We report here that the sequence ofP. vulgaris mitochondrial and cytoplasmic tRNALeu (NAA) are identical except for a post-transcriptional modification. There is an unidentified modification at the “wobble” position which, from the sequence of the nuclear tRNALeu gene, we identify as a derivative of C. We also show that thisP. vulgaris nuclear gene is functional by demonstrating its transcription in anin vivo eukaryotic transcription system.

Bean mitochondrial tRNA Phe, purified by RPC-5 chromatography and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, has been sequenced using in vitro post-labeling techniques. It is the first plant mitochondrial tRNA sequenced. It shows 76% homology with bean chloroplast tRNA Pheand has many features characteristic of prokaryotic tRNAs Phe. It was used as a probe to localize the tRNA Phegene on the mitochondrial genomes of maize and wheat.

We have used bean mitochondrial (mt) and chloroplast (cp) tRNATrp as probes to locate the corresponding genes on the mt and cp genomes of wheat and we have determined the nucleotide sequences of the wheat mt and cp tRNATrp genes and of the flanking regions. Sequence comparisons show that the wheat mt and cp tRNATrp genes are 97% homologous.

The article discusses the development of intumescent unsaturated polyester resin and gelcoats by CCP Composites for use by the railway industry. The resin and gelcoats are considered fire-resistant lightweight materials for use in the production of railway composite parts. They can also contribute to the goal of the railway industry to reduce energy requirements and carbon emissions. The combustion mode, environmental assessment, and features of the resin and gelcoats are provided.
