- Abstract
Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI), also known as heart attack, is a serious and potentially fatal medical condition that occurs due to interruption of blood flow to a part of the heart muscle, which causes a decrease in oxygen supply and nutrients to the heart muscle. In this context, the incidence of AMI may vary throughout the year, with evidence pointing to a relationship with seasonality. Objective: To carry out a literature review regarding the fluctuation in the incidence of AMI according to the seasons, identifying possible factors associated with these variations. Methodology: This is an integrative review, carried out by searching the electronic databases PubMed, Scielo and Google Academics, using the descriptors "Myocardial Infarction", "Seasonal Variation", "Winter" and "Summer", using the Boolean operator "AND".Conclusion: Temperature can be a risk factor for AMI, as the occurrence tends to be more common in winter, due to increased cardiac effort and changes in blood clotting. However, extreme heat in Summer can cause cardiac stress as well, sensitivity to temperature varies among individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
