1. ToffA-DSPL: an approach of trade-off analysis for designing dynamic software product lines

Abstract

Software engineers have adopted the Dynamic Software Product Lines (DSPL) engineering practices to develop Dynamically Adaptable Software (DAS). DAS is seen as a DSPL application and must cope with a large number of configurations of features, Non-functional Requirements (NFRs), and contexts. However, the accurate representation of the impact of features over NFRs and contexts for the identification of optimal configurations is not a trivial task. Software engineers need to have domain knowledge and design DAS before deploying to satisfy those requirements. Aiming to handle them, we proposed an approach of Trade-off Analysis for DSPL at design-time, named ToffA-DSPL. It deals with the configuration selection process considering interactions between NFRs and contexts. We performed an exploratory study based on simulations to identify the usefulness of the ToffA-DSPL approach. In general, the configurations suggested by ToffA-DSPL provide high satisfaction levels of NFRs. Based on simulations, we evidenced that our approach aims to explore reuse and is useful for generating valid and optimal configurations. In addition, ToffA-DSPL enables software engineers to conduct trade-off analysis, evaluate changes in the context feature, and define an adaptation model from optimal configurations found in the analysis.

With the purpose of producing high quality software, many approaches to apply structural testing criteria for the unit testing of procedural and object-oriented (OO) programs have been proposed. Nevertheless, until now, few works have addressed the application of such criteria to test aspect-oriented programs. In this paper we define a family of control flow and data flow based testing criteria for aspect-oriented programs inspired by the implementation strategy adopted by AspectJ - an aspect-oriented extension of the Java language - and extending a previous work proposed for Java programs. We propose the derivation of a control and data flow model for aspect-oriented programs based upon the static analysis of the object code (the Java bytecode) resulted from the compilation/weaving process. Using this model, called aspect-oriented def-use graph (AODU), traditional and also aspect-oriented testing criteria are defined (called Control and Data Flow Structural Testing Criteria for Aspect-Oriented Programs - CDSTC-AOP). The main idea is that composition of aspect-oriented programs leads to new crosscutting interfaces in several modules of the system, which must be considered for coverage during structural testing. The implementation of a prototype tool - the JaBUTi/AJ tool - to support the proposed criteria and model is presented along with an example. Also, theoretical and practical questions regarding the CDSTC-AOP criteria are discussed. Systematic approaches for defining the structural organization are […], This paper presents a formal definition for HMBS (Hypermedia Model Based on Statecharts). HMBS uses the structure and execution semantics of statecharts to specify both the structural organization and the browsing semantics of hypermedia applications. Statecharts are an extension of finite-state machines and the model is thus a generalization of hypergraph-based hypertext models. Some of the most important features of HMBS are its ability to model hierarchy and synchronization of information; provision of mechanisms for specifying access structures, navigational contexts, access control, multiple tailored versions, and hierarchical views. Analysis of the underlying statechart machine allows verification of page reachability, valid paths, and other properties, thus providing mechanisms to support authors in the development of structured applications. Abstract

International audience; By their very nature, services are accessible only as black-boxes through their published interfaces. It is a well known issue that lack of implementation details may reduce service testability. In previous work, we proposed testable services as a solution to provide third-party services with structural coverage information after a test session, yet without revealing their internal details. However, integrators do not have enough information to improve their test set when they get a low coverage measure because they do not know which test requirements have not been covered. This paper proposes an approach in which testable services are provided along with test metadata that may help integrators to get a higher coverage. The approach is illustrated on a case study of a real system that uses orchestrations and testable services. A formal experiment designed to compare the proposed solution with a functional approach is also presented. The results show evidences that subjects using the testable service approach augmented with metadata can achieve better coverage than subjects using only a functional approach.
