The conquest of Lisbon, in October 1147, marked a new period for the territories of Islamic al-Ušbūna. The now Christian rulers oversaw the changes within the social fabric of the city through the arrival of new elites and the exodus of part of the previous inhabitants, now perceived as ethnic and religious minorities, alongside the transfer of property and appropriation of space. In these urban processes, as with others, the rare information available underlines the role of the new ecclesiastical authorities in the forefront of a necessary institutionalization. The creation of a parish network was part of the latter, with a cadence and comprehensiveness that are still poorly known. This paper intends to re-evaluate the historical treatment of this question, drawing from existing research and new source material. It argues that the process of parochialization in the Lisbon diocese took root very quickly in urban and suburban nuclei, while extending only later to newly-cleared land areas, mostly under the dependence of urban churches. From the middle of the thirteenth century, this process runs in parallel with the necessity to better define their boundaries, which left a document trail spanning until at least the end of the Middle Ages.

This text focuses on the ecclesiastical tax transfers in favour of the Portuguese Crown in the late medieval period, through an analysis of the typology of taxes, the chronology of its granting and the justifications presented for its perception. While the justifications given by the monarchy remain framed by the legitimacy conferred by canon law, the clerics’ resistance to its payment reveal an argument based on reality and on the good will to satisfy the fiscal needs of the Portuguese monarchs.

A partir de um inventário dos textos de cariz normativo presentes entre os códices produzidos no scriptorium do mosteiro de Alcobaça durante os séculos medievais, pretende-se equacionar a sua importância e funcionalidade, tanto na consolidação de uma unanimidade que Cister procurava construir e afirmar em torno de um mesmo ideal de vida, fiel ao espírito original da Regra de São Bento, como na reforma que, desde as primeiras décadas do século XV, se procura introduzir no cenóbio alcobacense por via de abades fortemente marcados por experiências de renovação da vida religiosa e próximos da corte régia. Atender-se-á, de forma particular, ao abaciado de Frei Estêvão de Aguiar (1431-1446) e ao seu esforço de tradução dos textos normativos fundamentais da Ordem como caminho para uma proposta renovada de vivência do ideal cisterciense.

This article aims at the biographical study of a Portuguese physician of the fifteenth century, still insufficiently known by the Portuguese historiography. Based on known and unpublished facts, it proposes a perspective into his public life, shared between the University, the service of the Great and the ecclesiastical environment, thus constituting a case of institutional and geographical mobility of a physician at the end of the Middle Ages.

[fr] La poursuite des affaires de la Couronne portugaise à la curie d’Avignon a amené la constitution de deux types de représentation. L’une, de caractère formelle, constituée par des ambassadeurs choisies ad casu au profil varié. L’autre, agencée autour des clercs séjournant de forme permanente à la curie. Les uns comme les autres intervinrent dans la concrétisation des demandes gracieuses ou fiscales au nom du roi ou de bénéfices pour eux et leurs clientèles.

Pretende-se estudar neste texto a orgânica e a composição social do Cabido da Sé de Lisboa no período que medeia entre 1277 e 1377, insistindo num primeiro tempo sobre a variedade e escopo de funções dos cargos beneficiais existentes na instituição e posteriormente sobre a componente humana desses mesmos cargos, mediante a análise dos níveis de inserção geo-sociais a partir de um estudo prosopográfico efectuado no decurso de uma dissertação de Mestrado.
