The robust filtering problem is tackled for a class of shift-varying two-dimensional systems with uncertain-variance noises under the scheduling of the weighted try-once-discard (WTOD) protocol. The measurements collected from the sensors are transmitted to a remote filter via a shared network. To alleviate the communication burden and obviate the network congestion, the WTOD protocol is adopted to orchestrate the data transmission, where a sensor node is solely permitted to broadcast its information to the remote filter at every transmission step. Moreover, the resilient filter is exploited to regulate the possible gain perturbation. The objective of the addressed problem is to design a robust filter in a recursive structure such that, in the simultaneous presence of the uncertain-variance noises and the WTOD protocol, the minimal upper bounds (UBs) on the filtering error variances (EVs) are developed for the considered system. First, by means of induction and stochastic analysis technique, certain UBs in terms of coupled recursive difference equations are derived for the actual EVs. Then, a proper filter is carefully designed which achieves the minimization of the obtained UBs at each step. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed protocol-based filtering method.

Laser powder bed fusion of metals (PBF-LB/M) is advantageous for manufacturing bulk metallic glasses with size and geometrical freedom. However, the oxygen uptake along the production chain can negatively impact the generation of high-quality, amorphous parts. In this context, Cu–Ti-based alloys were gas-atomised and additively manufactured using commercial- (CP) and high-purity (HP) feedstocks. The oxygen absorption in each processing step was tracked and related to the amorphous phase formation and glass-forming ability (GFA) of alloys. Results show an increasing oxygen absorption, considerably influenced by the starting feedstock, especially for CP. In HP material, the most contribution is inherent from the powder oxygen content. Results reveal the lack of influence of the oxygen content in the GFA. TEM analysis of commercial powder and PBF-LB/M sample show uniform and featureless micrographs, displaying the absence of oxygen-induced nucleation. Membrane science and technology is growing rapidly worldwide and continues to play an increasingly important role in diverse fields by offering high separation efficiency with low energy consumption. Membranes have also shown great promise for “green” separation. A majority of the investigations in the field are devoted to the membrane fabrication and modification with the ultimate goals of enhancing the properties and separation performance of membranes. However, less attention has been paid to membrane life cycle management, particularly at the end of service. This is becoming very important, especially taking into account the trends toward sustainable development and carbon neutrality. On the contrary, this can be a great opportunity considering the large variety of membrane processes, especially in terms of the size and capacity of plants in operation. This work aims to highlight the prominent aspects that govern membrane life cycle management with special attention to life cycle assessment (LCA). While fabrication, application, and recycling are the three key aspects of LCA, we focus here on membrane (module) recycling at the end of life by elucidating the relevant aspects, potential criteria, and strategies that effectively contribute to the achievement of green development and sustainability goals.

Purpose Orthopaedic scores are essential for the clinical assessment of movement disorders but require an experienced clinician for the manual scoring. Wearable systems are taking root in the medical field and offer a possibility for the convenient collection of motion tracking data. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the feasibility of automated orthopaedic scorings based on motion tracking data using the Harris Hip Score and the Knee Society Score as examples. Methods Seventy-eight patients received a clinical examination and an instrumental gait analysis after hip or knee arthroplasty. Seven hundred forty-four gait features were extracted from each patient’s representative gait cycle. For each score, a hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted with a subsequent tenfold cross-validation. A data split of 70%/30% was applied for training/testing. Results Both scores can be reproduced with excellent coefficients of determination R2 for training, testing and cross-validation by applying regression models based on four to six features from instrumental gait analysis as well as the patient-reported parameter ‘pain’ as an offset factor. Conclusion Computing established orthopaedic scores based on motion tracking data yields an automated evaluation of a joint function at the hip and knee which is suitable for direct clinical interpretation. In combination with novel technologies for wearable data collection, these computations can support healthcare staff with objective and telemedical applicable scorings for a large number of patients without the need for trained clinicians.

High hardening of the steel, which is caused by martensitic transformation through cold forming, leads to significant local elastic roll deformation (flattening). The rolling of strain-hardened steel requires higher rolling forces and higher torques, which result in high rolling force. Roll flattening can be reduced by using rolls made of a material with a significantly higher modulus of elasticity. The suitability of ceramic materials for the rolls of modern cold and hot rolling mills was examined. The rolling tests with silicon nitride rolls were carried out with a two-high rolling stand with coilers. The industrial applications of silicon nitride rolls in the rolling of thin steel foils in a 20-high Sendzimir mill consistently showed excellent applicability of this material. A review of conducted research has shown that the use of silicon nitride work rolls minimizes roll flattening and leads to a significant reduction in rolling force

Zinc (Zn) is viewed as a promising anode material for large-scale secondary batteries. However, due to parasitic reactions and uneven Zn distribution during repeated stripping/plating cycles, Zn anodes show inferior performance and stability. To overcome such drawbacks, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (ASEI) is fabricated on a Zn sheet and Zn-graphite composite anode. The roles of CMC-ASEI are examined using X-ray tomography, X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). Results show that the carboxyl group in CMC can regulate the flux and local concentration of Zn ions at the surface, allowing uniform Zn dissolution/deposition, and can suppress corrosion by reducing water activities on the anode's surface. At 5 mA cm−², the Zn-iodine battery having CMC-ASEI can cycle up to 2,000 cycles. This work provides a simple and scalable solution for advanced Zn anodes for Zn-based batteries. CA extern

OA Förderung 2022 During the conversion of natural gas to liquified natural gas, sulfur components are separated by adsorption on zeolites. New zeolite materials may improve this adsorption process. In this paper, the adsorption of hydrogen sulfide is studied on seven faujasite (FAU) zeolites, which differ only in the number of sodium and calcium cations. From a pure NaX zeolite (13X), which contains only sodium cations, the calcium cation content was gradually increased by ion exchange. In a fixed-bed adsorber, cumulative equilibrium loadings of H2S on these zeolites were determined at concentrations between 50 and 2000 ppm at 25 and 85 °C and 1.3 bar (abs). Adsorption isotherms were analyzed considering the influence of cation positioning in the FAU zeolites. The experimental data indicate a superposition of a chemisorptive and a physisorptive mechanism. At a small number of chemisorptive sites, we conclude a dissociation of hydrogen sulfide and covalent bonding of the proton and the hydrogen sulfide ion to the zeolite lattice. The contribution of chemisorption exhibits a very low temperature dependence, which is typical for nearly irreversible reactions with an equilibrium strongly shifted to one side. With an increase in the proportion of Ca2+ cations, only physisorptive adsorption by electrostatic interaction with the cations in the lattice was observed. A large number of physisorptive sites have a lower energetic value. The share of physisorption strongly depends on temperature, which is characteristic of reversible equilibrium reactions.

Since the recent discovery of the template-free synthesis of porous boron nitride, research on the synthesis and application of the material has steadily increased. Nevertheless, the formation mechanism of boron nitride is not yet fully understood. Especially for the complex precursor decomposition of urea-based turbostratic boron nitride (t-BN), a profound understanding is still lacking. Therefore, in this publication, we investigate the influence of different common pre-heating temperatures of 100, 200, 300, and 400 °C on the subsequent properties of t-BN. We show that the structure and porosity of t-BN can be changed by preheating, where a predominantly mesoporous material can be obtained. Within these investigations, the sample BN-300/2 depicts the highest mesopore surface area of 242 m2 g-1 with a low amount of micropores compared to other BNs. By thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy, valid details about the formation of intermediates, types of chemical bonds, and the generation of t-BN are delivered. Hence, we conclude that the formation of a mesoporous material arises due to a more complete decomposition of the urea precursor by pre-heating. CA extern

In this study, a single-cylinder direct-injection spark-ignition research engine with full optical access was used to investigate the influence of the flow field and fuel/air mixing on cyclic variability, in particular in the early flame propagation. The engine was operated under lean-burn conditions at 1500 rpm. Two different injection strategies were compared, port-fuel injection (PFI) and direct injection (DI), the latter with early and late injection split about 2:1 in fuel mass. High-speed particle image velocimetry captured the flow in the tumble plane in the compression stroke. The velocity fields and the movement of the tumble vortex are analyzed. Simultaneously, a second camera detected the chemiluminescence of the flame, and the projected area of the line-of-sight-integrated flame luminosity was extracted through morphological image processing. By combining pressure-based combustion analysis and high-speed optical diagnostics, the early flame propagation and the flow field are correlated. In separate experiments the equivalence ratio was imaged for the DI at selected crank angles and correlated with CA10 to learn about the influence of mixture inhomogeneity on early flame propagation. With PFI, the flow near the spark plug just before ignition is closely related to the subsequent speed of combustion. The combustion-relevant flow features can be traced back in time to about –90 °CA. In contrast, the chosen DI scheme results in a decorrelation of flow and flame, and the equivalence ratio distribution at ignition becomes more important. For both flow and mixture fields, regions of high correlation with early-combustion metrics are typically associated with gradients in the multi-cycle average fields.

Data-driven models are obtained purely from data without complex theoretical modeling and without explicit model knowledge. This results in black box models whose traceability and reliability constitute a major challenge. This contribution addressed this issue and presents a novel hybrid estimation method, which enhances the reliability of artificial neural networks. Within this method, a simple model based on physical knowledge secures a model based on an artificial neural network. An unscented Kalman filter realizes the interaction of the two individual models. Thereby, a confidence level determines which model is trusted to a greater extent or even entirely. As part of the method for adjusting this confidence level, the input variables of the artificial neural network are related to the data used in training. The more often the artificial neural network has encountered a situation in the training process, the greater the confidence level will be. Finally, the confidence level is used to set the covariances of the unscented Kalman filter. In this contribution, the method is presented using the application of roll angle estimation for passenger cars. By using the hybrid method the reliability of the estimation is increased in comparison to the artificial neural network. For this purpose, sensor malfunctions as well as a sensor failure are simulated. These disturbances are compensated by the introduced method. In addition, the hybrid state estimator increases the estimation quality compared to the individual estimators. The proposed method can be applied to any problem, where knowledge-based models are available to secure data-driven models.

Machine learning (ML) provides machines the ability to automatically learn from data and past experience to identify patterns and make predictions for new data with minimal human intervention. Comparing with other statistical technologies, ML can improve calculation continuously, making decisions automatically, and identifying trends and patterns automatically. Based on the fact more datasets open to public, improved computer calculation capability, and internet speed acceleration, machine learning algorithms develop fast in the past decades. Large number of new ML approaches are raised and updated in the last years. However, most of these designed approaches target on one specific dataset, therefore, generalization of these approaches are not verified. Besides on the specific-designed approach to one dataset, a great deal of pre-trained models (which are proposed by a large number of data) are open to public. However, most of these pre-trained ML models are also concerning to one special field and their performance is not ideal when applied to datasets in other fields. Consequently, improved ML approaches that can be applied in various fields are required. To design ML approaches available in various fields, four datasets from three application fields are employed to verify approaches designed in this study. Inner speech (IS) dataset belongs to biology field. The frequency bands of IS dataset are very low (from 0.5 Hz to 100 Hz). In this dataset, various signs are acted by inner speech during the experiment. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals acquired during IS procedure and data are analyzed and classified. Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) bearing dataset is conducted by the mechanical school in CWRU. It is often used for bearing diagnosis approaches verification. Vibration signals are obtained when various faulty bearings are employed during the experiment. Vibration signals has a wide frequency bands from dozen Hz to thousand Hz. Another application field employed in this study is metalworking fluids (MWF). Acoustic Emission (AE) signals when a variety of MWF are applied during thread forming process are analyzed. Acoustic Emission signals are transient stress waves generated by the rapid release of energy from solid sources with frequency bands up to million Hz. According to the MWF types, two experiments are conducted and relevant AE signals are acquired. In the first experiment (dataset MWF19) only emulsion-based MWF are applied. Both emulsion-based and oil-based MWF are used in the second experiment (dataset MWF16). According to the different highlights and steps in machine learning, three categories with 5 sub approaches are designed in this study. Approach 1 contains few steps on data processing - data selection, segmentation, and classification. In this approach, signals are analyzed in time domain. Concentration of approach 1 is on classifier (convolution neural network (CNN)) structure and hyperparameters referring to training algorithms designing and tuning. Convolution neural network is designed according to samples length and functionality of each layer. Beside the CNN structure and hyperparameters in CNN, a new data processing method is designed for various phases differentiation in one measurement. As the boundaries among different phases are not clear in time domain in MWF datasets, continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is applied as a tool to find boundaries among different parts in one measurement. Furthermore, segment’s length is defined by rotating tool speed in the data segmentation step. Comparing with approach 1, more data processing methods are included in approach 2. Although the same data selection method is used in this approach as approach 1, besides data selection and segmentation in approach 1, data are transformed from time domain to time-frequency domain by Short-time Fourier Transform (STFT) and spectrograms are obtained. Segments and spectrograms are normalized before they are put into the classifier. Unlike measurement are segmented into fixed size segments according to tool speed, segment length is not identical in this approach, they are considered as one adjustable parameter. Besides, overlap among different class are not identical when samples numbers in each class are not the same. Additionally, parameters in data processing and hyperparameters in CNN are optimized together and automatically in one step. Furthermore, based on approach 2, a transfer learning (TL) approach (approach 2.0) is raised between MWF19 and MWF16. Parameters in data processing and hyperparameters in CNN trained from MWF19 are transformed to MWF16 in approach 2.0. Unlike one method or algorithm is applied in one step in approach 1 and 2, varied data processing methods and ML algorithms in each step are tried in approach 3. From this point of view, approach 3 is a integration of various approaches instead of single approach. Fixed data are used in approach 1 and approach 2, on the contrary, various parts data are tried in this approach. Besides, many similar but not identical function data processing methods and ML algorithms are employed in each step. Based on the destination difference, approach 3 is divided into supervised learning (approach 3.1) and unsupervised learning (approach 3.2). Although the process of approach 3.1 and 3.2 is the same, methods used in each step in approach 3.1 and 3.2 are varied. In approach 3.1, different training-test data split ways are tried. Besides, raw measurement, Savitzky–Golay (SG) filter, and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) are applied in data processing step. Linear, polynomial, and Gaussian kernels SVM are employed as classifier. In approach 3.2, STFT, CWT, and Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT) are used for signals transformation from time domain to time-frequency domain. Autoencoder as an alternative is employed as feature extraction method. K-mean and Gaussian mixture model (GMM) are used for features clustering. Approach 1, 2, and 3.2 are applied to CWRU and MWF datasets. As the IS dataset is very different from other datasets, so approach 3.1 is specific to it. Besides, considering the similarity between MWF19 and MWF16, the approach 2.0 is applied between them. For IS dataset, when training-test data are split in different ways, the results are significantly different. Best results of CWRU beaing dataset from supervised learning approach (approach 2) are F-score and accuracy is 100% for 29 bearing states, which denotes that all bearing states in CWRU bearing dataset can be classified perfectly. Best results of CWRU bearing dataset from unsupervised learning approach (approach 3.2) is all metrics are 1.0 in fault-free and faulty bearing distinction. For MWF19 dataset, the best classification results are from approach 2 - F-score and accuracy are 98.61 % and 98.58 %. Beside, reference and other fluid are totally distinguished by approach 3.2. For MWF16 dataset, the best classification results arrive to accuracy is 98.11 % from approach 1. Human factor-related accidents account for an increasing portion of the total accidents through the advancing level of system automation. Human reliability becomes the key issue in human-machine systems especially for safety-relevant tasks and operations. Various human reliability analysis (HRA) methods to systematically incorporate for the analysis, prediction, and prevention of human errors have been developed. Three fundamental gaps in the existing HRA methods can be stated: i) the lack of possibilities of gathering relevant site data in human-in-loop related industry, ii) the missing consideration of dynamic human reliability in situated context, and iii) the deep reliance on expert knowledge in evaluation process. Human operator's reliability in dynamic context is the focus of this thesis, therefore without loss of generality human drivers in dynamically changing situations are used as example case due to easy comprehensibility. With the development of human driver behavior monitoring in dynamic driving context, driving behavior data are generated and could be used for HRA. In this thesis, the modified CREAM (cognitive reliability and error analysis method) approach is applied for the evaluation of human driver performance. To reduce the reliance on expert knowledge, the performance levels in the modified CREAM approach are determined by automated data clustering. Three data clustering approaches including FN-DBSCAN (fuzzy neighborhood density-based spatial clustering of application with noise), CLUSTERDB*, and GMFPE (genetic-based membership function parameter estimation) are applied to driving data defining the membership function parameters which are corresponding to the performance levels in the modified CREAM approach. As result a new approach addressing dynamically aspects for human reliability is developed. The concept and the design of a new evaluation of human performance reliability score (HPRS) as a function of time is proposed for the quantitative and dynamic evaluation of individualized human performance. The HPRS results with different clustering approaches for the same time period are compared. To detect and evaluate the critical behaviors in situated driving, the quantification of human behavior levels needs to be proposed. Rasmussen's SRK (skill-rule-knowledge) model is well known in the field of human factors. Likewise, it is well known that skill-based behaviors have the highest human reliability, while knowledge-based behaviors are associated with the lowest reliability scores. Although numerous studies exist on human error probability (HEP), correspondingly typically attributed directly or indirectly to these three levels of behavior, a coherent, consistent representation, especially using data sources, has not been available. In this thesis, the quantification of human behavior levels with Rasmussen's SRK model is given based on three databases. Effects of time pressure and training on human reliability switching are also analyzed based on related publications. To determine the HEP of these three levels, three databases, technique for human error rate prediction (THERP), Savannah river site human reliability analysis (SRS-HRA) and nuclear action reliability assessment (NARA), from human reliability analysis (HRA) methods are used. The procedure contains identifying the tasks including the operator involved and the assumptions the analysts made and classifying the tasks into suitable cognitive behavior mode (CBM). In this case, the relationship between SRK levels and HEP is mapped. The effects of the two in automation context very relevant performance shaping factors (PSFs), time pressure and training/knowledge degradation, on human behavior levels switching are analyzed and the explanations of the SRK switching are presented. In this case, a more general structure is established to illustrate the dynamic behavior of levels switching with six directions under different conditions. From the results we conclude that skill, rule, and knowledge behavior levels are continuous in terms of HEP and therefore allow a new inside into this key aspect of human factor quantification. Based on this analysis the consequences of daily automation in the context of autonomous transport systems in combination with human qualification and reliability degrading is from this specific and in the current automation discussion very intensively discussed. The proposed approach will allow future automation systems including warning, assistance, or situated switch over to fully automated control to be established for the avoidance of human errors. Meanwhile, the presented discussion linking SRK levels and HEP gives a new perspective on the foreseeable consequences of further automation in application areas with increasing automation of everyday tasks (like using a highly automated vehicle)., Durch die fortschreitende Automatisierung in der Industrie sinkt die Zahl der Unfälle, jedoch steigt die Anteil der Unfälle, die auf den menschlichen Faktor zurückzuführen sind am Gesamtunfallgeschehen. Die Zuverlässigkeit des Menschen wird zur Schlüsselfrage in Mensch-Maschine-Systemen, insbesondere bei sicherheitsrelevanten Aufgaben und Operationen. Es wurden verschiedene Methoden der menschlichen Zuverlässigkeitsanalyse (Human Reliability Analysis, HRA) entwickelt, die systematisch zur Analyse, Vorhersage und Vorbeugung von menschlichen Fehlern eingesetzt werden können. Es lassen sich drei grundlegende Lücken in den bestehenden HRA-Methoden feststellen: i) das Fehlen von Möglichkeiten zur Erhebung relevanter Daten in der Human-in-Loop-Branche, ii) die fehlende Berücksichtigung der dynamischen menschlichen Zuverlässigkeit im situierten Kontext und iii) die starke Abhängigkeit von Expertenwissen im Bewertungsprozess. Die Zuverlässigkeit des menschlichen Fahrers im dynamischen Kontext steht im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit, daher werden ohne Einfluss auf die Verallgemeinerbarkeit menschliche Fahrer in sich dynamisch verändernden Situationen aufgrund der leichten Verständlichkeit als Beispiel verwendet. Mit der Entwicklung der Überwachung des menschlichen Fahrerverhaltens im dynamischen Fahrkontext werden Fahrverhaltensdaten generiert, die für die HRA genutzt werden können. In dieser Arbeit wird der modifizierte CREAM-Ansatz (Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method) zur Bewertung der menschlichen Fahrleistung angewendet. Um die Abhängigkeit von Expertenwissen zu verringern, werden die Leistungsstufen im modifizierten CREAM-Ansatz durch automatisches Clustering der Daten bestimmt. Drei Daten-Clustering-Ansätze, darunter FN-DBSCAN (Fuzzy neighborhood density-based spatial clustering of application with noise), CLUSTERDB* und GMFPE (genetic-based membership function parameter estimation), werden auf Fahrdaten angewandt, um die Parameter der Zugehörigkeitsfunktionen zu definieren, die den Leistungsstufen im modifizierten CREAM-Ansatz entsprechen. Das SRK-Modell (Skill-Rule-Knowledge) von Rasmussen ist im Bereich der menschlichen Faktoren sehr bekannt. Ebenso ist bekannt, dass auf Fähigkeiten basierende Verhaltensweisen die höchste menschliche Zuverlässigkeit aufweisen, während wissensbasierte Verhaltensweisen mit den niedrigsten Zuverlässigkeitswerten verbunden sind. Zwar gibt es zahlreiche Studien zur menschlichen Fehlerwahrscheinlichkeit (HEP), die in der Regel direkt oder indirekt auf diese drei Verhaltensebenen zurückgeführt werden, aber eine kohärente, konsistente Darstellung, insbesondere unter Verwendung von Datenquellen, ist bisher nicht verfügbar. In dieser Arbeit wird die Quantifizierung menschlicher Verhaltensebenen mit dem SRK-Modell von Rasmussen anhand von drei Datenbanken vorgenommen. Die Auswirkungen von Zeitdruck und Training auf die menschliche Zuverlässigkeitsvermittlung werden ebenfalls auf der Grundlage einschlägiger Veröffentlichungen analysiert. Zur Bestimmung des HEP dieser drei Ebenen werden drei Datenbanken, die Technik zur Vorhersage der menschlichen Fehlerrate (THERP), die Savannah River Site Human Reliability Analysis (SRS-HRA) und die Nuclear Action Reliability Assessment (NARA), aus den Methoden der Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) verwendet. In diesem Fall wird die Beziehung zwischen SRK-Niveau und menschlicher Fehlerwahrscheinlichkeit (HEP) abgebildet. Die Auswirkungen der beiden im Automatisierungskontext sehr relevanten Performance Shaping Factors (PSFs), Zeitdruck und Trainings-/Wissensabbau, auf das menschliche Verhalten beim Schalten werden analysiert und die Erklärungen für das SRK-Schalten vorgestellt. In diesem Fall wird eine allgemeinere Struktur erstellt, um das dynamische Verhalten von Ebenen zu veranschaulichen, die unter verschiedenen Bedingungen in sechs Richtungen schalten. Aus den Ergebnissen schließen wir, dass die Ebenen der Fähigkeiten, Regeln und des Wissensverhaltens in Bezug auf HEP kontinuierlich sind und daher einen neuen Einblick in diesen Schlüsselaspekt der Quantifizierung menschlicher Faktoren ermöglichen. Basierend auf dieser Analyse werden die Folgen der Alltagsautomatisierung im Kontext autonomer Verkehrssysteme in Kombination mit menschlicher Qualifikation und Zuverlässigkeitsverschlechterung aus dieser spezifischen und in der aktuellen Automatisierungsdiskussion sehr intensiv diskutiert. Der vorgeschlagene Ansatz wird es ermöglichen, künftige Automatisierungssysteme mit Warnung, Unterstützung oder Umschaltung auf vollautomatische Steuerung zu etablieren, um menschliche Fehler zu vermeiden. Die vorgestellte Diskussion über die Verknüpfung von SRK-Ebenen und HEP bietet eine neue Perspektive auf die absehbaren Folgen einer weiteren Automatisierung in Anwendungsbereichen mit zunehmender Automatisierung alltäglicher Aufgaben (z. B. bei der Nutzung eines hochautomatisierten Fahrzeugs).

Die vorliegende Arbeit umfasst die Entwicklung und Anwendung eines Atmosphärendruck-Partikelmassenspektrometers (AD-PMS) für die ortsaufgelöste Charakterisierung von Partikelwachstumsprozessen innerhalb einer Atmosphärendruck-Sprayflamme. Dafür wurde ein bestehendes zweistufiges Niederdruck-Partikelmassenspektrometer (ND-PMS) durch eine zusätzlich Unterdruckkammer erweitert. Dadurch entstand eine kaskadenförmige Anreihung von drei eigenständig versorgten Unterdruckkammern, welche auch bei Atmosphärendruck betrieben werden können, und eine Reduzierung des Kammerdruckes bis zu einem Bereich von 1×10 –6 mbar ermöglicht. Des Weiteren wurde im Rahmen dieser Arbeit eine voll funktionsfähige Sprayflammensyntheseanlage aufgebaut und gemeinsam mit dem AD-PMS für die ortsaufgelöste Charakterisierung in vertikaler und radialer Richtung mit Lineareinheiten versehen. Als Verbindungselement zwischen der Syntheseanlage und dem AD-PMS wurde eine Probenahmesonde mit integrierter Verdünnung verwendet, die mit Hilfe einer validierten Partikelquelle und fluiddynamischen Strömungssimulationen im Detail charakterisiert wurde. Fluiddynamische Strömungssimulationen konnten für das AD-PMS zeigen, dass die Verwendung einer Probenahmesonde die Bildung eines Partikelfreistrahles am Ende einer Kapillar erschweren kann. Dieser Einfluss wurde mithilfe eines Schlierenaufbaus untersucht und in Abhängigkeit der Kapillarlänge genauer charakterisiert. Detaillierte Betrachtungen der PMS-Geometrien führten zu einer Abschätzung von geeigneten Abständen innerhalb des AD-PMS. Des Weiteren konnte mithilfe eines simulierten PMS-Signals die mittlere Geschwindigkeit innerhalb des Partikelfreistrahles abgeschätzt werden. Nach erfolgreicher Inbetriebnahme aller Komponenten wurde das Gesamtsystem mit Hilfe von zwei etablierten Charakterisierungsmethoden an einer laminaren nicht vorgemischten Flamme und an einer turbulenten Sprayflamme mit Erfolg auf Funktion überprüft. Als Anwendungsbeispiele wurde die Untersuchung des Wachstums von Eisenoxid-Nanopartikeln in einem Sprayflammenreaktor gezeigt. Hierfür wurden Sprayflammensynthesen mit Eisen(III)nitrat-Nonahydrat (Fe(NO 3 ) 3 ∙ 9 H 2 O) als Präkursor betrieben. Dabei wurden die Synthesen in den Lösungszusammensetzungen und in den molaren Präkursorkonzentrationen variiert und das Partikelwachstum wurde mit Hilfe des AD-PMS ortsaufgelöst in vertikaler und horizontaler Richtung charakterisiert. Hierbei konnte erfolgreich gezeigt werden, dass die Lösungsmittelzusammensetzung einen deutlichen Einfluss auf das Partikelwachstum innerhalb der verwendeten Sprayflamme haben kann. Die Einschneckenextrusion ist eines der wichtigsten Verarbeitungsverfahren in der Kunststoffindustrie. Die Forderungen von Maschinenbetreibern und -herstellern nach effizienten Anlagen zur Herstellung von hochwertigen Produkten sind entsprechend stark. Das Potenzial zur Leistungssteigerung konventioneller Maschinen ist nahezu ausgereizt, wohingegen das Potenzial von sogenannten frei rotierenden Systemen bisher kaum untersucht wurde. Bei frei rotierenden Systemen handelt es sich um eine nicht durch einen Motor aktiv angetriebene Komponente im System, deren Rotation sich aufgrund von Schleppströmungen einstellt. Solche Systeme können sowohl in der Plastifizierzone als auch in der Meteringszone eingesetzt werden. Während es für die Plastifizierzone bisher nur frei rotierende Konzepte gibt, die noch nicht in der Industrie etabliert sind, werden in der Meteringszone bereits frei rotierende Mischelemente eingesetzt. Diese Art von Mischelementen ist für ihre exzellente Mischwirkung bekannt. Der Twente-Mixing-Ring ist hier ein bekanntes Beispiel. Trotz vielversprechender Ergebnisse aus empirischen Versuchsreihen und Praxiserfahrungen sind frei rotierende Systeme in der Vergangenheit nicht konsequent untersucht und die Entwicklung sowie Auslegung innovativer Konstruktionen nicht vorangetrieben worden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden verschiedene frei rotierende Systeme sowohl experimentell als auch CFD-gestützt untersucht, um das Verständnis über diese Systeme auszubauen und Einflussfaktoren auf das Betriebsverhalten zu identifizieren. Neben den Standardprozessparametern, die maschinenseitig komfortabel ausgelesen werden können, wurden auch die Hülsendrehzahl und die Extrudatqualität ermittelt. Als frei rotierende Systeme wurden einerseits ein alternatives Plastifizierkonzept, welches in der Dissertation von Karrenberg vorgestellt wurde, und andererseits verschiedene frei rotierende Mischelemente verwendet [Ka16]. Bei dem untersuchten alternativen Plastifizierkonzept handelte es sich um den sogenannten High-Speed-S-Truder, der mittels einer frei rotierenden Schneckenhülse eine Feststoff-Schmelze-Trennung realisiert, um die Effizienz des Aufschmelzprozesses zu erhöhen. Für dieses Konzept wurden sowohl die noch unbekannte thermische und stoffliche Extrudathomogenität bestimmt als auch verschiedene konstruktive Änderungen an der bisher verwendeten Referenz-Schneckenhülse vorgenommen. Durch die konstruktiven Modifikationen wurde sich eine weitere Leistungssteigerung versprochen. Die Einbringung axialer Nuten auf der Innenfläche der Schneckenhülse brachte hierbei den gewünschten Erfolg. Die Beurteilung der Extrudatqualität erfolgte mittels des Segregationsgrades und mittels Thermographieaufnahmen. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Extrudatqualität mit steigenden Schneckendrehzahlen abnimmt, aber für einen großen Drehzahlbereich gute Ergebnisse aufweist. Die Untersuchung frei rotierender Mischelemente wurde insgesamt mit fünf verschiedenen Mischelementen durchgeführt. Ein kalottenförmiger Dynamic-Mixing-Ring (modifizierter Twente-Mixing-Ring) und vier wabenförmige Dynamic-Mixing-Rings wurden herangezogen, sodass Rückschlüsse über den Einfluss der Konstruktion auf das Betriebsverhalten gezogen werden konnten. Als Versuchsmaterialien wurden zwei PE-HD, ein PE-LD und ein PP betrachtet, um den Einfluss der Viskosität des Materials auf das Betriebsverhalten ermitteln zu können. Die Erfassung der Hülsendrehzahl wurde über die Auswertung von Drucksignalen vollzogen. Eine Methodik zur automatisierten Erfassung der Hülsendrehzahl mittels Fast-Fourier-Transformation wurde erprobt und der manuellen Auswertung gegenübergestellt. Auf Basis der Versuchsergebnisse wurde das Material als maßgeblicher Einflussfaktor auf die Höhe der Mischhülsendrehzahl identifiziert. Es wurden verschiedene Hypothesen diskutiert, welche Materialeigenschaften und welche Strömungsverhältnisse zur einer erhöhten bzw. reduzierten Mischhülsendrehzahl führen. Es konnte jedoch kein eindeutiger Zusammenhang zwischen Materialviskosität bzw. den viskoelastischen Materialeigenschaften und der Höhe der Hülsendrehzahl ermittelt werden. Ein Einfluss der Konstruktion auf das Betriebsverhalten konnte ebenfalls festgestellt werden. Insbesondere eine Erhöhung des freien Volumens reduziert den Druckbedarf bei gleichzeitig geringerer Hülsendrehzahl und gleichbleibender Extrudatqualität. Die Erfassung der stofflichen und thermischen Extrudatqualität ist für eines der verwendeten PE-HD und das verwendete PE-LD zuverlässig möglich. Für das zweite PE-HD und das PP erwies sich die Generierung und Aufbereitung der Ergebnisse zur Bewertung der Extrudatqualität aufgrund der herausfordernden Materialeigenschaften als schwierig und nicht für alle Betriebspunkte als zuverlässig. Im Rahmen einer CFD-gestützten Strömungsanalyse wurden die experimentellen den virtuellen Ergebnissen gegenübergestellt. Insbesondere der berechnete Einlassdruck lag niedriger als im Experiment. Die Ursache für diese Abweichung konnte u. a. auf die Position des Drucksensors im System zurückgeführt werden. Weiterhin wurde mittels CFD-Strömungsanalyse eine Methodik zur Prognose der Hülsendrehzahl vorgestellt und untersucht. Ein Vergleich zwischen experimentell gemessenen und prognostizierten Hülsendrehzahlen zeigte einen erheblichen Unterschied. Als Ursache für diesen Unterschied werden viskoelastische Materialeigenschaften vermutet, welche in der durchgeführten Strömungsanalyse nicht berücksichtigt wurden. Um die Auslegung von Mischelementen und insbesondere frei rotierender Mischelemente in Zukunft zu vereinfachen, wurde ein Algorithmus zur automatisierten Auslegung und Optimierung vorgestellt und anhand eines neuartigen, frei rotierenden Mischhülsenkonzeptes untersucht. Hierbei wurde das Strömungsfeld einer jeden Geometrievariante durch einen genetischen Optimierer mittels neun verschiedener Qualitätskriterien hinsichtlich seiner Eignung zur Realisierung der distributiven und dispersiven Mischwirkung beurteilt. Darüber hinaus wurde die verfahrenstechnische Leistungsfähigkeit (Performance) beurteilt, sodass mittels eines genetischen Algorithmus automatisiert eine optimierte Variante erzeugt wurde. The demands of machine operators and manufacturers for efficient systems to manufacture high-quality products are correspondingly strong. The potential for increasing the performance of conventional machines is almost exhausted, whereas the potential of so-called free-rotating systems has hardly been investigated. Free-rotating systems involve a component in the system that is not actively driven by a motor and whose rotation occurs as a result of drag flows. Such systems can be used both in the plasticizing zone and in the metering zone. While only freely rotating concepts exist for the plasticizing zone, which are not yet established in the industry, freely rotating mixing elements are already used in the metering zone. This type of mixing element is known for its excellent mixing action. The Twente mixing ring is a well-known example here. Despite promising results from empirical test series and practical experience, free-rotating systems have not been consistently investigated in the past and the development and design of innovative constructions has not been advanced. In this work, various free-rotating systems were investigated both experimentally and CFD-based to expand the understanding of these systems and to identify factors influencing the operating behavior. In addition to the standard process parameters, which can be conveniently read out on the machine side, the sleeve speed and the extrudate quality were determined. As free-rotating systems, an alternative plasticizing concept presented in Karrenberg's dissertation and various free-rotating mixing were used. The alternative plasticizing concept investigated was the so-called high-speed S-Truder, which realizes a solid-melt separation by means of a free-rotating screw sleeve to increase the efficiency of the melting process. For this concept, both the still unknown thermal and material extrudate homogeneity were determined and various design modifications were made to the previously used reference screw sleeve. The design modifications were expected to result in a further increase in performance. The insertion of axial grooves on the inner surface of the screw sleeve brought the desired success. The extrudate quality was assessed by means of the degree of segregation and thermographic images. It was shown that the extrudate quality decreases with increasing screw speeds, but exhibits good results for a wide speed range. The investigation of free-rotating mixing elements was carried out with a total of five different mixing elements. One spherical-shaped dynamic mixing ring (modified twentieth mixing ring) and four honeycomb-shaped dynamic mixing rings were used so that conclusions could be drawn about the influence of the design on the operating behavior. Two PE-HD, one PE-LD and one PP were considered as test materials to be able to determine the influence of the material on the operating behavior. The sleeve speed was recorded by evaluating pressure signals. A methodology for automated acquisition of the sleeve speed by means of Fast Fourier Transformation was tested and compared with manual evaluation. Based on the test results, the material was identified as a significant influencing factor on the level of the mixing sleeve speed. Various hypotheses were discussed as to which material properties and which flow conditions lead to an increased or reduced mixing sleeve speed. However, no clear correlation between material viscosity or viscoelastic material properties and the level of sleeve speed could be determined. An influence of the design on the operating behavior was also found. In particular, an increase in the free volume reduces the pressure requirement while at the same time reducing the sleeve speed and maintaining the extrudate quality. The material and thermal extrudate quality can be reliably determined for one of the PE-HD and the PE-LD used. For the second PE-HD and the PP, the generation and processing of the results for the evaluation of the extrudate quality proved to be difficult due to the challenging material properties and not reliable for all operating points. Within the framework of a CFD-based flow analysis, the experimental and virtual results were compared. In particular, the calculated inlet pressure was lower than in the experiment. The cause of this deviation could be traced back to the position of the pressure sensor in the system. Furthermore, a methodology for predicting the sleeve speed was presented and investigated by means of CFD flow analysis. A comparison between experimentally measured and predicted sleeve speeds showed a significant difference. The cause of this difference is assumed to be viscoelastic material properties, which were not taken into account in the flow analysis carried out. In order to simplify the design of mixing elements and in particular freely rotating mixing elements in the future, an algorithm for automated design and optimization was presented. The algorithm was investigated on the basis of a novel, freely rotating mixing sleeve concept. Here, the flow field of each geometry variant was evaluated by means of nine different quality criteria with regard to its suitability for realizing the distributive and dispersive mixing effect. In addition, the process engineering performance was assessed so that an optimized variant was automatically generated by means of a genetic algorithm. It was shown that an arbitrarily reference geometry could be optimized using the presented algorithm under the given boundary conditions.

Considering the current global scenario, battery electric vehicles will play a pivotal role in personal mobility in the future; thus, necessitating an increase in charging infrastructure. According to several studies, greater diffusion of these vehicles can be expected to have an impact on electricity demand. Furthermore, as electricity generation is becoming increasingly volatile, increasing the flexibility of electricity demand is imperative. The current electric vehicle charging models aim to coordinate vehicle charging in a predefined charging network to optimize an objective, such as meeting the demands of all vehicles or cost minimization (electric vehicle charge scheduling problem). Another stream of literature aims to optimize the placement of charging stations and the design of the charging infrastructure. In models supporting these decisions, the charging demand is predefined, and differences in demand over time are not explicitly considered. In this thesis, a decision support model is developed to determine the relationships between different charging network layouts, and to optimize vehicle charging in current and future energy system configurations. To achieve this, a mixed integer linear programming model, which simultaneously optimizes the layout of the charging network and vehicle charging while considering factors related to mobility and the electricity system, was developed. Exact and heuristic solution approaches are presented to solve the model that combines the charging station placement problem and electric vehicle charge scheduling. Furthermore, the geographically and temporally resolved mobility data required for the real-world application of the model is synthetically generated using an activity database and an open-source geographic information system, while factors related to the electricity system are derived from existing energy scenarios. To evaluate how the developed model can support real-world decision-making, it was applied to a case study of charging station placement and coordination of charging activities in Essen. The results were analyzed based on factors such as the geographical and temporal distribution of the charging activities or the economic and ecological effects of the optimized charging network and coordinated vehicle charging. In the case study, the results of a combined optimization of charging station placement and vehicle charging indicate that the joint consideration of both decision problems can influence the charging pattern, yielding different and in some parts more exact results than the previously considered approaches. The model can be used to analyze the impact of changes in the electricity system configurations, changes in mobility behavior, and vehicle charging technology on the energy system, and it can be used to support decisions of charging infrastructure planners, network operators, or policymakers., Aktuellen Prognosen zufolge werden batterieelektrische Fahrzeuge in Zukunft eine entscheidende Rolle im Individualverkehr spielen, was einen Ausbau der Ladeinfrastruktur erfordert. Die Koordination des Ladens von Elektrofahrzeugen erfolgt in einem vordefinierten Ladenetz, um ein Ziel, z. B. die Minimierung der Ladekosten oder Maximierung des verwendeten Ladestroms aus erneuerbaren Quellen, zu optimieren. Ladeinfrastrukturplanungsmodelle hingegen gehen von einem vordefinierten Ladebedarf aus und unterscheiden in der Regel nicht, wie die Nachfrage über die Zeit variieren kann, berücksichtigen allerdings die geografische Verteilung des Ladebedarfs. In dieser Arbeit wird ein Optimierungsmodell entwickelt, um beide Entscheidungen simultan zu berücksichtigen. Dieses gemischt-ganzzahlige lineare Optimierungsmodell erlaubt gleichzeitig die Auslegung des Ladenetzes und die Optimierung des Ladens von Fahrzeugen unter Berücksichtigung, der variierenden Standorte von Elektrofahrzeugen und volatilen Stromerzeugung. Zur Lösung dieser miteinander verknüpften Planungsaufgaben des entwickelten Modells werden exakte und heuristische Lösungsansätze entwickelt und vorgestellt. Geographisch und zeitlich aufgelöste Mobilitätsdaten, die für die reale Anwendung des Modells erforderlich sind, werden synthetisch aus einer Aktivitätsdatenbank und einem Open-Source-Geoinformationssystem generiert, während die Kenngrößen, die mit dem Stromsystem zusammenhängen, aus bestehenden Energieszenarien abgeleitet werden. Zur Evaluation wird das entwickelte Modell in einer Fallstudie für die Platzierung von Ladestationen und die Koordination von Ladeaktivitäten in der Stadt Essen angewendet. Die Modellergebnisse werden nach Faktoren wie der räumlichen und zeitlichen Verteilung der Ladeaktivitäten oder den ökonomischen und ökologischen Effekten des optimierten Ladenetzes und der koordinierten Ladung der Fahrzeuge analysiert. Ergebnisse einer kombinierten Optimierung der Platzierung von Ladestationen und der Fahrzeugladung zeigen, dass die gemeinsame Betrachtung beider Entscheidungsprobleme zu Ergebnissen führen kann, die sich von denen bisheriger Ansätze unterscheidet. Das entwickelte Modell und die entwickelten Lösungsansätze ermöglichen es, die Auswirkungen von Änderungen der Energiesystemkonfiguration, des Mobilitätsverhaltens und der Ladetechnologie auf das Energiesystem zu analysieren. In this work, we performed molecular dynamics simulations to study the dynamics of a shock wave-induced single nanobubble collapsing near one flexible and two rigid boundaries. The flexible boundary consisted of polyethylene, and the rigid boundaries were made of aluminum and iron. The shock waves impinging on the nanobubble inside a molecular system were generated using a momentum mirror approach. For two relative wall distances, we studied the dynamics of the shock-induced single nanobubble and its collapse near the flexible and the rigid boundaries. The atomic velocity contours surrounding the single nanobubble and the collapse-induced damage on the boundaries were analyzed. We obtained this collapse-induced damage from ten collapsing nanobubbles. Results showed that the relative wall distance affected the single nanobubble’s collapse dynamics near the boundaries. A generated nanojet was directed on the surfaces during the collapse process. From the collapse-induced damage point of view, the depth damage of the polyethylene, iron, and aluminum boundaries for the relative wall distance of (Formula presented.) = 1.3 were 6.0, 0.47 and 0.63 nm, respectively. Small and medium foundry industries strive to produce defect free parts and are planning to use the technological advancement to incorporate automation in their production processes. These targets require online monitoring and control of a foundry process. In case of an expected defect, the goal is to know about it in advance. If a monitoring system is in place and informs about the problem before occurring, corrective measures can be taken in time to prevent producing defected parts. This results in high production quality, continuous running of these processes, and minimization of production time and scrap rate. One of the possible ways is to capture the process related data and implicitly learn the unknown hidden model using machine learning methods. Technological advancement has enabled to produce the vast amount of data related to the processes and many promising machine learning methods are available. Utilizing these resources can help learn a data-driven model of the target process. This model can be used for monitoring and control of the target process. Hence in the current work, a novel framework based on data-driven machine learning model has been introduced and is applied on the different datasets of the foundry industry. The proposed framework is composed of three stages. In the first stage, a good data-driven machine learning model is obtained which can be used to monitor the target process by predicting the label of the current inputs. In the second stage, a knowledge-base is created using the model learnt to control running process. In the third stage, the learnt model is used to predict the part quality. If the quality meets the requirements, the production process continues and in case the prediction shows faulty part, then changes are proposed using the knowledge-base. The promising verification results obtained for the foundry industry datasets confirm that the proposed unified framework can enable the production processes to run more efficiently by reducing the manufacturing defects and down time. Der technologische Fortschritt hat es ermöglicht, große Mengen an prozessbezogenen Daten zu erzeugen, und es stehen viele vielversprechende Methoden des maschinellen Lernens zur Verfügung. Die Nutzung dieser Ressourcen kann helfen, ein datengesteuertes Modell des Zielprozesses zu erlernen. Dieses Modell kann für die Überwachung und Steuerung des Zielprozesses verwendet werden. Daher wurde in der vorliegenden Arbeit ein neuartiges Framework auf der Grundlage eines datengesteuerten maschinellen Lernmodells eingeführt und auf verschiedene Datensätze der Gießereiindustrie angewandt. Das vorgeschlagene Framework besteht aus drei Stufen. In der ersten Phase wird ein datengesteuertes maschinelles Lernmodell erlernt, das zur Überwachung des Zielprozesses durch Vorhersage der abhängigen Variablen anhand der aktuellen Eingaben verwendet werden kann. In der zweiten Phase wird mit Hilfe des erlernten Modells eine Wissensdatenbank zur Steuerung des laufenden Prozesses erstellt. In der dritten Stufe wird das gelernte Modell zur Vorhersage der Teilequalität verwendet. Wenn die Qualität den Anforderungen entspricht, wird der Produktionsprozess fortgesetzt, und wenn die Vorhersage ein fehlerhaftes Teil ergibt, werden anhand der Wissensdatenbank Änderungen vorgeschlagen. Die vielversprechenden Verifizierungsergebnisse, die anhand von Datensätzen aus der Gießereiindustrie erzielt wurden, bestätigen, dass das vorgeschlagene einheitliche Framework einen effizienteren Ablauf der Produktionsprozesse ermöglichen kann, indem er die Herstellungsfehler und Ausfallzeiten reduziert. Dies wird dadurch erreicht, dass ein potenzielles Problem bereits im Vorfeld erkannt und eine kosteneffiziente Lösung vorgeschlagen wird.

Water-slide manufacturers are constantly searching for innovative designs that maximize the rider’s fun while complying with safety requirements. However, the current state-of-the-art does not offer any simulation tool capable of aiding the design phase before manufacture in an affordable computational time. In this paper, we present a novel approach using smooth surface models together with Saint Venant’s filament theory to predict the water channel and, by this, a realistic estimation of passenger/water-slide interaction. The paper covers the theory and the experimental validation for the case of circular slide cross-sections. It is shown that the predicted water channel follows very well the measurement even without the influence of Saint Venant’s water-height terms and of the elliptical correction of the water cross-section for slanted water streamlines with respect to the centerline of the circular tube. Thus, for this kind of applications, a simple Bernoulli streamline model with proper water-slide friction parameters is shown to be sufficient. On the other hand, parameter identification of fluid-surface friction shows that three terms must be considered: a static one, a curvature-dependent correction, and a third correction factor for changes from low to large curvature (splashing effect). The results are also compared with fluid simulations using OpenFOAM. It is shown that the results of the simple model are not less accurate than the fluid-dynamics model, while needing only 1/100.000 of the computational time. The paper shows also the passenger/slide interaction by a multibody model including contact and passenger/fluid interactions. It is shown that the interaction between the passenger and water is significant for correct reproduction of real motion, showing that the water channel is relevant for computer-based water-slide layouts. As the water-channel parameters can be sufficiently modeled by Bernoulli’s streamline theory, the approach is independent of the slide cross-section and thus extendable to general cases. Also, as the computations run at 7/10 of real time, they can be used for online optimizations and passenger-specific actions on site.

Als Naturprodukt mit begrenzten Ressourcen ist Sand für diverse Industriezweige von existenzieller Bedeutung. Insbesondere die Gießereitechnik benötigt weltweit für Sandformen sowie –kerne beträchtliche Mengen. Dabei ist Sand nicht gleich Sand, sodass beispielsweise Wüstensande nicht für solche Gussformen bzw. - kerne eingesetzt werden kann, da die Oberfläche der Körner für die meisten Anwendungen zu glatt ist. Je nach Gussprozess werden die hochwertigen Quarzsande daher bereits im Kreislauf gefahren und wiederverwendet. Allerdings wird immer noch, insbesondere bei anorganisch gebundenem Formstoff häufig nicht rezykliert, sondern unter umweltrelevanten Auflagen dem Abfallsystem zugeführt. Bestehende dieser Regenerationsverfahren stoßen analytisch häufig an ihre Optimierungsgrenzen, da die Prozesse nicht transparent genug sind, um entsprechende Parameter zur Optimierung analytisch zu beschreiben. Somit sind Inlineanalysen der Formstoffqualität während des Prozesses unmöglich. Die bestehende Herausforderung ist, dass die Formstoffqualität und der Regenerationsfortschritt nicht während des betrachteten Prozesses bestimmt werden können, um im Laufe des Regenerationsprozesses entsprechende Optimierungen oder Prozessanpassungen durchzuführen. Der aktuelle Aufbereitungszustand ist während der Regeneration prozessbedingt nicht direkt messbar. Die Formstoffqualität soll zukünftig während des Prozesses in Echtzeit bestimmbar sein, um so aktiv den Aufbereitungszustand mit entsprechenden Parametereinstellungen zu steuern. Die quantitative Formstoffbestimmung im laufenden Prozess bietet die Möglichkeit, umweltrelevante Ziele, wie einen verringerten Energiebedarf, Reduzierung des CO2-Ausstoßes oder Ressourcenschonung durch eine effizientere Steuerung zu berücksichtigen. Darüber hinaus kann eine optimierte Anlagensteuerung zu verbesserten Prozessfahrweisen hinsichtlich Zeit-, Kosten- sowie Energieeffizienz führen. Im Rahmen dieser Forschungsarbeit wird eine Methodik mit Hilfe von Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) zur maschinellen Verarbeitung von Ton- und Bilddaten vorgestellt, die die nicht messbaren Veränderungen des Formstoffes im laufenden Prozess über die Prozessakustik in Echtzeit abbilden und bewerten soll. Unter der Annahme, dass die Veränderungen des Formstoffes während des Prozesses akustisch erfassbar sind, wird jede Regeneration über ein Kondensatormikrophon aufgenommen. Die Veränderungen, die während des Prozesses auftreten, wurden mit den im Folgenden genannten Methoden extrahiert und erlernt. Die akustische Signalverarbeitung (Audio Signal Processing) bietet eine Vielzahl an Analysemethoden zur Merkmalsextraktion (Feature extraction). Das Spektrogramm steht dabei im Vordergrund der Analysen, da Spektrogramme den Zeit-Frequenz-Inhalt eines Signals mithilfe der Short-Time-Fourier-Transformation (STFT) visualisieren. Die aufgenommenen Audiodaten werden damit zu Bilddaten transformiert und anschließend mit CNNs, im Sinne der Bilderkennung, analysiert. CNNs bilden einen Grundstein der Methoden des sogenannten Deep Learnings (DL), ein Teilgebiet des maschinellen Lernens, und werden bereits erfolgreich in der Bilderkennung eingesetzt. Damit ergibt sich eine Kombination aus Methoden der Signalverarbeitung und maschinellen Lernverfahren zur Bildverarbeitung, um Qualitätsveränderungen des regenerierten Sandes zu erkennen und zu klassifizieren., As a natural product with limited resources, sand is of existential importance for various branches of industry. Foundry technology in particular requires considerable quantities for sand moulds and cores worldwide. However, not all sand is the same. Desert sand, for example, cannot be used for such moulds or cores, as the surface of the grains is too smooth for most applications. Depending on the casting process, the high-quality silica sands are therefore already recycled and thus reused. However, especially in the case of inorganically bonded moulding sand, it is still frequently not recycled but added to the waste system under environmentally relevant conditions. Existing regeneration processes often reach their analytical optimisation limits because the processes are not transparent enough to render inline analyses of the moulding sand possible. The challenge at hand is that the moulding material quality and the regeneration progress cannot be determined in real time during the process under consideration, so that appropriate optimisations or process adjustments can be carried out during the regeneration process. The running process and the associated current preparation status cannot be measured directly. In the future, it should be possible to determine the moulding sand quality in real time during the process in order to actively control the preparation status directly with corresponding parameter settings. The feasibility of quantitative moulding sand determination during the running process offers the possibility to take into account environmentally relevant goals, such as reduced energy consumption, reduction of CO2 emissions or resource conservation through more efficient control. Optimised plant control in terms of time, cost and energy efficiency can also be derived from this. This research presents a methodology using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) for machine processing of sound and image data to map and evaluate the non-measurable changes of the moulding material in the running process via the process acoustics in real time. Assuming that the regeneration of the moulding material during the process are acoustically detectable, each process is recorded via a condenser microphone. Changes that occur during the process are extracted and learned using the methods mentioned below. Audio signal processing offers a variety of analysis methods for feature extraction. The spectrogram is at the forefront of the analyses, because spectrograms visualise the time-frequency content of a signal with the help of the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT). The recorded audio data is thus transformed into image data and then analysed with CNNs, in the sense of image recognition. CNNs form a basic element of the methods of so-called deep learning (DL), a subfield of machine learning, and are already being used successfully in image recognition. This results in a combination of signal processing methods and machine learning methods for image processing to detect and classify process changes.

Das Gefrieren von Wasser innerhalb poröser Medien kann infolge der Eisbildung eine Änderung der Materialstruktur hervorrufen. Da bei PEMBZ nach dem Abschalten eine gewisse Restwassermenge insbesondere innerhalb der porösen MEA-Komponenten zurückbleibt, erfüllen diese die Voraussetzungen für eine mögliche Schädigung im Falle einer Frostbelastung. Dadurch kann es zu einer Beschleunigung der naturgemäßen Degradation der betroffenen Einzelmaterialien kommen und somit die Leistungsfähigkeit und Lebensdauer der Brennstoffzelle reduziert werden. Aus den Vorgaben des US-amerikanischen Energieministeriums lässt sich ableiten, dass Brennstoffzellen und ihre Materialien ein wiederholtes Absenken auf Minustemperaturen von bis zu -40°C unbeschadet und ohne einen signifikanten Leistungsabfall überstehen sollten. Derzeit existiert jedoch kein allgemein anerkanntes Prüfverfahren, das eine Beurteilung der Frostbeständigkeit von PEMBZ bzw. ihrer Einzelkomponenten erlaubt. Aus diesem Grund finden sich in der Literatur zahlreiche Frostprüfungen mit zum Teil stark voneinander abweichenden Randbedingungen, was sich wiederum in einer großen Varianz der Untersuchungsergebnisse widerspiegelt und die Ableitung der zugrunde liegenden Schadensmechanismen erschwert. Somit ist auf diesem Gebiet noch weiterer Forschungsbedarf gegeben. Unter Berücksichtigung des aktuellen Theorie- und Forschungsstandes wurden in dieser Arbeit die Einflüsse einer zyklischen Frost-Tau-Wechselbelastung auf die Leistungsfähigkeit und Degradation von Membran-Elektroden-Einheiten und deren Einzelkomponenten untersucht. Das Ziel hierbei war ein besseres Verständnis über die frostinduzierten Schadensmechanismen und -phänomene zu gewinnen. Verwendet wurden dabei MEAMaterialien und Materialsysteme neuerer sowie älterer Generation. Diese wurden zunächst in ZBT-Standardstacks (1; 5 Zellen) verbaut und nach erfolgter Inbetriebnahme unter gleichen Randbedingungen einer wiederholen Frostbelastung in der Klimakammer unterzogen. Zur Beschleunigung der schädigenden Wirkung der frostinduzierten Einflüsse wurden die Parameter der Klimakammer so gewählt, dass ein Worst-Case-Szenario dargestellt werden konnte. Dabei sind in erster Linie eine Minimaltemperatur von -40°C und eine langsame Abkühl-/Auftaurate von 10 K/h zu nennen. Die letztere begünstigt die Wassertransporte, während der FTW-Belastung wodurch größere Wasseransammlungen entstehen und somit infolge der Eisbildung stärkere Schädigung der MEA-Materialien zu erwarten ist. Zusätzlich, zur Sicherstellung einer maximalen Restwassermenge nach dem Abschalten der Stacks, wurde bewusst auf ein Spülen der Zellen mit trockenem Gas verzichtet, wodurch sich darin eine große Menge an Produktwasser gemäß der letzten Betriebstemperatur befindet. Die Bewertung der Auswirkung der FTW Belastung erfolgte mittels in situ Analyse der Stacks (UI-Kennlinie, CV, EIS) und der ex situ Analyse der MEAMaterialien (optisch, Hg-Porosimetrie). Um die frostinduzierten Schäden von den herstellungs- und betriebsbedingten Defekten trennen zu können, wurden neben der Untersuchung der Einzelmaterialien im Ausgangszustand auch die MEA-Komponenten aus den identisch aufgebauten und betriebenen, jedoch unbefrosteten Referenzstacks analysiert und bewertet. Im Jahr 2017 wurden 3,5 % (EU: 3,3 %) der weltweit Rohstahlgesamtproduktion von rd. 1691 Mt im Blockgussverfahren vergossen. In Deutschland kommt dem Blockguss mit 4,6 % (entspricht 2000 kt) an der Gesamtrohstahlproduktion eine besondere Bedeutung zu (1). Ein wirtschaftlicher Betrieb unter der im europäischen Raum zu berücksichtigenden Kostenstruktur (Energie, Umweltschutz…) bewirkt zunehmend eine Nischenbildung zu qualitativ hochwertigen Spezialprodukten. Einige dieser Produkte haben ihren urformenden Ursprung als gegossener Block. So werden heutzutage hauptsächlich sehr große Schmiederohlinge, kleine Produktionsmengen mit speziellen Legierungen oder Stahllegierungen, die im Strangguss aufgrund der Erstarrungsbedingungen nicht technisch sinnvoll hergestellt werden können, im Blockgussverfahren erzeugt (Kapitel 1.3). Aufgrund der im Vergleich zum Stranggussverfahren deutlich nachteiligen Kostenstruktur hat das Blockgussverfahren nur dort Relevanz, wo es technische Vorteile bietet. Die Haltbarkeit bis zum Ausfall von großen Blockgusskokillen mit einer Kapazität von 25 bis 40 Tonnen Blocktonnage variiert in der Regel zwischen 20 und 70 Thermozyklen (Abgüssen). Nach der ersten thermischen Belastung durch den Stahlguss lässt sich eine verbreitete Brandrissigkeit an den Innenseiten der Kokille, die Kontakt zur Stahlschmelze hatten, feststellen. In der weiteren Abfolge der thermozyklischen Belastung kommt es zu lokalen Anrissen, die zunächst noch mit Dichtmassen eingedämmt werden können, sich jedoch mit jedem Gießzyklus ausweiten. Schließlich kommt es zum Durchriss über die gesamte Wandstärke und damit zum Ausfall der Kokille. Für ausgefallene Kokillen ist eine kostenintensive Ersatzerzeugung notwendig. Kostentreiber sind insbesondere die schwierige Rezyklierung sowie die hohen Vollkosten für eine Erzeugung von Kleinchargen. Zunächst müssen zu verschrottende Kokillen in einem zugelassenen Trümmerwerk zerkleinert und dann als Eisenmischschrott abgesetzt werden. Aufgrund des hohen Volumen/Masse-Verhältnisses sowohl der Kokillen (nicht schachtelbar) als auch der Trümmerstücke entstehen erhebliche Transportkosten. Weiterhin sind Margenabschläge bei Absatz von Kleinmengenschrott zu bedenken (2). 2 Kokillen werden aus Gründen des Schutzes von Betriebsgeheimnissen oft direkt von dem Verwender selbst hergestellt. Es kam und kommt immer wieder zum „zufälligen“ Erzeugen von Kokillen mit erheblich gesteigerter Haltbarkeit. Erst seit einigen Jahren wurden in verschiedenen Betrieben Untersuchungen zur Verlängerung der Haltbarkeit von Blockgusskokillen angestellt, ohne jedoch konkrete Ergebnisse ausweisen zu können. Es wird weiterhin im Allgemeinen mit bewährten und reproduzierbaren Grobvorgaben gearbeitet. Ziel dieser Arbeit soll die Untersuchung der der variablen Kokillenhaltbarkeit zugrunde liegenden metallurgischen Phänomene sowie deren technisch nutzbare und reproduzierbare Umsetzung zur Verlängerung der Haltbarkeit sein. Gleichzeitig muss die Eignung für den Produktionszweck, also der Erhalt und gegebenenfalls die Steigerung der Blockqualität, berücksichtigt werden, auf die in den Blockgussbetrieben bislang das Hauptaugenmerk gelegt wurde. Shorter available development times and fewer available vehicle prototypes have increased the subsystem-based investigation on test rigs within the automotive development process. Steering systems exhibit a direct interface to the driver, therefore, posing high requirements to the control performance of a test bench, especially for the perception of steering feel. This work proposes three approaches to improve the force control performance of permanent magnet linear motors incorporated on a steering test bench. The first method improves control accuracy when a harmonic force signal is introduced into the steering system by adjusting the reference force signal based on the identified peak values of the measured and reference forces. The second method allows the inclusion of the actuator’s inertia and the occurring ratios between steering wheel angle and rack displacement into the control scheme to reduce performance deterioration due to inertia. The third approach considers delay time in the actuator control and estimates its future position for delay compensation. A validation of the proposed methods is conducted, displaying an improvement for all three applications. The proposed methods extend the applicability of a steering test bench within the automotive development process by enabling more accurate and reproductible control performance. OA Förderung 2023

Die vorliegende Arbeit handelt von den mechanischen Eigenschaften und dem Gefüge des mittels Binder Jetting (BJT) additiv gefertigten Stahls 17-4 PH (1.4542). Eingangs wird die Reproduzierbarkeit der Gründichte in Abhängigkeit vom Bauzyklus und der Probenposition im Bauraum der BJT-Anlage ermittelt. Anhand von Würfel- und Zugproben folgen Untersuchungen bezüglich des Einflusses von Sintertemperatur und Haltezeit sowie des Einflusses der Probengeometrie auf Gefügemerkmale wie Porosität, Phasenverteilung und Korngröße ebenso wie auf Härte, Festigkeit und Duktilität. Der Fokus der Experimente liegt dabei stets auf den Wechselwirkungen zwischen den mechanischen Eigenschaften und dem zugrunde liegenden Gefüge. Darüber hinaus wird im Rahmen der Arbeit eine angepasste Wärmebehandlung für den mittels BJT gefertigten 17-4 PH vorgestellt, die im Gegensatz zur konventionellen Wärmebehandlung die martensitische Umwandlung und die Ausscheidungsverfestigung für Geometrien mit Wandstärken von bis zu 15 mm gewährleistet. Abschließend werden das Ermü- dungsverhalten sowie die Zugeigenschaften und die Kerbschlagzähigkeit in Abhängigkeit der Aufbaurichtung beim Drucken für einen gehärteten und einen überalterten Wärmebehandlungszustand (H900* und H1150M*) vorgestellt, This study addresses the mechanical properties and microstructure of a 17-4 PH martensitic steel (1.4542) additively manufactured by means of binder jetting (BJT). Initially, the reproducibility of green density as a function of the build cycle and the specimen position in the build chamber of the BJT-system is analyzed. By using cubic specimens and tensile specimens, the effects of sintering temperature, hold time and specimen geometry are investigated with respect to microstructural characteristics such as porosity, phase distribution and grain size as well as to hardness, strength and ductility. The experiments are focussed on the correlations between the mechanical properties and the corresponding microstructures. In addition, the study presents an adapted heat treatment for the 17-4 PH produced by BJT, which ensures martensitic transformation and precipitation hardening for geometries with wall thicknesses of up to 15 mm in contrast to the conventional heat treatment. Finally, the fatigue behavior as well as the tensile properties and the notched impact strength as a function of the build direction during printing are presented for a hardened and an overaged heat treatment condition (H900* and H1150M*).

The influence of crystallinity on the electrocatalytic activity of complex alloys requires further clarification to optimize their properties. In this work, the electrocatalytic properties of additively manufactured Fe-based bulk metallic glasses (BMG), namely, their activity toward the oxygen evolution reaction are studied in alkaline media. Laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M) is applied to fabricate electrodes with different numbers of glass-forming Fe₇₅Mo₁₄.₃Ni₁.₆P₆C₂.₂B₁ layers on 316L stainless steel substrates. Electrochemical and physicochemical characterization techniques are used to characterize the surface of the electrodes both as-built and after annealing and devitrification. Although different process parameters lead to similar electrochemical responses, certain differences are observable. Namely, the thickness of the BMG-coating and the ratio of crystalline/amorphous phases seems to determine the catalytic activity. In particular, it is noticeable that partially crystallized samples display higher activities, contrary to some previous observations on different materials. The measurements indicate a complex interplay between crystallinity and active surface area that determines the electrochemical properties of the investigated electrode material. in press

Two methods were compared to predict a ship’s fuel consumption: the simplified naval architecture method (SNAM) and the deep neural network (DNN) method. The SNAM relied on limited operational data and employed a simplified technique to estimate a ship’s required power by determining its resistance in calm water. Here, the Holtrop–Mennen technique obtained hydrostatic information for each selected voyage, the added resistance in the encountered natural seaways, and the brake power required for each scenario. Additional characteristics, such as efficiency factors, were derived from literature surveys and from assumed working hypotheses. The DNN method comprised multiple fully connected layers with the nonlinear activation function rectified linear unit (ReLU). This machine-learning-based method was trained on more than 12,000 sample voyages, and the tested data were validated against realistic operational data. Our results demonstrated that, for some ship topologies (general cargo and containerships), the physical models predicted more accurately the realistic data than the machine learning approach despite the lack of relevant operational parameters. Nevertheless, the DNN method was generally capable of yielding reasonably accurate predictions of fuel consumption for oil tankers, bulk carriers, and RoRo ships.

Batteries are already and will continue to be the most important energy storage systems for operating portable electronic devices and electric vehicles as well as for stationary energy storage in power grids. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which dominate the market for portable devices and electric vehicles, have been optimized for higher energy density over the past 30 years. However, the physicochemical limit of LIBs based on the state-of-the-art Li[NixCoyMn1–x–y]O2 (NCM)/carbon chemistry has almost been reached, requiring the development of new battery technologies. To meet the future requirements, a further battery improvement is needed in terms of a higher energy density, a longer cycle life, and higher safety levels. All-solid-state batteries (ASBs), including ceramic ASBs with garnet electrolytes, are considered as one of the promising next generation battery technologies, so the further development and optimization of the garnet-type ASBs is the focus of this thesis. Unlike conventional LIBs, garnet-based ASBs use Li6.45Al0.05La3Zr1.6Ta0.4O12 (LLZO:Ta) garnet as separator and solid-state electrolyte (SSE). Due to the ceramic nature of the SSE, the garnetbased SSEs are nonflammable and offer a higher safety than LIBs based on liquid, organic electrolytes. In addition to nonflammability, the compatibility of LLZO:Ta with metallic lithium makes it very attractive for the development of ASBs with Li metal anodes, which can increase the energy density. Although Li metal anodes are an important prerequisite for a higher energy density, achieving this goal also requires the development of composites cathodes containing an SSE with a high ionic conductivity and a cathode active material (CAM) with a high gravimetric and volumetric capacity and high areal loadings. Since ceramic composite cathodes are typically manufactured via co-sintering, the elevated temperatures required for this process pose challenges for material compatibility. High-capacity cathode active materials like NCM exhibit insufficient material compatibility with LLZO:Ta during co-sintering, leading to the formation of highly resistive interphases. Therefore, to enable high capacity garnet-based composite cathodes, the thermodynamic stability of NCM with LLZO:Ta at elevated temperatures must be improved. It is well known that the electrochemical properties of NCM in conventional LIBs with liquid electrolytes strongly depend on the nature and composition of the transition metals (TM) in the host structure, as well as on the doping of the NCM structure with various elements. Due to its versatility, doping has been intensively studied as a means to improve the electrochemical performance of NCMs in conventional LIBs with liquid electrolytes, where it has already proven to be an effective strategy for a performance optimization. It is expected that doping can also improve the material compatibility of NCM with solid electrolytes, but no research has been done in this area. Due to the importance of NCM cathode materials for the further development of lithium batteries with both conventional, liquid electrolytes and emerging solid-state electrolytes, this thesis addresses the performance optimization of NCM through structural doping as well as the integration of NCM powders into garnet-based composite cathodes. Two NCM compositions, namely, Li[Ni1/3Co1/3Mn1/3]O2 (NCM111) and Ni-rich Li[Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1]O2 (NCM811), as well as doping of the NCM host structure with boron and ruthenium were investigated. Pristine NCM111, pristine NCM811, B-doped NCM111, B-doped NCM811 and Ru-doped NCM811 were synthesized in a laboratory scale batch process via a hydroxide co-precipitation route. In addition to this batch synthesis in a glass flask, the use of a Couette-Taylor-Flow-Reactor (CTFR) for a continuous co-precipitation was demonstrated. The synthesis conditions thus optimized lead to an optimized NCM morphology with greatly improved electrochemical performance. All CAM compositions were characterized in detail to investigate the incorporation and distribution of the dopants in the NCM lattice. The effects of NCM composition, B, and Ru doping on the morphology and electrochemical performance were investigated in cells with a liquid electrolyte. Based on density functional theory (DFT) calculation, it was found that boron can be located in the Ni- and/or O-layers of the NCM lattice, depending on the concentration, and exhibits tetrahedral or trigonal planar coordination with oxygen, respectively. Therefore, B doping of NCM811 affects the crystal structure and cation disorder, leading to a change in the size and shape of the primary particles. To experimentally prove that the observations are caused by boron incorporated into the NCM lattice, boron was detected, quantified, and localized in B-doped NCM811 by ion beam analysis (IBA) and timeof-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). A boron enrichment was detected at the agglomerate surface, but also, more importantly, a significantly high and constant boron concentration was found inside the primary particles near the surface, confirming experimentally that boron is incorporated into the NCM811 lattice. B doping of NCM811 was shown to enhance capacity retention during long-term galvanostatic cycling, which could be an effect of the boron enrichment on the secondary particle surface, where it likely forms a protective surface coating. Comparative analysis of NCM811 and NCM111 showed that the TM composition affects the shape of the primary particles. While cuboidal primary particles were obtained for Ni-rich NCM811, NCM111 shows thin flake-shaped primary particles. The 2 mol% B doping of NCM111 leads to increased lattice parameters, slightly enhanced cation disorder, and shows interesting effects on the morphology, namely, harder and larger agglomerates, resulting in a strongly reduced BET surface area compared to pristine NCM111. In contrast to NCM811, Bdoping of NCM111 did not result in improved electrochemical performance during long-term cycling, as NCM111 itself already showed excellent capacity retention of 93 % after 100 charge-discharge cycles. In addition to boron, ruthenium was also investigated as a dopant of NCM811. Ruthenium was successfully incorporated into the NCM811 lattice and preferentially occupies octahedral Ni positions in the mixed Mn/Ni planes, as found by DFT calculation. Ru doping increases the NCM lattice parameters and leads to higher cation disorder and larger amount of Li vacancies due to its high oxidation state (Ru5+). In addition, Ru doping decreases the size of the cuboidal primary particles. Ruthenium was successfully detected and localized in Ru-doped NCM811 by transmission electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (TEM/EDS), IBA, and TOF-SIMS. The main difference of Ru doping compared to B doping is the homogenous distribution of ruthenium on the agglomerate surface and inside the primary particles, as no enrichment was observed. However, despite the successful incorporation into NCM lattice and contrary to previous studies on other cathode materials, Ru doping did not show any advantage compared to parent NCM structure, as the Ru-doped NCM811 exhibited an increased cell resistance and lower specific charge/discharge capacities compared to pristine NCM811 and Bdoped NCM811. The CAMs compositions studied in this thesis were also mixed with LLZO:Ta to investigate the material compatibility during co-sintering at elevated temperatures. Differential thermal analysis/thermogravimetry coupled with a mass spectrometer (DTA/TG/MS), in-situ high temperature X-ray diffraction (HT-XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and EDS were used to monitor the phase evolution during sintering. Although DTA/TG/MS analysis did not reveal any endo- or exothermic processes indicative of a decomposition reaction, the in-situ HT-XRD analysis detected two secondary phases, namely, LaCo1–xMnxO3 and La2(Ni0.5Li0.5)O4 during co-sintering of NCM and LLZO:Ta. Their formation onset temperature and amount were found to be strongly dependent on the NCM composition and doping. The B doping of NCM111 enhances the formation of the secondary phases, while the B doping of NCM811 has no effect on the thermodynamic stability. The Ru doping was shown to even slightly reduce the amount of secondary phases. The experimental work was supported by simulation studies with DFT calculation, which clearly show that Mn is the most favorable TM in NCM to undergo interchange with Zr from LLZO:Ta. Therefore, the Mn-rich NCM111 shows enhanced formation of secondary phases. Surprisingly, the Ni-rich NCM811 formed only small amounts of La2(Ni0.5Li0.5)O4 in contact with LLZO:Ta. This phase formed self-constrained and thus, it is proving Ni-rich NCM811 to be the most promising active material for the combination with garnet-type LLZO:Ta. Moreover, the B doping of NCM811 does not deteriorate its thermal stability toward LLZO:Ta, which also validates the use of Li3BO3 (LBO) as a sintering additive. Thus, the use of LBO enables the fabrication of fully inorganic ceramic lithium batteries by conventional sintering. The resulting ASBs have a Li metal anode, a LLZO:Ta separator and a composite cathode consisting of LLZO:Ta, LBO, and NCM811. The use of LBO as a sintering additive significantly lowers the sintering temperature and enables the fabrication of a dense composite cathode as low as 750 °C. The reaction between LBO and Li2CO3 enables the formation of a Li2+yC1–yByO3 (LCBO) interphase with the desired Li-ion conductivity. The fully inorganic ASB demonstrated in this thesis operated without polymeric interlayers and delivered a high specific areal discharge capacity of 0.7 mAh cm–2 in the first cycle, which is one of the highest performances obtained for garnet-based ASBs., Bereits heute sind Batterien wichtige Energiespeichersysteme für den Betrieb von tragbaren elektronischen Geräten und Elektrofahrzeugen sowie für stationäre, netzgebundene Energiespeicher und werden hier, auch zukünftig, eine bedeutende Rolle einnehmen. Die heute weit verbreiteten Lithium-Ionen-Batterien (LIB), wurden innerhalb der letzten 30 Jahren hin zu immer höheren Energiedichten weiterentwickelt und optimiert. Damit LIB auch die zukünftigen Anforderungen erfüllen können, ist eine weitere Optimierung zu noch höher Energiedichte, länger Lebensdauer und höherer Sicherheit notwendig. Allerdings ist die physikalisch-chemische Leistungsgrenze der LIB, basierend auf der aktuellen Li[NixCoyMn1–x–y]O2 (NCM)/Kohlenstoff Chemie, fast erreicht, weshalb die Entwicklung neuer Batterietechnologien notwendig ist. Die Festkörperbatterie, ist eine der möglichen Batterietechnologien der nächsten Generation. Daher sind die Weiterentwicklung und Optimierung granatartiger Festkörperbatterien das Thema dieser Dissertation. Im Gegensatz zu konventionellen LIB, nutzen granatartige Festkörperbatterien Li6.45Al0.05La3Zr1.6Ta0.4O12 (LLZO:Ta) als Separator und Festkörperelektrolyt. Auf Grund des keramischen Festkörperelektrolyten, sind granatartige Festkörperbatterien nicht brennbar und deutlich sicherer als LIB basieren auf flüssigen, organischen Elektrolyten. Zusätzlich ist LLZO:Ta stabil gegenüber metallischem Lithium, sodass die Verwendung einer Lithiummetallanode ermöglicht wird und somit Festkörperbatterien mit deutliche höheren Energiedichten entwickelt werden können. Allerdings ist für eine solche Festkörperbatterie mit hoher Energiedichte, neben einer Lithiummetallanode, auch die Entwicklung einer Mischkathode, bestehend aus einem Festkörperelektrolyten mit guter ionischer Leitfähigkeit und einem Aktivmaterial mit hoher gravimetrischer und volumetrischer Kapazität sowie hoher flächenbezogener Aktivmaterialbeladung, notwendig. Keramische Mischkathoden werden üblicherweise durch Co-Sintern der beiden Komponenten gefertigt, wobei die hierzu benötigten hohen Temperaturen zu einer herausfordernden Materialkompatibilität führen. Kathodenmaterialien mit hoher Kapazität, wie NCM, weisen eine unzureichende Kompatibilität gegenüber LLZO:Ta während des Co-Sinterns auf, welche zur Ausbildung von unerwünschten Zwischenphasen mit hohen Widerständen führt. Daher muss die thermodynamische Stabilität von NCM gegenüber LLZO:Ta erhöhten werden, um granatbasierte Mischkathoden mit hoher Kapazität realisiert zu können. Es ist bereits bekannt, dass die Übergangsmetallzusammensetzung die elektrochemischen und thermischen Eigenschaften des NCM, in konventionellen Zellen basierend auf flüssigem, organischem Elektrolyten, beeinflusst. Dotierungen der NCM Gerüststruktur mit verschiedenen Elementen haben sich bereits als effektive Strategie zur Optimierung von NCM für die Anwendung in konventionellen LIB herausgestellt. Es wird erwartet, dass eine Dotierung auch die Materialkompatibilität von NCM mit Festelektrolyten verbessern kann, aber in diesem Bereich wurde bisher noch keine Forschung betrieben. Aufgrund der Bedeutung von NCM als Kathodenmaterial für die weitere Entwicklung von Lithiumbatterien, sowohl mit konventionellen Flüssigelektrolyten als auch mit neuartigen Festkörperelektrolyten, befasst sich diese Arbeit mit der Optimierung von NCM durch Dotierung sowie mit der Integration von NCM-Pulvern in Mischkathoden basierend auf LLZO:Ta. Zwei NCM Zusammensetzungen, Li[Ni1/3Co1/3Mn1/3]O2 (NCM111) und Ni-reiches Li[Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1]O2 (NCM811), sowie Dotierungen mit Bor und Ruthenium wurden untersucht. Dazu wurden reines NCM111, reines NCM811, B-dotiertes NCM111, B-dotiertes NCM811 und Ru-dotiertes NCM811 batchweise über eine Co-Fällung im Labormaßstab hergestellt. Zusätzlich zu dieser Batchsynthese im Glaskolben, wurde ein Couette-Taylor-FlowReaktor (CTFR) zur kontinuierlichen Synthese eingesetzt. Die dadurch optimierten Synthesebedingungen, resultieren in NCM mit optimaler Morphologie sowie deutlich verbesserten Lade- und Entladekapazitäten. Alle Kathodenaktivmaterialien wurden eingehend charakterisiert, um die erfolgreiche Dotierung des NCM Gitters nachzuweisen. Zusätzlich wurde der Einfluss der NCM Zusammensetzung und der Dotierungen auf die Morphologie und die elektrochemische Aktivität, in Zellen basierend auf flüssigem Elektrolyten, analysiert. Dichtefunktionaltheorie (DFT)-Berechnungen haben gezeigt, dass Bor, in Abhängigkeit seiner Konzentration, in den Ni und/oder O Schichten des NCM-Gitters sitzt und eine tetraedrische, beziehungsweise, trigonal planare Koordination mit Sauerstoff eingeht. Daher beeinflusst die B-Dotierung von NCM811 dessen Kristallstruktur, führt zu Kationenmischung sowie einer Veränderung der Primärpartikelform und -größe. Zum experimentellen Nachweis, dass diese Beobachtungen wirklich durch den Einbau von Bor in das NCM-Gitter hervorgerufen werden, wurde Bor über Ionenstrahlanalytik und Flugzeit-Sekundärionen-Massenspektrometrie (TOFSIMS) detektiert, quantifiziert und lokalisiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich Bor auf der Oberfläche der Agglomerate anreichert, aber auch eine signifikant hohe Konzentration im inneren der Primärpartikel zu finden ist. Somit wurde der experimentelle Nachweis für den erfolgreichen Einbau von Bor in das NCM-Gitter erbracht. Letztendlich führt die B-dotierung von NCM811 zu einem verbesserten Kapazitätserhalt während des galvanostatischen Zyklierens der Zelle, welcher möglicherweise durch die Anreicherung von Bor auf der Sekundärpartikeloberfläche, unter Ausbildung einer Schutzschicht, erklärt werden kann. Die vergleichende Analyse von NCM811 und NCM111 zeigte, dass die Übergangsmetallzusammensetzung einen Einfluss auf die Primärpartikelform hat. Während für das Ni-reiche NCM811 würfelförmige Primärpartikel erhalten wurden, zeigt NCM111 dünne flockenartige Primärpartikel. Eine Dotierung mit 2 mol% Bor führte zu größeren Gitterparametern und leicht erhöhter Kationenmischung. Zudem zeigt sie interessante Auswirkungen auf die Morphologie, nämlich härtere und größere Agglomerate, welche zu einer stark reduzierten BET Oberfläche, im Vergleich zum reinen NCM111, führen. Im Gegensatz zu NCM811, bewirkte die B-Dotierung von NCM111 keine verbesserte elektrochemische Leistung während Langzeitzelltests. NCM111 zeigte bereits einen sehr guten Kapazitätserhalt von 93 % nach 100 Lade- und Entladezyklen, welcher im Rahmen dieser Arbeit nicht weiter steigerbar war. Neben Bor wurde auch Ruthenium als Dotierstoff in NCM811 untersucht. Ruthenium wurde erfolgreich in das NCM811 Gitter eingebaut und besetzt dabei, wie durch DFT-Berechnungen belegt wurde, vorzugsweise Ni-Positionen in den gemischten Mn/Ni Schichten. Die RuDotierung vergrößert die Gitterparameter des NCM811 und führt, bedingt durch den hohen Oxidationszustand (Ru5+), zu einer stark erhöhten Kationenmischung und der Ausbildung von Lithiumleerstellen. Des Weiteren führt die Ru-Dotierung zu einer deutlichen Verkleinerung der Primärpartikel. Ruthenium wurde erfolgreich über Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie (TEM)/Energiedispersive Röntgenspektroskopie (EDS), Ionenstrahlanalytik und TOF-SIMS nachgewiesen und quantifiziert. Im Vergleich zur B-Dotierung, führt eine Ru-Dotierung nicht zur Anreicherung von Ruthenium auf Sekundärpartikeloberfläche. Es zeigt sich eine gelichmäßige Verteilung von Ruthenium auf der Oberfläche sowohl als auch im inneren der Primärpartikel. Während der elektrochemischen Charakterisierung zeigten sich, im Vergleich zu NCM811 und B-dotiertem NCM811, höhere Widerstände und deutlich geringere Lade- und Entladekapazitäten. Die verschiedenen Kathodenmaterialien, welche im Rahmen dieser Dissertation synthetisiert wurden, wurden auch mit LLZO:Ta gemischt, um die Materialkompatibilität während des CoSinterns zu untersuchen. Differenz-Thermoanalyse/Thermogravimetrie gekoppelt mit einem Massenspektrometer (DTA/TG/MS), in-situ Hochtemperaturröntgenbeugung (HT-XRD), Rasterelektronenmikroskopie (SEM) und EDS wurden benutzt, um die Nebenphasenbildung während des Co-Sinterns zu beobachten. Die DTA/TG/MS Analyse zeigte keine endo- oder exothermen Prozesse, die auf eine Zersetzungsreaktion hindeuten würden. Dennoch zeigte die in-situ HT-XRD Analyse, dass sich zwei Nebenphasen, nämlich LaCo1–xMnxO3 und La2(Ni0.5Li0.5)O4, während des Co-Sinterns von NCM und LLZO:Ta bilden. Die Temperatur bei der die Nebenphasenbildung beginnt sowie deren Menge hängt stark von der NCM Zusammensetzung und der Dotierung ab. Die B-Dotierung von NCM111 führte zu einer Verstärkung der Nebenphasenbildung. Im Gegensatz dazu, zeigte die B-Dotierung von NCM811 keinen Einfluss auf die thermodynamische Stabilität und die Ru-Dotierung resultierte sogar in einer leicht reduzierten Nebenphasenbildung. Die experimentellen Untersuchungen wurden durch DFT-Berechnungen unterstützt, welche belegen, dass Mn das bevorzugte Übergangsmetall in NCM ist, das einen Austausch mit Zr vom LLZO:Ta eingeht und es deshalb besonders beim Mn-reichen NCM111 zu verstärkter Nebenphasenbildung kommt. Erstaunlicherweise bildet Ni-reiches NCM811 im Kontakt mit LLZO:Ta nur eine, sich selbstbeschränkende, Menge an La2(Ni0.5Li0.5)O4 aus und stellt sich damit als vielversprechendstes Aktivmaterial für die Kombination mit granatartigem LLZO:Ta heraus. Des Weiteren beeinträchtigt die B-Dotierung von NCM811 die thermische Stabilität gegenüber LLZO:Ta nicht, sodass die Verwendung von Li3BO3 (LBO) als Sinteradditiv problemlos möglich ist. Dies ermöglicht die Herstellung einer vollständig anorganischen Festkörperbatterie mit einer Lithiummetallanode, einem LLZO:Ta Separator und einer Mischkathode bestehend aus LLZO:Ta, LBO und NCM811. Die Verwendung des Sinteradditives ermöglicht die Herstellung einer dichten Mischkathode bereits bei 750 °C. Zusätzlich wird durch die Reaktion zwischen LBO und Li2CO3 die Ausbildung einer Li2+yC1–yByO3 (LCBO) Zwischenphase, mit Lithiumionenleitfähigkeit, ermöglicht. Die im Rahmen dieser Arbeit hergestellte anorganische Festkörperbatterie funktionierte ohne Polymerzwischenschichten und lieferte eine besonders hohe spezifische flächenbezogene Entladekapazität von 0.7 mAh cm–2 im ersten Zyklus, welche eine der höchsten Leistungen ist, die bisher für granatartige Festkörperbatterien erreicht wurden.

Traditional companies from capital-intensive industries are facing hard challenges in times of digitalization. Far-reaching technological changes have the potential to weaken long-time successful operational capabilities of the companies and make them obsolete. Based on theoretical explanations this paper examines the possibilities for accelerating digitalization and its impacts on the creation and transfer of operational capabilities using the example of traditional companies. Therefore, in the first study, the digital status quo of 160 German industry companies was measured in a digital maturity assessment based on a theoretically derived maturity model. The average level of digital maturity is 3.92 out of 7 and shows a need for improvement. Further results make it clear that many companies (44%) have not yet experienced any increase in profitability as a result of digitalization. A cluster analysis was therefore used to identify six archetypes of companies with varying degrees of digitalization. Possible opportunities for acceleration were identified by comparing the levels within the maturity model dimensions. Another quantitative study was conducted to compare the economic effects of digitalization and the requirements for the creation of operational capabilities in a structural equation model. The quantitative survey of 200 German industrial companies showed that increased adaptation to the environmental dynamics and intensive interaction in value-creation networks and ecosystems have a positive effect on the advantageousness of the capabilities created in times of digitalization. In contrast, the effects of higher imitability and tradeability of the capabilities do not have a significant impact. By drawing on a third study based on qualitative content analysis, the impacts of digitalization on the trade-off between transfer and protection against disclosure of operational capabilities were investigated. Therefore, the single case study methodology was applied to a German manufacturing company. From the literature, the balancing parameters of decentralization of decision-making and information richness of communication mechanisms were identified as optimization parameters for the trade-off. By analyzing the interviews and further data subparameters were generated that are set differently in the case study company depending on the transfer technologies used. This optimization is needed to mitigate the trade-off between the transfer and protection of capabilities. The present thesis thus makes a theoretical and practical contribution to improving digital maturity and maintaining the competence-based competitive advantages of capital-intensive industries in times of digitalization. Adaptive boosting (AdaBoost) algorithms fuse multiple weak classifiers to generate a strong classifier by adaptively determining the fusion weights of the weak classifiers. According to incorrect or correct classification results, sample weights become larger or smaller. However, this weight update scheme neglects valuable information in the results. Moreover, an important requirement for weak classifiers is an accuracy higher than random guessing. This requirement is likely to lead to an unexpected result. This means that several generated weak classifiers with similar classification results cannot learn from each other. Consequently, the advantage of fusing multiple weak classifiers disappears. The classification and therefore distinction of different failure modes in materials is a typical task for classical nondestructive testing approaches as well as for new approaches based on machine learning methods. In the case different approaches can be applied, the main question is, which and how tuned approaches provide the best results in terms of accuracy or similar metrics. In the multi-damage classification task distinguishing different physical failure mechanisms in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), the above two aspects complicate the application of AdaBoost algorithms. To improve the results, a novel AdaBoost with distance-based weighted least square support vector machine (WLSSVM) and filter factor is proposed. The distance-based WLSSVM is employed to increase the diversity of weak classifiers, the distances of the classification plane and samples are used to measure the classification task. The filter factor is proposed to filter out unnecessary classifiers contributing less to the final decision. The experimental results demonstrate that the improved AdaBoost schemes with distance-based WLSSVM and filter factor outperform state-of-the-art algorithms. The effects of the scheme using the new weighted update and the filter factor on the algorithm are discussed, respectively. The experimental results show that the combination of the two schemes perform better than other schemes.

Phase change materials (PCM) can increase the energy densities in thermal energy storage systems. Heat transfer rates in PCMs are usually limiting, different improvement methods were used previously, such as fins or improved thermal conductivities. Here, the influence of fin geometries, PCM thermal conductivity and discharge temperature of the secondary fluid are investigated by modelling. The analysed outcomes are their influence on stored energy, heat flux and stored exergy. The two-dimensional time dependent energy equation was solved for a rectangular enclosure with a secondary fluid with constant temperature as boundary condition on one side. The modelled PCM data based on a paraffin melting at 44 °C. The different improvement methods increase the heat flux, but the increase is lower than expected according to idealized calculations. The basis for this investigation is the evaluation of a dimensionless heat flux number formed from the heat flux, thermal conductivity, temperature difference from the secondary fluid to the phase change temperature and a characteristic length of the system. The influence of the better thermal conductivity is found to be lower at higher fin volume fractions. The increase of the discharge temperature difference had the strongest impact on the heat flux, but the exergy loss also increased. The exergy loss was also related to the achieved reduction in the discharge time as an indicator for the heat flux. Here, it was seen that the exergy losses outweigh the advantage in discharge time from a higher discharge temperature difference.

With the convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) in Industry 4.0, edge computing is increasingly relevant in the context of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). While the use of simulation is already the state of the art in almost every engineering discipline, e.g., dynamic systems, plant engineering, and logistics, it is less common for edge computing. This work discusses different use cases concerning edge computing in IIoT that can profit from the use of OT simulation methods. In addition to enabling machine learning, the focus of this work is on the virtual commissioning of data stream processing systems. To evaluate the proposed approach, an exemplary application of the middleware layer, i.e., a multi-agent reinforcement learning system for intelligent edge resource allocation, is combined with a physical simulation model of an industrial plant. It confirms the feasibility of the proposed use of simulation for virtual commissioning of an industrial edge computing system using Hardware-in-the-Loop. In summary, edge computing in IIoT is highlighted as a new application area for existing simulation methods from the OT perspective. The benefits in IIoT are exemplified by various use cases for the logic or middleware layer using physical simulation of the target environment. The relevance for real-life IIoT systems is confirmed by an experimental evaluation, and limitations are pointed out.

This study proposed wavelet-based approaches to characterise random vibration road excitations for durability prediction of coil springs. Conventional strain-life approaches require long computational time, while the accuracy of the vibration fatigue methods is unsatisfactory. It is therefore a necessity to establish an accurate fatigue life prediction model based on vibrational features. Wavelet-based methods were applied to determine the low-frequency energy and multifractality of road excitations. Strain-life models were applied for fatigue life evaluation from strain histories. ANFIS modelling was subsequently adopted to associate the vibration features with the fatigue life of coil springs. Results showed that the proposed wavelet-based methods were effective to determine the signal energy and multifractality of vibration signals. The established vibration-based models showed good fatigue life conservativity with a data survivability of more than 90%. The highest Pearson coefficient of 0.955 associated with the lowest RMSE of 0.660 was obtained by the Morrow-based model. It is suggested that the low-frequency energy and multifractality of the vibration signals can be used as fatigue-related features in life predictions of coil springs under random loading. Finally, the proposed model is an acceptable fatigue life prediction method based on vibration features, and it can reduce the dependency on strain data measurement.

In einem vom Ministerium für Heimat, Kommunales, Bau und Digitalisierung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen geförderten Projekt soll die Digitalisierung in der Bauwirtschaft vorangetrieben werden. Das Ziel ist es, wesentliche Teile des Rohbaus auf Basis eines digitalen Gebäudemodells automatisch mit parallelen Seilrobotern zu errichten. Nach der Realisierung der automatisierten Mauerwerkserrichtung soll die automatische Erstellung von Decken entwickelt werden. In diesem Beitrag wird der Auswahlprozess von Deckensystemen für die automatisierte Deckenerstellung beschrieben. Das Verfahren basiert auf drei im Detaillierungsgrad zunehmenden Bewertungsdurchläufen verschiedener Deckensysteme. Der erste Durchlauf ist eine Vorauswahl von Deckensystemen, die sich auf die Machbarkeit der Automatisierung und die Traglast des vorhandenen Seilroboters konzentriert. Der zweite Durchlauf umfasst eine detailliertere Analyse, die sich auf Wirtschaftlichkeitsmodelle, Errichtungszeiten, erwartete Akzeptanz, Anwendbarkeitsspektrum sowie Lager- und Logistikbedingungen bezieht. Im letzten Durchlauf soll das Legen der ausgewählten Deckensysteme mit einem bestehenden Seilroboter validiert werden, was zum Zeitpunkt dieser Veröffentlichung noch aussteht., In a project funded by the Ministry for Regional Identity, Local Government, Building and Digitalization of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia, digitalization in the construction industry is to be advanced. The process is based on three evaluation runs of different floor systems with increasing levels of detail. The first run is a pre-selection of ceiling systems focusing on the feasibility of automation and the payload of the existing cable robot. The second run includes a more detailed analysis related to economic models, deployment times, expected acceptance, applicability spectrum, and storage and logistics conditions. Mechanische Automatisierungssysteme in der Logistikbranche werden eingesetzt, um Güter im Logistikzentrum zu lagern und zu transportieren oder um deren Lage und Ausrichtung für weitere Umschlag-, Sortier-, Lager- oder andere Prozesse zu manipulieren. Der Vergleich und die Klassifizierung der einzelnen Automatisierungssysteme ist aufgrund der großen Vielfalt möglicher Funktionsprinzipien in der gleichen Anwendung schwierig, insbesondere im Arbeitsbereich der Be- und Entladung von Transportfahrzeugen. Die hier vorgeschlagene Methode zur Bewertung dieser Systeme soll den Entwicklungsprozess eines neuen Automatisierungssystems durch die Bereitstellung einer Bewertungsstruktur unterstützen. Anhand des Bewertungsergebnisses wird das weitere Vorgehen ausgerichtet. Zu diesem Zweck werden drei verschiedene Kriterien eingeführt, die den Nutzen, den Arbeitsbereich und die Komplexität des Systems abdecken, ohne dass genaue technische Informationen über das untersuchte System ermittelt werden müssen. Die erforderlichen Informationen sollen durch die Analyse der Struktur des Systems und des Arbeitsprozesses aus einer Außenperspektive gewonnen werden. Der Vorteil der vorgestellten Methode ist der einfache Aufbau und der breite Anwendungsbereich. Andererseits hängt der Nutzen dieser Methode von der Erfahrung, der Qualifikation und vor allem der analytischen Fähigkeit des Anwenders ab, was das Ergebnis anfällig für Fehleinschätzungen macht., Mechanical automation systems in the logistics industry are used to store and transport goods in the logistics centre or to manipulate their position and orientation for further handling, sorting, storing or other processes. The comparison and classification of individual automation systems is difficult due to the great variety of possible operating principles in the same application, especially in the working area of loading and unloading transport vehicles. The method proposed here for evaluating these systems is intended to support the development process of a new automation system by providing an evaluation structure. Based on the evaluation result, the further procedure is aligned. For this purpose, three different criteria are introduced that cover the benefits, the working range and the complexity of the system without the need to identify precise technical information about the system under investigation. The required information is to be obtained by analysing the structure of the system and the work process from an outside perspective. The advantage of the presented method is the simple set-up and the wide scope of application.
