Although breast cancer treatments reduce mortality, their adverse effects can increase depression which impacts one’s quality of life (QoL). Physical activity (PA) seems to improve the QoL of breast cancer survivors (BCS). However, an unanswered question is the influence of PA on the QoL in BCS with depressive symptoms. Thus, we analyzed the influence of PA on the QoL in BCS with persistent depressive symptoms during 12 months of follow-up. The sample included 70 female BCS. Depression and QoL domains (i.e., functional capacity, physical limitations, body pain, general health status, vitality, social and emotional aspects, and mental health) were assessed at baseline and follow-up periods by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and SF-36, respectively. Habitual PA was assessed by Baecke’s questionnaire. Our results indicate a prevalence of 17.1% of depressive symptoms. Non-depressives BCS improved their physical limitations and general health status domains over time, but there were no observed differences in depressive BCS. BCS with persistent depressive symptoms (baseline and follow-up) showed worse QoL scores than non-depressives in all domains, regardless of confounding factors. When adjusted for PA, the difference between BCS depressives and non-depressives lost its significance in the functional capacity domain. In conclusion, habitual PA practice positively influenced the functional capacity domain of the QoL in BCS.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2022-02-01 Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the longitudinal influence of sitting time (ST) on cardiac autonomic modulation (CAM) and resting heart rate (RHR) in a 12-month cohort of 67 breast cancer survivors. Methods: CAM was assessed by heart rate variability with heart monitor which also assessed RHR, and ST was self-reported. The relationship between the variables was analyzed by the Pearson correlation and its magnitude by linear regression. Results: At baseline, no associations were found between ST and CAM or RHR. In the delta analyses, a decrease in RMSSD, SD1, and HF(ms2) was associated with sitting time. At 12-month follow-up, there was an increase in the ST and a decrease in RHR. ST was negatively related with CAM (RMSSD, PNN50, and SD1), but no association was observed between ST and RHR. Conclusion: The increase in ST was associated with worsening of CAM after 12-month follow-up. Promoting reduction in ST will be an important strategy against cardiovascular impairment in breast cancer survivors. Introduction: Women with breast cancer may present, in addition to physical limitations, changes in emotional aspects. In physical therapy, it is unusual to consider the mind-body dialogue, even when it comes to diseases with great impact on bio-psychosocial aspects, such as breast cancer. However, therapies are emerging with a psychosomatic nature, such as morphonalitic therapy, which includes bodily, sensory, emotional and verbal aspects. Objective: To verify the effects of morphonalitic therapy on the treatment of anxiety, depression and self-esteem in women after breast cancer. Furthermore, it presents some verbal reports of sessions in order to include the feelings and sensations of these women and recognize, in addition to objective factors, the subjective factors that are an integral part of human stories. Method: Ten women participated in the study, undergoing 16 individual morphonalitic therapy sessions, once a week, lasting 60 minutes. They completed a scale on anxiety and depression and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. The sessions were arranged through a structured therapeutic framework, which varied according to the therapeutic process of each participant. This included bodywork, empathetic touching contact, eye contact, stimulation of body awareness, and analysis of the patient’s body structure; during the session, the patients verbalized their feelings. Results: Depressive symptoms decreased (p = 0.0418) and self-esteem increased (p = 0.0020) after treatment. Conclusions: During the sessions, these women experienced various feelings, beyond the awakening of body awareness. It is hoped that morphonalitic therapy be applied on a larger scale as an adjunct therapy for women with breast cancer, as well as in other populations.

Physical activity (PA) is highly recommended for this population due to its protective effect against BC relapse and its ability to reduce the health impact of treatment. However, it is not clear whether the different domains of PA are associated with better QoL of BC survivors. The current study aimed to verify the relationship between different PA domains with QoL of BC survivors. METHODS: The sample consisted of 128 women BC survivors, with a mean age of 58.2 ± 9.7 years. QoL was assessed using the Short-Form Health Survey questionnaire (SF-36) and PA was verified through the Baecke questionnaire, in domains of occupation, sports practice, and leisure time/commuting. The relationship between QoL and different PA domains was verified by linear regression, adjusted by age, marital status, and socioeconomic condition. RESULTS: Occupational PA was negatively related to physical limitations [β= -15.36 (-29.04 to -1.68] and body pain [β=-6.61 (-14.53 to 1.31) marginal association]. Sports practice was positively related to functional capacity [β= 4.24 (0.60 to 7.88)]. Leisure time/commuting PA was positively related to functional capacity [β = 7.17 (3.09 to 11.26)], vitality [β = 4.30 (0.39 to 8.22)], social aspects [β= 5.47 (0.80 to 10.15)], and mental health [β = 4.08 (0.40 to 7.75)]. CONCLUSIONS: Sports practice and leisure time/commuting PA were positively related to QoL in BC survivors, while occupational PA was negatively related to QoL, independently of age, marital status, and socioeconomic condition. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, composed of 115 breast cancer (BC) survivors. Measurements of weight, height, waist circumference (WC), and hip circumference were objectively collected, as well as the analysis of body fat percentage through bioelectrical impedance analysis. The PA level was assessed by the Baecke questionnaire including domains related to occupational activity, leisure-time activity, and transportation, while the time spent in sedentary behavior was assessed through self-reported screen-time. Socioeconomic status was assessed through the Brazilian criteria for economic classification and considered as a covariate. Results: BC survivors with higher PA levels in leisure-time activity/sport presented reductions in body fat percentage (β = 1.13%; CI = -2.06; -0.21), BMI (β = 0.80 kg/m²; CI = -1.50; -0.11), WC (β = 1.89 cm; CI = -3.54; -0.23), and waist-to-height ratio (β = 0.13 cm; CI = -0.23; -0.02). Similar values were observed in PA during transportation and in total. There was no correlation between PA at work and adiposity indicators. Conclusion: Different PA domains were inversely related to body adiposity in BC survivors. Analisou-se o perfil emocional, de um programa de reabilitação fisioterapêutica em grupo, em pacientes com Osteoartrose (OA). A amostra integrou 25 pacientes com idade maior ou igual a 18 anos, ambos os sexos, diagnosticados com OA. Foram coletados dados pessoais e antropométricos, e aplicados questionários avaliando dor, qualidade de vida, ansiedade, depressão, níveis de estresse e autoestima dos pacientes. A média da idade foi 61,24 ± 11,32. As médias no questionário HAD foram, para ansiedade 13,90 ± 2,18, e depressão 14,66 ± 1,52. O LIPP variou entre 40% a 60% na fase II e III de sintomas estressores, no questionário SF-36 no aspecto emocional a média foi 34,65 ± 40,22 e no Rosenberg a autoconfiança teve média 16,32 ± 2,98 e auto depreciação com 14,56 ± 4,05. Este estudo mostrou que os sintomas de ansiedade e depressão estão presentes no processo do envelhecimento juntamente com a OA. Diante disso, torna-se indispensável à avaliação e o tratamento adequado do perfil emocional desses pacientes.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2018-10-01 Objectives: This study aimed to verify the prevalence of body satisfaction in breast cancer survivors and the association of this variable with overweight, sedentary behavior and physical activity in this population. Study Design: This is a cross-sectional study realized in Presidente Prudente–Brazil. Breast cancer survivors participated in this study. Questionnaires were used to obtain data on socioeconomic status, body dissatisfaction, sedentary behavior and level of physical activity. The association between body dissatisfaction and the independent variables was verified through binary logistic regression in the unadjusted model and model adjusted by socioeconomic level. Results: A total of 102 breast cancer survivors participated in this study with a mean age of 58.2 (±10.3) years. The prevalence of body dissatisfaction was 75.7%. Body dissatisfaction was higher in women with higher BMI (pvalue = 0.003) and in woman with high sedentary behavior (p-value = 0.049). Women with overweight had 7.87 times more chance of presenting body dissatisfaction. Women who reported hormone therapy were approximately 3 times more likely to be dissatisfacted with their body. Conclusion: Body dissatisfaction was associated with lower age, high sedentary behavior and overweight in breast cancer survivors in the unadjusted analysis. When adjusted for socioeconomic status, only the variables of overweight and hormone therapy were associated with body dissatisfaction. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to verify the reproducibility of an oscillometric device in the measurement of resting heart rate (RHR) in breast cancer survivors. METHODS This study included 85 breast cancer survivors with a mean age of 58.87±10.03 years. For the RHR evaluation, the equipment used was the Omron HEM 742, electronic and digital arm device, for measurement of blood pressure and heart rate (HR), with automatic cuff inflation and deflation. At the same time as the oscillometric measurement, HR was measured by the HR monitor Polar RS800 CX, which has been validated previously for HR uptake. The HR value obtained by the cardiofrequency meter was registered at the same time that the Omron device measured blood pressure and HR values. RESULTS It was observed that the RHR values were very close in both devices and that the correlation values and intraclass correlation coefficient were high. These results were replicated when the female breast cancer survivors were stratified by age group. The agreement values presented by the Bland-Altman analysis showed good values; both for the entire sample and stratified by age, few cases were outside beyond 95% confidence interval range. CONCLUSION The present study showed that the oscillometric device used presented good values of reproducibility in the detection of RHR values in breast cancer survivors compared with a cardiac monitor.

Therefore, verification of the factors associated with this condition in adolescence is important. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between hypertension in adolescents with hypertension and the sociodemographic characteristics and lifestyle of their parents. This study was conducted on 1231 adolescents, 1202 mothers, and 871 fathers. The blood pressure of the adolescents was measured with an oscillometric device. Details of parental hypertension, sociodemographic characteristics, and lifestyle were obtained by self-report. The prevalence of hypertension was higher among adolescents with older fathers and older mothers, with both parents reporting hypertension and with mothers who were overweight. In multivariable analysis, adolescents with older mothers (OR = 2.36; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.12–4.98), hypertensive mothers (OR = 2.22 [95% CI = 1.26–3.89]), and hypertensive fathers (OR = 1.70 [95% CI = 1.03–2.81]) were more likely to have hypertension. In the analysis that considered clusters of health risk factors, higher risks of hypertension were observed in adolescents whose mothers had four or more aggregated risk factors (OR = 2.53 [95% CI = 1.11–5.74]). In conclusion, there was a relationship between hypertension in adolescents and hypertension in their parents. However, an association between hypertension in adolescents and parental age and clusters of health risk factors was only observed for their mothers. Investigations into pathways to the development of complications are important both for treatment and prevention. Aim: To evaluate the relationship between amputation and risk factors in people with diabetes mellitus. Materials and method: All participants included in this study (n = 165) were recruited from the Diabetic Foot Program, developed in a Brazilian University, over seven years (2007-2014) and all information for this study was extracted from their clinical records. Results: The prevalence of amputation in patients with diabetes with four risk factors was up to 20% higher when compared to those with only one risk factor. The main predictive risk factors for amputation in this population were the presence of an ulcer and smoking. Conclusion: The risk factors for amputation can be predicted for people with diabetes mellitus and, in the present study, the main factors were the presence of an ulcer and the smoking habit. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between post-operative time and cardiac autonomic modulation in breast cancer survivors and compare these values to those of women without cancer. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study consisting of 45 women from 35 to 70 years old. These women were divided into two after breast cancer groups (BCG1 and BCG2) and a control group (CG). Group BCG1 consisted of women who had undergone breast cancer surgery within the last 18 months and BCG2 those whose postoperative periods were more than 18 months. The control group was formed by cancer-free women. HRV indices were used in the time and the frequency domain and geometric indexes. Results: The indices in millisecond, RMSSD (BCG1 = 19.83; BCG2 = 14.99; CG = 31.46), SD1 (BCG1 = 14.03; BCG2 = 10.61; CG = 22.27), SD2 (BCG1 = 39.17; BCG2 = 35.28; CG = 61.16), SDNN (BCG1 = 29.58; BCG2 = 26.12; CG = 46.36) and HF in milliseconds squared (BCG1 = 194.2; BCG2 = 91.07; CG = 449.4) showed statistically significant reductions in the breast cancer groups compared to the CG (p ≤ 0.0001). Lower SD1 index values were observed when comparing BCG2 to BCG1. Conclusions: Breast cancer survivors regardless of their postoperative period exhibited a decrease in overall variability and both sympathetic and parasympathetic activity when compared to women without the disease. The group with the longer postoperative period manifested more pronounced autonomic modulation changes. Study design: Cross-sectional study. Objective: To evaluate the influence of continuous and intermittent noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) on cardiac autonomic modulation and cardiorespiratory parameters in healthy women. Methods: Twenty subjects performed two types of NIV: continuous through CPAP and intermittent through Müller Reanimator. Initially they remained at rest for 20 minutes in spontaneous breathing. Then volunteers were subjected to 20 minutes of NIV application with the selected technique and finally remained at rest for 20 minutes in spontaneous breathing. Cardiorespiratory parameters and heart rate variability (HRV) were measured in all these moments. Results: There were no significant differences when comparing the two techniques. Differences were observed in HRV and cardiorespiratory parameters when analyzed individually. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2016-02-01 Objective: To determine the immediate effect of a Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BAT) session on measures of heart rate variability (HRV) in healthy young people. Methods: 13 healthy young subjects of both genders, who showed no illnesses related to the autonomic nervous system (ANS) underwent an ANS evaluation before and after conducting a session of BAT. The assessment of ANS activity was conducted through the HR with the aid of Nerve-Express (R) software. The BAT session lasted for 50 min and was performed by one investigator (blinded to the assessment procedures). Results: After BAT session significant improvement was found in the sympathetic and parasympathetic modulation (p < 0.05), and the general estimate of heart rate variability (p < 0.04). Conclusion: BAT was found to be an effective, easy to apply and inexpensive therapeutic technique, able to change ANS in order to improve HR which may suggest better health conditions for participating individuals. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus when glycemic levels are poorly controlled. Sometimes DPN is accompanied by vasculopathy (DPV), which can worsen the clinical prognosis. The aim of this study was to analyze the gait parameters of nondiabetic individuals and diabetic individuals with DPN with or without DPV. METHOD The study included 68 individuals (50 to 65 years old) divided into three groups: people without diabetes mellitus (n = 33), diabetic patients with DPN (n = 18), and diabetic patients with both DPN and DVP (n = 17). The participants underwent a gait evaluation using electronic baropodometry to obtain the single and double support, velocity, and pressure-time integral. RESULTS The pressure-time integral, velocity, and single support variables were lower, and the double support and double support/single support ratio were higher in the diabetic neuropathy and vasculopathy group. The velocity was lower the greater the degree of impairment of the diabetic foot. Some correlations were identified with velocity. CONCLUSION In diabetic individuals, there was a significant worsening of the gait parameters analyzed according to increasing degree of clinical impairment.

Obesidade e sobrepeso sao fatores de risco para desenvolvimento de neoplasias e oferecem maiores chances de recorrencia e progressao. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a presenca desses fatores de risco em mulheres pos-cirurgia de câncer de mama, participantes de hidroterapia, por meio do indice de massa corporal (IMC) e circunferencia da cintura. Foram coletados massa corporal e estatura para calculo do IMC e circunferencia da cintura. Participaram do estudo 19 mulheres com faixa etaria de 59,10±11,78 anos e IMC de 29,56±4,07. Das participantes, 94,74% apresentaram-se obesas ou com sobrepeso e 78,94% apresentaram circunferencia da cintura maior ou igual a 88 centimetros. Sao necessarias readaptacoes do tratamento e orientacoes sobre maleficios da obesidade nesta populacao. As precaucoes devem estar dentre os objetivos de saude publica, nao apenas como forma de evitar recidivas, mas tambem como prevencao de patologias que a tem como fator de risco.

O periodo pos-cirurgico de câncer de mama reflete na saude fisica e emocional dos individuos acometidos, provocando alteracoes fisicas e psicologicas. Com base nisto, o estudo objetivou relacionar medidas antropometricas e niveis emocionais a fim de avaliar o perfil fisico e emocional de mulheres submetidas a cirurgia de câncer de mama. Participaram 12 mulheres (56,66±12,16 anos) que realizaram cirurgia de câncer de mama. Foram avaliados indice de massa corporea (IMC), circunferencia abdominal (CA), flexibilidade de cadeia posterior, sintomas de estresse (Inventario de Sintomas de Stress para Adultos de Lipp - ISSL) e de ansiedade e depressao (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale - HAD). Os resultados evidenciaram que a populacao avaliada apresentou pre-obesidade (IMC 27,10±4,10 kg/m², CA 92,23±10,87 cm), pouca flexibilidade (20,12±5,78 cm), sintomas de estresse (fase de resistencia 58,4%, fase de exaustao 41,6%), de ansiedade (41,6%) e de depressao (25%).

Os fisioterapeutas vêm desenvolvendo papel fundamental nesse novo cenário de saúde. Objetivos Implementar ações de avaliação e orientações para pacientes com DM tipo 2, quanto ao pé diabético e à prática regular de exercícios físicos no controle e na prevenção de complicações do DM, os quais frequentam uma Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF). Métodos Foram avaliados 17 indivíduos de uma ESF, com os seguintes procedimentos: verificação de parâmetros clínicos e antropométricos, inspeção, questionário sobre neuropatia diabética, teste da sensibilidade tátil e vibratória, função muscular, amplitude de movimento, análise funcional, questionamentos sobre realização de exercícios, orientações sobre sua prática no controle glicêmico e orientações quanto aos cuidados com os pés. Resultados Foram encontradas deformidades, pele ressecada, calos, desidratação, ulceração, rachaduras e unhas quebradiças. A investigação sobre neuropatia periférica não indicou sua presença; a sensibilidade tátil estava alterada principalmente na região do calcanhar e a sensibilidade vibratória estava ausente em 5% dos indivíduos. Verificou-se diminuição na funcionalidade em movimentos de tornozelo. Dos participantes, 76% eram sedentários e 24% conheciam os benefícios da prática regular de exercícios físicos; 25% dos indivíduos passaram por avaliação médica antes de realizar exercício físico, que era supervisionado por profissional habilitado em 25% dos casos. Discussão A implementação de ações fisioterapêuticas nos diabéticos de uma EFS foi importante para destacar a presença de fatores de risco para complicações do diabetes. Conclusões Os indivíduos da ESF necessitam de mais informações e programas para a prevenção de complicações do DM e apresentam alterações predisponentes a amputações e outras complicações. Introduction In the Family Health Strategy (FHS), the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) includes education and lifestyle change strategies. Physiotherapists have a key role in this health setting. Objectives To implement actions of evaluation and guidelines for patients with type 2 DM who attend a Family Health Strategy (FHS), regarding diabetic foot and the practice of regular physical exercise in the control and prevention of the complications of Diabetes Mellitus. Methods 17 individuals from an FHS were evaluated, with the following procedures: clinical and anthropometric parameters, inspection, a questionnaire on diabetic neuropathy, tests of vibratory and tactile sensitivity, muscle function, range of motion, functional analysis, questions about exercise practice and guidance regarding controlling blood glucose and foot care. Results Deformities, dry skin, calluses, dehydration, ulceration, cracking and brittle nails were found. Peripheral neuropathy was not observed; tactile sensitivity was altered in the heel region and the vibratory sense was absent in 5% of individuals. A decrease in functionality of ankle movements was verified. Of the participants, 76% were sedentary, 24% knew about the benefits of practicing regular exercise, 25% had undergone a medical evaluation prior to performing physical exercise and, of these, 25% were supervised by a qualified professional. Discussion The implementation of physiotherapy actions in diabetics from an FHS was important for highlighting the presence of risk factors for diabetic complications. Muitos pacientes pós-cirúrgicos de revascularização do miocárdio elegíveis para reabilitação cardíaca não estão sendo atendidos, é importante uma rotatividade nos centros de atendimento, de forma que outros possam se beneficiar do tratamento. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar possíveis efeitos da substituição de programa de reabilitação cardiovascular supervisionado (fase III) para não supervisionado (fase IV), durante dois meses, na capacidade funcional, variabilidade da frequência cardíaca (VFC) e parâmetros cardiometabólicos de indivíduos com diagnóstico de doenças cardiovasculares. Foram avaliados 10 pacientes que encontravam-se em programa de reabilitação cardíaca fase III por período mínimo de seis meses, elegíveis para reabilitação não supervisionada. Os parâmetros analisados foram capacidade funcional, VFC, pressão arterial, glicemia capilar, relação cintura quadril e índice de massa corpórea. Indivíduos submetidos a atividades não supervisionadas durante dois meses, não apresentaram alterações significativas nos parâmetros avaliados. A Fase IV manteve adaptações obtidas e deve ser incentivada à pacientes de baixo risco cardiovascular que apresentaram benefícios na fase III.

Introduction: Body Awareness Therapy (BAT) can be used in various clinical settings, in both the prevention and rehabilitation, particularly by improving body awareness, aspects of pain and health mint, however, their scientific evidence is still scarce. Objective: This study aimed to verify the influence of BAT sessions on body awareness in healthy young adults. Method: This is a clinical trial with a sample of young people between 18 and 25, healthy, of both genders, students of the degree course in physiotherapy FCT/UNESP. Data collection occurred in three phases: before the intervention, after the end of 16 sessions (immediate effect) and two months after the latter - follow up (late effect). In general each of these moments data were collected and applied BAQ questionnaire - Body Consciousness Questionnaire. How intervention, 16 sessions of BAT, once a week, lasting 50 minutes was performed. Results: The sample consisted of 28 individuals with 19.85 ± 1.54 years, five males and 23 females.
