Research has been conducted on the Pt(P(t-Bu) (sub)3) (sub)2 complex. The electronic absorption and magnetic circular dichroism spectra for this complex have been investigated in the 2-methylpentane solvent and the results are presented.

Research has been conducted on the electronic absorption and magnetic circular dichroism spectra for nitrate salts. Results indicate that low temperature enhances resolution.

Electronic absorption and 8.0 T magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra at room temperature were carefully measured for BiX(sub 6)(super 3-) complexes in acetonitrile solutions containing excess halide ligand. The spectra showed a prominent low-energy band that accompanied by a strong positive A term and was assigned to a metal-centered 6s to 6p transition to a formally triplet state which correlates with the 3P1 atomic state or A band. At higher energy, intense bands were seen with accompanying MCD spectra that resemble somewhat weaker negative A terms.

The electronic absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) of Pd(AuPPh3)sub8sup2+ and Pt(AuPPh3)sub8sup2+ in acetonitrile solutions were analyzed at room temperature. The platinum-centered gold cluster complexes exhibited low-energy MCD spectral changes during the substitution of the Pt atom for Pd or Au due to the presence of Pt-Au transitions. Furthermore, the relative orbital energies of the Pt(AuP(p-tolyl3)sub8)sup2+ complex was not affected by the additional electron density from the phosphine.

Magnetic circular dichroism and electronic absorption for Hg3(dppm)3(SO4)2 in 5:3:2 v/v ethanol-methanol-ether solvent at 295 K revealed two minima at 2.99 and 3.41 micrometer(super -1) which was resolved into a positive A term at 3.12 micrometer(super -1) and a negative B term at 3.4 micrometer(super -1) at 80 K. The data were interpreted in terms of 6s 6s sigma to sigma* and 6s 6p sigma to pi metal-centered transitions. The A term in the region of the lowest energy band was attributed to the transition to the sigma to pi transition to E'((super3)A(sub 2)').

Acetonitrile solutions reveal electronic absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra in the UV-visible area. Ligand to metal charge transfer (LMCT) characterizes the intensity of the bands and the MCD B terms seen in the compounds. The MCD related to the LMCT bands varies from that in other areas due to the occurrence of localized M in the complexes. The spectra also reveal internal ligand transfers.

Binuclear Pt2(SO4)4X(sub 2)(super n-) and Pt2(HPO4)4X(sub 2)(super n-) ions were subjected to spectrometric analysis. Absorption and magnetic circular dichroism spectra were obtained in the ultraviolet-visible region. The results indicated that the ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) of the diaqua complexes were derived from bridged oxygen ligands while that of the dihalo complexes were obtained from axial halide ligands.

The temperature dependent magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) measurement of colloidal gold nanoparticles and Au9 ((PPh3)(sub 8))(super 3+) cluster complex ions are experimented based on a high quality optically transparent xerogels. The MCD spectra of colloidal gold in xerogel represent the signature of an excited-state phenomenon for the surface plasmon transition at 523nm and temperature independent between 5.5 and 295K.
