Interoperability is defined as the ability of a system or device to communicate between different technologies and software applications. This allows the exchange and use of data in an efficient, precise, and robust way. The present article gives researchers and healthcare information systems developers a qualitative and quantitative synthesis of the state of knowledge related to data formats and data standards proposed for mHealth devices interoperability in healthcare information systems that retrieve and store ECG data. We carry out a scoping review to answer to following questions: (1) What digital data formats or data standards have been proposed for the interoperability of electrocardiograph data between traditional healthcare information systems and mobile healthcare information systems? (2) What are the advantages and disadvantages of these data formats or data standards? The scoping review was conducted in four databases in accordance with the JBI methodology for scoping reviews, and in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A total of 4018 studies were identified of which 30 studies met the inclusion criteria. Based on our findings, we identify four standards and nine formats for capturing and storing streaming ECG data in mobile health applications. The standards used were HL7, SCP-ECG, x73-PHD, and PDF/A. Formats include CSV, PDF-ECG, and seven XML-based formats. These are ECG-XML, HL7-XML, mPCG-XML, mECGML, JSON, SaECG, and CDA R2.

Los Satélites de Arquitectura Segmentada (SAS) son un tipo de SAD, donde dos o más satélites pequeños y simples, denominados segmentos, cumplen una función similar a la de un satélite monolítico tradicional. Algunos términos relacionados con SAS son: vuelo en formación, redes espaciales, instrumentos partidos y navegación en clúster, siendo éste último el tema particular de la presente investigación. Ésta propone centrarse en aspectos relacionados con la navegación relativa entre los segmentos, y su uso para el guiado y control de forma autónoma.

This research provides a first approach to the assessment of the health benefits and health costs that would be generated in Mexicali if there were or were not control measures implemented, which could create an impact in the decrease of concentrations of particulate matter ≤ 10 micrometers in aerodynamic diameter (PM 10 ) in the air of the city. Several different scenarios were established to study the projected impact for the 2013─2020 periods. The public health benefits (PHB) are calculated based on the exposure-response function (ERF) estimated using local data, as well as ERF obtained from scientific literature applied previously in local mexican studies. Using a discount rate of 3 %, total costs and total social benefits are brought to present value and are shown as a percentage of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) reported in 2011. In Mexicali, the study estimates that if there were no measures taken to reduce PM 10 pollution in the studied years, there would be a social cost of around $1659 (lower value: $1164, higher value: $2503) millions of dollars for the period (2013─2020). This represents 5.59 % (3.92 %, 8.43 %) of the GDP. If there were measures taken to reduce the PM 10 concentrations by about 8 % a year, in order to comply with the federal standards in 2020, there would be savings of around $633 ($444, $955) millions of dollars for the studied period. This would represent 2.13 % (1.50 %, 3.22 %) of the GDP. This study justifies the implementation of control measures for air pollution in Mexicali.

RESUMEN La problemática de las personas con capacidades diferentes y en especial de las personas amputadas, es de gran impacto en nuestra sociedad. Las prótesis actuales plantean soluciones que se alejan de las expectativas de un amputado, ya que por su elevado costo no son accesibles para la mayoría de los afectados. Esta investigación involucra la construcción de un molde para la fabricación de un prototipo de prótesis transtibial, cuyo objetivo es desarrollar una metodología de diseño, fabricación y que sea de bajo costo. Existe una gran cantidad de materiales que pueden ser utilizados en un miembro protésico, en esta experimentación se utilizó un material compuesto de fibra de carbono 3K y resina epóxica, de los cuales se realizaron pruebas de tensión bajo la norma ASTM D3039 con orientación de [0/90/±45]s donde se obtuvo una carga máxima de 14276,25 N, tomando así como base los resultados obtenidos del material para llevar a cabo la fabricación del primer prototipo de prótesis transtibial el cual fue manufacturado con la técnica propuesta en esta investigación. Una vez fabricado fue sometido a pruebas de carga estática bajo el ISO 10328, donde se comprobó el laminado que se utilizó además de la metodología sugerida, se corroboró la reducción considerable en tiempo de manufactura, peso y costo promedio en relación a las prótesis comerciales. ABSTRACT The problematic of handicap people, especially amputees, significantly impacts to the society. Existing prosthesis gives solutions that discourage amputee’s expectations; high costs are not often accessible for most of them. This research includes a methodology for construction of a prototype mold for manufacturing a generic foot prosthetic, Whose objective is to develop a methodology of design, manufacture and that is of low cost. There are a large number of materials that can be used in a prosthetic limb, in this experiment a composite material of 3K carbon fiber and epoxy resin was used, of which stress tests were performed under ASTM D3039 with orientation of [0/90/ ± 45] s where a maximum load of 14276,25 N was obtained, taking as a basis the results obtained from the material to carry out the manufacture of the first prototype transtibial prosthesis which was manufactured with the technique proposed in this investigation. Once fabricated, it was subjected to static load tests under ISO 10328, where the laminate was tested, which was used in addition to the suggested methodology. The considerable reduction in manufacturing time, weight and average cost in relation to commercial prostheses was corroborated.

[EN] Chagas disease (CD), which mostly affects those living in deprived areas, has become one of Latin America's main public health problems. Effective prevention of the disease requires early diagnosis, initiation of therapy, and regular blood monitoring of the infected individual. However, the majority of the Trypanosoma cruzi infections go undiagnosed because of mild symptoms, limited access to medical attention and to a high variability in the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests. Consequently, more affordable and accessible detection technologies capable of providing early diagnosis and T. cruzi load measurements in settings where CD is most prevalent are needed to enable enhanced intervention strategies. This work analyzes the potential contribution of biosensing technologies, reviewing examples that have been tested and contrasted with traditional methods, both serological and parasitological (i.e., molecular detection by PCR), and discusses some emerging biosensing technologies that have been applied for this public health issue. Even if biosensing technologies still require further research efforts to develop portable systems, we arrive at the conclusion that biosensors could improve the accuracy of CD diagnosis and the follow-up of patients' treatments in terms of the rapidity of results, small sample volume, high integration, ease of use, real-time and low cost detection when compared with current conventional technologies., M.I.R.-G., F.S. and D.B. thank the Agence National de la Recherche (ANR), for its financial support by granting the international AWESOM project. Compelling evidence indicates that exposure to urban airborne particulate matter (PM) affects health. However, how PM components interact with PM-size to cause adverse health effects needs elucidation, especially when considering soil and anthropogenic sources. We studied PM from Mexicali, Mexico, where soil particles contribute importantly to air pollution, expecting to differentiate in vitro effects related to PM-size and composition. PM samples with mean aerodynamic diameters ≤2.5μm (PM(2.5)) and ≤10μm (PM(10)) were collected in Mexicali (October 2005-March 2006) from a semi-urban (expected larger participation of soil sources) and an urban (predominately combustion sources) site. Samples were pooled by site and size, analyzed for elemental composition (particle-induced X-ray emission) and tested in vitro for: induction of human erythrocytes membrane disruption (hemolysis) (colorimetrically); inhibition of cell proliferation (ICP) (crystal violet) and TNFα/IL-6 secretion (ELISA) using J774.A1 murine monocytic cells; and DNA degradation using Balb/c3T3 cell naked DNA (electrophoretically). Results of PM elemental composition principal component analysis were used in associating cellular effects. Sixteen elements identified in PM grouped in two principal components: Component(1) (C(1)): Mg, Al, Si, P, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, and Component(2) (C(2)): Cu, Zn. Hemolysis was predominately induced by semi-urban-PM(10) (p0.05) and was associated with urban-PM(10)C(1) (r=0.62, p=0.003). Major ICP resulted with semi-urban PM(2.5) (p0.05). TNFα was mainly induced by urban samples regardless of size (p0.05) and associated with urban-PM(2.5)C(2) (r=0.48, p=0.02). Both PM(10) samples induced highest DNA degradation (p0.05), regardless of location. We conclude that PM-size and PM-related soil or anthropogenic elements trigger specific biological-response patterns.

Los Potenciales Tardíos Ventriculares (PTV) son componentes de señal electrocardiográfica (ECG), que aparecen en la parte Terminal del complejo QRS y/o al inicio del segmento ST. Estos suelen tener amplitudes del orden de los micro-voltios, los cuales con frecuencia son usados como marcadores no-invasivos en la prognosis de riesgo de muerte súbita cardiaca; sobre todo en aquellas personas que se recuperan de un infarto de miocardio. Para poder detectarlos, se requiere de registros ECG conocidos como de alta resolución (ECGAR). En el Internet se pueden encontrar algunas señales de este tipo, con el inconveniente de que o provienen de registros adquiridos con electrocardiografía ambulatoria (Holter) y/o fueron tomadas de personas con genética distinta a la hispanoamericana. Es necesario contar con bases de datos con esta clase de señales que permitan estudiar su prognosis de riesgo de muerte basada en los PTV que se detecten. Estas bases de datos de ECGAR propias, pudieran producirse de dos maneras: (1) Existen en el mercado algunos equipos especializados para generar señales ECGAR, pero suelen ser muy caros y por lo regular son sistemas cerrados; es decir, los ECGAR son generados en formatos que únicamente su sistema reconoce y no permite su manipulación con otro tipo de software, por ejemplo MatLab o LabView. La otra opción posible es mediante la construcción de un Electrocardiógrafo de Alta Resolución (EKGAR). En este trabajo se presenta la propuesta de construcción de un EKGAR, que se está desarrollando en apoyo a las necesidades de la línea de investigación en Potenciales Tardíos Ventriculares del Cuerpo Académico de Bioingeniería y Salud Ambiental de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC). El desarrollo de este EKGAR permitirá construir una base de datos para el estudio de pacientes postinfartados con riesgo de muerte cardiaca súbita de la localidad.

El gas radón produce problemas de contaminación radiológica ambiental, por lo que es importante determinar y conocer los niveles intradomiciliarios. La Environmental Protecction Agency (EPA), considera a este gas como la segunda causa de cáncer del pulmón después del tabaquismo. En este trabajo se midieron las concentraciones de gas radón (Rn 222) en 25 hogares de la ciudad de Mexicali, BC, con el objeto de explorar sus niveles; posteriormente usarlos de referencia en programas de salud pública. Las muestras se ubicaron en dos estratos, colonias con servicio de pavimentación y colonias sin este servicio; el muestreo se llevó a cabo durante los meses de enero y febrero del 2005, utilizando Kits de pruebas cortas de carbón activado que cumplen con la normatividad de la EPA. Estas pruebas se enviaron a los EUA al Alpha Energy Laboratories para su análisis. En los resultados se encontró un valor promedio de 0.792 pCi/L de aire y de 0.7310 pCi/L de aire para los estratos no pavimentados y pavimentados respectivamente. El promedio general fue de 0.760 pCi/L aire.

Mexicali is the third most contaminated city in Mexico and the second city in the country with the highest level of particles smaller than 10 micrometers in diameter (PM10). It continuously fails to meet annual air quality standards (50 μg/m3). Mexicalis U.S. neighbor, the Imperial County, has the same geographical characteristics, and is in non-attainment for PM10, ozone, and carbon monoxide. One health condition associated with high PM10 levels is asthma and both Imperial Valley and Mexicali have the highest child asthma indices for their respective states of California and Baja California. PM10 is primarily formed naturally, from dust and pollen, but anthropogenic sources are gaining importance due to an accelerated growth in this bi-national basin. Thermoelectric plants recently constructed are an example of this accelerated growth and their construction prompts bi-national concern in a basin with an already deteriorated air quality. There are a limited number of published documents focusing on Mexicalis and Imperial Countys health or environment. Only a few articles contain data on PM10 levels or respiratory illnesses (including asthma), and even less jointly report on health conditions and the environment. This lack of information has produced flawed and unproductive environmental policy in the U.S.-Mexican border region. A model based on the Poisson regression was used to study the impact PM10 may have had on primary respirator y diseases given the temperature and relative humidity in the Imperial Valley-Mexicali basin. The years 1997 to 2000 were measured in series by seasons. Air quality data, specifically PM10 data, were supplied by a regional network of air monitoring stations in the Imperial Valley and Mexicali. Health data, including asthma, acute respiratory infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia were obtained from Baja California public health centers and the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, Healthcare Quality and Analysis Division.
