Abstract In order to investigate the stimulating effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on the growth rate and the increase of some metabolites in the microalgae Spirulina platensis, the anatase and rutile forms of the TiO2 nanoparticle were compared to the bulk form, in the presence or absence of citrate, on the microalga. The highest chlorophyll, carotenoid, phycocyanin (PC), allophycocyanin (APC), and phycoerythrin (PE) were observed on 3rd day. The highest PC and APC/PE were obtained by rutile and anatase, respectively. Rutile NPs could stimulate the increase of dry biomass and maximum specific growth rate (µm) better than anatase and even the bulk form. Carbohydrate production was stimulated by bulk and rutile. Low concentrations of nanoparticles often had a better effect in increasing PC, APC, and PE pigments. The addition of citrate without TiO2 stimulated the production of astheaxanthin, lipid, protein, and ROS. The simultaneous treatment by citrate-TiO2 was able to reduce the negative effect of nanoparticles on dry weight, but totally, its effect was dependent on the form of TiO2 and stress time. Antioxidant activity was stimulated by the bulk form and caused a decrease in Malondialdehyde (MDA), but an increase in MDA was observed by nanoparticles. The highest ROS was observed in the treatment with rutile (with citrate) on the 3rd day. In general, the stimulating effect of TiO2 on the improvement of indices or its negative effects on S.platensis microalga depended on the form and concentration of TiO2, the presence or absence of citrate, and the duration of treatments. IntroductionThe titanium element, in some cases, improves plant metabolic processes (Gohari et al., 2022; Carvajal and Alcaraz 1998). TiO2 nanoparticles in different forms have many applications in industry, and it is possible to find their way into aquatic ecosystems (Yang et al., 2015). The two forms of anatase and rutile have different surfaces, structural, and toxicity properties (Parrino et al., 2021). Some studies have shown that anatase has more cytotoxicity and photocatalytic activity than the rutile form (Clément et al., 2013). Of course, some sources mention TiO2 with low toxicity (Parrino et al., 2021). However, the effects of TiO2 nanoparticles depend on the type of organism under investigation, nanoparticle concentration, physicochemical and morphological characteristics such as its size and crystal structure. S. platensis, a spiral filamentous blue-green microalgae, has attracted the attention of researchers due to its numerous economic applications, including as a fertilizer and enhancer in agriculture, and has valuable minerals, vitamins, and nutritional compounds (Godlewska et al., 2019; Deng and Chow, 2010). Citric acid is required for various biological processes (Mudunkotuwa and Grassian, 2010). The citrate-nanometal complex can facilitate the entry of NPs along with citrate into the cell (Rupasinghe, 2011); hence the citrate form of nanometals has been recommended for the growth of plants (Chandrika et al., 2021). Some studies on plants have also shown that citrate reduces the adverse effects of nanoparticles (Tirani et al., 2018). Citrate can be adsorbed on the oxides of nanoparticles through Van der Waals bonds and prevent particles from aggregation (Park and Shumaker-Parry 2014; Rupasinghe 2011; Mudunkotuwa and Grassian, 2010).The aim of researchThe goal of this research was a comparative evaluation of the possible stimulating or adverse effects of bulk forms and nanoparticles of TiO2 (anatase and rutile), with or without citrate (in concentrations of 12.5, 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg. Due to global climate change, abiotic stresses are affecting plant growth, productivity, and the quality of cultivated crops. Stressful conditions disrupt physiological activities and suppress defensive mechanisms, resulting in stress-sensitive plants. Consequently, plants implement various endogenous strategies, including plant hormone biosynthesis (e.g., abscisic acid, jasmonic acid, salicylic acid, brassinosteroids, indole-3-acetic acid, cytokinins, ethylene, gibberellic acid, and strigolactones) to withstand stress conditions. Combined or single abiotic stress disrupts the normal transportation of solutes, causes electron leakage, and triggers reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, creating oxidative stress in plants. Several enzymatic and non-enzymatic defense systems marshal a plant’s antioxidant defenses. While stress responses and the protective role of the antioxidant defense system have been well-documented in recent investigations, the interrelationships among plant hormones, plant neurotransmitters (NTs, such as serotonin, melatonin, dopamine, acetylcholine, and γ-aminobutyric acid), and antioxidant defenses are not well explained. Thus, this review discusses recent advances in plant hormones, transgenic and metabolic developments, and the potential interaction of plant hormones with NTs in plant stress response and tolerance mechanisms. Furthermore, we discuss current challenges and future directions (transgenic breeding and genome editing) for metabolic improvement in plants using modern molecular tools. The interaction of plant hormones and NTs involved in regulating antioxidant defense systems, molecular hormone networks, and abiotic-induced oxidative stress tolerance in plants are also discussed.

The effects of some pretreatments including blue-green and green algae and minerals on the induction of me-tabolic and biochemical process of germination were studied in Dracocephalum kotschyi Boiss. seeds. The seeds were pretreated with green algae Spirulina platensis, Chlorella vulgaris and Dunaliella bardawil or D. IR-1 (Isolated from Gave-Khooni-salt marsh) and modified Johnson nutrient medium. Dunaliella species belong to salt marshs and waters, hence their medium was prepared by means of 0.6 % NaCl. Spirulina's nutrient medium (NM) included 0.1% NaCl. The activities of α-amylase, ß-amylase, dehydrogenase, content of total sugar, reducing sugars and total protein (all we-re measured after priming) increased in comarsion with control. Treatment without NaCl and the treatment with 0.1 % NaCl caused the highest amount of the parameters mentioned. In the presence of salt (often at 0.6 % NaCl), algae could not improve and increase the parameters. In contrast, in the absence of salt, the positive effects of algae increased. Ge-rmination indices and length of shoots and roots which were measured after sowing the seeds into Petri-dishes, showed some positive effects regarding the pretreatments. Spirulina cells filteration with or without NM (including 0.1% NaCl) caused the highest activities in α-amylase and ß-amylase and the highest amount of total sugar and FGP. Chlorella filt-eration led to the increment of dehydrogenase activity and also the root's lenght. Dunaliella cells filteration in NM (without salt) increased α-amylase and ß-amylase activities and the reducing sugars.

Opposition to destructive and side effects of salt stress, have limited suitable water and soil sources for plant culturing, is possible by increasing the tolerance level of seeds and seedlings. In present research, the effect of priming technique was studied with Na2SiO3 or KNO3 in 3, 6, 9 and 12 hours on Medicago sativa cv. Hamadani in response to 200 mM salt stress. Salinity caused a decrease of most of germination and growth indices from seeds and seedlings, whereas 3h-Na2SiO3 priming increased final germination percentage (FGP) and (3/6/9h)-KNO3 increased FGP, coefficient velocity of germination (CVG), compared to control. An improvement in mean germination rate (MGR) and mean germination time (MGT) was shown by 6h-Na2SiO3 and all KNO3 treatment times and increase of Vigor index (I) was observed at 3h-KNO3. Pretreatment with (3/6/9h)-Na2SiO3 and all h-KNO3 decreased T50 at stress and in non stress conditions, 9h-Na2SiO3 and 9h-KNO3 caused a decrease in mean daily germination (MDG) and an increase in Timson index and improvement of coefficient uniformity of germination (CUG). 12 hour treatments from both substances exacerbated the conditions and decreased the FGP, Vig (I) and (II) and decreased CVG. All-Na2SiO3 and (9/12)-KNO3 decreased the dry weight of shoots at stress. Proline was raised only with KNO3 and salt affected pigments negatively and priming increased them. In conclusion, priming elevated tolerance to salt stress and treatment compositions with the lower times were more efficient.

Drought stress is one of the major constraints for production and yield of soybean (Glycine max). For this reason, identifying mechanisms associated with drought tolerance in soybean is very impotent for improving and increasing drought resistance by genetic engineering methods. In this study, the effect of drought on growth traits (plant height, fresh and dry weight of shoot and also fresh and dry weight of root) and enzyme activities of isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), glutamine synthetase (GS) and nitrate reductase (NR) were assessed in drought sensitive and tolerant cultivars of soybean. The results showed that growth indicators are higher in drought tolerant cultivar under water availability (control) and water deficient when compared with those of drought sensitive cultivar. An increase in the activity of ICDH was observed in both the cultivars under drought stress as compared with their respective control plants but this activity was higher in tolerant cultivar. The activities of PEPC, MDH, GS and NR were significantly decreased in drought sensitive cultivar whereas the activities of these enzymes were higher in another cultivar. In general, the results of this study showed different behavior in the activities of assayed enzymes in two sets of soybean cultivars differing in drought tolerance and also decline of the activities of these enzymes in drought sensitive cultivar due to water deficit stress may be one of the possible reasons for decreased growth of the soybean plants under drought.
