Three years after the COVID-19 pandemic, school systems worldwide are still on the road to recovery. As students return to in-person learning, there is an increased awareness among educators to investigate the areas of student need where interventional strategies could be applied to bridge the learning loss and help further student academic achievement and emotional well-being. Focused adoption of differentiated instructional practices by teachers may be one of the many ways in which educators could make classroom learning more student-centered. This case study was an exploratory investigation into teachers' desired and actual use of differentiated instruction within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The study was conducted to gain a perspective on the areas of particular growth for differentiated instruction in the post-COVID educational environment. The findings from this study may help educational planners, school leaders, and teachers develop relevant professional development programs that could incrementally help to reverse some of the detrimental impacts of the pandemic on student learning.

Ever rising increase in number of wireless services has prompted the use of spatial multiplexing through null steering.Various algorithms provide electronic control of antenna array pattern. Simulation-driven technique further introduces correction in array factor to account for array geometry. Taguchi method is used here to combat interference in practical antenna arrays of non-isotropic elements, by incorporating the effect of antenna element pattern on array pattern control in the optimization algorithm. 4-element rectangular and bowtie patch antenna arrays are considered to validate the effectiveness of Taguchi optimization. The difference in the computed excitations and accuracy of null steering confirms the dependence of beam pattern on element factor and hence eliminates the need for extra computations performed byconventional algorithms based on array factor correction. Taguchi method employs an orthogonal array and converges rapidly to the desired radiation pattern in 25 iterations, thus signifying it to be computationally cost-effective. A higher gain and a significant reduction in side lobe level (SLL) was obtained for the bowtie array. Further, due to feed along parallel edges of the patch, the radiating edges being slanted to form the bow shape results in a significant reduction in the area as compared with the rectangular patch designed to resonate at the same frequency.

The graphene material is currently being used in the design of nano components and devices for wireless applications in terahertz (THz) regime as it possesses a number of desirable electromagnetic and mechanical properties that assist in providing flexible and reconfigurable structures. The material tunable conductivity accounts for the superior electromagnetic properties. Very little efforts however are being done to provide simplified solution of the graphene surface conductivity to be utilized for design of nano devices. Hence the authors have presented the simplified analytical solution for graphene surface conductivity expressed in terms of the chemical potential.

Regular exercise promotes whole-body health and prevents disease, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are incompletely understood1-3. Here, the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium4 profiled the temporal transcriptome, proteome, metabolome, lipidome, phosphoproteome, acetylproteome, ubiquitylproteome, epigenome and immunome in whole blood, plasma and 18 solid tissues in male and female Rattus norvegicus over eight weeks of endurance exercise training. The resulting data compendium encompasses 9,466 assays across 19 tissues, 25 molecular platforms and 4 training time points. Thousands of shared and tissue-specific molecular alterations were identified, with sex differences found in multiple tissues. Temporal multi-omic and multi-tissue analyses revealed expansive biological insights into the adaptive responses to endurance training, including widespread regulation of immune, metabolic, stress response and mitochondrial pathways. Many changes were relevant to human health, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, cardiovascular health and tissue injury and recovery. The data and analyses presented in this study will serve as valuable resources for understanding and exploring the multi-tissue molecular effects of endurance training and are provided in a public repository ( https://motrpac-data.org/ ).

INTRODUCTION: The 2021 US approval of ruxolitinib cream for treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) in patients aged ≥ 12 years was based on the results of two pivotal phase 3 studies. Currently, real-world data to describe effectiveness of ruxolitinib cream and physician satisfaction with treatment remain limited. Our objective is to describe disease control among adults with mild to moderate AD prescribed ruxolitinib cream and physician satisfaction with treatment. METHODS: Data were from the Adelphi AD Disease Specific Programme™, a US real-world, cross-sectional survey of physician-reported data, undertaken between August 2022 and March 2023. For patients aged ≥ 18 years, physicians reported patient demographics, clinical characteristics, treatment patterns, and physician satisfaction with disease control. Descriptive analysis of data for patients with mild to moderate AD prior to the initiation of ruxolitinib cream and treated with ruxolitinib cream for ≥ 1 month was undertaken. RESULTS: Among physician-reported data from 1360 patients with AD, 149 patients had received ruxolitinib cream (in combination or as monotherapy) for ≥ 1 month, including 59 patients receiving monotherapy. Prior to treatment with ruxolitinib cream, 84.6% of patients had moderate AD (Investigators Global Assessment, IGA of 3), whereas after treatment (median duration, 26 weeks), only 21.5% had an IGA of 3, with 48.3% of patients having clear or almost clear skin (IGA of 0/1). For these patients, 81.2% were not currently experiencing a flare, and physicians were satisfied with disease control for 87.3%. Results were similar in patients receiving monotherapy. The most frequent physician-reported reasons for prescribing ruxolitinib cream included relieving itch, improving lesion redness/thickness, achieving disease control, and reducing/controlling flares. CONCLUSIONS: These real-world findings demonstrate effective disease control and physician satisfaction with ruxolitinib cream for the treatment of AD in adults in a clinical practice setting. Outcomes were similar whether ruxolitinib cream was prescribed as monotherapy or in combination regimens, suggesting a role for ruxolitinib cream across the spectrum of disease.

Background: The development of smartphones has caused a dramatic change in societies worldwide. It is one of the best tools that have integrated communication, education, and entertainment. Exploration of the connection between unbalanced use and different aspects of health will be evaluated such as addiction/problematic smartphone usage (PSU), social influences, and brain changes. Objective: The objective of the study was to identify the prevalence and consequences of PSU on physical and mental health among college students of Bhopal city. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out as a pilot study among 50 college students who have been using smartphones. Self-reported questionnaire containing data related to the use of smartphone, and its impact on mental health had been collected by smartphone addiction scale-short version and generalized anxiety disorder-7. Results: The present study reported 66% of students were smartphone addicted (55% males, 46% females), and 46% of students were using smartphone more than 6 h per day. Seventy percent of students were using smartphone >5 years. In this study, 67% of addicted students were having anxiety. Sixty-one percent of addicted students were found in 25–30 years of age group which is higher than 18–24 years of age group (only 39% of students were addicted). Twenty-one percent of addicted students were having dry eye syndrome. Twenty-one percent of addicted students were found overweight and obese. Conclusions: The prevalence of PSU was quite high among the college students and maximum students reported anxiety and dry eye syndrome. It is necessity of today’s era to develop awareness regarding PSU and its negative impact on physical as well as mental health.

Abstract Time series analysis and prediction have attained significant attention from the research community in the past few decades. However, the prediction accuracy of the models highly depends on the models’ learning process. In order to optimize resource usage, a better learning methodology, in terms of accuracy and learning time, is needed. In this context, the current research work proposes EvoLearn, a novel method to improve and optimize the learning process of neural-based models. The presented technique integrates the genetic algorithm with back-propagation to train model weights during the learning process. The fundamental idea behind the proposed work is to select the best components from multiple models during the training process to obtain an adequate model. To demonstrate the applicability of EvoLearn, the method is tested on the state-of-the-art neural models (namely MLP, DNN, CNN, RNN, and GRU), and performances are compared. Furthermore, the presented study aims to forecast two types of time series, i.e. air pollution and energy consumption time series, using the developed framework. In addition, the considered neural models are tested on two datasets of each time series type. From the performance comparison and evaluation of EvoLearn using a one-tailed paired T-test against the conventional back-propagation-based learning approach, it was found that the proposed method significantly improves the prediction accuracy.

Urban and regional planning faces unprecedented challenges in the 21st century, ranging from rapid urbanization and population growth to climate change and resource depletion. In addressing these challenges, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative toolset for planners, offering advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and optimization capabilities. In this paper, the author discusses how artificial intelligence can be integrated into urban and regional planning in India’s socio-economic landscape. It highlights the use of machine learning to predict future trends and interpret complex data sets, geospatial analysis using various AI-powered tools for spatial planning, as well as Natural Language Processing for data mining. As a way of understanding and improving urban infrastructure, deep learning techniques can be used in urban image analysis and agent-based modeling along with urban simulation for better prediction and decision-making. Nevertheless, a great number of actors make it difficult to implement such techniques locally such as the absence of valuable local data, limited infrastructure facilities, professional knowledge gaps among employees and their poor integration into existing planning processes. The article strongly stresses institutional capacity building, interagency cooperation through governance structures and open data initiatives. Importantly, there has been an indication that the Indian government is committed to artificial intelligence based on various initiatives and policies showing its willingness to embrace these technologies despite their minimal direct application in Indian urban and regional development so far .

Abstract Introduction There is currently a lack of research regarding disease course and burden as well as treatment patterns and goals in patients with non-segmental vitiligo (NSV). The aim of this analysis was to evaluate disease course, treatment patterns and goals in patients with NSV. Methods This analysis used secondary data from the Adelphi Real World Vitiligo Disease Specific Programme™ 2021, specifically, a survey of physicians and their adult and adolescent patients with NSV. Physicians categorized patients by the extent of NSV at time of survey completion as mild, moderate or severe/very severe. Physician-reported patient information included demographics, current/previously prescribed NSV therapies, treatment satisfaction and the Vitiligo Noticeability Scale (VNS). Patients completed a survey on treatment satisfaction and the VNS. Treatment pattern data were stratified by disease extent and Fitzpatrick skin type. Results At survey completion, physicians reported that 38, 50 and 12% of patients (N = 1865) had improving, stable and deteriorating/progressing disease, respectively. Most patients (96%) with mild disease at treatment initiation still had mild disease at the time of survey completion. More than half of patients with moderate disease (62%) or severe/very severe disease (57%) at treatment initiation still had moderate or severe/very severe disease at survey completion. Topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs) were the most common treatment in 40% of patients followed by phototherapy in 30%. Patients hoped for re-pigmentation (mild 56%, moderate 62%, severe/very severe 66%), reduction (mild 50%, moderate 56%, severe/very severe 49%) or cessation of affected areas with vitiligo (mild 48%, moderate 54%, severe/very severe 43%). Conclusion The study findings indicate that a significant proportion of patients with NSV are not improving on current treatments, most commonly TCIs and phototherapy. The results highlight the unmet need for novel and effective therapies to substantially improve re-pigmentation, an important treatment goal for patients with NSV.

Abstract The ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (COVISHIELD) vaccine has emerged as a pivotal tool in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In our previous study eligible subjects were supplemented with calcifediol, a direct precursor to the biologically active form of vitamin D, calcitriol with an objective to enhance the immunogenicity of the COVISHIELD vaccine. Herein we investigated the effects of calcifediol supplementation on gene expression profiles in individuals who received the COVISHIELD vaccine. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from vaccinated individuals with and without calcifediol supplementation at baseline, 3rd and 6th month, and the gene expression profiles were analyzed using high-throughput sequencing. The results revealed distinct patterns of gene expression associated with calcifediol supplementation, suggesting potential molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of calcifediol in improving the efficacy of COVISHIELD vaccine via augmentation of T cell activation, proliferation and T cell memory responses. Additionally, there was upregulation of NOD like receptor, JAK/STAT and TGF beta signaling pathways. Calcifediol supplementation in vaccinated individuals also downregulated the pathways related to the Coronavirus disease. Taken together, our findings provide valuable insights into the interplay between vitamin D receptor (VDR) signaling and vaccine-induced immune responses and offer another approach in improving vaccination induced antiviral responses.

Abstract Introduction Vitiligo was historically regarded as a cosmetic disorder; however, it is an autoimmune disease. As a visible condition, it affects patient well-being. We assessed the impact of disease severity, lesion location, and body surface area (BSA) affected on patient health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Methods Retrospective data were from the Adelphi Real World Vitiligo Disease Specific Programme: a cross-sectional survey of physicians and their patients with vitiligo (10/2021–07/2022). Patient-reported outcomes were assessed by the Vitiligo-Specific Quality of Life Instrument (VitiQoL), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and EQ-5D-5L. The Work Productivity and Impairment Questionnaire (WPAI) questionnaire was used to assess disease-related impairment of daily activities. Data were stratified by physician-reported disease severity, presence/absence of vitiligo on the face, and BSA percentage affected. Results In total, 1388 patients were included. Mean (SD) VitiQoL, HADS depression, and anxiety scores were higher for those with severe disease [40.5 (26.1), 5.2 (4.4), and 6.8 (4.7)] than those with mild [24.8 (18.8), 3.6 (3.8), 4.2 (3.8)] or moderate [27.1 (22.6), 3.8 (4.5), 4.3 (4.4)] disease. Patients with face affected reported higher VitiQoL [30.0 (22.3) versus 23.2 (19.3)], and HADS scores [depression, 4.3 (4.3) versus 3.2 (3.9); anxiety, 5.0 (4.3) versus 3.8 (3.9)] than those without. Patients with ≥ 5% BSA affected had higher VitiQoL, depression and anxiety scores [27.9 (21.8), 4.0 (4.4), and 4.5 (4.2)] than those with 0–5% [24.6 (19.7), 3.4 (3.7), and 4.3 (4.1)]. Patients with severe vitiligo, facial lesions, or ≥ 5% BSA reported higher activity impairment. Mean EQ-5D-5L-utility score was approximately 0.9 regardless of disease severity or total BSA affected. Conclusions These data demonstrate the impact disease severity can have on HRQoL and daily activities for patients with vitiligo. Lesions that are more severe, on the face, or covering a greater BSA are more often associated with poorer outcomes and activity impairment. These data also highlight the potential insensitivity of commonly used HRQoL measures and a need for more sensitive disease-specific measures.

Abstract Objective The primary objective of this research was to use qualitative methods to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and confidence of caregivers in their ability to provide oral hygiene assistance to residents. The secondary objective was to assess the knowledge and attitude of administrators on the provision of oral hygiene assistance for residents, and their confidence in caregivers’ ability to provide oral hygiene assistance to nursing home residents in San Antonio, Texas. Methods A semi-structured interview guide was used to conduct face-to-face interviews with seven caregivers and twelve administrative staff from ten nursing homes in San Antonio, Texas. Employees in nursing homes who are caring for residents are referred to as caregivers and those whom they care for are referred to as nursing home residents. One survey instrument was developed for the caregiver’s knowledge, attitude, and confidence toward providing oral health care, and another to assess the administrator’s knowledge, attitude, and confidence in caregivers providing oral care for nursing home residents. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and coded for thematic content. Results The findings revealed that caregivers and administrators had adequate knowledge of the connection between oral and systemic health. The administrators were confident that caregivers were adequately trained to provide oral hygiene care for residents. Caregivers had a positive attitude toward the importance of good oral health. They regularly assessed the residents’ oral health, but due to time constraints, staffing shortages, and other competing tasks providing oral health care to the residents was challenging. Most caregivers were confident in their skills in providing oral care for the residents since 85.6% agreed. On the contrary, almost half of the administrators were confident that caregivers have the necessary skills to provide oral care for residents, while 41.7% were unsure. Conclusions The study gave a broader insight into the provision of oral care in nursing home residents from the perspectives of caregivers and administrative staff. Administrators must provide caregivers with adequate training and time so they can provide adequate oral health care for the residents.

Microwave coagulation therapy (MCT) is emerging as an attractive modality for thermal therapy of soft tissues targeted in short periods of time, making it particularly suitable for ablation of hepatic and other tumors. In this field of microwave coagulation therapy, the use of minimally invasive antenna is recognized as a very promising technique for the treatment of small tumors because a very thin antenna can be easily inserted inside the body and precisely localized using the advanced 3D imaging techniques and surgical robots. The authors investigated the microwave coaxial antenna operating at 2.45 GHz by varying the slots size for the removal of liver tumor. The analysis was done using 2D finite element modeling. By several optimization steps the antenna is simulated and optimized by comparing the values of specific absorption rate (SAR), mesh statistics and temperature distributions in tissue generated by the antenna with the variations of dimensions of slot from 1 mm to 1.7 mm.

Introduction Schizophrenia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are psychiatric disorders that have a profound impact on patients and healthcare systems globally. There is preliminary evidence suggesting a potential association between the two in terms of symptomatology and genetic underpinning. There is a paucity of guidance regarding pharmacological approaches for patients with comorbid ADHD and schizophrenia. There is a concern that psychostimulants may be more harmful than therapeutic. This scoping review protocol aims to systematically review the evidence for potential harm and benefit of psychostimulants among patients with comorbid ADHD and schizophrenia and identify research gaps.Methods and analysis This scoping review will employ a systematic and iterative approach to identify and synthesise the literature on the topic of psychostimulant use among patients with comorbid schizophrenia and ADHD, based on Arksey and O’Malley’s framework. A search will be conducted in relevant databases, including MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), PsycINFO and ISI Web of Science. Additionally, grey literature will be sought. The scoping review will involve two independent reviewers screening the search results. The initial screen will be of title and abstract, and the subsequent full-text review will determine eligibility. A descriptive overview of the eligible studies will be provided. This scoping review has been registered at https://osf.io/cmn5s.Ethics and dissemination There is a paucity of high-quality evidence available to clinicians when making decisions regarding the prescription of psychostimulants to patients with comorbid schizophrenia and ADHD. To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first scoping review to examine the evidence addressing this clinical scenario. This review, therefore, has the potential to contribute to decision-making processes for this patient group, thereby improving patient outcomes. Furthermore, as this review is designed to identify research gaps, we aim to contribute to the development of a research agenda that will benefit patients, clinicians and healthcare systems. The dissemination strategy will involve open access peer review publication and scientific presentations.

Aberrant attentional salience has been implicated in the cannabis-psychosis association. Here, history and frequency of cannabis use were examined against changes in overshadowing (OS), a cue competition paradigm that involves salience processing. Additionally, we examined the association between OS and alternative measures of aberrant salience, as well as schizotypy, in a non-clinical adult sample.280 participants completed an online geometry learning-based OS task, while a subset (N = 149) also completed the Salience Attribution Task (SAT) measure of aberrant salience. All completed the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ), Aberrant Salience Inventory (ASI), and the modified Cannabis Experience Questionnaire (CEQmv). Differences across OS and SAT performance stages and between cannabis use groups were assessed using mixed ANOVAs. Multiple regression and correlational analyses assessed the relationships between OS and SAT task metrics and SPQ and ASI subscale scores.Current cannabis users had significantly lower OS scores during the testing phase relative to those who do not use cannabis, at medium effect sizes. Schizotypy or ASI scores did not mediate this relationship. In the SAT, current cannabis users presented significantly higher implicit aberrant salience relative to non-users. Scores in the first training phase of the OS task significantly predicted higher explicit aberrant and adaptive salience scores in the SAT.These data indicate an association between regular cannabis use and abnormalities in cue competition effects in a healthy adult sample. Comparisons of OS and SAT cast new light on putative overlapping mechanisms underlying performance across different measures of salience.
