Pelatihan Pendampingan Konflik pada Anak dilakukan di Kampung Tambak Mulyo yang merupakan Daerah dampingan Lembaga Pendamping Usaha Buruh Tani dan Nelayan Keuskupan Agung Semarang (LPUBTN-KAS). Pelatihan ini diberikan untuk orangtua di Kampung Tambak Mulyo yang memiliki anak berusia 2 sampai dengan 12 tahun. Pelatihan ini bertujuan memberikan pengetahuan kepada para orang tua agar dapat mendampingi anak yang sedang mengalami konflik. Pelatihan dilakukan secara luring dengan peserta berjumlah 22 orang ibu-ibu. Pelatihan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode psikoedukasi, diskusi kelompok dan role playing. Pelatihan ini dilakukan selama dua kali pertemuan dan diantara dua kali pertemuan tersebut ada tugas yang perlu dilakukan oleh peserta pelatihan, yaitu menerapkan cara-cara yang diberikan dalam materi pelatihan pada pertemuan pertama untuk didiskusikan dalam pertemuan pada pertemuan berikutnya. Much design software has been created to meet these needs, but these tools consider only a small part of the design process. This limitation stunts creativity and provides challenges to designers when trying to solve complex problems. Better tools take into account the needs of designers throughout the process of creating, analyzing, and optimizing designs. To provide the best integrated solutions, it is necessary to determine what features of analysis and optimization most help designers explore the solution space and ultimately create better physical designs. Tacit was developed as research tool to create simple designs with analysis and optimization built-in to the software. The most optimized version of Tacit was used as the control in a new study, which utilized two new versions excluding certain optimization features. A comparison between these versions was done to examine how optimization features impacted overall result, solution space exploration, and user experience. The usefulness of these optimization features is highly dependent on the type of problem being solved, and these features do not guarantee the best solution or sufficient exploration of the design space. Because of this, the engineering disciplines come with promise of good salaries and job security, but not all students choose engineering as a career path for the promise of jobs. In order to further understand their motivations, ten engineering students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology were interviewed and eighteen others completed an online survey pertaining to their personal motivations for choosing engineering as a career path. The interview and survey questions gathered demographic information from each of the participants, statements regarding why they chose to attend MIT and pursue engineering as a career path, self reported data on their high school, university, and intended professional extra curricular activities, and lastly a list of their important personal values. Combined, the results of analysis showed that the motivations of aspiring engineers can generally be grouped into three broad categories - intrinsic motivation, external influence, and extrinsic motivation. The intrinsic motivation for choosing engineering comes from a place of interest in the subject matter, and the problem solving mindset necessary in the field. External influence refers to the outside factors to the decision making process such as role models or past experiences. The extrinsic motivation comes from a place of potential for impact creation, and the promise of creating long lasting and meaningful change. This work focuses specifically on a stackable based storage solution in which machinery could stack and unstack different totes to stow and retrieve product. This is a descriptive thesis of the engineering design process - problem and goal identification, background research, functional requirements, creative idea generation and analysis, concept selection and iteration, design verification, and implementation - is used to propose a solution. Concept designs are primarily explored in CAD models. Designs are verified and analyzed for mechanical integrity through finite element analysis and manufacturing, packaging and assembly costs are analyzed to ensure feasible implementation. The proposed design weighed 3701b, had 82.5% GCU and took about 17.2 minutes to assemble. The manufacturing costs were $376.52; the packaging and logistics costs were $24.98 and $15.72 respectively; the onsite assembly costs resulted in $11.70. These facilities generally do not have the capital available to invest in new technologies and processes, and the extremely manual nature of garment fabrication is the standard as a result. As customers continue to demand quicker product turn-arounds and higher levels of customization, factories need to better understand their current process limitations in an effort to optimize their internal operations. Since most of these factories collect virtually no process data, managers have a hard time focusing on areas in which to improve. This project is approaching the question of "how can we use technology in a responsible and sustainable way to better understand our process?" from the perspective of a factory manager, who cannot necessarily invest in sophisticated software and hardware systems that other industries have adopted to monitor quality. As a result, this project focuses heavily on the user experience of both the operator (quality inspector) and the manager, as both need to be able to interact with the proposed data system easily and reliably. In response, many retailers are developing infrastructure and processes to handle the increased service levels (faster cycle time) that accompanies this digital volume. One challenge that arises during this transition is how to implement the new processes in existing, capital intensive, warehouses. This thesis presents methods for improving service performance by reducing wave cycle time in a large, multi-channel distribution center. By prioritizing digital consumers' orders, lower priority waves are consistently disrupted, which leads to extended wave cycle times and potentially delayed orders to wholesale customers. By analyzing historical data from distribution center operations, it is possible to test hypotheses and develop strategies for reducing cycle time. These hypotheses can then inform experiments to test the effects of operational changes. The impact of this work has been verified in two phases. In the first phase, improving transparency of lagging orders reduced average cycle time by 45%. To ensure the lamp was intuitive and fun to use, user testing was conducted. As the user interface (UI) for the lamp was designed and developed, tests were conducted with users using a variety of prototypes ranging from paper, cardboard, and plastic to PowerPoint storyboards on the computer. By incorporating user testing throughout the process of identifying possible button layouts as well as proper lamp proportions, a final intuitive UI with a single panel of buttons was converged upon. This UI utilized one button to switch through the four possible light modes instead of having a separate button for each mode. This UI will be employed in a future prototype that will be further tested with children in the intended age range. This paper focuses on comparing the cost of two potential shelf designs for storing product in an automated distribution center, a tray container style shelf and a stackable tote style shelf. Tray container style shelf has lower manufacturing costs, assembly cost and time, while stackable tote style shelf had competitive edge on packaging and shipping costs, and space utilization. The manufacturing cost, packaging cost, and shipping costs $174.44, $59.77, and $39.04 respectively for tray container shelf, and $380.83, $25.98, and $16.9 for stackable tote shelf. The assembly time and space utilization were 8 minutes and 81.5% for tray container shelf, and 17.2 minutes and 84.4% for stackable totes. Worldwide, LF contracts with over 13,000 factories. Frequently, these factories experience incidents, which are internally defined as "unplanned / unwanted events which have the potential to escalate or have already caused damage to stakeholders within the supply chain." In the factory context, this includes fires, labor strikes, and unauthorized subcontracting events, among others. Every incident costs the factories, LF, and the customers extensive time and resources to mitigate and recover from. Currently, LF manages incidents as they occur. Moving forward, LF strives to proactively mitigate risk by forecasting the probability that each factory in the supply chain will experience an incident. In addition to avoiding potential factory worker injuries, predicting risk will: (1) save LF time (and money) by being alert to incidents before they occur, (2) protect the LF reputation and maintain trust, and (3) demonstrate how LF is using advanced analytics to build a better supply chain. This project includes three primary components. First, an assessment to evaluate the impact of incidents on LF was performed, by investigating several case studies of different incident types in different regions of the world. Second, a predictive analytics model to forecast the probability that each factory will have an incident was developed, using historical internal and external data sources. Although many autonomous cleaning robots are available on the market, very few are appropriate for industrial applications and those that are often have slow cleaning rates and bulky, impractical sizes. By computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, prototyping, and testing, an improved option for such a robot was created with the capability of competing with current vacuums, a significantly smaller volume, and the ability to clean while moving at much faster speeds. The CFD was crucial in speeding up the iterative design process for the vacuum head as it eliminated the need for many physical iterations. Ultimately a second design is suggested but was not tested. Li & Fung is responsible for the supply of beauty products, furniture, and apparel, with the majority of sales in the apparel category. Li & Fung has developed strong relationships with a large portion of global retailers and maintains a leading market position in the global garment market. Furthermore, Li & Fung leverages a complex supply chain of over 16,000 partner factories across 40 countries. These factories employ hundreds of thousands of workers who perform the difficult work of producing a variety of garments. This large footprint of factories and employees results in an equally large environmental footprint. Although it is well known that the environmental impact is substantial, with researchers stating that the apparel industry is one of the largest global polluters, it has been difficult to quantify the business impact as a whole, let alone the impact of a single garment. Through this internship, the objective was to quantify the environmental impact of factories and products. This quantification will enhance decision-making and arm the business with a toolset to help factories improve and drive down impact in a targeted manner. Furthermore, these quantifications are manifested in product level footprints and factory metrics calculated with the use of internally generated data and external data. The internal data provided much of the backbone for the analysis and its collection was completed through an internally developed, proprietary tool. Amazon has heavily invested in automating its outbound product sortation process that merges picked items but has yet to develop automation for multi-item packing. Individual item manipulation has been proven very challenging to automate due to the over 500 million unique products offered. This thesis proposes a container manipulation solution that integrates industrial robotics and other equipment with upstream sortation technology to automate the packing process. A physical prototype was built to test the concept and measure proficiency in critical quality metrics such as item accuracy, product damage, and packing density/orientation. Additionally, an operational simulation for the system was developed to determine the optimal capacity sizing for the integrated sortation and packing system. Lastly, sensitivity analysis on a financial model was performed to optimize for the net present value (NPV) and payback period. After a series of controlled experiments and process improvements, the prototype produced promising results, given the rudimentary nature of the prototype. The system generated item accuracy defects at 2%, product damage defects at 2% and packing orientation defects at 17%. While these results are not adequate to be used in live operation, a development path to acceptable performance appears attainable. The Tacit web application expands these features to allow users to design truss structures with integrated analysis and optimization tools. Tacit was intended for single user inter- action, but much of engineering and design work is team-based and collaborative. To examine the effects of collaboration on design optimization problems, it is crucial for users to be able to easily share and view the structure designs of their teammate. This thesis presents a new version of Tacit with these collaboration features along with a new method for assessing the similarity of pairs of structures created by collaborators, and the results and analysis of a user study conducted where participants collaborated on design optimization problems with these new functionalities. Results showed that collaboration and the collaborative software tools were both effective in improving performance. As spectacular shows are a unique art form with unusual narrative structures and conventions and complex technical systems involved in their implementation, they present an intriguing case study for the design process. There exists almost no academic literature on the process used to effectively design and construct large scale entertainment experiences as virtually all of those projects are carried out in the private sector and any innovations required to complete the projects are documented in patents as opposed to academic publications. With a specific narrative goal in mind and distinct derivative works, a twelve minute show narrative was written and designed. Furthermore, the various production elements (set, lighting, audio, music, and control systems) were also designed and constructed to serve as an explicit implementation of the creative narrative. The show consists of three main 'acts', with individual beats and scenes, each of which fulfills a certain set of creative and technical design requirements. To evaluate the effect of integrating these capabilities within a single tool we conducted a controlled human subjects study. Three tools with different degrees of integration were created for two test cases of structural trusses, and it was found that increased integration improved quality, speed, and efficiency of the design process. After a quarter of their total time with the problems, 50% of designers with a fully integrated tool had a better design than 75% of other designers ever would. After that point, the top 50% of designers went on to explore a design space unreached with other tools. During this project, a user with restricted fine finger dexterity was considered in the design of a product that assists people with opening sealed packages. The primary user was first interviewed about his needs and limitations. After initial research was performed, the team ideated and completed basic sketches of products concepts. The user was again consulted for impressions and feedback about the variety of ideas, and the team continued by focusing on one broad concept and fleshing out the details. Once several different mock-ups of the chosen concept were made, they were presented to the user. His feedback then informed the design of a second round of prototypes. Inspired by an industry experience and MIT resources, she developed a curriculum that incorporated interactive activities and culminated into a design challenge for these homeschooled students. She surveyed their interests in and perceptions of engineering and design before and after this introductory course, and the students were 81% percent more interested in engineering and 80% in design after having taken the course. Both student and parent feedback, formally through surveys or informally through conversations, shared about the positive influence this course has had on bringing exposure of engineering and design to the students. This program achieved the researcher's goal of exciting students to consider pursuing engineering and design. These manufacturing technologies in the apparel industry range from electronic sewing machines that have been around for decades to the precision control robotics that are still in the development phase. We aim to demonstrate the benefit of technology adoption and catalog the barriers faced in implementation. To achieve this, the project first explores the extent of technology adoption within the Li & Fung supplier network through the use of the technical audit; a questionnaire which includes 5 technology related questions that are filled out on-site by a third party auditor. This analysis is then expanded through a vendor survey launched to hundreds of factories that asks additional questions around technology adoption. Finally, this analytical review of technology adoption is complemented by an in-depth design and implementation of a technology system, specifically an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) system, at a bottling factory. This study further demonstrates the potential impact of technology in factories and the challenges to implementation. In demonstrating the benefit of specific technologies, we are able to show a statistically significant correlation of higher performance with two technologies from the technical audit. Through our IIoT project, we also simulate how an inventory buffer optimized with the data gathered by the IIoT can increase productivity by as much as 34%.
