Introduction/Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate ideas and motivational attitudes of medical school students towards a healthy lifestyle and its components. Methods: The study was conducted from March until August 2017, at the Department of Medical Sociology, Healthcare Economics and Health Insurance and at N.A. Semashko Public Health and Healthcare Department, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. We ran a medical and sociological survey in 984 randomly selected students from eight Russian medical universities. Results: The article presents the results of the medical and sociological study aimed at assessing the ideas and motivational attitudes of medical students towards healthy lifestyle and its elements. Our research showed that students of medical schools, while recognizing the importance of preserving their own health, are still largely committed to an unhealthy lifestyle, secondly, they refuse sports activities even more often, and, thirdly, they prove not to be active enough when it comes to disease prevention and health preservation. Conclusion: Taking into consideration the obtained results, healthy lifestyle among students of medical schools is an exception rather than common practice.

One of the determinants of the birth rate trends is value system and attitudes of the population, especially young people. Increasingly building a successful career, achieving high social status and financial independence become the priorities of modern youth. The presence of children in this case could considered being a hindrance in achieving these goals. The emergence of the childfree phenomenon indicates the processes of changing the family-value orientations of the population. With the aim to analyze the attitude of the medical university students to the childfree phenomenon in dynamics, we conducted surveys among Sechenov University students in 2009 and 2019. A comparative analysis of the survey results allowed us to make conclusions about a decrease in the number of students with chronic diseases (54.0% and 63.9% respectively deny the presence of chronic diseases), a decrease in the number of students with bad habits (31.0% and 14.5% of students smoke, 16.0% and 9.2% drink alcohol, respectively), a decrease in the number of students with children from 20.0% to 2.3%, as well as an increase in the number of students who are not ready for independent childrearing from 59.0% to 76.2%. In addition, our findings show an increase in number of students aware about childfree phenomenon (from 36.0% to 84.8%) and a more loyal attitude towards it among students (3.0% in 2009 and 18.5% of students in 2019).

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern, and as a response, public health authorities started enforcing preventive measures like self-isolation and social distancing. The enforcement of isolation has consequences that may affect the lifestyle-related behavior of the general population. Quarantine encompasses a range of strategies that can be used to detain, isolate, or conditionally release individuals or populations infected or exposed to contagious diseases and should be tailored to circumstances. Interestingly, medical students may represent an example of how the COVID-19 pandemic can form new habits and change lifestyle behaviors. We conducted a web-based survey to assess changes in lifestyle-related behavior of self-isolated medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then we analyzed the sanitary-hygienic regulations of the Russian Federation to determine the requirements for healthy buildings. Results showed that during the pandemic, the enforcement of isolation affects medical students’ lifestyle-related behavior and accompanies an increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and healthy buildings are cutting-edge factors in preventing COVID-19 and NCDs. The Russian sanitary-hygienic regulations support improving this factor with suitable requirements for ventilation, sewage, waste management, and disinfection. Herein, assessing isolation is possible through the hygienic self-isolation index.

Broadly educated professionals are a rely valuable resource for the Russian public health system in the current socio-economic conditions. Their capability to flexibly switch the focus and content of their activities in the changing and challenging environment is essential for successful performance. The purpose of our study is to analyze the international evidence on managing the process of competencies’ development in healthcare managers. Competence-oriented education and training of future health-care managers is of special interest. In light of this, the study of international data on the organization of the processes of key competence development is important. Here with, it is necessary to take into account the content of the studies, resources and technologies, factors that influence on this process, the development and evaluation of models aimed at improvement of the education of healthcare management professionals at medical schools. We believe that the results of this review will help to develop and offer a number of practical steps aimed at optimizing the education and training of healthcare managers. In addition to a review of international data, this article presents an innovative project for the development of professional competencies of health managers – the Academy of Talent Development in Healthcare (ATDH). This project involves students of the Sechenov University who want to learn how to lead healthcare teams efficiently.
