Abstract

This article discusses a study conducted to understand the cardiovascular remodeling and function in fetuses with tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) using echocardiography. The study included 63 ToF fetuses and 66 healthy fetuses as controls. The results showed that ToF fetuses had lower cardiac sphericity index with biventricular hypertrophy, prolonged filling time fractions, and increased cardiac index. Additionally, there were associations between certain echocardiographic parameters and postnatal outcomes. Abstract

Abstract

This article, titled "Association of prenatal conatal cysts with structural and genetic anomalies," discusses the distinction between conatal and subependymal cysts in fetal life. Conatal cysts are generally considered benign, while subependymal cysts are associated with neurological damage, genetic anomalies, or infections. The study aims to evaluate the association of prenatal conatal cysts with structural and genetic anomalies and postnatal outcomes. The retrospective study included 13 fetuses diagnosed with conatal cysts, with most cases showing no other structural anomalies. Additional tests, such as chromosomal microarray and MRI, were performed, and the postnatal outcomes were generally normal. Abstract

This article discusses a rare brain malformation called septopreoptic holoprosencephaly (SP-HPE), which is characterized by incomplete division of the forebrain. The article presents a case study of a 29-year-old pregnant woman who was diagnosed with SP-HPE through fetal neurosonography (NS). The NS revealed thickening of the septum pellucidum (SP) and undivided septum pellucidum leaves, among other findings. This is the first reported case of prenatal diagnosis of SP-HPE using NS, as previous cases have been diagnosed postnatally. Abstract

This article, titled "Longitudinal assessment of abnormal cortical folding in fetuses and neonates with isolated non-severe ventriculomegaly," explores the impact of ventriculomegaly (VM) on prenatal cortical development. The study included 15 fetuses with isolated non-severe VM and 15 controls, and used MRI to assess volumetric and cortical folding measures. The results showed that fetuses with VM had higher ventricular volumes and different cortical volumes compared to the control group. Additionally, the study found a delay in cortical development in fetuses with VM, resulting in reduced cortical folding, cortical volume overgrowth, and a thicker cortex. Abstract
