Purpose: Our study aimed to explore real-world treatment scenarios for children and adolescents with neurotrophic tropomyosin receptor kinase (NTRK)-fused tumors, emphasizing access, responses, side effects, and outcomes., Patients and Methods: Pooled clinical data from 17 pediatric cases (11 soft-tissue sarcomas, five brain tumors, and one neuroblastoma) treated with larotrectinib and radiologic images for 14 patients were centrally reviewed. Testing for gene fusions was prompted by poor response to treatment, tumor progression, or aggressiveness., Results: Six different NTRK fusion subtypes were detected, and various payment sources for testing and medication were reported. Radiologic review revealed objective tumor responses (OR) in 11 of 14 patients: Complete responses: two; partial responses: nine; and stable disease: three cases. Grades 1 or 2 Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events adverse effects were reported in five patients. Regarding the entire cohort's clinical information, 15 of 17 patients remain alive (median observation time: 25 months): four with no evidence of disease and 11 alive with disease (10 without progression). One patient developed resistance to the NTRK inhibitor and died from disease progression while another patient died due to an unrelated cause., Conclusion: This real-world study confirms favorable agnostic tumor OR rates to larotrectinib in children with NTRK-fused tumors. Better coordination to facilitate access to medication remains a challenge, particularly in middle-income countries like Brazil.

The haploid karyotype of Kapala sp. (Eucharitidae), a parasite of the Neotropical ant Dinoponera lucida Emery, 1901 (Hymenoptera, Formicidae), is reported for the first time. It consists of four metacentric chromosomes. Chromosomes in the family Eucharitidae were unknown so far; therefore, our results confirm that multiple parallel chromosomal fusions have taken place in several lineages within the superfamily Chalcidoidea.

The basal ant Dinoponera (Hymenoptera: Ponerinae) has lost the morphologic queen caste so that all females may be potential reproductive individuals, and the nestmate recognition results from cuticular hydrocarbons cues. However, data about the origin of that substance in Ponerinae ants are scarce. This study reports the occurrence of epidermal glands in the abdomen of the ant Dinoponera lucida. In this ant, the epidermis of the abdominal sternites has tall cells with well-developed nucleus contrasting with flattened and collapsed epidermis in the tergites, suggesting a glandular function in the epidermis of the sternites. The possible role of the glandular epidermis in the synthesis of cuticular hydrocarbons for the nestmate recognition is discussed., (Copyright 2008 Wiley-Liss, Inc.)

This study aimed at showing the applicability of using a combination of four sampling methods (i.e., Winkler extractors, pitfall traps, baiting and manual collection), something most often conducted in the tropics, to create an inventory of ant species diversity in temperate environments. We recorded a total of 33 ant species in the Grands Causses by comparing three vegetal formations: a steppic lawn ('causse' sensu stricto), which was the most species-rich (29 species), followed by an oak grove (22 species) and a pine forest (17 species). No sampling method alone is efficient enough to provide an adequate sampling, but their combination permits one to make a suitable inventory of the myrmecofauna and to obtain information on the ecology of these ant species.

Morphology of the antennae of the female workers of the ponerine ant Dinoponera lucida was examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. In several antennomers, we found secretory gland cells of class I and III. Class III gland cells release their secretion through single pores in the antennal surface, whereas class I secretory cells are seen as tall epidermal cells close to the cuticle. Both gland types have weak reaction for total proteins and neutral polysaccharides. Six distinct sensilla types were observed: trichodea, chaetica, campaniform, basiconica, placodea, and coeloconica. We report the remarkable karyotype of Dinoponera lucida, a Brazilian endemic ponerine ant. Its chromosome number is 2n=106, most of the chromosomes are acrocentric and of very small size, and the karyotype formula is 88A+18M. A chromosome pair of the AM(t) type is reported. This is the largest number of chromosomes reported for the Hymenoptera order until now.
