1. Igusa-Todorov and LIT algebras on Morita context algebras

Abstract

In this article, we prove that, under certain conditions, Morita context algebras that arise from Igusa-Todorov (LIT) algebras and have zero bimodule morphisms are also Igusa-Todorov (LIT). For a finite dimensional algebra $A$, we prove that the class $\phi_0^{-1}(A) = \{M: \phi(M)=0\}$ is a 0-Igusa-Todorov subcategory if and only if $A$ is selfinjective or gl$\dim l(A)< \infty$. As a consequence $A$ is an $(n,V, \phi_0^{-1}(A))$ algebra if and only if $A$ is selfinjective or gl$\dim(A)< \infty$. 6. Igusa-Todorov functions for radical square zero algebras

Abstract

We study the behaviour of the Igusa-Todorov functions for radical square zero algebras. We show that the left and the right $\phi$-dimensions coincide, in this case. Some general results are given, but we concentrate more in the radical square zero algebras. Our study is based on two notions of hearth and member of a quiver $Q$. We give some bounds for the $\phi$ and the $\psi$-dimensions and we describe the algebras for which the bound of $\psi$ is obtained. We also exhibit modules for which the $\phi$-dimension is realised.

Abstract

Description of the subject. Pleurotus species are cultivated on lignocellulosic substrates, in which contaminant fungi such as Trichoderma spp. are common. A selective substrate for Pleurotus provides the necessary conditions for protection against contaminants. Studies show that Paenibacillus polymyxa and other thermophilic bacteria benefit from the selectivity of Pleurotus cultivation substrate, however, little is known regarding these bacterial communities. Objectives. To evaluate the effect of substrate inoculation with Paenibacillus polymyxa on the productivity of Pleurotus pulmonarius and its protection against Trichoderma. Method. Barley straw inoculated with P. polymyxa and non-inoculated straw (control) was used following 0, 3 or 5 days of fermentation prior to heat treatment in order to produce the cultivation substrate. The microbiological content before and after the heat treatment, the mycelial colonization by P. pulmonarius and Trichoderma viride in competition and the yield of P. pulmonarius were all evaluated. Results. We observed that inoculation with P. polymyxa increased the number of cultivable bacteria and changed the composition of the community. The inoculation decreased the colonization ability of T. viride and favored the mycelial growth, although the yield of mushrooms was affected. Higher yields of P. pulmomarius were obtained in the control substrate where no contamination of Trichoderma spp. was observed. Conclusions. Addition of P. polymyxa modified the natural microbiological succession in a fermentation of barley straw for 5 days, favoring the competitiveness of P. pulmonarius against T. viride. Fermentation of barley straw for 3 days, followed by heat treatment, benefits the yield and protection of P. pulmonarius against Trichoderma viride.

Abstract

Ground-state fluctuations reduce the zero-temperature magnetic moments of the spins in a quantum antiferromagnet. In the neighborhood of surfaces, interfaces, and other defects which break translational symmetry, these fluctuations are not uniform. Because of this the magnetic moments of up and down spins do not exactly compensate each other--as they do in a bulk antiferromagnet. At a surface or interface this leads to a small magnetic dipole density. The corresponding dipole field can account for the magnitude of observed exchange fields. At finite temeperatures localized surface (interface) excitations are populated and change the dipole density. This gives rise to the temperature-dependence of the exchange field. We expect the fluctuation-induced surface dipole density to play a role in the magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic nano-particles, as well.

10. Cultivation of Mexican wild strains of Agaricus bisporus, the button mushroom, under different growth conditions in vitro and determination of their productivity

Abstract

Description of the subject. Edible mushrooms cultivation is one of the most important agro-industries in Mexico, showing good impact on food production through a controlled biotechnological process. National production is supported by foreign strains although this region has a great biological diversity in wild mushrooms species with adaptatively advantages to the local environment, but these genetic resources have been few studied, especially for Agaricus species. Objectives. To unravel the potential of wild Mexican strains of Agaricus bisporus for the production of fruiting bodies on compost. Method. The mycelial growth rate of eight A. bisporus strains (two wild, six commercial) in culture media was assessed by supplementing a malt extract medium with yeast extract (YMEA), yeast extract and indulin AT (YMEA-indulin AT), and compost extract (CMEA) at three different incubation temperatures (22, 25 and 28 °C). Mycelial growth was evaluated in solid media (mm·day-1) and liquid culture (decrease in the phenol content). Four strains (two wild, two commercial) with the best in vitro results were selected to obtain carpophores on compost and evaluate their yields. Results. The highest values of mycelial growth were observed in CMEA and the greatest decrease in phenol content was recorded for YME. Biological efficiencies of the four selected strains were 50.8 to 95.5%, and yields were 7.4 to 14.1 kg·m-2 in crop cycles of 74 to 98 days. Basidiomes 5 to 15 cm in diameter predominated. Conclusions. The characteristics of the wild strains indicate their suitability for the regional market, but additional experiments are necessary to improve their productivity parameters.

Abstract

The Australian dryland grain-cropping landscape occupies 60 Mha. The broader agricultural sector (farmers and agronomic advisors, grain handlers, commodity forecasters, input suppliers, insurance providers) required information at many spatial and temporal scales. Temporal scales included hindcasts, nowcasts and forecasts, at spatial scales ranging from sub-field to the continent. International crop-monitoring systems could not service the need of local industry for digital information on crop production estimates. Therefore, we combined a broad suite of satellite-based crop-mapping, crop-modelling and data-delivery techniques to create an integrated analytics system (Graincast™) that covers the Australian cropping landscape. In parallel with technical developments, a set of user requirements was identified through a human-centred design process, resulting in an end-product that delivered a viable crop-monitoring service to industry. This integrated analytics solution can now produce crop information at scale and on demand and can deliver the output via an application programming interface. The technology was designed to underpin digital agriculture developments for Australia. End-users are now using crop-monitoring data for operational purposes, and we argue that a vertically integrated data supply chain is required to develop crop-monitoring technology further. The Graincast™ suite of tools was developed to monitor crop productivity in near real-time across the Australian landscape. Four separate tools were created: the C-Crop model, which monitors crop yields with satellite; CropID, which monitors the crop species and areas of production; the Graincast™ app, which provides field-scale estimates of crop production and soil-water use; and Field Boundaries (ePaddocks), which identifies every cropped field across the landscape. Abstract

Background: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) has a high recurrence rate after renal transplantation, which significantly impacts renal graft survival. However, the factors related to recurrence remain unclear. Objective: This study aimed to analyze focal segmental recurrence and evolution of glomerulosclerosis after renal transplantation. Methods: This was a descriptive, retrospective study involving 88 adults who underwent renal transplantation within a 15-year period. Demographic and clinical characteristics, as well as the occurrence of graft loss, were analyzed. Over the study period, 88 patients with a diagnosis of FSGS after transplantation were identified. Results: The mean age of the patients (n=54, males) was 29.1 years. Transplants with deceased donors predominated (60.9%). Calcineurin and prednisone inhibitors were present in 96.4% of the initial immunosuppression regimens. The mean time of onset of proteinuria greater than 0.5 g/g was 20.51 days. At 60 months after transplantation, 44.16% of the patients had partial remission, 25.97% had complete remission, and 29.87% had no remission. However, 50.60% of the patients developed graft loss throughout the analyzed period. Eight patients (9.4%) died within 60 months, of which five (62.5%) were attributed to infection. Conclusion: Our results indicate that FSGS after renal transplantation is a disease of high recurrence that is commonly precocious, and the histological alterations in light microscopy are not simultaneous to the appearance of proteinuria. Hypertension is considered a risk factor causing progression and recurrence. Thus, prospective studies are required to better evaluate progression and recurrence factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
