Maize disease has been one of the common problems for farmers in the Philippines as reported by the Bureau of Plant Industry. The usual process done by farmers is they would need to submit a photo of the possible disease they want to check and wait for the Bureau of Plant Industry to validate what kind of disease it is. This usually takes time and the disease would worsen before the validation would be done. The proposed study by the researcher is to determine the status of the Maize if it is healthy or is infected by a common maize disease which are Gray Leaf Spot, Leaf Rust, and Northern Leaf Blight. The study used an image processing technique which is the Gray-Level Segmentation and Edge-Detection Technique for image pre-processing which is processed by TensorFlow and Keras under a python module to train and create the model using Convolutional Neural Network. Using the open-source dataset provided by PlantVillage, a neural network model for the common maize disease stated by the Bureau of Plant Industry has been created. The study used a Raspberry Pi 3B to classify the status of the Maize in question due to the portability of the device. Using the combined image processing technique, the overall accuracy for the detection rate of the system prosed has achieved 92.50% and having the precision rate with 92.50%.

This paper focuses on classifying vehicle types into car, van, motorcycle, bus, light truck, multi-axle truck and determine its class based on the Philippine Toll Regulatory Board’s vehicle classification. This study utilized DEvol, an open-source tool that uses genetic algorithm for evolving number of filters and nodes, optimizer, activation, dropout rate. The model attained the best accuracy with 78.53% using 9000 images from MIO-TCD dataset.

This research proposes a method for automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) using the Faster R-CNN with InceptionV2 feature extractor that works in the Philippines. While there exist character recognition systems, there still remains difficulty in recognition due to different variations of Philippine license plates. By training a deep neural network in the extraction of the features in images of the different types of Philippine license plates – 1981, 2003, 2014, and others – our proposed multi-class detection system can recognize the alphanumeric characters in the license plate images. The system was tested on actual traffic images in the Philippines that contains different types of license plates, and achieved the detection rate of 90.011%, recognition rate of 93.21% and an overall accuracy of 83.895%.

The advancement of image and video processing using Artificial Intelligence (AI) have brought more significance to the role of Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems in law enforcement and intelligent transport systems (ITS). However, the adaptation of such a system in the Philippines has been a challenge due to the different variations of Philippine license plates. In this paper, a neural network-based model for the detection and classification of different Philippine license plate formats is proposed. The proposed method classifies license plates into four categories — 1981, 2003, 2014, and other series.

BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to improve attachment of automatic tracheostoma valves, the knowledge on tracheostoma geometry, and its clinical influences preferred. This article investigates whether the number of removed trachea rings, incision of the sternocleidomastoid muscles, neck dissection, reconstruction, time after operation, and age have any effect on the (peri)stomal geometry of the patient.Methods(Peri)stomas of 191 patients from 10 institutes worldwide were photographed, measured, and compared.ResultsPaired comparisons between the number of trachea rings removed showed significant differences in horizontal and vertical trachea-opening diameters, but failed to demonstrate an effect in the depth of the stoma. T tests did not demonstrate significant differences in peristomal geometry between the sternocleidomastoid-cleaved and non-cleaved group.ConclusionThe number of removed tracheal rings during laryngectomy does not seem to influence stoma depth. However, this study does not demonstrate that cleaving the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) at the time of a laryngectomy will result in a geometrically flatter stoma.

Alginate beads have numerous biomedical applications, ranging from cell encapsulation to drug release. The present study focuses on the controlled release of glucose from calcium-alginate beads. The effects of alginate concentrations (1–6 wt %) and calcium chloride concentrations (0.1–1.0M) on glucose release from beads were examined. It was found that the time required for complete glucose release from beads could be tuned from 15 min to over 2 h, simply by varying alginate and calcium chloride concentrations in beads. For calcium-alginate beads with sodium alginate concentrations of 1–4 wt %, higher sodium alginate concentrations lead to more prolonged release of glucose and thus a smaller value of a rate constant k, a parameter shown to be proportional to the diffusion coefficient of glucose in the alginate gel. For beads with sodium alginate concentrations of 4–6 wt %, there was no statistically significant difference in k values, indicating a lower limit for glucose release from calcium-alginate beads. Similarly, higher calcium chloride concentrations appear to extend glucose release, however, no conclusive trend can be drawn from the data. In a 50 : 50 mixture of calcium-alginate beads of two different alginate concentrations (1 and 4 wt %), glucose release showed a two-step profile over the time range of 20–50 min, indicating that the pattern and time of glucose release from beads can be tuned by making combinations of beads with varying alginate and/or calcium chloride concentrations. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
