One of the objectives of the National Institute of Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP) is to promote and support the transfer of forestry, agricultural and livestock knowledge and technologies, according to the priority needs and demands of producers and society, as well as How to contribute to the training of human resources. To achieve this goal, according to Cadena et al 2015, INIFAP has implemented 14 technology transfer models, from those linear schemes from abroad, to participatory methods, such as the Livestock Groups Technology Validation and Transfer model (GGAVATT) and Experimental Producer, among others. He highlights that, in the southeastern region of Mexico, a paradigm shift has been marked with the Field Schools. Regarding this last model, this article describes the process by which the INIFAP research staff began to use the Field Schools model in the training of technicians and producers and the process of methodological adaptation to be used as a model of training, as well as some experiences of its use in different entities and contexts, and finally the perspectives that are displayed with its application.

The main contributions that INIFAP has made in the transfer of technologies and knowledge, in support of the rural population of Mexico, are presented, the most outstanding models within the national and international scope that researchers have put into operation and their main results are detailed. Undoubtedly, the institutional contributions to the programs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have marked a watershed between the traditional models or what "what occurred to him" to the researcher in contrast to the participatory and inclusive models to contribute to the substantial improvement of the productive processes, the family economy and for the agribusiness.

Trigonella foenum-graecum (fenugreek) is a legume widely used as a food supplement in humans and less frequently in ruminants. Toxicity has been described sporadically in ruminants grazing mature fenugreek plants or stubble; however, the pathological features are unclear. This report describes a natural outbreak of intoxication in cattle fed fenugreek straw and the experimental reproduction using 8 sheep and 8 goats. Affected cattle presented clinical signs approximately 1 month after consuming the straw and 100 of 400 cattle (25%) were affected, of which 60 of 100 (60%) died or were euthanized. Clinical signs were characterized by proprioceptive positioning defects with abnormal postures and weakness of hindlimbs. Forelimbs were also affected in severely affected animals, and cattle became recumbent. Locomotion was characterized by trembling, and some cattle showed high-stepping movements of their forelimbs and knuckled over in their fetlocks. Experimental intoxication induced clinical signs only in sheep and were similar to cattle, although with signs starting in the forelegs. Gross and microscopic lesions were similar in spontaneous and experimental intoxications. Macroscopic changes corresponded with muscular hemorrhages and edema, mainly surrounding the peripheral nerves. Microscopic examination only demonstrated lesions in the distal peripheral nerves, which included edema, hemorrhages, and Wallerian degeneration. Neurofilament immunohistochemistry revealed altered axon labeling and S100 showed a decrease in myelin intensity and loss of its typical compact arrangement around axons. Biochemical and hematological abnormalities included elevated levels of muscle and liver enzymes and thrombocytopenia. These findings indicate that fenugreek straw induces peripheral neuropathy in cattle and sheep, but not in goats.

Con la metodología de Escuelas de Campo se realizó investigación para determinar la eficiencia financiera del sistema de manejo integrado del limón (MIL) en clima semiárido semicálido (BS1hw), que permita mayor ingreso por actividad productiva de las familias campesinas en comparación con su situación inicial. El trabajo se desarrolló en Tlalcozotitlán, Copalillo, Guerrero, clasificada con alto índice de pobreza y carencia al acceso a la alimentación. El diagnóstico de la situación inicial se obtuvo con la aplicación de 30 cuestionarios y se calculó la rentabilidad de la tecnología tradicional, así como una encuesta al final del estudio. Parcelas-escuela fueron establecidas para evaluar el sistema MIL y manejo integrado modificado (MIL-M), con recomendaciones, seguimiento, evaluación y control de innovaciones realizadas por el productor. Las variables evaluadas fueron grado de adopción de innovaciones, rendimiento, costos de producción, ingresos y relación B/C. Los resultados indican rendimiento base de 2 t ha-1 con costo de producción de $3 650 ha-1, ingreso bruto de $14 285.71 ha-1, con coeficiente B/C de 3.91. El sistema MIL y MIL-M obtuvieron rendimientos de 11.55 y 7.37 t ha-1, con costos de producción de $16 927.70 y $14 106.35 ha-1, ingreso bruto de $134 640.00 y $97 725.00, coeficiente B/C de 7.95 y 6.93 respectivamente, lo cual se asoció a 88% de grado de adopción de las innovaciones. El sistema MIL mostró potencial económico, ofreciendo una oportunidad a los campesinos de aumentar sus ingresos y haciendo la actividad más rentable.

Con la finalidad de incrementar el rendimiento en cultivo de maíz en Tlalcozotitlán, municipio de Copalillo, Guerrero, se implementaron innovaciones tecnológicas bajo el modelo escuelas de campo (ECA) y se determinó su grado de adopción. Se aplicaron 30 cuestionarios para conocer la situación inicial de los productores, sobre el rendimiento por hectárea con la tecnología tradicional. La segunda fase fue establecimiento de la parcela-escuela de maíz y la capacitación a productores; a través, del modelo de ECA, en el contexto de la formación de productores-promotores. Las variables registradas fueron rendimiento, costo de producción, relación B/C y el grado de adopción de innovaciones. La situación inicial señala un rendimiento de 0.9 t ha-1 de grano de maíz, un costo de producción de $9 457.00 ha-1 y una relación B/C de 0.43, en la parcela-escuela se obtuvo 2.036 t ha-1 y un costo de producción de $11 767.00, se incrementó 1.136 t ha-1, que corresponde a 126% en dos años de evaluación y una relación B/C de 0.79. Hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el conocimiento y adopción de innovaciones tecnológicas por los productores-promotores antes y después de haber recibido los cursos de capacitación y acompañamiento de escuelas de campo, desarrollada en cultivo de maíz, donde se obtuvo 47% de adopción en componente selección de maíz criollo y 31% en inoculación de semillas con micorrizas y Metarhizium.

Leishmaniosis is a zoonotic disease with a very complex pathogenesis modulated by the interaction between the parasite, the vector and the host. Although the pathological characteristics have been extensively studied in the typically affected organs, some locations such as muscles and reproductive organs have been less studied. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of lesions in the temporal muscle and the male reproductive organs (testicle and epididymis) and correlate their characteristics with the presence of the parasite and with the clinical status of the dogs. The temporal muscle was studied in 25 infected beagle dogs (nine females and 16 males) and five uninfected control dogs (two females and three males) and the testicle and epididymis in the 19 males. Dogs were euthanized one year after infection and clinical signs, anti-Leishmania serum antibodies, and lymph node parasite load were assessed. Muscular and reproductive lesions were characterized by HE and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The presence of the parasite in the lesions was evaluated using IHC and molecular techniques. Myositis was observed in 72% (18/25) of the dogs and was characterized by lymphoplasmacytic or histiocytic lesions. Mild and severe lesions were detected, the latter being statistically associated with the presence of the parasite and with the clinical status of the dogs. Orchitis was observed in 50% (8/16) of the dogs and was mainly mild and lymphoplasmacytic. No statistical relationship was found between testicular lesions and the presence of the parasite or the clinical status. Epididymitis was observed in 87.5% (14/16) of the dogs, and the lesions were often infiltrated by numerous histiocytes and neutrophils. Epididymal lesions were statistically associated with the clinical status of the dogs and with the presence of the parasite in the lesions. IgG and IgM immunoglobulins were found in all lesions, suggesting a local immune response with reactivation of the infection. Leishmania was more frequently detected in severe and histiocytic lesions, although some lesions had no detectable parasites. These results have shown that lesions in the temporal muscle, epididymis, and testicles are common in dogs infected by Leishmania infantum and that dogs may show a different response to infection. This response is characterized by varying degrees of cellular and immune responses associated with a variable presence of the parasite.

The potential for explosive volcanism to affect the state of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has been debated since the1980s. Several observational studies, largely based on tree rings, have since found support for a positive ENSO phase in the year following large eruptions. Models of different complexities also simulate such a response, detectable above the backdrop of internal variability – though they disagree on the underlying mechanisms. In contrast, recent coral data from the heart of the tropical Pacific suggest no uniform ENSO response to all eruptions over the last millennium. Here we leverage paleoclimate data assimilation to integrate the latest paleoclimate evidence into a consistent dynamical framework and re-appraise this relationship. Our analysis finds only a weak statistical association between volcanism and ENSO, suggestive of either no causal association, or of an insufficient number of large volcanic events over the past millennium to obtain reliable statistics. While currently available observations do not support the model-based inference that tropical eruptions promote an ENSO response, there are hints of a response to hemispherically asymmetric forcing, consistent with the "ITCZ shift" mechanism. We discuss the difficulties of conclusively establishing a volcanic influence on ENSO given the many degrees of freedom affecting the response, including eruption season, spatial characteristics of the forcing, and ENSO phase preconditioning.

SUMMARYBackgroundSmell and taste disorders are reported very frequently and at an early stage in the evolution of the infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2. These symptoms could be sensitive and specific to establish the condition of the infection, and may suggest the flow of decisions as to further therapy. We asked whether smell and taste impairment are earlier and more sensitive symptoms than the RT-PCR molecular assays for SARS-CoV-2 detection.MethodologySubjects (N=275) with a probable COVID19 diagnosis were classified as follows: Symptomatic with chemosensory dysfunction, symptomatic without chemosensory dysfunction, and asymptomatic. Subjects received a general clinical and otorhinolaryngology examination. Evaluation of the chemosensory dysfunction was performed by means of the Venezuelan Olfactory Test and taste test. Nasal swabs and blood samples were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis (RT-PCR) and a rapid diagnostic test to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus and antiviral antibodies, respectively. Patients had access to molecular tests and smell and taste evaluations every 3 to 5 days until they recovered.ResultsOut of 44 patients that were positive for RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2: 45.83% had smell and taste disorders and COVID19 symptoms, 23.61% did not have smell or taste disorders, but had COVID19 symptoms, and 30.55% were asymptomatic. Mild hyposmia and hypogeusia account for the most frequent chemosensory disorders accompanying common SARS-CoV-2 symptoms. Time to recover from the chemosensory dysfunction ranges from 3 to 14 days, up to a maximum of 5 weeks, while RT-PCR becomes negative after 21 days and up to 35 days in some cases. The Venezuelan Olfactory Test and taste test has a 61.68% positive predictive value, 45.83% sensitivity, and 68.7% specificity for SARS-CoV-2 infection.ConclusionsSmell and taste disorders are frequent symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, but not a significant predictor of the disease, as compared to the molecular RT-PCR test.

El objetivo de esta investigación fue conocer y analizar el grado de comprensión, aplicación, resultados, efectos y limitantes de la implementación de la tecnología milpa intercalada en árboles frutales (MIAF), por los campesinos de cinco municipios Mixes participantes durante el proceso 1999-2009 en el proyecto. La investigación fue mediante una encuesta por muestreo estratificado, para la aplicación de cuestionarios a una muestra de 52 campesinos. Posterior a la fase de campo, la fase documental integró revisión de literatura, captura y el análisis de la información. Los resultados señalan que los campesinos decidieron innovar en componentes como la poda, injerto, trazos de curvas a nivel, siembra de la milpa dentro del sistema MIAF y la no quema del rastrojo. Y el rechazo o adaptación de ciertos componentes del sistema MIAF fue por la estructura sociocultural y económica del campesino. Esta adopción y adaptación o rechazo de los componentes del sistema MIAF, determinó un incremento al rendimiento del maíz y obtención de ingresos económicos para la familia campesina Mixe, además del desarrollo de capacidades del campesino, evidenciando que estos resultados no determinan que la concepción de esta innovación sea total por los campesinos. Durante este proceso, el campesino ha pasado gradualmente por el proceso de decisión para la adopción del sistema MIAF, conociendo, persuadiendo, decidiendo y por último confirmando, en la etapa f inal, donde efectivamente el campesino decide innovar y/o rechazar, con base en la experiencia obtenida con el sistema MIAF, en un primer acercamiento.

Desde la creación de los institutos nacionales de investigación, agrícola, pecuaria y forestal, hasta la creación del INIFAP en 1985, las acciones de transferencia se hacían por separado, y con alcances no medidos. Siempre se siguieron esquemas lineales provenientes del extranjero, de instituciones relacionadas con el sector agropecuario y forestal, fue hasta la década del 2000 cuando investigadores mexicanos principalmente de la región sur sureste de México, que iniciaron el cambio de paradigma al sustituir los modelos lineales, por la gestión de la innovación, los resultados son muy alentadores en áreas planas, serranas y con altos grados de marginación, curiosamente los niveles de más pobreza se observan donde existen la mayor riqueza en biodiversidad. En el INIFAP se han implementado 14 modelos de transferencia que buscan la gestión de la innovación, de ellos siete son lineales y siete han sido participativos, y estos se han enriquecido con la incorporación de más herramientas metodológicas como: la metodología de planeación basada en el marco lógico, el análisis de redes sociales, y sobre todo la participación de los principales actores beneficiados, que de acuerdo a la nueva ruralidad no solo son hombres, sino mujeres, jóvenes, personas de la tercera edad e integrantes de los pueblos originales.

Advanced simulation with a coupled multiphysics workflow will help speed design and time to market. 5G and IoT applications are composed of systems assembled from relatively simple components but the complexity of these components utilized at high frequencies and high power require ANSYS Multiphysics solution to optimize their performance. Reduced size of devices utilized at mm waves require innovative applications of hardware and with the ANSYS HFSS, Mechanical and Fluid Tools an optimized coupled physics solution related to electromagnetic performance and mechanical and thermal reliability is necessary. Various specific environment scenario ssimulations of these specific devices in a realistic user environment are enabled by ANSYS HFSS SBR+ and EMIT Tools.

The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Escherichia coli from a dog population in Spain and assess specific virulence factors. Susceptibility to 22 antimicrobials was tested along with the production of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) and AmpC in faecal isolates from 100 dogs. Virulence-related genes associated with attaching and effacing E. coli (eae, Stx1, Stx2) and extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli – ExPEC – (papC, hlyA and cnf1) were detected by PCR. At least one kind of AMR was observed in 73% of the isolates. The highest prevalences corresponded to penicillin (45%), aminoglycoside (40%) and non-extended spectrum cephalosporin (39%) classes. Multidrug resistance (MDR) was observed in 53.4% of the resistant isolates. No resistance to colistin was found. Production of ESBL/AmpC enzymes was detected in 5% of E. coli. Shiga toxin-producing E. coli were not observed, enteropathogenic E. coli were identified in only 12% of them, and ExPEC were found in 25%. Dog faeces can be a source of E. coli strains potentially presenting a threat to humans through their virulence factors or AMR. The non-hygienic keeping of animals may increase the risk of colonisation of such pathogens in humans.

Objetivo: Incrementar la diversidad de especies y rendimiento en huertos de hortalizas para contribuir a la superación de la pobreza en la localidad de Tlalcozotitlán, Copalillo, Guerrero.Diseño/metodología/aproximación: El estudio se realizó con 30 familias representadas por un integrante que pertenecen a la organización “El Copalito”, de la localidad de Tlalcozotitlán, Copalillo,Guerrero. El trabajo se llevó a cabo mediante la Investigación-Acción-Participativa (IAP), que correspondió al acercamiento y conocimiento del área de estudio; el diseño y establecimiento de la parcela-escuelade hortalizas, mediante un manejo agroecológico; el desarrollo de capacidades a través de las Escuelas de Campo (ECAs). Las variables fueron la diversidad y producción de especies en huertos de hortalizas,venta e ingresos económicos para las familias.Resultados: En promedio los productores siembran 2.3 especies de hortalizas por familia, pero hay familias que cultivan hasta siete especies: chile criollo, tomate, pápalo, miltomate, chipile, quelites yhuanzontle, obteniendo un rendimiento total de 1 kg m-2 mediante un manejo convencional, un ingreso por día de $81.26. En la parcela-escuela de hortalizas se implementaron diez innovacionesagroecológicas y se incrementó a 5 especies, sin embargo, hubo productores que sembraron 16 especies con rendimiento promedio de 2.2 kg m-2 que corresponde 120% de incremento con respecto ala línea base; un ingreso adicional de $31.20 por día correspondiente a 27.74%. Hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el conocimiento y adopción de innovaciones tecnológicas por losproductores-promotores antes y después de haber recibido los cursos de capacitación.Limitaciones del estudio/implicaciones: El resultado obtenido refleja un mejoramiento en el ingreso familiar y contribuye en la superación de la pobreza en el lugar de estudio; sin embargo, se requiere seguir difundiendo las innovaciones tecnológicas agroecológicas para obtener un producto de mejor calidad.Hallazgos/conclusiones: La capacitación, asistencia técnica y la difusión mediante el modelo de Escuelas de Campo, ha incidido para que las innovaciones tecnológicas desarrolladas con el proyecto hayansido aceptado y adoptado por los productores en sus huertos de hortalizas.

Objetivo: Evaluar el impacto de la transferencia de tecnología hortícola a través de las Escuelas de Campo (ECA) a un grupo de productores indígenas Tzotziles de Los Altos de Chiapas, México. Diseño/metodología/aproximación: El estudio se desarrolló con siete familias de San José del Carmen, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Se realizó un diagnóstico inicial y durante el período 2017-2018 se promovió la producción de hortalizas con el método biointensivo. Para evaluar los resultados, se determinaron las siguientes variables: superficie cultivada, rendimiento, diversidad de especies, estabilidad y destino de la producción. Resultados: Con el incremento de los conocimientos en la producción de cultivos por el método biointensivo, la superficie cultivada aumento en un 91%, la producción de hortalizas en camas biointensivas fue de 10.4 kg m-2. Se logró un aumento de 86% de las especies cultivadas y hubo disponibilidad de alimentos durante ocho meses. El 94% de la producción se destinó para el autoconsumo. Limitaciones del estudio/implicaciones: Los resultados de este estudio se consideran aceptables, sin embargo, es necesario continuar con el acompañamiento técnico y determinar el grado de adopción de tecnología. Conclusiones: La implementación del modelo Escuelas de Campo, incrementó el nivel de conocimientos sobre el método de cultivo biointensivo, mejorando la producción y disponibilidad de hortalizas en San José del Carmen, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas.

Objetivo: Establecer una línea base como fundamento para la intervención e inducción de innovaciones a través de escuelas de campo y planes de negocios. Diseño/metodología/aproximación: El estudio se desarrolló en San José del Carmen, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, México. Se elaboró una encuesta como instrumento para recabar en campo información de familias de la localidad con la finalidad de conocer su situación actual. La localidad de trabajo se eligió utilizando como criterio las poblaciones que se encuentran dentro de Cruzada Nacional contra el hambre y en la clasificación de la pobreza extrema Resultados: La localidad de San José del Carmen es considerada como de alta marginación, la población es bilingüe, su principal lengua es el Tzotzil, el nivel de estudios promedio es hasta el tercer año de primaria, las principales actividades productivas son la siembra de maíz (Zea mays L.), frijol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), papa (Solanum tuberosum L.) y haba (Vicia faba L.) que son utilizadas principalmente para autoconsumo. No cuentan con agua potable ya que su sistema es a través de la recaudación de agua de lluvia o a través de un jagüey. Sus principales actividades económicas son la albañilería por parte de los hombres, y venta de productos, tales como el pozol (bebida energética a base de maíz y cacao (Theobroma cacao L.), tostadas y algunos vegetales por parte de las mujeres. Las tostadas son producidas en forma artesanal con un proceso de doble nixtamalización y vendida en bolsas de 20 tostadas cada una, a un costo de MX$10.00 en los mercados de San Cristóbal de las Casas, una a dos veces por semana alrededor de 40 bolsas por día de venta. Limitaciones del estudio/implicaciones: La afiliación zapatista de alguno de los pobladores y el hecho de que algunos habitantes no hablen español, fueron factores que limitaron desarrollar al 100% el estudio; sin embargo, se considera que se tienen los elementos necesarios para establecer la línea base de la situación de San José del Carmen. Conclusiones: El diagnóstico servirá como una herramienta para establecer una intervención a través de innovaciones y planes de negocios en la comunidad de estudio. Los pobladores cuentan con herramientas necesarias para obtener nuevos conocimientos que ayuden a un desarrollo de su producción. El idioma no deberá de ser una limitante para ello.

Susceptibilidad antimicrobiana y análisis filogenético de

Background Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is recognised as an emerging disease in both humans and some animal species. During the past few years, insights into human CDI epidemiology changed and C. difficile is also considered as an emerging community-acquired pathogen. Certain ribotypes (RT) are possibly associated with zoonotic transmission. The objective of this study was to assess the presence of C. difficile in a population of pets and to characterise the isolates. Results Faecal samples from a total of 90 diarrhoeic dogs and 24 from exotic animal species (both diarrhoeic and non-diarrhoeic) were analysed. Clostridium difficile was isolated from 6 (6.7%) dogs and one reptile sample (4.2%). Four (66.7%) of the six dog strains were capable of producing toxins. Four known different RTs were detected in dogs (010, 014, 123 and 358) and a new one was found in a faecal sample of an exotic animal. This new RT isolate was negative for all toxin genes tested and belonged to sequence type 347 which has been proposed as a Clade-III member. Importantly, two dog strains showed a stable resistance to metronidazole (initial MIC values: 128 and 48 μg/ml). Conclusions The results obtained in this study suggest the implementation of antimicrobial susceptibility surveillance programs to assess the prevalence of metronidazole resistance in dogs; molecular studies to elucidate C. difficile metronidazole resistance mechanisms are warranted. Based on the similarity between the ribotypes observed in dogs and those described in humans, the zoonotic transmission should be further explored. Furthermore, exotic animals have shown to harbor uncommon C. difficile strains which require further genomic studies. The publication of the Spanish standard Building Technical Code (CTE) in 2006 was a landmark in obtaining the wind action on structures, with respect to the previous standard. The CTE was developed, among other reasons, to adapt the Spanish standards to the Eurocodes, with which there must be convergence prior to 2010. In this context, a comparative study of the parameters that are involved in obtaining the wind action using the CTE and Eurocode 1 has been carried out. Three examples of conventional structures have been used to quantify the influence of this action on the final design: an industrial building, and two buildings with heights of 5 and 25 storeys. As conclusions of this research, some clarifications to improve the application of Spanish code are provided and some additional capabilities from Eurocode 1 are underlined, which could be considered in order to perform a more precise structural design., La publicación del Código Técnico de la Edificación (CTE) en 2006 ha supuesto un salto conceptual en la obtención de la acción del viento sobre las estructuras respecto a la norma básica de acciones anterior. Con el CTE se pretendía adaptar el marco normativo español al programa Eurocódigos, al que debía converger hasta el año 2010. En este contexto se ha realizado un estudio comparativo entre los factores involucrados en la obtención de la acción de viento empleando CTE y Eurocódigo 1. Para cuantificar la influencia de esta acción sobre el diseño estructural se han empleado tres ejemplos de tipologías estructurales habituales: una nave industrial y dos edificios de 5 y 25 plantas. En las conclusiones se aportan comentarios que pueden mejorar la aplicación de la normativa española y se señalan ciertos aspectos contemplados en Eurocódigo 1 que sería recomendable considerar en caso de requerir un diseño estructural más ajustado.

Enterococcus hirae is a zoonotic Enterococcus species that causes opportunistic infections in both humans and animals and can be transmitted by contact with animals or through contaminated food. The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of E. hirae in broilers with endocarditis, as well as the antimicrobial resistance patterns and genetic relatedness of the isolates. A total of 477 three- to five-week-old broilers were studied during five fattening periods on a farm with mortality due to endocarditis. Endocarditis was observed in 27 chickens (5.66%), and samples were taken for pathological, microbiological, and molecular studies. Lesions were mainly found in the right atrioventricular valve and corresponded with a fibrinous endocarditis. Enterococcus hirae was identified in all cases. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis results showed clonality among some isolates, with one pulsotype harboring 11 isolates that were found throughout the study. Most of the isolates showed multi-drug-resistant phenotypes. These results confirm that E. hirae is a significant cause of endocarditis in broilers, and suggest that broilers may be important carriers of antimicrobial-resistant E. hirae that might enter into the food chain.

A method for defining hydrostratigraphic units is herein proposed, and various definitions of hydrostratigraphic units previously proposed are analyzed. Nevertheless, none of the definitions are widely accepted; therefore, the hydrostratigraphic units proposed here are defined using the lithologic characteristics of the sediments along with the values of hydraulic conductivity. A methodology to define hydrostratigraphic units in granular aquifers is proposed. The case of the Yaqui River aquifer is analyzed here and the hydrostratigraphic units are defined based on the characteristics of the sediments filling the basin, which correspond to fluvial sedimentary environments. Five hydrostratigraphic units were identified in the aquifer. Also, with the interpretation of the hydrostratigraphy, it was possible to determine the kind sediments present at different depths, thereby recognizing the presence of the ancient river channel of the Yaqui River.
