Abstract

The Caucasus and surrounding areas, with their rich metal resources, became a crucible of the Bronze Age1 and the birthplace of the earliest steppe pastoralist societies2. Yet, despite this region having a large influence on the subsequent development of Europe and Asia, questions remain regarding its hunter-gatherer past and its formation of expansionist mobile steppe societies3-5. Here we present new genome-wide data for 131 individuals from 38 archaeological sites spanning 6,000 years. We find a strong genetic differentiation between populations north and south of the Caucasus mountains during the Mesolithic, with Eastern hunter-gatherer ancestry4,6 in the north, and a distinct Caucasus hunter-gatherer ancestry7 with increasing East Anatolian farmer admixture in the south. During the subsequent Eneolithic period, we observe the formation of the characteristic West Eurasian steppe ancestry and heightened interaction between the mountain and steppe regions, facilitated by technological developments of the Maykop cultural complex8. By contrast, the peak of pastoralist activities and territorial expansions during the Early and Middle Bronze Age is characterized by long-term genetic stability. The Late Bronze Age marks another period of gene flow from multiple distinct sources that coincides with a decline of steppe cultures, followed by a transformation and absorption of the steppe ancestry into highland populations.

Abstract

In this research, combined effect of chlorin e6 and noninvasive 20 kHz, low-powered ultrasound on melanoma cells is proposed for the first time. The proposed combination incorporates the application of safe low-frequency ultrasound that is used for transdermal drug delivery. We demonstrate that impact of the 20 kHz ultrasound on chlorin e6 leads to strong sonodynamic effect in melanoma cells. We also show that chlorin e6 keeps its monomeric form in the cells and does not aggregate after exposure to ultrasound. We propose a two-step model where sonoluminescence serves as an internal light source for the chlorin e6 photoactivation., Comment: 26 pages, 8 figures

6. Determination of heavy metal contamination and pollution indices of atmospheric dust in Dushanbe and Ayvaj, Tajikistan

Abstract

In this paper was studied the content of heavy metals in atmospheric dust of Dushanbe and Ayvaj. Dust samples were taken and analyzed to determine the content of heavy metals (HM): Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, V, Ni, Co, As, Sr, MnO, TiO2 and Fe2O3 using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The pollution levels and environmental risks of HMs were assessed using the geoaccumulation index, contamination factor, pollution load index and potential ecological risk index. The results revealed severe contamination of atmospheric dust from Ayvaj and Dushanbe with particularly hazardous HMs such as As and Pb, the proportion of As is higher in the dust of Dushanbe, and the contribution of Pb is significant in the samples of Ayvaj. The concentrations of As, Pb, Zn, MnO, Sr, TiO2, V, Co in the dust of Dushanbe and As, Pb, Zn, Sr, TiO2, Cu in the dust of Ayvaj showed high variability (CV> 35%), which indicates an intense influence of anthropogenic activity. The results of the pollution factor analysis show that As, Co, V in Ayvaj atmospheric dust samples and Pb, Cr, Ni, V, MnO in Dushanbe samples were assigned to the class of very high pollution (CF>3). According to the results of the geoaccumulation index Ayvaj is heavily polluted with the following elements: V, Pb, Cr (3< Igeo ≤4). Based on the ecological risk index method, As and Pb were found to be priority pollutants in the study areas.

Abstract

One of the main factors causing climate and weather changes is dust aerosol in the air. The article analyzes the interannual variation in the occurrence of atmospheric parameters (aerosol optical depth (AOD), water vapor (humidity) content (W) and the Ångström parameter (α), obtained from systematic measurements at the AERONET station in Dushanbe. A comparative analysis of the frequency of occurrence of atmospheric parameters according to AERONET data in the period from 2019 till 2022 years. The main reasons for changes of annual variation of aerosol parameters are meteorological factors, and changes in the dispersed structure of aerosol particles of different origins. The distribution contours of AOD and α have a singlemode character, variations of W are much wider and more diverse and do not have a pronounced form with characteristic contours of occurrence frequency for interannual values of AOD and α. The constructed frequency histograms make it possible to assess the dynamics of atmospheric parameters and predict the state of the entire climate system.

Abstract

The results of experiments on studying nucleon and cluster transfer processes in the reactions of the 6Li (68 MeV) ions with the 9Be target nuclei are presented. The angular distributions for the reaction channels 9Be(6Li,α)11Bg.s and 9Be(6Li,10B)5Heg.s. have been measured. To describe the possible contributions of sequential transfer of nucleons and alpha clusters, as well as direct transfer of the 5Не cluster, the DWBA method (FRESCO) is used, the spectroscopic amplitudes are obtained for the configurations of (9Be+d) and (6Li+5He) in the 11B nucleus and (6Li+α) in the 10B nucleus. The results of the theoretical analysis agree with the experimental data and indicate a strong correlation between a neutron and an α-cluster, leading to the formation of the 5Не cluster in the transfer processes.

Abstract

The Scythian archaeological culture is a component of the Scythian-Siberian community of equestrian nomadic pastoralists located in the northern Black Sea region and Ciscaucasia. This paper explores whether the Scythians were present in the central Pre-Caucasus all year round or only during a part of the year and were migrating seasonally. Since Scythian settlements are not known in this region, a possible clue may come from determining the season of the year in which the Scythians buried their deceased tribesmen and performed memorial events. In this paper, we determine the seasonality of the burials and memorial events at the mound burial ground Novozavedennoye-III (southern Russia), dated to 430–300 b.c., by applying cementum increment analysis to horse teeth. This analysis has shown that the studied horses died during May–October. This result indicates that the Scythians were present in the central Pre-Caucasus foothills during some part of the warm season. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Chirality is one of the most fascinating occurrences in the natural world and plays a crucial role in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and medicine. Chirality has also been envisaged to play an important role in nanotechnology and particularly in nanophotonics, therefore, chiral and chiroptical active nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted a lot of interest over recent years. Optical activity can be induced in NPs in several different ways, including via the direct interaction of achiral NPs with a chiral molecule. This results in circular dichroism (CD) in the region of the intrinsic absorption of the NPs. This interaction in turn affects the optical properties of the chiral molecule. Recently, studies of induced chirality in quantum dots (QDs) has deserved special attention and this phenomenon has been explored in detail in a number of important papers. In this article, we review these important recent advances in the preparation and formation of chiral molecule–QD systems and analyze the mechanisms of induced chirality, the factors influencing CD spectra shape and the intensity of the CD, as well as the effect of QDs on chiral molecules. We also consider potential applications of these types of chiroptical QDs including sensing, bioimaging, enantioselective synthesis, circularly polarized light emitters, and spintronic devices. Finally, we highlight the problems and possibilities that can arise in research areas concerning the interaction of QDs with chiral molecules and that a mutual influence approach must be taken into account particularly in areas, such as photonics, cell imaging, pharmacology, nanomedicine and nanotoxicology.

Abstract

The issues of the search for the sources of financing and technology transfer and increase of volumes of high-technology industry are quite urgent for Ukraine. The goal of the article is development of a graphical model of the process of creation of innovations depending on financing conditions. The authors offered a logistical approach to modelling the process of creation of innovations depending on resources. Methods of graphical differentiation showed that the most efficient is the middle part of the second period of creation of an innovation. This period is also the most attractive for commercialisation and transfer of the results of scientific research. The article describes a prospective structure of virtual offices of technology transfer based on achievements of new information technologies that operate in a continuous mode.Для Украины вопрос о поиске источников финансирования и трансфера технологий, увеличения объемов высокотехнологичной промышленности является актуальным. Целью статьи являлась разработка графической модели процесса создания инноваций в зависимости от условий финансирования. Авторы предложили логистический подход к моделированию процесса создания инноваций в зависимости от ресурсов. Методы графического дифференцирования показали, что наиболее эффективной является средняя часть второго периода создания инноваций. Этот период также является наиболее привлекательным для коммерциализации и трансфера результатов научных исследований. Описана перспективная структура виртуальных офисов трансфера технологий, построенная на достижениях новых информационных технологий, работающих в непрерывном режиме.

24. Observation of rapid aerosol deposition according to AERONET data

Abstract

Measurements at the AERONET station in Dushanbe showed that the diurnal variations of the aerosol optical thickness (AOT), humidity, Ångström parameter depend on the stratification of the atmosphere. It is established that the dynamics of the aerosol in the ground inversion temperature layer is determined by the effect of double diffusion, which is manifested as a result of the difference in the diffusion coefficients of the components. As the temperature and aerosol concentration increase from the bottom to the top, vertical convection cells of the "salt finger" type are formed, which cause a rapid settling of dust by means of condensation of water vapor and coagulation of particles and water droplets.

Abstract

The results of the investigation of the isotopes distributions Tl-208, Pb-212, Ac-228, Pb-214, Bi-214, Th-234, Ra-226, Pb-210, Cs-137, Be-7 and K-40 in the samples of atmospheric aerosol of the southern, central and northern parts of Tajikistan are presented. Significant correlations were found between the concentrations of Cs-137 and Th-234 isotopes (0.95), Cs-137 and Ra-226 (0.95), Ra-226 and Bi-214 (0.84), Ac-228 and Ra-226 (0.75), Pb-210 and Pb-214 (0.69), Ac-228 and Pb-214 (0.64), K-40 and Pb-212 (0.71), Cs-137 and Bi-214 (0.78), Th-234 and Pb-212 (0.67). Correlations between the concentrations of the remaining isotopes are insignificant or negative. The statistical data for dust intrusion shows that the concentration of isotopes K-40, Cs-137 and Bi-214 exceeds the background pollution level by hundreds of times, and the remaining isotopes - dozens of times.

Abstract

The article describes the results of measurements that were carried out systematically during 2010-2017 at the AERONET station in Dushanbe. The data on the changes of aerosol optical thickness (AOT), moisture content and Ångström parameter are described. The seasonal and annual variations of these quantities were analyzed. The regularities of repeatability histograms as statistical characteristics of the atmospheric parameters were studied.

Abstract

A study of the 11B(3He,d)12C reaction at incident 3He energy Elab = 25 MeV has been performed at the K-130 cyclotron at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Differential cross sections have been measured for the 13.35 MeV state and for the states with excitation energy around 20 MeV in 12C. The data were analyzed with the DWBA method. A tentative assignment, 4−, is given for the state at 13.35 MeV in a joint study of the reaction and inelastic scattering of α-particles with the energy of 110 MeV. For the state at 20.98 MeV, the possible spin-parity 3− and the isospin T =0 are assigned for the first time. Our model description of the broad state at 21.6 MeV is consistent with the previous assignments of isospin T = 0 and spin-parity of 2+ or 3−. The excited state at 22.4 MeV may have possible spin-parities of either 6+ or 5−. The collected statistics was insufficient to solve this question. Rotational bands which can exist in 12C were presented. peerReviewed

Abstract

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been infecting humans for millennia and remains a global health problem, but its past diversity and dispersal routes are largely unknown. We generated HBV genomic data from 137 Eurasians and Native Americans dated between ~10,500 and ~400 years ago. We date the most recent common ancestor of all HBV lineages to between ~20,000 and 12,000 years ago, with the virus present in European and South American hunter-gatherers during the early Holocene. After the European Neolithic transition, Mesolithic HBV strains were replaced by a lineage likely disseminated by early farmers that prevailed throughout western Eurasia for ~4000 years, declining around the end of the 2nd millennium BCE. The only remnant of this prehistoric HBV diversity is the rare genotype G, which appears to have reemerged during the HIV pandemic.

Abstract

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been infecting humans for millennia and remains a global health problem, but its past diversity and dispersal routes are largely unknown. We generated HBV genomic data from 137 Eurasians and Native Americans dated between ~10,500 and ~400 years ago. We date the most recent common ancestor of all HBV lineages to between ~20,000 and 12,000 years ago, with the virus present in European and South American hunter-gatherers during the early Holocene. After the European Neolithic transition, Mesolithic HBV strains were replaced by a lineage likely disseminated by early farmers that prevailed throughout western Eurasia for ~4000 years, declining around the end of the 2nd millennium BCE. The only remnant of this prehistoric HBV diversity is the rare genotype G, which appears to have reemerged during the HIV pandemic.

Abstract

Magnetic-luminescent composites based on semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) can serve as a platform combining visualization and therapy. Here, we report the construction of QD-SPION nanocomposites based on synthesized SPIONs and alloyed QDs (Cd x Zn 1 − x Se y S 1 − y) / ZnS solubilized with L-cysteine molecules. The study of the spectral-luminescence characteristics, the kinetics of luminescence decay show the composite's stability in a solution. After incubation with HeLa cells, QDs, SPIONs, and their composites form clusters on the cell surface and associate with endosomes inside the cells. Component-wise analysis of the photoluminescence decay of cell-associated QDs/SPIONs provides information about their localization and aggregate status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper presents the theoretical analysis of neutron transfer mechanism for the reaction 181Ta(18O, 19O) at energies 81.86 and 90.05 MeV in the center of mass system. Numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation is used for studying neutron transfer processes. The evolution of the wave function for the neutron from the uppermost occupied single-particle neutron level of the 181Ta nucleus is determined. The dynamics of neutron transfer process is described and the probabilities of occupation of initially unoccupied single-particle neutron levels of the 18O nucleus are determined.
