The problem of health and care of people is being revolutionized. An important component of that revolution is disease prevention and health improvement from home. A natural approach to the health problem is monitoring changes in people's behavior or activities. These changes can be indicators of potential health problems. However, due to a person's daily pattern, changes will be observed throughout each day, with, eg, an increase of events around meal times and fewer events during the night. We do not wish to detect such within-day changes but rather changes in the daily behavior pattern from one day to the next. To this end, we assume the set of event times within a given day as a single observation. We model this observation as the realization of an inhomogeneous Poisson process where the rate function can vary with the time of day. Then, we propose to detect changes in the sequence of inhomogeneous Poisson processes. This approach is appropriate for many phenomena, particularly for home activity data. Our methodology is evaluated on simulated data. Overall, our approach uses local change information to detect changes across days. At the same time, it allows us to visualize and interpret the results, changes, and trends over time, allowing the detection of potential health decline., (© The Author(s) 2024. Background: There are no validated instruments in Spain for measuring parental feeding styles. The aim was to validate the Parental Feeding Styles Questionnaires (PFSQ) in a Spanish sample., Method: A total of 523 mothers of 523 school-children participated. The children had a mean age of 4.4 years (SD = 1.3), with 51% being boys (M = 4.3 years, SD = 1.4) and 49% girls (M = 4.5 years, = SD 1.3). The PFSQ and the Comprehensive General Parenting Styles Questionnaire (CGPQ) were used., Results: A model of four correlated factors was identified: Prompting/encouraging eating, emotional feeding, instrumental feeding, and control over eating. Cronbach's alpha for the subscales ranged from 0.64 to 0.86, and McDonald's Omega coefficient ranged from 0.66 to 0.86. Emotional feeding and prompting/encouraging eating had values above 0.70, control over eating had a value of 0.68 and instrumental feeding had an alpha coefficient of 0.64 and omega coefficient of 0.66. The factor structure was similar to the original and to other adapted versions. The Spanish sample used more control over eating and prompting/encouraging to eat., Conclusions: The adapted PFSQ is a suitable instrument for assessing the feeding styles of Spanish parents.

The relationship between particle exposure and health risks has been well established in recent years. Particulate matter (PM) is made up of different components coming from several sources, which might have different level of toxicity. Hence, identifying these sources is an important task in order to implement effective policies to improve air quality and population health. The problem of identifying sources of particulate pollution has already been studied in the literature. However, current methods require an a priori specification of the number of sources and do not include information on covariates in the source allocations. Here, we propose a novel Bayesian nonparametric approach to overcome these limitations. In particular, we model source contribution using a Dirichlet process as a prior for source profiles, which allows us to estimate the number of components that contribute to particle concentration rather than fixing this number beforehand. To better characterize them we also include meteorological variables (wind speed and direction) as covariates within the allocation process via a flexible Gaussian kernel. We apply the model to apportion particle number size distribution measured near London Gatwick Airport (UK) in 2019. The purpose of our research was to explore the role of both parents' use of behavioural regulation with food and children's emotional self-regulation in young children with and without overweight/obesity. For this purpose, 123 participants ( n = 62 boys and n = 61 girls) were recruited and classified into two groups by their Body Mass Index (BMI, non-overweight vs. overweight/obese) and into two age groups (four years and seven years). The children's parents/primary caregivers completed two scales of the Childhood Obesogenic Behaviours' Questionnaire (COBQ). The participants were measured and weighed to calculate their BMI to identify overweight, obesity, and non-overweight. The results showed that the means for children who were obese/overweight were significantly higher than those of children who were non-overweight for both the parents' behavioural regulation scale (non-overweight: M = 1.80, SD = 0.69; overweight/obesity: M = 2.94, SD = 0.85) and the child's emotional overeating scale (non-overweight: M = 1.47, SD = 0.56; overweight/obesity: M = 2.65, SD = 0.87). No statistically significant differences were found related to age (4 and 7 years), indicating that the potential impact of obesogenic behaviours starts early in development. Similarly, no differences by gender were found. Due to the implications of obesity for physical and mental health, and the high probability of maintaining this overweight status in the long term, family-based interventions to prevent obesity are highly advisable from birth.

We address the problem of trend estimation for functional time series. Existing contributions either deal with detecting a functional trend or assuming a simple model. They consider neither the estimation of a general functional trend nor the analysis of functional time series with a functional trend component. Similarly to univariate time series, we propose an alternative methodology to analyze functional time series, taking into account a functional trend component. We propose to estimate the functional trend by using a tensor product surface that is easy to implement, to interpret, and allows to control the smoothness properties of the estimator. Through a Monte Carlo study, we simulate different scenarios of functional processes to show that our estimator accurately identifies the functional trend component. We also show that the dependency structure of the estimated stationary time series component is not significantly affected by the error approximation of the functional trend component. Introduction: Urban air pollution is a major threat to child and adolescent health. Children are more vulnerable to its effects, being associated with higher morbidity and mortality due to acute and chronic diseases, especially respiratory ones. A study is performed on the relationship between urban air pollution and the rate of hospital admissions due to acute respiratory diseases., Patients and Methods: An ecological study was conducted on young people under 17 years-old in the city of Murcia, who had visited hospital emergency departments due to respiratory diseases (ICD-9) during 2015. A logistic regression was performed on the risk of hospital admission that included consultations in relation to the average daily levels of environmental pollutants (NO 2 , O 3 , PM10, SO 2 ) obtained from the Air Quality Surveillance and Control network of the Region of Murcia. Other control variables, such as gender, age, average daily ambient temperature, and season of the year., Results: A total of 12,354 (56% boys and 44% girls) children consulted in the emergency department for respiratory disease. Of those, 3.5% were admitted, with a mean age of 2.54 (95% CI; 2.16-2.91) years. The odds ratio (OR) of hospital admission for respiratory diseases: NO 2 1.02 (95% CI; 1.01-1.04; P<.01), O 3 1.01 (95% CI; 1.00-1.03; P<.01) male 1.4 (95% CI 1.11-1.79; P<.01) and winter 2.10 (95% CI 1.40-3.21; P<.01). Admissions for asthma: PM10 1.02 (95% CI; 1.01-1.04; P<.05), O 3 1.04 (95% CI; 1.01-1.06; P<.01). Admissions for bronchiolitis: Age 0.69 (95% CI; 0.48-0.99; P<.05); NO 2 1.03 (95% CI; 1.01-1.05; P<.01)., Conclusions: Urban air pollution increases hospital admissions in children due to acute respiratory diseases, especially asthma and bronchiolitis. Implementing preventive measures, expanding time series and collaborative studies with open data, would help improve public health and air quality in the cities., (Copyright © 2020. Glutamate, the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate Central Nervous System, is involved in almost every aspect of brain physiology, and its signaling properties are severely affected in most neurodegenerative diseases. This neurotransmitter has to be efficiently removed from the synaptic cleft in order to prevent an over-stimulation of glutamate receptors that leads to neuronal death. Specific sodium-dependent membrane transporters, highly enriched in glial cells, elicit the clearance of glutamate. Once internalized, it is metabolized to glutamine by the glia-enriched enzyme Glutamine synthetase. Accumulated glutamine is released into the extracellular space for its uptake into pre-synaptic neurons and its conversion to glutamate that is packed into synaptic vesicles completing the glutamate/glutamine cycle. Diverse chemical compounds, like organophosphates, directly affect brain chemistry by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft. Organophosphate compounds are widely used as pesticides, and all living organisms are continuously exposed to these substances, either in a direct or indirect manner. Its metabolites, like the diethyl dithiophosphate, are capable of causing brain damage through diverse mechanisms including perturbation of neuronal-glial cell interactions and have been associated with attention-deficit disorders and other mental illness. In order to characterize the neurotoxic mechanisms of diethyl dithiophosphate, we took advantage of the well characterized model of chick cerebellar Bergmann glia cultures. A significant impairment of [ 3 H] d-Aspartate transport was found upon exposure to the metabolite. These results indicate that glia cells are targets of neurotoxic substances such as pesticides and that these cells might be critically involved in the associated neuronal death., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. The Nuclear Cardiology is the Cardiology branch used with diagnosis proposes, it is based in the use of radiotracers which are administrated intravenous pathways to the patient, this kind of drug is traced over the body using a gammacamera to create functional images. Some of the radiotracers used are: Thallium 201, 99mTC MIBI and 99mTc - Tetrofosmin. According to each drug characterstics, there are specific protocols that help us obtaining useful and reliables images for ischemic patient evaluation and diagnosis. It is necessary to practice stress test to the patients who are going to be examined using radiotracers. Physical or pharmacological stress tests can be used to find ischemic regions of myocardium. Nuclear cardiology is a large branch that needs the active participation of several kinds of professionals, nurses are now integrated to give patients high quality care, with a special and professional attitude by solving all procedure questions.
