6. Persistence of symmetry-protected Dirac points at the surface of the topological crystalline insulator SnTe upon impurity doping

Abstract

We investigate the effect of a non-magnetic donor impurity located at the surface of the SnTe topological crystalline insulator. In particular, the changes on the surface states due to a Sb impurity atom are analyzed by means of ab initio simulations of pristine and impurity-doped SnTe. Both semi-infinite and slab geometries are considered within the first-principles approach. Furthermore, minimal and Green's function continuum models are proposed with the same goal. We find that the Dirac cones are shifted down in energy upon doping; this shift strongly depends on the position of the impurity with respect to the surface. In addition, we observe that the width of the impurity band presents an even-odd behavior by varying the position of the impurity. This behavior is related to the position of the nodes of the wave function with respect to the surface, and hence it is a manifestation of confinement effects. We compare slab and semi-infinite geometries within the ab initio approach, demonstrating that the surface states remain gapless and their spin textures are unaltered in the doped semi-infinite system. In the slab geometry, a gap opens due to hybridization of the states localized at opposite surfaces. Finally, by means of a continuum model, we extrapolate our results to arbitrary positions of the impurity, clearly showing a non-monotonic behavior of the Dirac cone., Comment: Paper published as Open Access

8. Systematic Mapping: Educational and Social Entrepreneurship Innovations (2015-2020)

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze recent publications (2015-2020) that refer to educational and social entrepreneurship to identify the primary emerging themes and gaps of entrepreneurship research and management that would be helpful for future studies and entrepreneurial ventures. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used systematic mapping to review 92 research articles that address educational innovation and social entrepreneurship. All the articles were published between 2015 and January 2020 and were found in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. Findings: The data analysis identified the following: the articles most frequently cited, the journals that published the highest number of relevant articles, the geographical distribution of these publications and their authors, the context of the research, the lines and themes that emerged, and the gaps in the literature regarding the research and management of educational and social entrepreneurship. Research limitations/implications: The search for articles was limited to educational and social entrepreneurship innovations and the English language; thus, studies published in other languages were not analyzed. Originality/value: The analysis of this research allowed us to review concepts and identify research methods employed and thematic lines analyzed. Therefore, the work is of value for educational and social entrepreneurs and researchers who wish to examine such concepts or focus on areas not yet fully explored.

Abstract

This paper explores the educational and communicative values found in the journalistic production of the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Values that are little known in communication and which in education have been erroneously reduced to the child environment. In both cases these values have their origin in the humanist thought of the author. It´s a personal conception that the writer reflected in his journalism and developed in his literature, especially in Le Petit Prince, a book that is an educational literary reference. This paper has been carried out with a qualitative methodology and based on the journalistic stories that Saint-Exupéry published in the French press. This article has a historical perspective, for the object of study, as well as current, since it investigates issues of interest at present from an interdisciplinary approach., Este trabajo analiza los valores educativos y comunicativos que se encuentran en la obra periodística del escritor francés Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Valores apenas conocidos en el caso de la comunicación o erróneamente reducidos al ámbito infantil en el de la educación y que tienen su origen en el pensamiento humanista del autor. Se trata de una concepción propia que el escritor recogió en su periodismo y que desarrolló en su obra literaria, especialmente en Le Petit Prince, tomada a menudo como referente literario en el ámbito educativo. Con una metodología cualitativa, y a partir de los textos que Saint-Exupéry publicó en la prensa francesa de su época, este trabajo parte de una perspectiva tanto histórica, por el contexto del objeto de estudio, como actual, ya que indaga en cuestiones vigentes desde un planteamiento interdisciplinar., Cet article académique analyse les valeurs éducatives et communicatives que l’on retrouve dans le journalisme de l’écrivain Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Valeurs à peine connues dans le cas de la communication ou à tort réduites au domaine de l’éducation des enfants et qui trouvent leur origine dans la pensée humaniste de l’auteur. Il s’agit d’une conception propre que l’écrivain recueille dans son journalisme et qu’il développe dans son œuvre littéraire, notamment dans Le Petit Prince, souvent prise comme référence littéraire dans le domaine éducatif. Avec une méthodologie qualitative, et à partir des textes que Saint-Exupéry publia dans la presse française de son temps, cette recherche s’inscrit dans une perspective tant historique qu’actuelle, puisqu’il explore des questions actuelles dans une approche interdisciplinaire.

38. Media accountability in the age of social media: participatory transparency of the audience in Spain

Abstract

The mass media is increasingly promoting public participation. Taking as a starting point the participatory transparency concept enunciated by Karlsson (2010), our research studies the audience’s active role in holding Spanish media to account through a range of online tools. We study the role of the audience by analyzing the perceptions of two main actors: journalists and citizens. A two-fold methodology was adopted: a questionnaire survey of 228 active journalists in Spain and six focus group panels with media users. The main results show that the journalists are not optimistic about the effectiveness of accountability instruments used by the audience.
