O artigo examina o revestimento arquitetônico exterior em azulejo, conforme adotado nas cidades portuguesas, desde o século XIX até os nossos dias, enquanto traje do espaço urbano edificado. A partir de uma abordagem que articula perspectivas da História da Arte e socioantropológicas, o artigo atenta à literatura específica e à observação das manifestações de uma dada cultura material e artística para demonstrar o argumento de reflexão. Discute-se o revestimento azulejar como uma oportunidade para apreciar o mundo social, um espelho que reflete determinadas continuidades e mudanças da sociedade urbana ao longo do tempo, através do (re)vestir dos artefatos construídos da cidade.

Organizado na sequência do volume dedicado ao tema “Corpo RE(des)Coberto”, o presente dossiê – “Cidade (RE)vestida” – apresenta seis artigos que abordam a cidade a partir das múltiplas “peles” que a recobrem. O “corpo citadino” é analisado através das representações e não-representações em festas, paisagens, ambiências, identidades, arquétipos, estereótipos, contradições, personagens, estilos, estéticas, políticas, modos e modas com que a cidade se mostra em diversos espaços e tempos. Através de um enfoque multidisciplinar, visa-se prosseguir, aprofundar e ampliar a linha de pesquisa sobre a relação corpo-vestimenta-cidade (MAIA, 2021), expondo relações forjadas no âmbito citadino que contribuem para a atração, inserção ou o expurgo de determinados sujeitos sociais, para a ampliação e afirmação ou restrição e negação de seu protagonismo político, bem como para a valorização ou obsolescência de dado espaço e/ou área urbana num contexto em que, cada vez mais, a cidade é tomada como uma mercadoria, mas sem perder a sua proteiformidade. Apresentamos neste dossiê uma série de textos que abordam o CORPO “RE(des)COBERTO”, pondo em debate as vestimentas, as roupas, os trajes, as fantasias, a moda e os múltiplos suplementos que o transformam e ajustam, libertam e controlam, personalizam e uniformizam, traduzindo sistemas de representações, identidades e modos de ser/estar no espaço-tempo. Toma-se a corporeidade humana a partir das relações culturais, econômicas, políticas, existenciais, religiosas, bem como das determinações impostas pela natureza, pelas práticas que visam a segurança, o bem-estar e/ou a preservação da saúde. Todas atravessam a cotidianidade, sendo observadas nos mais diversos rituais festivos, nos eventos de marketing e naqueles praticados nos espaços públicos ou no contexto privado, muitas vezes pensados como se se fossem “só nossos”, mas que na verdade são práticas sociais.

Neste artigo são abordados materiais de construção cuja aplicação remete para diferentes tempos e usos no património edificado, e que são indissociáveis dos gostos e das influências culturais na arquitetura de cada local. Alguns dos materiais apresentados, como a cal e o gesso, têm um historial de longevidade e durabilidade que é um desafio constante para os materiais mais modernos, como o cimento. Os materiais históricos nas edificações centenárias, por vezes milenares, resistiram a adversidades diversas, como cheias, incêndios ou terramotos e, mais recentemente, à ação humana que, numa tentativa de adaptação a usos e requisitos modernos de moda, tecnologia e conforto, por vezes esquece e extravasa práticas de manutenção, conservação e reabilitação compatíveis. O artigo chama a atenção do leitor para as componentes tangível e intangível dos materiais de construção usados no património histórico arquitetónico, não esquecendo a importância dos saberes técnicos e do diálogo entre campos científicos para que este património possa perdurar por muitos mais séculos. This article discusses building materials whose application takes us to different times and uses in the built heritage, and which are inseparable from the tastes and cultural influences in the architecture of each location. Some of the materials presented, such as lime and gypsum, have a history of longevity and durability that is a constant challenge for more modern materials, such as cement. Historical materials in century-old, sometimes millenial buildings have resisted diverse adversities, such as floods, fires or earthquakes, and more recently to the human action that, in an attempt to adapt to modern uses and requirements of fashion, technology and comfort, sometimes forgets and goes beyond maintenance, conservation and compatible rehabilitation practices. The article draws the reader’s attention to the tangible and intangible components of the building materials used in the architectural historical heritage, not forgetting the importance of technical knowledge and dialogue between scientific fields so that this heritage may endure for many centuries to come.

This e-book and correspondent platform MyC3Place present the collection of the outcomes carried out by the partners of the C3Places Project.It explores the new dynamics of open spaces as a trusted service for community and expands our understanding on how mediated public open spaces function, paying attention to stakeholders, local context and different social groups. The e-book shows how it's possible to increase the quality of public open spaces (squares, parks, green spaces) as a community’s service, reflecting through ICT the needs of different social groups.

This paper delivers actionable recommendations towards building a rationale for activating and promoting Underground Built Heritage (UBH) based on the nexus heritage, territory and society, and making use of existing literature and findings from five international cases. The research was conducted in the framework of the working group on Planning Approaches of the COST Action Underground4value. The analysis of the cases aims to provide guidelines for this working group and to benchmark good practices in activating UBH. It highlights the importance of community-led initiatives, leadership and dialogue and power sharing between the local/regional authorities and communities aiming for better understanding of the potential of UBH. The successes and/or failures of the five cases emphasise the importance of knowledge and experience in participatory approaches. Success was verified, when effectiveness and democratic principles were combined in the planning process, and local history is integrated with citizen science, co-creation and placemaking. The analysed approaches stimulate a new hybrid layer for activating UBH, provide mechanisms of mediation between people and heritage, and contribute to cultural and social dimensions of sustainability. This is a highly challenging endeavour, as it seeks to support and advance a sound understanding of UBH as a sustainable resource, backed by strategic stakeholder dialogue and contextual knowledge. Such effort requires a dynamic understanding of UBH values, knowledge, abilities and skills, towards creating more effective coalitions of “actors” within localities, by developing structures, which encourage long term collaborative relationships.

This chapter offers theoretical considerations and reflections on technological solutions that contribute to digitally supported documentation, access and reuse of localised heritage content in public spaces. It addresses immaterial cultural heritage, including informal stories that could emerge and be communicated by drawing hyperlinks between digitised assets, such as songs, images, drawings, texts and more, and not yet documented metadata, as well as augmenting interaction opportunities with interactive elements that relate to multiple media stored in databases and archives across Europe. The aim is to enable cultural heritage to be experienced in novel ways, supported by the proliferation of smartphones and ubiquitous Internet access together with new technical means for user profiling, personalisation, localisation, contextawareness and gamification. The chapter considers cyberparks as digitally enhanced public spaces for accessing and analyzing European cultural heritage and for enriching the interpretation of the past, along with theoretical ramifications and technological limitations. It identifies the capacities of a proposed digital environment together with design guidelines for interaction with cultural heritage assets in public spaces. The chapter concludes with describing a taxonomy of digital content that can be used in order to enhance association and occupation conditions of public spaces, and with discussing technological challenges associated with enriching public spaces with localized cultural heritage material. There is an increasing awareness and advocacy claim for engaging the society in the production of public open spaces. This contribution seeks to increase knowledge on the relationship between spaces and the social practices of teenagers, towards a more inclusive and interactive process of public space co-creation. It is based on two European Projects: CyberParks and C3Places, and explores teenagers' spatial practice and needs, and how to engage them in the process of co-creating more sensitive public spaces, while exploring the challenges and opportunities ICT open. It this paper, the results of a case study taking place in Lisbon and the analysis of questionnaires and interviews are discussed.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar e discutir os contextos de algumas “falas” de quem faz a cal, destacando a importância destas “falas” como património intangível. Para efeito, recorre-se a estudos realizados com mestres caleiros no âmbito de projetos de investigação desenvolvidos em Beja (Alentejo/Portugal); explorando ainda alguma da literatura produzida nesta área temática, todavia, privilegiando-se aquela assente em estudos empíricos realizados em Portugal, nomeadamente onde a “voz” do artesão da cal tenha sido expressiva para a compreensão dos processos técnicos tradicionais. Considera-se que o testemunho oral dos artífices da cal pode ser um importante contributo para o ampliar do conhecimento técnico-científico acerca dos processos de produção deste material.

O Laboratorio Nacional de Engenharia Civil e a Câmara Municipal de Beja iniciaram uma colaboracao tecnico-cientifica com o objetivo de contribuir para a inventariacao e a salvaguarda dos fornos de cal - e atividades associadas - como Patrimonio Imaterial. Em linhas gerais, discutem-se os principais objetivos desta cooperacao e os avancos ja conseguidos. Tendo presentes as politicas de conservacao do Patrimonio Cultural, assinala-se o interesse de uma perspetiva de trabalho na interface entre o tangivel e o intangivel.

Resenha do livro Proximo do saber, longe do progresso: historias de uma vila residencial no campus universitario da lha do Fundao, de Leticia Luna Freire, publicado em 2014.

A partir de uma pesquisa online exploratória, discutem-se alguns aspetos contemporâneos da patrimonialização da cultura azulejar. Aponta-se a institucionalização da rede na divulgação do património azulejar, a tendência para um incremento territorial e turístico na divulgação do azulejo integrado na arquitetura, bem como o extravasar do seu uso através do grafismo na arte urbana e na moda, mas também para o aumentar do efeito-denúncia online sobre a destruição do património azulejar. A pesquisa realizada permite ainda salientar alguns aspetos que interessam discutir no futuro desenvolvimento da pesquisa: a tendência para a atual assunção de que o património azulejar está também associado à transformação do azulejo em matérias e significados outros que não o revestimento na arquitetura; o atual papel do efeito online na divulgação do azulejo como matéria de património cuja manifestação assume variados e diferentes suportes; a divulgação transnacional do património azulejar, todavia, como uma manifestação da cultura nacional portuguesa; o quanto o efeito de transmutação do azulejo em outras matérias (tecido, móveis, sabonetes, …) pode, ainda que contraditoriamente, contribuir para divulgar e salvaguardar o património azulejar, mas também para uma espécie de efeito da sua desmaterialização; verificando-se que, num e noutro caso, as suas repercussões online são de assinalar. This paper describes the process of use cases prioritizing by ranking their usefulness to improve water losses, control and water-energy efficiency in networks, to provide new services to the consumer, to improve billing systems and pricing schemes, to improve leak detection and water-energy efficiency and to develop better services to consumers. Results showed that priority use cases were to obtain water consumption data, understand water consumption and assist consumers to increase water use efficiency (consumer domain) and to obtain water and related energy consumption data, understand water consumption and get support to increase operational efficiency (water utility domain).

The chapter discusses how ICT can be used to enhance the understanding of the relationship between space, users and social practices. As an example of possible use of ICT for capturing and better understanding user’s needs, the new digital tool WAY Cyberparks is presented and discussed. A “cyberpark” is defined as a new type of urban landscape where nature and ICTs blend together to generate hybrid experiences and enhance quality of life. The WAY Cyberparks digital tool consists of a smart phone application, server/cloud and web services. Through the experiences from testing it in selected urban open spaces in Barcelona, Lisbon and Ljubljana opportunities are presented and lessons are drawn about relevant aspects of the ICT towards building a more participatory and collaborative process in planning of public spaces. A relevant aspect of the ICT lays in their ability to enhance communication with (potential) users, transforming the production of public open spaces into an interactive process, and enabling creative community participation and empowerment. Furthermore, some challenges of the increasing penetration of digital technologies devices (smart phones, smart watches, tablets, etc.) within the broader context of their use in public urban open spaces such as parks, gardens, squares, plazas are discussed, together with the consequences of this interweaving, which is growing at a rapid pace, unfolds research needs in the future.

Resumo Apresenta-se o Projeto CyberParks para discutir a relação entre o uso de meios digitais (smartphones, conexões wi-fi etc.) em espaços públicos (parques, jardins, praças etc.) e a contribuição das novas tecnologias para qualificar e aumentar a participação de usuários na sua produção e manutenção. CyberParks é guiado pelas questões: (1) Como as Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TIC) afetam o uso do espaço público? (2) Quais são os riscos associados à recente, mas acelerada, dinâmica de difusão das TIC no espaço urbano? (3) Como os usos identificados se enquadram no conceito de sociedade virtual? Em suma, trata-se de investigar a contribuição das TIC na transformação das cidades em contextos mais inclusivos, e não somente mais high tech. O projeto objetiva desvendar o papel das TIC na produção e no desenho de espaços híbridos. Uma premissa é aumentar o conhecimento das possibilidades que as TIC abrem para uma melhor compreensão da forma como as pessoas usam esses espaços. Discutem-se o âmbito e a pertinência da perspectiva de estudo focada na relação entre TIC e espaço público, apresentando objetivos do Projeto CyberParks. Em sequência, problematizam-se algumas das principais linhas de investigação, apresentando os resultados de um estudo de caso desenvolvido em Lisboa, Portugal. Abstract In this paper we use the European research project CyberParks to discuss the relationship between digital media (smart phones, tablets, wi-fi network) and its use in public open spaces (parks, gardens, squares, etc.) and the contribution of the emerging technologies to improve the quality, production, and maintenance of open spaces through more extensive participation by users. The leading questions of CyberParks are: (1) how ICT affect the use of public space; (2) what are the risks associated with an increasing aggregation of ICT into public spaces; and (3) how new uses contribute to a virtual society concept. In summary: how ICT transform our cities into more inclusive places, rather than just higher tech. The projects seeks to better understand the role of ICT in the production and design of public spaces, and what possibilities they open to increase the understanding of how people use public spaces. The reflection discusses the scope and relevance of the relationship between ICT and public space, followed by the key features and objectives of the CyberParks Project. In sequence, some of the main research lines are discussed from the conceptual framework that guides the project, to finally discuss some preliminary results of a case study conducted in Lisbon.
