Abstract

Several new bands have been identified in 130Ba, among which there is one with band-head spin 8+. Its properties are in agreement with the Fermi-aligned \nu h11/2^2 , 7/2+[523] \otimes 9/2-[514] Nilsson configuration. This is the first observation of a two-quasiparticle t-band in the A=130 mass region. The t-band is fed by a dipole band involving two additional h11/2 protons. The odd-spin partners of the proton and neutron S-bands and the ground-state band at high spins are also newly identified. The observed bands are discussed using several theoretical models, which strongly suggest the coexistence of prolate and oblate shapes polarized by rotation aligned two-proton and two-neutron configurations, as well as prolate collective rotations around axes with different orientations. With the new results, 130Ba presents one of the best and most complete sets of collective excitations that a gamma-soft nucleus can manifest at medium and high spins, revealing a diversity of shapes and rotations for the nuclei in the A = 130 mass region., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

Abstract

International audience; Excited states in Ba131 and Ce133 were studied using in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy through the Sn122(C13,4n)Ba131 and Te125(C12,4n)Ce133 reactions, respectively. A strongly coupled band, associated with the νg7/2[404]7/2+ configuration, was identified in Ba131 and Ce133. It is the first time to observe the νg7/2[404]7/2+ bands in the N=75 isotones. The signature partners exhibit considerable energy splitting in comparison with those in the πg7/2[404]7/2+ bands in the odd-A Ta and Re isotopes. Extensive cranked shell model and quasiparticle-plus-triaxial-rotor model calculations reveal the origin of the signature splitting, which depends not only on the triaxiality, but also on the configuration mixing with nearby low-j orbitals.

Abstract

International audience; The high-spin states in Ba130 have been investigated using the Sn122(C13,5n) reaction and the GALILEO array coupled to the EUCLIDES and Neutron Wall ancillary detectors. The level scheme has been extended to an excitation energy of ≈12 MeV and spin 28. Two sets of pseudospin partner bands have been identified built on πh11/2(g7/2,d5/2) and νh11/2(s1/2,d3/2) configurations. The assignments are supported by calculations using the projected shell model and the particle rotor model.

Abstract

Background: The γ softness of 136Nd makes it possible to study the shape changes induced by two-proton or two-neutron excitation. Purpose: We measure the lifetimes of two-quasiparticle states of the bands based on the 10+ states at 3296 and 3279 keV to investigate the shape change induced by the alignment of two protons or two neutrons in the h11/2 orbital. Methods: The recoil-distance Doppler shift method was used for the study of 136Nd studies, which was formed by the fusion reaction 120Sn(20Ne, 4n)136Nd, at Ebeam = 85 MeV. Calculations were performed within the microscopic-macroscopic approach, based on the deformed Woods-Saxon single-particle potential and the Yukawa-plus-exponential macroscopic energy. Results: The lifetime of the 10+ state at 3279 keV of 136Nd was measured to be T 10+1/2 = 1.63(9) ns. The lifetimes of the 2+ state at 374 keV and of the 12+ state at 3686 keV of the ground band were also measured to be T 2+1/2 = 26.5(14) ps and T 12+1/2 = 22.5(14) ps. Conclusions: The measured lifetime of 10+ the state at 3279 keV together with other observables confirm the structure change in 136Nd. A rather small reduced hindrance of the electromagnetic decay of the 10+ state at 3279 keV would be consistent with its K-mixed character.

Abstract

Three nearly degenerate pairs of doublet bands are identified in Ba-131. Two of them, with positive-parity, are interpreted as pseudospin-chiral quartet bands. This is the first time that a complete set of chiral doublet bands built on the pseudospin partners pi(d(5/2), g(7/2)) is observed. The chiral bands with opposite parity built on 3-quasiparticle configurations are directly connected by many E1 transitions, without involving an intermediary non-chiral configuration. The observed band structures in Ba-131 have been investigated by using the reflection-asymmetric particle rotor model. The energies and the electromagnetic transition ratios of the three pairs of doublet bands observed in Ba-131 are reproduced and they are interpreted as chiral doublet bands with three-quasiparticle configurations. Abstract

The band built on the Kπ = 8−, T1/2 = 9.4 ms isomer of 130Ba has been identified, filling the gap in the systematics of the dipole bands built on the 8− isomers in the N = 74 isotones from 128Xe to 138Gd. The use of the GALILEO array in conjunction with its ancillaries EUCLIDES and Neutron Wall, helped to firmly place the newly identified transitions on top of the long-lived isomer. The extracted gK and gR gyromagnetic factors are in agreement with the 7/2+[404] ⊗ 9/2−[514] two-neutron Nilsson configuration. Particle-rotor model calculations give an understanding of the limited degree of K mixing. The experimental information on the Kπ = 8− isomer of 130Ba is now the most complete among the K isomers of the N = 74 isotones.

Abstract

International audience; Lifetimes of several short-lived excited states in Nd138 were measured with the ROSPHERE array at IFIN-HH, Bucharest, using the recoil-distance Doppler shift technique following the Sb123(F19,4n) reaction. The resulting electromagnetic transition probabilities are compared to large-scale shell model calculations and to constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with the Gogny D1S interaction, configuration mixing, and a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian formalism. The onset of collectivity in Nd isotopes below the N=82 shell closure and the deformation induced by the alignment of protons and neutron holes in the h11/2 orbitals are discussed.

International audience; The g factor of the 56 ns half-life isomeric state in $^{128}$Cs has been measured using the time-differential perturbed angular distribution method. This state is the bandhead of the positive-parity chiral rotational band, which emerges when an unpaired proton, an unpaired neutron hole, and an even-even core are coupled such that their angular momentum vectors are aplanar (chiral configuration). g-factor measurements can give important information on the relative orientation of the three angular momentum vectors. The measured g factor g=+0.59(1) shows that there is an important contribution of the core rotation in the total angular momentum of the isomeric state. Moreover, a quantitative theoretical analysis supports the conclusion that the three angular momentum vectors lie almost in one plane, which suggests that the chiral configuration in $^{128}$Cs demonstrated in previous works by characteristic patterns of electromagnetic transitions appears only above some value of the total nuclear spin.

Abstract

International audience; In the region around 132Sn, the structure of even-even nuclei demonstrates diverse phenomenon including the transition between some typical quadrupole collective states. The doubly magic isotopic chain of Sn-isotopes seems to be the most interesting mass-region to be studied. Several theoretical and experimental studies have been focused in this mass region, recently [1]. The low-lying spectroscopy of these nuclei is one of the most powerful sources of information about nuclear shapes and shape transitions. Experimental/adopted B(E2↑) values for this mass-region are depicted in Fig. 1.

Abstract

International audience; The properties of the K-isomer decays in the 134 Nd and 184 Pt nuclei have been investigated. Measurements were carried out in e-γ and γ-γ coincidence modes using electron spectrometers coupled to the central European Array for Gamma Levels Evaluations at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw. Internal conversion coefficients were obtained for transitions relevant to the decay of the isomeric states, allowing the determination of multipolarities and mixing ratios as well as hindrance factors. Two possible causes of the weakening of the K forbiddenness, namely rotational K mixing (Coriolis interaction) and triaxiality, are briefly discussed using schematic theoretical models.

Abstract

The electromagnetic structure of 140Sm was studied in a low-energy Coulomb excitation experiment with a radioactive ion beam from the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. The 2+ and 4+ states of the ground-state band and a second 2+ state were populated by multistep excitation. The analysis of the differential Coulomb excitation cross sections yielded reduced transition probabilities between all observed states and the spectroscopic quadrupole moment for the 2+ 1 state. The experimental results are compared to large-scale shell model calculations and beyond-mean-field calculations based on the Gogny D1S interaction with a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian formalism. Simpler geometric and algebraic models are also employed to interpret the experimental data. The results indicate that 140Sm shows considerable γ softness, but in contrast to earlier speculation no signs of shape coexistence at low excitation energy. Abstract

Electromagnetic transition strengths and spectroscopic quadrupole moments for Sm-140 were measured by means of multi-step Coulomb excitation with radioactive beam at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. A complementary experiment was performed at the Heavy Ion Laboratory in Warsaw to assign spins for non-yrast states using the angular correlation technique. Based on the new experimental data previous spin assignments need to be revised.

Abstract

To determine the shape of 132Ba Coulomb excitation measurement has been performed at U-200P cyclotron at Heavy Ion Laboratory, University of Warsaw, Poland. A 32S beam of ~90 MeV energy has been bombarded on enriched 132Ba-target to Coulomb excite the latter nuclei. EAGLE gamma-ray spectrometer consisting of 15 single crystal HPGe detectors has been used to detect the deexcited gamma-rays from Coulomb excited Ba nuclei. The data has been collected using Particle-gamma coincidence technique for a period of seven days. The back scattered projectiles have been identified with 48 PiN diodes of 0.5 X 0.5 cm² active area mounted in a scattering chamber of ~5 cm radius called as ‘Munich chamber’. The energy states up to ~1127 keV energy have been populated in the interested 132Ba isotope. The preliminary results of the data analysis are presented here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Low-lying excited states of 104Pd were investigated by means of Coulomb excitation using the 32S beam. Gamma-ray spectra resulting from the deexcitation of these levels were measured with the EAGLE gamma-ray spectrometer at the Heavy Ion Laboratory, University ofWarsaw. The first three excited states above the ground state up to 6+ level were populated alongwith the low-lying non-yrast states. Excitation of the 3- state at 2194 keV energy was also observed. Abstract

The spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking was experimentally studied at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw by use of the DSAM and DCO analysis. Obtained lifetimes, branching ratios and E2/M1 mixing ratios were used to determine B(M1) and B(E2) values. Abstract

Preliminary results of DSA lifetime measurements in the partner bands of 124Cs are presented. The 124Cs nucleus was produced in the 114Cd(14N,4n)124Cs reaction at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw. A phenomenon of spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking in 124Cs nucleus is discussed. Abstract

The previously accepted spin values of the 991 and 1599 keV levels in 140Sm have been revised and established as 2+ and 0(+), respectively. The γ-γ angular correlation method was used to determine the new spin values. The excited low-spin levels in 140Sm were populated in the 140Eu→ 140Sm and 140Gd 140Eu→ 140Sm decays. Abstract

Background: The chain of Sm isotopes exhibits a wide range of nuclear shapes and collective behavior. While the onset of deformation for N>82 has been well studied both experimentally and theoretically, fundamental data is lacking for some Sm isotopes with N<82. Purpose: Electromagnetic transition rates represent a sensitive test of theoretical nuclear structure models. Lifetime measurements are furthermore complementary to Coulomb excitation experiments, and the two methods together can give access to spectroscopic quadrupole moments. Method: The lifetime of the 21+ state in 140Sm was measured with the recoil-distance Doppler shift technique using the reaction 124Te(20Ne, 4n)140Sm at 82 MeV. Theoretical calculations were performed based on a mapped collective Hamiltonian in five quadrupole coordinates (5DCH) and the Gogny D1S interaction. Results: The lifetime of the 21+ state in 140Sm was found to be 9.1(6) ps, corresponding to a B(E2;21+→0+1) value of 51(4) Weisskopf units. The theoretical calculations are in very good agreement with the experimental result. Conclusions: The B(E2;21+→0+1) value for 140Sm fits smoothly into the systematic trend for the chain of Sm isotopes. The new beyond-mean field calculations are able to correctly describe the onset of collectivity in the Sm isotopes below the N=82 shell closure for the first time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: The γ softness of 136Nd makes it possible to study the shape changes induced by two-proton or two-neutron excitation. Purpose: We measure the lifetimes of two-quasiparticle states of the bands based on the 10+ states at 3296 and 3279 keV to investigate the shape change induced by the alignment of two protons or two neutrons in the h11/2 orbital. Methods: The recoil-distance Doppler shift method was used for the study of 136Nd studies, which was formed by the fusion reaction 120Sn(20Ne,4n)136Nd, at Ebeam=85 MeV. Calculations were performed within the microscopic-macroscopic approach, based on the deformed Woods-Saxon single-particle potential and the Yukawa-plus-exponential macroscopic energy. Results: The lifetime of the 10+ state at 3279 keV of 136Nd was measured to be T10+1/2=1.63(9) ns. The lifetimes of the 2+ state at 374 keV and of the 12+ state at 3686 keV of the ground band were also measured to be T2+1/2=26.5(14) ps and T12+1/2=22.5(14) ps. Conclusions: The measured lifetime of 10+ the state at 3279 keV together with other observables confirm the structure change in 136Nd. A rather small reduced hindrance of the electromagnetic decay of the 10+ state at 3279 keV would be consistent with its K-mixed character. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The g factor of the 56 ns half-life isomeric state in 128Cs has been measured using the time-differential perturbed angular distribution method. This state is the bandhead of the positive-parity chiral rotational band, which emerges when an unpaired proton, an unpaired neutron hole, and an even-even core are coupled such that their angular momentum vectors are aplanar (chiral configuration). g-factor measurements can give important information on the relative orientation of the three angular momentum vectors. The measured g factor g=+0.59(1) shows that there is an important contribution of the core rotation in the total angular momentum of the isomeric state. Moreover, a quantitative theoretical analysis supports the conclusion that the three angular momentum vectors lie almost in one plane, which suggests that the chiral configuration in 128Cs demonstrated in previous works by characteristic patterns of electromagnetic transitions appears only above some value of the total nuclear spin.
