Abstract

The RAMO network is the fundamental tool for operating the technical environment equipment of telecommunications centres which concern the power supply, cooling system, building surveillance, access control, security, EMC and electrostatic environment. It implements functions which make it possible to analyse the quality of the equipment's performance in operation, to precisely identify equipment failures to reduce their mean time to repair. The type of equipment included in this network varies depending on the size of the centre which houses it. It comprises the power supply systems, consisting of an electrical generator, an AC distribution cabinet, a conversion and power storage cabinet from the Alfatel range, catering for all power requirements from 2.5 kVA to 60 kVA, and from the Geode range for power greater than 100 kVA, together with the cooling systems and uninterruptible power supplies. The networking of all these items of equipment on an X.25 protocol using France Telecom's operating architecture comprises the RAMO network. Upprättat; 1993; 20070109 (ysko)

Abstract

Following a general presentation of the system architectures for two types of reliable energy stations, GEODE and ALFATEL, used in telecommunication facilities, the authors describe the concept of a centralized management system covering several energy stations situated at different geographical locations. The role of communication with the power supply station monitoring units is then described. This makes it possible to define the functions carried out by the management unit, some of which may be operated through remote control by staff on standby duty. Abstract

This paper reports the implementation of a concept-mapping activity in an online graduate course delivered entirely at a distance, in the domain of cognitive science. After having read some instructional texts, each student has to draw a concept map and to “explain” it in a narrative format. Most students use an object-oriented modeling tool (called MOT) to draw their map, which is available on the course web site. We describe the activity and present results of an exploratory analysis of the students' maps based on an “analysis in systems” approach stemming from cognitive semantic theories. In conclusion, some research issues are outlined.; Nous décrivons une expérimentation de construction de cartes conceptuelles par des étudiants adultes dans un cours universitaire en sciences cognitives diffusé en ligne dans un contexte de formation à distance. Chaque étudiant est invité à élaborer une carte conceptuelle après lecture de textes. Les cartes conceptuelles sont réalisées à l'aide du logiciel MOT, permettant une représentation graphique des connaissances selon une technique de modélisation par objets typés. Les étudiants rédigent aussi un texte explicatif de leur carte. L'article présente le déroulement de cette activité et les résultats d'une analyse exploratoire des cartes produites par les étudiants, notamment selon une approche d'analyse en systèmes issue de la sémantique cognitive. Sur cette base, quelques pistes de recherche visant l'amélioration de l'efficacité pédagogique de l'activité sont proposées.
