1. OpenTwins: An open-source framework for the design, development and integration of effective 3D-IoT-AI-powered digital twins

Abstract

Although digital twins have recently emerged as a clear alternative for reliable asset representations, most of the solutions and tools available for the development of digital twins are tailored to specific environments. Furthermore, achieving reliable digital twins often requires the orchestration of technologies and paradigms such as machine learning, the Internet of Things, and 3D visualization, which are rarely seamlessly aligned. In this paper, we present a generic framework for the development of effective digital twins combining some of the aforementioned areas. In this open framework, digital twins can be easily developed and orchestrated with 3D connected visualizations, IoT data streams, and real-time machine-learning predictions. To demonstrate the feasibility of the framework, a use case in the Petrochemical Industry 4.0 has been developed.

6. Providing reliability and auditability to the IoT LwM2M protocol through Blockchain

Abstract

Blockchain has come to provide transparency, reliability as well as to increase the security in computer systems, especially in distributed ones like the Internet of Things (IoT). A few integrations have been proposed in this context so far; however, most of these solutions do not pay special attention to the interoperability of the IoT, one of the biggest challenges in this field. In this paper, a Blockchain solution has been integrated into the OMA Lightweight M2M (LwM2M), a promising industry IoT protocol for global interoperability. This integration provides reliability and auditability to the LwM2M protocol enabling IoT devices (LwM2M clients) to transparently interact with the protocol. Furthermore, a missing reliable API to allow users and applications to securely interact with the system and an interface to store critical information like anomalies for auditability have been defined., Comment: 13 pages, 14 figures

Abstract

Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have a dependency on data sources to train, improve and make predictions through their algorithms. With the digital revolution and current paradigms like the Internet of Things, this information is turning from static data into continuous data streams. However, most of the ML/AI frameworks used nowadays are not fully prepared for this revolution. In this paper, we proposed Kafka-ML, an open-source framework that enables the management of TensorFlow ML/AI pipelines through data streams (Apache Kafka). Kafka-ML provides an accessible and user-friendly Web User Interface where users can easily define ML models, to then train, evaluate and deploy them for inference. Kafka-ML itself and its deployed components are fully managed through containerization technologies, which ensure its portability and easy distribution and other features such as fault-tolerance and high availability. Finally, a novel approach has been introduced to manage and reuse data streams, which may lead to the (no) utilization of data storage and file systems., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

Este trabajo nace del interés personal en estudiar la manera en que las personas habitan los espacios construidos, dado que, desde una perspectiva propia, la enseñanza de la arquitectura mayormente se centra en el arquitecto, en la obra y en calidad de los espacios, sin examinar en profundidad ni considerar parte del proyecto la manera en que las personas habitan dichos espacios. Se plantea entonces, un estudio que pueda estructurarse a partir de experiencias propias, vivencias, opiniones, pensamientos, fotografías y documentación de aquellos que habitan los espacios proyectados. Las perspectivas, la historia y los elementos concretos del imaginario de cada uno, sus fragmentos más íntimos, su entorno arquitectónico más personal, son los objetos de estudio en este trabajo. Comprender que los procesos de cambio son diferentes según los contextos vividos; entender que, la arquitectura, se transforma a raíz de los cambios sociales y por consiguiente de las personas. Debido a la subjetividad de la información que podía llegar a recopilarse de los diferentes casos, ya que se buscaba un estudio o análisis vivencial, se acotó el margen de estudio concretando un contexto arquitectónico similar, para poder establecer un punto de partida idéntico en todos los casos . La intención de estudiar el comportamiento de las personas en un espacio habitacional idéntico, decantó en estudiar la tipologia de vivienda social, donde se tipifica el individuo y se proyecta de manera no específica. Las “Casas Baratas de Bon Pastor” debido a su contexto de construcción, su tipología modular, su disposición en planta baja y el perfil de individuo para el que se proyectaban estos espacios, cumplían las bases de estudios autoimpuestas. El presente estudio plasma una realidad habitada y volátil y deja constancia, a través de un fotograma actual, de unas rutinas ya en proceso de desvanecimiento. Reconstruye con la memoria, de la mano de sus habitantes y desde sus diferentes perspectivas.

Abstract

Aurivela longicauda is an endemic lizard from the Monte Desert region of western Argentina. It is an agile lizard that is typically observed during the warm hours of the day, where it inhabits sedimentary sand or dunes with a few shrubs and scattered ground vegetation. The aim of this note is to report an observation of an A. longicauda being preyed upon by an Argentine dwarf spider, Grammostola mendozae. The predation of vertebrates by arthropods is documented worldwide. The predation event was recorded in Talampaya National Park (TNP), located in an extensive plain of the Monte region (29.8°S, 67.833°W, WGS 84; 1300 m elev.) in the center-west of La Rioja Province (Argentina), which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. At 1310 h on 11 November, during pitfall trap surveys in TNP, we found the spider feeding on the right portion of the skull, including the right eye, of an adult A. longicauda. After a few minutes, the spider dragged the lizard for a few centimeters and let it go. The lizard was collected and housed at Museo de La Plata Herpetological Collection.
