Weight faltering (WF) has been associated with stunting and with long-term adverse consequences for health and development. Nutritional care for managing WF may consist of giving nutritional advice (NA) and/or provision of oral nutrition supplements (ONSs). In this study, we aimed to evaluate practical management options in the community for infants with WF aged 6–12 months. This nonrandomized clinical trial was conducted in the community of Makassar, South Sulawesi, from March 2022 to March 2023. A total of 1013 infants were enrolled for screening. Anthropometric measures were performed in 913 infants, of which 170 showed WF below the 15th percentile of the WHO weight increment table without stunting. Infants with a weight increment below P5th were assigned to receive NA plus ONS, while infants between P5th and below P15th were assigned to receive only NA. At the second and third months, ONSs were administered to WF infants who were below P15th. One month after the intervention, 87/105 infants in the NA-plus-ONS group (82.8%) and 52/65 infants in the NA-only group (80%) were no longer WF. After 3 months, infants in the NA-plus-ONS group achieved greater weight gain than infants in the NA group (264.1 g vs. 137.4 g, p < 0.001) as well as greater length gain (2.35 cm vs. 2.14 cm, p < 0.001). WF management should be started at below P15th to achieve a better result. Infants with greater nutritional deficits should be assigned to receive the combination of NA plus ONSs to achieve a higher rate of resolution of growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Indoor air quality can affect the spread of airborne microorganisms which can lead to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The quality and quantity of airborne microorganisms are responsible for mortality and morbidity in infection-prone hosts such as patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). The research aims to determine the quality of microorganisms in the air, identify the types of aerobic bacteria, and assess the physical parameters of the air in the ICU. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study with a descriptive observational method. Air specimens were collected using the MAS-100 NT tool with blood agar plate solid culture media, which then incubated in an aerobic atmosphere for 24 hours at 37±2°C. Observation and measurement of air microbiological quality was by counting the number of microorganisms in CFU/m3 and identification of bacteria using MALDI-TOF MS. Results and Discussion: The maximum concentration of microorganisms in the air exceeds the standard value, and the average value of the concentration of microorganisms in the air is 736 CFU/m3. The most common types of aerobic bacteria in the air were Bacillus sp. (n=12), Coagulase-negative Staphylococci (n=5), and Staphylococcus aureus (n=5). There was an increase in physical parameters in the form of average temperature (26.24°C) and humidity (70%) with a ventilation system and air regulation using mechanical ventilation sourced from a split air conditioner with an exhaust fan without a high-efficiency particulate-absorbing (HEPA) filter. Conclusion: Low indoor air quality has the potential to increase the concentration of microorganisms and bacterial findings in the air. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the application of mangosteen pericarp extract cream (Garcinia Mangostana L) on levels of 8-OHdG on the skin of mice after exposure to UVB. Method: The study use a pure animal experimental research design with control group. The criteria for inclution were species Swiss albino mice, aged 6 - 9 weeks, weight 20-30 g, female gender and healthy.. The samples that met the criteria were divided into 5 groups : UVB, Base Cream plus UVB, 3 groups mangosteen pericarp extract cream with different concentration UVB radiation in mice using a 311 nm narrowband UVB (Dermalight 1000) with the power 450 mJ/cm three times a week for 4 week. Elisa examination was carried out before and after the experiment. Result: This study used 25 mice albino selected randomly and were divided into 5 treatment group consisting of 5 group : UVB alone, UVB with base cream, UVB with mangosten pericarp extract cream with concentration of 1 %, 3 % and 5 %. The Comperative test levels of 8-OhdG between each group with Post Hoc test and found It was concluded that the decrease in OhdG was greatest in group 2 followed by groups 5, 4, 3, and 1 (control group), respectively. Conclution: The ELISA levels of 8-OHdG was found that there are significant difference as between the various treatment groups (p>0,05). However, the increasing concentration of mangosten pericarp extract cream showed decreased level of 8-OHdG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Leprosy, caused by Mycobacterium leprae, is a chronic infectious disease that impacts the skin and peripheral nerves, causing long-term disability. The invasion of M. leprae into the body triggers immunologic responses and single single-nucleotide polymorphisms in cytokine-encoding genes may influence predisposition and susceptibility, possibly predicting the incidence of leprosy reactions. The aim of this study was to assess the gene polymorphism of interleukin-10 promoter IL-10 -819C/T in leprosy patients, leprosy patients with erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) reaction, and household contacts. A total of 54 individuals were included, with 18 in each group. Skin smear and histopathologic examinations were used to confirm the diagnosis of leprosy and ENL. The polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique was used to determine the polymorphism. The results confirmed the presence of polymorphism of which all TT, CT, and CC genotypes presented. The TT genotype was most prevalent in household contacts (94.4%) followed by ENL (50%), and leprosy patients (44.4%). The CT genotype was most frequently detected in leprosy patients (50%), followed by ENL cases (44.4%), and household contacts (5.56%). In contrast, CC was mostly presented in ENL cases (5.56%), only 1% in leprosy patients, and absent among household contacts. Although the most prevalent allele in all three groups was the T allele, the C allele presented in 27% and 30% of ENL and leprosy patients, respectively and only 5% in household contact individuals. This study suggests that the polymorphism variations of IL-10 -819C/T are higher in leprosy and ENL patients compared to household contacts.
