P.I.P.P.I. is a research-training-intervention program funded by Italian Ministry of Welfare and developed as an intensive care program for vulnerable families. P.I.P.P.I. is inspired by Pippi-Longstocking, whose life is a particular resilience metaphor, and stands for Program of Intervention for Prevention of Institutionalization. It aims at preventing child placement supporting parenting through a resilience based care process within an ecological perspective participation and multi-professional and intensive-intervention are key. Tools were used with children and parents, in order to give them voice, to collect their points of view on their life situation, and therefore to develop a shared care plan where everyone is a main character of the intervention. The main tool is R.P.M., an online-tool developed by University of Padua, that is based on the British Assessment-Framework and it is used for each child to assess, plan and evaluate intervention. The first implementation (2011- 2012) involved more than 200 practitioners working in 10 Italian cities with 10 vulnerable-families each city (136 children 0-11 years old). Data were collected using questionnaires to measure parents’ satisfaction, children’s behaviour (SDQ), families’ social support (MsPSS), and family-functioning (Assessment-Framework). The second implementation (2013-2014), currently in progress in the same cities to consolidate and extend P.I.P.P.I., involves about 500 practitioners and 280 children (180 families). The results of first implementation and the available data of the second one will be presented to give evidence to the program and to show how a participatory resilience based practice can foster social work with families and promote their improvement.

We describe our adjuvant treatment approach and our results of subsequent multidisciplinary care of resected pancreatic cancer patients.Materials and methods: Between January 2007 and May 2012, 17 patients with resected pancreatic cancer underwent adjuvant radiochemotherapy. Radiotherapy was delivered with a three-dimensional-conformational multiple field technique at a total dose of 50.4–54.0 Gy. Chemotherapy consisted of gemcitabine (200 mg/m2/week) or fluorouracil (200 mg/m2/day).Results: 16 patients completed programmed treatment; one patient suspended planned adjuvant treatment because of hematological toxicity grade 3. He was the only case of toxicity grade 3. At a median follow-up of 17.7 months, nine patients are still disease-free survivors. The 2-year survival was 30%.Discussion: Our experience in resected pancreatic cancer patients treated with a radiochemotherapy regimen highlights the survival and toxicity profile benefits associated with concomitant treatment.Keywords: pancreatic cancer, adjuvant treatment, pancreas

A systematic study has been carried for the use of the Palladium-based Extended One Pot (EOP) synthetic protocol toward the preparation of metal alkynyl oligomers of general formula [-CC-Ar-CC-M(L)m-]n (M = Pt, Pd). Model compounds of type trans-M(PBu3)2(CCC6H4)2 have been prepared by the reaction of tributyltinethynylbenzene with trans-M(PBu3)2Cl2, in the absence of palladium catalysis, since the presence of catalytic Pd(PPh3)4 yields reaction mixtures containing starting material, product and intermediate complex trans-MCl(PBu3)2(CCC6H4). Palladium catalysis has been used for the formation of the bistinacetylide compounds Bu3Sn-CC-Ar-CC-SnBu3 (Ar = C6H4; bis(2,5-n-octyloxy)C6H4,). Subsequent coupling of these compounds with MCl2(PBu3)2 in the absence of palladium catalyst yields metal alkynyl oligomers. Comparison of 31P NMR and GPC analyses indicates that the GPC technique represents a reliable method to estimate polymer chain lengths for polymers bearing branched aromatic spacers, in spite of the rigid-rod shape of the polymer backbone. Single crystal X-ray determinations of model compounds demonstrate the essential role of side substituents in the aromatic ring to control the supramolecular order and, as a consequence, the optoelectronic properties of materials.

A systematic study directed towards the preparation of metal acetylide oligomers of the formula [-CºC-Ar-CºC-M(L)m-]n via a palladium-catalysed Extended One Pot (EOP) synthetic protocol has shown that, for M = Pt, Pd, palladium catalysis leads to the selective formation of bistinacetylydes Bu3Sn-CºC-Ar-CºC-SnBu3 (Ar = C6H4, C6H2(3,6-bis-OC8H17)). The coupling of the latter compounds with Cl2M(L)2 (M = Pt, Pd) to form metal acetylide oligomers is a thermally activated process that efficiently takes place, yielding short oligomers, only in the absence of any palladium catalyst. The GPC technique has proved to be a reliable method to estimate the chain lengths of polymers bearing branched aromatic spacers, despite the rigid-rod shape of their backbone. Single crystal X-ray determinations of model compounds have demonstrated the fundamental role of the side substituents in the aryl spacers to control the supramolecular order of the oligomeric materials.
