sample consisted of 131 patients hospitalized in the general surgery inpatient ward of a hospital in Turkey. The sample was determined by G‐Power analysis. The data were collected in two stages in a research hospital between 1 April 2021 and 1 March 2022. Sociodemographic and Clinical Information Form, COVID‐19 Fear Scale, COVID‐19 Hygiene Scale were used before surgery; COVID‐19 personal protective clinical measures questionnaire was used after surgery. Descriptive statistics, independent t‐test, ANOVA test, Wilcoxon test and Spearman correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: It was determined that preoperative COVID‐19 fear levels, hygiene behaviours, and the personal protective clinical measures developed after the surgery were above moderate. A statistically significant and positive correlation was found between the COVID‐19 Fear Scale and the preoperative COVID‐19 Hygiene Scale and postoperative COVID‐19 personal protective clinical prevention questionnaire total score and sub‐dimension score averages. Patients' COVID‐19 fears, preoperative and postoperative hygiene behaviours are statistically significantly associated with each other at a low level; postoperative clinical precautions and preoperative hygiene behaviours are statistically significantly associated with each other at a high level. Conclusion: The results of this study show that patients are terrified of COVID‐19 while they are hospitalized due to surgical intervention during the pandemic process, and they increase their hygiene measures. It is thought that the results of the study will guide the regulation of clinical measures, patient education, and nursing care to be developed for patients during pandemic periods. Background: The goal of our research is to demonstrate how the combination of Rectal wall Plication (RP) and robotic Ventral Mesh Rectopexy (VMR) results in a safe and effective operation that provides superior outcomes for patients with Obstructed Defecation Syndrome (ODS). Methods: In a total of 78 women with ODS with posterior compartment prolapse, 30 had VMR whereas 33 received VMR plus RP. We assessed VMR and VMR + RP's efficacy and safety, as well as their influence on quality of life and sexual function. Results: At the median follow-up, both groups' POP-Q categorization scores for the posterior compartment decreased (p < 0.001). In terms of quality of life, the PISQ-12 showed an increase in sexual quality (30.12 ± 7.12 vs. 35.98 ± 5.98 in the VMR group and 29.65 ± 6.45 vs. 29.65 ± 6.45 in the VMR + RP group, p = 0.041). In the VMR + RP group, the number of sexually active patients with at least two sexual interactions per month rose (p = 0.033). At the median follow-up, the ODS score values differed significantly (7.11 ± 1.65 vs. 1.88 ± 1.89, p = 0.013). Background: A short and easy questionnaire is needed to identify symptoms of listening difficulties (LiD) at an early stage. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of such a questionnaire for adolescents with and without LiD. Methods: We included adolescents with and without LiD and adults without LiD in this study. We utilized a questionnaire designed for individuals with LiD, which combined the Speech, Spatial, and Quality of Hearing scales (SSQ)-12 and four additional psychological items. From this, we selected three items that exhibited the largest differences between adolescents with and without LiD. We subsequently examined the relationship between the total scores of all items and the three selected items to develop the short questionnaire. Results: The responses of adolescents to the questionnaire were consistent with those of adults. The total scores from the three selected items exhibited a strong correlation with the overall questionnaire score for adolescents both with and without LiD, indicating their potential for identifying LiD symptoms. Higher stress levels may be associated with decreased academic success and physical and psychological well-being in chiropractic students. This study aimed to determine the perceived stress and burnout of chiropractic students at the University of Johannesburg during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a quantitative, exploratory study utilizing a self-administered online questionnaire distributed to chiropractic students (n = 246) at the university. The questionnaire consisted of 3 main components: demographics, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Student Survey (MBI-SS). Data were analyzed utilizing exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach alpha for reliabilities, and descriptive statistics for mean scores being interpreted using subscales pertaining to the 2 survey tools. The response rate was 63.82% (n = 157) with the PSS-10 indicating participants obtained a total mean score of 25.08 (average stress). For the MBI-SS categories, participants scored 18.96 out of 30 for exhaustion, 10.31 out of 30 for cynicism, and 22.46 out of 36 for professional efficiency; higher scores of exhaustion and cynicism and lower scores of professional efficiency are indicative of higher degrees of burnout. Statistically significant differences for both tools were noted in relation to age and academic year with higher values indicated with increased age and progression in the program. The results indicate that chiropractic students experienced moderate levels of stress but higher burnout than other health sciences student populations when compared to current literature. Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) poses a significant public health challenge with profound impacts at individual, family, community, and societal levels. Early during the COVID-19 pandemic, the neighborhood of Elmhurst, Queens in New York City was a hotspot dubbed the "epicenter of the epicenter" of the crisis in the United States, requiring major changes in healthcare resource allocation. This study investigates how different phases of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the incidence, severity, and clinical outcomes of TBI in this geographical area. Methods: TBI admissions to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, a Level 1 Trauma Center, during the first six months of 2019, 2020, and 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Data were grouped into three periods: pre-pandemic (1/1/19–6/30/19 and 1/1/20–2/29/20) [Group 1], first COVID-19 wave (3/1/20–6/30/20) [Group 2], and second COVID-19 wave (1/1/21–6/30/21) [Group 3]. Univariate analyses were conducted to explore factors potentially associated with TBI outcomes; variables that reached statistical significance (p < 0.05) were included in a binary logistic regression analysis dichotomized into good outcome (discharge to home or acute rehabilitation disposition) and poor outcome (discharge to skilled nursing facility/subacute rehabilitation, hospice, or in-hospital mortality). Results: Analysis of 443 TBI patients (median age 56 [range 38, 73]; mean admissions/week 5.6 ± 2.7) demonstrated no significant variance in age (H = 0.92; p = 0.63), sex (χ2 = 1.4, p = 0.51), or ethnicity (χ2 = 17.1; p = 0.07) across groups. Group 2 had significantly fewer weekly admissions (3.9 ± 2.6) compared to Groups 1 (5.9 ± 2.2; p = 0.02) and 3 (6.1 ± 2.9; p = 0.01). Over the course of the pandemic, the proportion of uninsured patients decreased from 15 to 4%, while Medicaid and Medicare coverage rates rose from 25 to 41% and 20% to 28%, respectively (p < 0.001). A binary logistic regression model dichotomized by discharge outcome for all 443 TBI patients confirmed that increasing age (OR = 0.95; 95% CI 0.93–0.97; p < 0.001) and Injury Severity Score (OR = 0.88; 95% CI 0.83–0.93; p < 0.001) were inversely correlated with good outcome, while higher Glasgow Coma Scale (OR = 1.26; 95% CI 1.17–1.36; p < 0.001) was positively correlated. Of particular interest, Black/Hispanic ethnicity (OR = 0.36; 95% CI 0.19–0.66; p = 0.002) and public health insurance (Medicaid/Medicare) coverage (OR = 0.83; 95% CI 0.68–1.00; p = 0.05) were both associated with less favorable outcomes. Neither group designation, patient sex, COVID-19 status, or need for neurosurgical intervention was correlated with outcome (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Despite the changes in TBI admission patterns throughout New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic, the quality of patient outcomes at our institution remained relatively consistent across the pandemic's different phases, as assessed by discharge disposition. However, two important socioeconomic factors—ethnicity and health insurance status—were significantly associated with outcome, underscoring the need for systemic changes to address ongoing disparities in neurotrauma care. Background: Glycoprotein A repetitions predominant (GARP) is a novel transmembrane protein highly expressed on the surface of regulatory T cells (Tregs), which are a subset of immunosuppressive T lymphocytes that play a major role in inhibiting the antitumor immune response. Many studies documented increased GARP expression in various tumors, which is related to a poorer prognosis, and only one single paper investigated its expression in thyroid tumors. Aim: To evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of GARP in differentiated thyroid carcinomas and their tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in comparison to its expression in other benign and low-risk lesions. Methods: Sixty-nine cases of different thyroid lesions were subgrouped into 37 cases of malignant thyroid neoplasms, 25 cases of benign thyroid lesions, and 7 cases of low-risk neoplasms collected from the Pathology Department Laboratories of Ain Shams University Hospitals during the period from January 2017 to December 2021 and stained immunohistochemically for GARP. Immunohistochemical (IHC) results were evaluated in thyroid epithelial cells and TILs. The expression of GARP was correlated with the different clinicopathological parameters. Results: GARP expression discloses a significant statistical difference between the three studied groups (P < 0.001). High GARP expression was detected in 89.19% of the malignant cases and in 28.57% of low-risk neoplasms, while all benign lesions exhibited low GARP expression. High GARP expression of TILs was detected in 60% of the malignant cases. Synchronous high GARP expression in tumor tissue and in the surrounding TILs was detected in 63.16% of the malignant cases, yet these results did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: GARP is a marker of Tregs, whose high expression is increased in malignant over benign and low-risk lesions. It might be a potential novel target for anticancer immunotherapy. Background: The Sexual Health Scale (QLQ-SH22) is the only cancer-specific measure of sexual health. It has never been translated into Arabic. In order to envisage effective healthcare strategies that improve sexual quality of life, the validation of the Moroccan version of this scale is a crucial step in exploring the influence of cancer and its treatment on patients in the Moroccan context. In this regard, this study aimed to validate a Moroccan Arabic version among patients with cancer. Method: A total of 280 Moroccan patients with cancer participated in this study from August 2022 to April 2023. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the QLQ-SH22 was performed following the EORTC guidelines. Psychometric validation was explored using the reliability of internal consistency, test–retest reliability, and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA). Results: The analysis revealed a greater internal consistency for both sexual satisfaction (α = 0.83) and sexual pain (α = 0.86). The intraclass correlation coefficient indicated an excellent level of test–retest reliability (from 0.925 to 0.993). The CFA demonstrated high-performing model fit indices (χ2/df = 1.17, SRMR = 0.05, RMSEA = 0.035, GFI = 0.94, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.99, IFI = 0.99, NFI = 0.94). The concurrent validity between the QLQ-C30 and QLQ-SH22 confirmed a strong correlation between the fatigue scales in both questionnaires (r = 0.69). This version showed good discrimination between known groups. Several technologies have been introduced into neurorehabilitation programs to enhance traditional treatment of individuals with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Their effectiveness has been widely investigated, but their adoption has not been properly quantified. The aim of this study is to assess the distribution of conventional (Treatment As Usual—TAU) and technology-aided (Treatment With Technologies—TWT) treatments conveniently grouped based on different therapeutic goals in a selected SCI unit. Data from 104 individuals collected in 29 months were collected in a custom database and categorized according to both the conventional American Impairment Scale classification and a newly developed Multifactor (MF) clustering approach that considers additional sources of information (the lesion level, the level of independence in the activities of daily living, and the hospitalization duration). Results indicated an average technology adoption of about 30%. Moreover, the MF clusters were less overlapped, and the differences in TWT adoption were more pronounced than in AIS-based clustering. MF clustering was capable of grouping individuals based both on neurological features and functional abilities. In particular, individuals with motor complete injuries were grouped together, whereas individuals with sensorimotor incomplete SCI were collected separately based on the lesion level. As regards TWT adoption, we found that in the case of motor complete SCI, TWT for muscle tone control and modulation was mainly selected (about 90% of TWT), while the other types of TWT were seldom adopted. Even for individuals with incomplete SCI, the most frequent rehabilitation goal was muscle tone modulation (about 75% of TWT), regardless of the AIS level, and technologies to improve walking ability (about 12% of TWT) and balance control (about 10% of TWT) were mainly used for individuals with thoracic or lumbar lesions. Analyzing TAU distribution, we found that the highest adoption of muscle tone modulation strategies was reported in the case of individuals with motor complete SCI (about 42% of TAU), that is, in cases when almost no gait training was pursued (about 1% of TAU). In the case of cervical motor incomplete SCI, compared to thoracic and lumbar incomplete SCI, there was a greater focus on muscle tone control and force recruitment in addition to walking training (38% and 14% of TAU, respectively) than on balance training. Overall, the MF clustering provided more insights than the traditional AIS-based classification, highlighting differences in TWT adoption. These findings suggest that a wider overview that considers both neurological and functional characteristics of individuals after SCI based on a multifactor analysis could enhance the personalization of neurorehabilitation strategies. The purpose of this quasiexperimental study was to test the effects of wearing the NewGait rehabilitative device on walking abilities in individuals with foot drop. The study involved 16 participants with foot drops caused by stroke (11 participants), multiple sclerosis (one participant), and peripheral neuropathies (four individuals). During a single testing session, participants walked 12 m at their self‐selected speed in four experimental conditions: walking without any orthotic device; walking while wearing a regular plastic posterior leaf ankle foot orthosis (AFO); walking with the NewGait device assisting ankle dorsiflexion only; and walking with the NewGait device assisting the hip, knee, and ankle joint motions. Body motions during walking were recorded using a 3D system for motion analysis and analyzed with a set of spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters and a gait decomposition index. The gait decomposition index indicated sagittal interjoint coordination in the three joint pairs (hip–knee, knee–ankle, and hip–ankle) of the paretic (foot drop) leg during walking and was validated in a previous study. Overall, wearing all three orthotic devices improved the gait velocity, ankle dorsiflexion, and foot clearance compared to gait trials in which no assistive devices were used. However, wearing the AFO significantly restricted the plantarflexion range of motion and decreased interjoint coordination as measured by joint decomposition. In contrast, the NewGait device altered the ankle plantarflexion motions but also increased coordinated movement (reduced the decomposition) in most lower‐extremity joint pairs and conditions. To understand the changes in cotton production and the yield increase pattern in Xinjiang, mathematical statistics and gravity center models were used to analyze the spatial and temporal patterns of cotton production. The pattern and contribution factors of cotton yield increase were discussed based on relevant data from 1988 to 2020. The variation in cotton production in Xinjiang since 1988 showed two stages. The first was an upward fluctuating period (1988—2014), where cotton yield increased from 1.712×105 t to 3.378×106 t, and the planted area increased from 2.213×105 hm² to 1.970×106 hm² . During the second period of fluctuating decline (2015—2020), the cotton yield decreased to 3.027×106 t, and the planted area decreased to 1.637×106 hm² . From 1988 to 2020, the cotton production, planted area, and yield in most cities and regions of Xinjiang significantly increased, but there were significant differences among regions. Southern Xinjiang had a prominent position in cotton production, with Aksu, Kashgar, and Bayingolin contributing 65.43% to the increase of cotton yield in Xinjiang. The increase rate in cotton production of Hami in eastern and northern Xinjiang was faster than that in southern Xinjiang, relocating the gravity center of cotton production to the northeast by 300.96 km, from Kashgar to Aksu. The increase in cotton production in Xinjiang was mainly led by the planted area (74.61%) . Targeted resistance training stimulates hamstring muscle hypertrophy, but its effect on tendon‐aponeurosis geometry is unknown. This study examined changes in hamstring muscle, free tendon, and aponeurosis geometry following a 10 week Nordic or hip extension exercise intervention. Thirty recreationally active males were randomly allocated (n = 10 per group) to a Nordic, hip extension, or control group. Magnetic resonance imaging of both thighs was acquired pre‐ and post‐intervention. Changes in free tendon and aponeurosis volume for each hamstring muscle, biceps femoris long head (BFlh) aponeurosis interface area and muscle volume‐to‐interface area ratio were compared between groups. Regional changes in muscle CSA were examined via statistical parametric mapping. The change in semimembranosus free tendon volume was greater for the Nordic than control group (mean difference = 0.06 cm3, 95% CI = 0.02–0.11 cm3). No significant between‐group differences existed for other hamstring free tendons or aponeuroses. There were no between‐group differences in change in BFlh interface area. Change in BFlh muscle volume‐to‐interface area ratio was greater in the hip extension than Nordic (mean difference = 0.10, 95% CI = 0.007–0.19, p = 0.03) and control (mean difference = 0.12, 95% CI = 0.03–0.22, p = 0.009) groups. Change in muscle CSA following training was greatest in the mid‐portion of semitendinosus for both intervention groups, and the mid‐portion of BFlh for the hip extension group. There was limited evidence for tendon‐aponeurosis hypertrophy after 10 weeks of training with the Nordic or hip extension exercises. For the BFlh, neither intervention altered the interface area although hip extension training stimulated an increase in the muscle volume‐to‐interface area ratio, which may have implications for localized tissue strains. When steel fiber and PVA fiber produced in China and PVA fiber made in Japan are prepared according to the appropriate proportions, the mechanical properties of hybrid fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (HFRCC) are better, which is beneficial to cost control and has wide application prospects. The effects of the volume content of steel fibers and the volume substitution rate of PVA fibers on the tensile strength, compressive strength, and flexural strength of HFRCC were analyzed using the factor optimization method and principal component analysis (PCA). Through the principal component analysis of HFRCC, a mathematical model for comprehensive performance evaluation was established, and a multi-objective optimization was carried out. The results show that compared with the matrix, the tensile strength, compressive strength, and flexural strength of concrete increase significantly when the volume content of steel fibers is 0.2–0.4% and the volume substitution rate of domestically produced PVA fibers in China or PVA fibers produced in Japan is 50–100%. The maximum cost reduction is 88.25%, and the strength index of HFRCC can reach the optimum; the weights of each factor on the performance of HFRCC were obtained through mathematical statistics. Combined with a variable correlation analysis, these indicators should be noted when optimizing the performance of HFRCC. The research results can provide a basis for the preparation of HFRCC. Background Cardiac injury caused by iron overload is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with beta-thalassemia, owing to frequent blood transfusion, increased iron overload, and blood hemolysis. Objective This research aimed to assess several novel cardiac biomarkers in the blood samples of children and adult patients with beta-thalassemia major (βTM), along with their respective control groups. These biomarkers included endothelin 1 (ET-1), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15), and renalase (RNLS). Methods This case-control study was done on 46 patients with βTM (23 children <18 years, and 23 adults ≥18 years) from the Genetic Hematology Center in Thi-Qar province, Iraq, and 42 comparable controls in 2 groups (21 for each group) in the period from February to April 2023. Results Levels of ET-1, NT-proBNP, ANP, GDF-15, RNLS, and ferritin were higher in the children and adults with βTM than in the control subjects. Conclusion Elevations of the novel cardiac biomarkers ET-1, NT-proBNP, ANP, GDF-15, and RNLS in the sera of children and adult patients with βTM when compared with comparable control subjects confirm that the majority of patients with βTM are at risk of cardiac and cardiovascular complications even when there are no obvious symptoms, especially in children, which gives suitable predictive biomarkers. Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to assess how age influences masseter vestibular evoked myogenic potential (mVEMP) parameters by utilizing 500-Hz tone burst stimuli delivered through air conduction. Method: The study involved 110 participants ranging from 15 to 60 years of age, grouped into five categories, all of whom had no previous issues related to their vestibular system. The participants were exposed to 500-Hz tone burst stimuli at 125 dB SPL through ER-3A inserts. These stimuli were presented to one ear at a time, with alternating polarity. A Tukey's honestly significant difference test was conducted to compare rectified and unrectified amplitude, along with latencies (P11 and N21) and the asymmetric ratio across all age groups. Additionally, a multivariate analysis of variance was performed to assess the impact of sex on the study variables. Results: All 110 participants (220 ears) in the study provided mVEMP responses, encompassing 100% of the subjects. The results revealed a significant reduction in both amplitude and latency extension for the P11 and N21 peaks. Interestingly, P11 latency was also prolonged in the youngest participants (Group 1), suggesting ongoing maturation of the system even beyond the age of 16 years. Moreover, a significant sex difference was observed in the P11 latencies. However, there were no substantial sex differences (p >.05)inN1peaklatency,peak-to- peak amplitude, rectified amplitude, and asymmetric ratio. Conclusions: Changes in structure occur due to degeneration, and the quantity of vestibular sensory hair cells gradually diminishes with age. The rate of decline is faster in semicircular canals compared to end organs, as observed by Merchant et al. (2000). Following a linear degeneration starting at the age of 40 years, a continuous reduction in sensory cells and primary neurons takes place until approximately 40% of vestibular sensory cells are lost by the age of 75 years and insufficient maturation can lead to prolonged peaks and reduced amplitudes compared with those that are considered normal. Purpose: Inspired by a preliminary survey of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) literature conducted by Friberg et al. (2014), the current study aimed to expand the original study's findings--that SoTL was rarely published in the communication sciences and disorders (CSD) literature from 2009 to 2013--to the subsequent 8-year period (2014--2021). The latter period was of particular relevance considering the dissolution of one American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)--affiliated publication and the addition of another non--ASHA-affiliated publication during that time. Method: Ten peer-reviewed CSD journals and the articles published in them were identified via a survey of the literature that used narrowly defined criteria developed in collaboration with a librarian. Five trained CSD graduate student raters compared a definition of SoTL to article abstracts to determine whether each should have been categorized as SoTL. Part 1 of the study investigated an 8-year time span, Part 2 investigated the remaining nine journals in the subsequent 5 years, and Part 3 investigated publication rates of SoTL in Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders (TLCSD) alone. Results: Part 1 of the study revealed that publication rates of SoTL were extremely low in the 10 surveyed CSD journals in the 8-year time span investigated. A similar and diminishing trend was found in Part 2. Even smaller percentages of journals were dedicated to SoTL. Part 3 confirmed that relatively large amounts of CSD-specific SoTL have been published in TLCSD since its inception in 2017. Conclusions: As of 2021, SoTL articles continued to be uncommonly published in CSD journals. Until recently, scholarly teachers attempting to apply SoTL in the classroom had limited resources. Beginning in 2017, TLCSD has provided an outlet for SoTL, whereas other CSD journals seem to have published less of it. Objective: To evaluate the clinical features and perinatal outcomes of antenatally diagnosed fetuses with omphalocele and gastroschisis. Material and Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center, cohort study of prenatally diagnosed fetuses with omphalocele and gastroschisis followed-up and delivered at a university hospital. Demographic, pregnancy, birth and perinatal outcomes were compared between gastroschisis and omphalocele. Results: A total of 75 fetuses with omphalocele and 21 cases with gastroschisis were evaluated. The mean maternal age of women carrying a fetus with omphalocele was significantly higher than the women with gastroschisis (p=0.001). Associated structural anomalies were found in 53.3% and 4.7% of fetuses with omphalocele and gastroschisis, respectively (p<0.001). The rate of chromosomal anomaly was 8.3% in pregnancies with omphalocele. In liveborn pregnancies, the mean gestational age at delivery and birth weight did not differ between the study groups. Time to postoperative oral intake, duration of parenteral nutrition and length of hospital stay were significantly longer in babies with gastroschisis than omphalocele (p<0.01). Rates of termination, intrauterine, neonatal and infant death of fetuses with omphalocele were 25.3%, 6.7%, 10.7% and 2.7% respectively. Time to postoperative oral intake, duration of parenteral nutrition and duration of hospitalization were significantly longer in babies with complex compared to simple gastroschisis (p<0.01). Survival rates were 95.2%, 82.9% and 20% in fetuses with gastroschisis, isolated and non-isolated omphalocele, respectively. Conclusion: Associated structural and chromosomal anomalies were significantly more common in fetuses with omphalocele compared to those with gastroschisis. Prognosis of fetuses with omphalocele depended on the associated structural and chromosomal anomalies, whereas bowel compromise was the main determining factor in gastroschisis. This trial was carried out to investigate the effect of forced air warming in various body areas of women on hypothermia during cesarean delivery. The patients in the study groups (n = 76) were assigned to the full-body warming group, upper-extremity warming group, lower-extremity warming group, and control groups. The intervention groups received forced-air warming 30 min before the surgery and continued until 30 min after surgery. The incidence of hypothermia was significantly higher in the control group than in the other groups at the 60th minute of the operation (p < 0.01). The intervention and control groups showed significant differences in the frequency of shivering at the entrance to the PACU (p = 0.001). Thermal comfort scores have significant difference between the control group and all of the intervention groups (p<.001). BACKGROUND: Long-time judo training can lead athletes to develop upper limb asymmetry and shoulder asymmetry during force production, mainly in the action of pulling, pushing, and throwing; that requires higher strength and velocity of the internal and external rotators of the shoulders, which may also result in shoulder injury, or a decrease in judo performance. OBJECTIVE: To investigate asymmetries in concentric force of the internal and external shoulder rotators of the dominant and non-dominant upper limbs in high-level judokas at angular velocities of 60, 180, and 300∘/s. METHODS: 14 highly trained male judokas (age 24.4 ± 4.8 yrs.; body mass 87.9 ± 18.7 kg; height 1.8 ± 0.1 m). All participants performed 5 attempts of movement concentric internal and external rotation of the shoulder with 3 angular velocities (60∘/s, 180∘/s, and 300∘/s) in an isokinetic dynamometer (Cybex® Humac Norm Dynamometer CSMI, model 502140). The data were analyzed by independent t-student (discrete analysis) a statistical parametric mapping (SPM) curve (one-dimensional analysis). RESULTS: There was no difference in dominant vs. non-dominant for discrete analysis (p > 0.05). There was no difference in dominant vs. non-dominant for SPM analysis. None of the comparisons surpassed the comparison cut-off (tcrit) for the t -test (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Based on results, judokas do not present significant asymmetries in concentric force of external or internal shoulder rotators when compared to the dominant vs. the non-dominant upper limb according to discrete and one-dimensional (SPM) analysis. Alternative grading methods, such as standards-based grading, provide students multiple opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of the learning outcomes in a course. These grading methods allow for more flexibility and help promote a growth mindset by embracing constructive failure for students. Implementation of these alternative grading methods requires developing specific, transparent, and assessable standards. Moving away from traditional methods also requires a mindset shift for how both students and instructors approach assessment. While providing multiple opportunities is important for learning in any course, these methods are particularly relevant to an upper level mathematical statistics course where topics covered often provide an additional challenge for students as they lie at the intersection of both theory and application. By providing multiple opportunities, students have the space for constructive failure as they tackle learning both a conceptual understanding of statistics and the supporting mathematical theory. Introduction: In May 2022, the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy announced a "nationwide shortage of faculty" in entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs across the country. As the number of physical therapist education programs continue to grow, concerns with faculty shortages increase. Review of literature: Research on reasons faculty stay in entry-level DPT programs is limited. With a nation-wide shortage of faculty and the continued growth of DPT programs across the country, more investigation into faculty retention is warranted. Subjects: Two hundred forty-four participants responded to the quantitative survey. Ten program directors (PD) and 10 faculty members (FM) completed a qualitative interview through Zoom. Methods: This mixed-methods design included a quantitative survey across 264 accredited DPT programs followed by 20 qualitative online interviews. Multiple regression was completed for the data analysis, and a phenomenological approach was used to explore perceptions of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on intent to stay. Results: Two hundred thirty-six subjects (mean age = 50.04 ± 9.54 years; males = 63, females = 173; PD = 55, FM = 180) were included in the analysis. The multiple regression model significantly predicted intent to stay for all participants, F(9,211) = 12.43, P < .001; adj R² = .32. Commitment to the organization was the greatest predictor of intent to stay, β = 0.61, t(0.622) = 5.05, P < .01. Three themes with 6 subthemes emerged from the qualitative analysis, the impact of leadership, making a commitment, and the Covid crisis. Conclusion and discussion: Encouraging leadership to focus on structural factors such as striving to establish FMs as part of the departmental team, allowing autonomy and flexibility in the teaching role, building transparency and openness with communication, and focusing on realistic and equitable workloads could potentially increase intent to stay for faculty in entry-level DPT programs. Approximate Bayesian computing (ABC) and Bayesian Synthetic likelihood (BSL) are two popular families of methods to evaluate the posterior distribution when the likelihood function is not available or tractable. For existing variants of ABC and BSL, the focus is usually first put on the simulation algorithm, and after that the form of the resulting approximate posterior distribution comes as a consequence of the algorithm. In this paper we turn this around and firstly define a reasonable approximate posterior distribution by studying the distributional properties of the expected discrepancy, or more generally an expected evaluation, with respect to generated samples from the model. The resulting approximate posterior distribution will be on a simple and interpretable form compared to ABC and BSL. Secondly a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm is developed to simulate from the resulting approximate posterior distribution. The algorithm was evaluated on a synthetic data example and on the Stepping Stone population genetics model, demonstrating that the proposed scheme has real world applicability. The algorithm demonstrates competitive results with the BSL and sequential Monte Carlo ABC algorithms, but is outperformed by the ABC MCMC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The work aims to analyze the current state of e-government and determine its impact on the economic development of Ukraine. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: ▪ to conduct an analysis of the current state of development of e-government in Ukraine using the EGDI and EPI indices; ▪ to reveal the relationship between the e-government index and the level of income of the countries of the world; ▪ to check the assumption about whether the growth of the level of development of e-government in Ukraine will lead to an increase in GDP per capita; ▪ to propose priority measures aimed at ensuring the growth of the level of development of e-government in Ukraine to improve economic growth. The following research methods were used in the work: methods of systematization and generalization, comparative analysis, and mathematical statistics. In particular, regression analysis was used: to identify and verify the causal relationships between the variables – the values of the e-government development and e-participation indexes and the volume of gross domestic product per capita in Ukraine (based on paired linear regression); as well as for forecasting the values of EGDI (based on paired non-linear regression). The study results showed a direct linear relationship between the level of development of e-government, expressed by the e-government development index and the e-participation index, and the country's economic development level, reflected by GDP per capita. In particular, an increase in the e-government development index by 1 unit leads to a growth in real GDP per capita by 3.76 units. As for the e-participation index, there is a positive relationship between the e-participation index and GDP per capita. An increase in the e-participation index by 1 unit leads to a growth in real GDP per capita by 3.96 units. Although there is a positive correlation between the EGDI and EPI indices and the country's income level, e-government is not the only factor that increases GDP per capita. Thanks to the correct policy of the Ukrainian government regarding the expansion of the provision of electronic services, it is possible to achieve a higher level of EGDI and EPI, thereby increasing the GDP and welfare of the population.
