This paper aims to identify the key criteria for distinguishing sub-disciplines in management sciences and evaluate their application in national and international science classifications. Documents from 16 different countries and areas were studied semantically. Triangulation was used to study 16 sub-discipline classifications and survey expert opinions among 31 representatives of management sciences from Poland and China to achieve the paper’s purpose. Based on the results, the classifications use various criteria for categorising sub-disciplines, with the key criteria being (1) resources, (2) activity areas, (3) management concepts and methods, and (4) types of organisations. Meanwhile, the extent of their use is well in line with the expectations of the management sciences community representatives participating in the survey. The paper proposes a theoretical framework of 13 distinguishing criteria and characterises 16 classifications of sub-disciplines in management science from different countries. The theoretical considerations provide a good insight into the logic of creating a classification of sub-disciplines. They also provide a better description and understanding of the role of research specialisations in building the identity, organisation, and development of the management sciences community. The results align with a discussion on improving the classifications of management sciences’ sub-disciplines. They are essential in identifying future and promising research specialisations within management sciences. They are helpful in the process of reviewing and/or placing particular research issues or problems in specific sub-disciplines of management sciences.

Aim/purpose – This paper aims to introduce and describe a new paradigm (model) of evolutionary dynamism of family business potential in the succession process and its empirical simulation in family enterprises from culturally close “post-socialistic” countries: the Czech Republic and Poland.

Background: This paper aims to investigate the relationship between big data capability (BDC) and supply chain performance (SCP), and to examine the mediating role of supply chain resilience (SCR) and the moderating role of environmental uncertainty (EU) on the relationship between BDC and SCP. Drawing on the dynamic capability view and contingency theory, the study developed and tested a conceptual model with empirical data, clarifying the effects of BDA on SCP, the mediating effects of SCR and the moderating effects of EU. Methods: The primary survey data of 232 responses were collected from supply chain managers of manufacturers in China. The data were analyzed by employing SPSS and AMOS, and hierarchical regression was used to test the hypothesis. Results: The study found that BDC and its three dimensions have a significant impact on SCP, with a partial mediating role for SCR. Additionally, environmental uncertainty significantly moderates the relationships between BDC and SCR and between SCR and SCP. Conclusions: The results indicate the growing role of big data in supply chain resilience and performance, especially for small and medium-sized firms. Manufacturing companies should accelerate the development of supply chain resilience management systems and enhance their ability to cope with environmental changes. Managers should also be alert to the risks of changes in the external environment and allocate appropriate resources to mitigate environmental uncertainty and adapt to environmental changes. The aim of the paper is the presentation of theoretical foundations and the structure of original, 8-stage statics and dynamics model in the small business life cycle. Based on theoretical considerations, two hypotheses concerning the impact of dynamic and static nature of the life-cycle stages on selected determinants and effects of SMEs’ development were formulated. The hypotheses were verified based on the results of the survey conducted on a sample of 1,741 SMEs from 22 countries of the European Union. The results indicate that companies in the dynamic life-cycle stages are run by more enterprising owners, operate in more promising markets with a higher potential and make greater use of market niches thus limiting the level of competition. At the same time, such companies are characterised by higher levels of flexibility and involvement in innovative activities, which translates into obtaining a significantly higher level of business performance, in the area of quantitative as well as qualitative results.

This study is the first part of a series entitled „Masters, partners and successors of the university management school in Łódź”, whose purpose is to present the achievements, relations and development prospects of a group of key representatives of the management school at the University of Lodz, Poland. The paper presents the genesis and retrospective insights into the history of the university management school in Lodz. In addition, nine key areas of scientific research directly related to the organisational structure of the Faculty of Management have been identified. The relationships between masters, partners and successors, as well as the most important scientific achievements of this school in the areas of theory and methods of organisation and management, corporate strategy and finance as well as accounting are discussed in detail. Introduction/background: The success of ISO 9001 quality management system results from its inner integrity and complexity based on rich achievements of management sciences. Thus deeper understanding of particular components and requirements of the standard demands paying attention to their sources deriving from specific concepts and methods of management, which became an inspiration for the international standardization in the area of quality management in organization. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to identify and interpret the sources of current requirements of ISO 9001 quality management system in the legacy of management sciences. Materials and methods: The study includes literature review aimed at capturing the substantive and historical connections between the developed concepts and methods of management and the contemporary shape of systemic solutions in the field of quality management expressed by means of ISO 9001 standard. Results and conclusions: The requirements of ISO 9001 quality management system are characterized by a number of substantive links with the achievements of management sciences developed throughout the history, derived both from classical and modern concepts and methods of management. Originality of this work results from holistic and historical approach to identification and interpretation of sources for changing requirements of the quality management system. The aim of the paper is to present an overview of the theoretical basis and stages of the process of opportunities exploration and exploitation in the development of innovativeness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and its preliminary empirical verification on the basis of experience derived from economic practice. The aim of the paper is realized based on the author's own empirical research carried out in the form of a case study conducted among 5 innovative SME companies in Poland. The results indicate that the analyzed companies associate opportunities directly with entrepreneurship and the development of innovative activity. They take various actions that are part of theoretical principles of effective opportunities exploration and exploitation, which allows them to obtain a number of pro-innovative benefits and which supports the creation of competitive advantage. One of the features of management sciences is their strong sub-disciplinary nature which results in distinguishing specific research specializations. This process is a consequence of the eclectic character of management and is associated with the dynamic emergence of new research areas and practical applications. Taking this into account, the aim of the paper is to identify and assess the scope, characteristics and development prospects of selected classifications of sub-disciplines in management sciences in Polish and worldwide research practice. The aim is realized on the basis of the research encompassing 13 selected classifications and opinions of 31 experts representing the scientific community from Poland and China. The results indicate a wide variety of the analyzed classifications which are characterized by different application goals, scope, characteristics and classification logic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
