Starting point of this paper is the «Judgment of the European Court of Human Rights – 06/30/16 – Action no. 51362/09 – Taddeucci and McCall c. Italy», which sentenced the Italian government for not having granted residence permit due to family reasons to McCall, Taddeucci’s partner. Thanks to the recent approval of the law 76/2016 on Civil Unions, the right to family cohesion for homosexual couples has been fully recognized. In fact, since 02/11/17, the foreign partner of a same sex couple is allowed to apply for the Italian citizenship. This paper aims to identify the consistency of this type of phenomenon and to investigate the social and cultural dynamics that emerge from it. The analysis focuses on the emergence of family models, which determine different perceptions, capable of producing homophobic attitudes, sometimes associated with racial discrimination.
