Abstract This study aim was to evaluate the need for orthodontic treatment of mixed to permanent dentition using the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) in a 4-year follow-up. A longitudinal study was conducted with 353 children in the stages from mixed (T1) to permanent (T2) dentition. The need for orthodontic treatment was assessed using the DAI categorized into: DAI 1 (absence of malocclusion and orthodontic treatment need; DAI ≤ 25); DAI 2 (malocclusion is defined and elective orthodontic treatment is needed; DAI = 26 to 30); DAI 3 (severe malocclusion and a desirable orthodontic treatment need; DAI = 31 to 35) and DAI 4 (severe malocclusion and a mandatory orthodontic treatment need; DAI ≥ 36). IntroductionThis study aimed to investigate whether individualizing autonomic recovery periods between resistance training (RT) sessions (IND) using heart rate variability (HRV), measured by the root mean square of successive R-R interval differences (RMSSD), would lead to greater and more consistent improvements in muscle strength, muscle mass, and functional performance in older women compared to a fixed recovery protocol (FIX).MethodsTwenty-one older women (age 66.0 ± 5.0 years old) were randomized into two different protocols (IND: n = 11; FIX: n = 10) and completed 7 weeks of RT. Measurements of RMSSD were performed within a five-day period to establish baseline values. The RMSSD values determined whether participants were recovered from the previous session. The assessments included muscle cross-sectional area (CSA), one-repetition maximum (1RM), peak torque (PT), rate of force development (RFD), chair stand (CS), timed up and go (TUG), 6-minutes walking (6MW), and maximum gait speed (MGS).ResultsThere were no significant (P > 0.05) group vs. time interactions. There were significant main effects of time (P < 0.05) for CSA, 1RM, PT, TUG, CS, 6MW, and MGS, while no significant changes were observed for RFD (P > 0.05).ConclusionIND does not seem to enhance responses in muscle mass, strength, and functional performance compared FIX in healthy older women.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes to dental care, which may have affected pediatric dental care offered in primary healthcare settings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the quantity of dental procedures performed in primary healthcare for children aged 6 to 12 years, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This is an ecological study using data from the health information system of Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil. The variables considered were: coverage of first programmed dental consultation, restoration of permanent and deciduous teeth, topical fluoride application (individual per session), emergency care, and deciduous tooth extraction. Two periods were considered: period I (March 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020) and period II (April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021), before and during the pandemic, respectively. Comparisons between periods were made using the paired nonparametric Wilcoxon test with a significance level of 5%. Results There was an increase in emergency care from 15.4 to 32.4% (p = 0.0095) and a decrease in the number of restorations of deciduous teeth from 32.8 to 20.2% (p = 0.0217). The first programmed consultation showed a decrease of 9.60% (p = 0.0930) in period II. Conclusions The COVID-19 pandemic has hindered access to primary dental care for children, impacting the quantity of emergency care, reducing restorations of deciduous teeth, and first programmed dental consultations. These findings highlight the need for strategies to ensure that pediatric dental care is not neglected during pandemics.

This cross-sectional study aimed to assess whether levels of anxiety, perceived stress, and self-perception of happiness during the Covid-19 pandemic were lower among Tai Chi (TC) practitioners. An online questionnaire was applied from September 2020 to November 2021 through email list and instant messaging application "WhatsApp". In total 368 individuals, 341 of whom did not practice TC, coming from a university and sports academies and 27 TC practitioners from the Brazilian Society of TC and Oriental Culture were included. Sociodemographic, mental health, habits related to physical activity and the State Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS14) and the Andrews Faces Scale were collected to assess level of state-anxiety, perceived-stress, and self-perception of happiness, respectively. Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the convergence between the domains of the Autoquestionnaire Qualité de Vie Enfant image (AUQUEI) and the Child Perceptions Questionnaire (CPQ8-10) in the mixed dentition. A sample of 676 children aged 8 to 10 years responded to the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) questionnaires using the AUQUEI and the CPQ8-10, respectively. Clinical (dental caries and malocclusion) and socioeconomic variables were assessed. The validity of convergence between scores (total and per domain) of the two instruments was assessed by Spearman correlation analysis, considering that non-zero coefficient values represented a correlation between scores. The median was calculated to compare the scores of each questionnaire relative to the variables, and the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test was applied to determine statistically significant differences between the categories. A weak significant correlation (between 0.30 and 0.50) was observed between the domains and the total scores of instruments (p < 0.05), except for the leisure domain (p > 0.05). Participants with a lower family income had worse HRQoL (p < 0.05), and those with caries and malocclusion experience had worse OHRQoL (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the AUQUEI and CPQ8-10 instruments showed a weak correlation. Income and clinical variables had a negative impact on the AUQUEI and CPQ8-10, respectively.

This paper describes OpenIMDML, an open source Modelica-based library implemented for the representation of electrically driven loads in a multi-domain engineering system. This novel approach consists of providing a physically meaningful equation-based mechanical interface of the motor’s torque/speed coupled to the electrical model of the induction motor. Because the newly developed motor models have a phasor domain representation of the electrical domain and a mechanical flange for rotational component coupling, this allows the user to integrate different domain subsystems with power grid models in one single multi-domain model utilizing the Modelica language and the OpenIPSL library. The library has been developed entirely using the Modelica programming language and has been tested in both Dymola and OpenModelica software tools.

RESUMO O estudo analisou as pesquisas qualitativas realizadas, no Brasil, sobre o itinerário da reabilitação de pacientes que sofreram acidente vascular cerebral (AVC), e sintetizou suas principais contribuições em busca dos sentidos e significados subjacentes. A revisão integrativa da literatura partiu da seguinte pergunta: como são descritos os itinerários da reabilitação de pacientes que sofreram um AVC nos estudos qualitativos? As bases consultadas foram BIREME, MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, utilizando os descritores DeCS/MeSH: “acidente vascular cerebral AND qualitativa”; “reabilitação AND acidente vascular cerebral”; “acidente vascular cerebral”; “pesquisa qualitativa”; “acidente vascular encefálico AND qualitativa”; “reabilitação AND acidente vascular encefálico”. Foram incluídos seis artigos, que destacaram a importância da integralidade do cuidado, o papel da família no processo de recuperação, a centralização dos serviços, a dificuldade com transporte e a indisponibilidade dos familiares e cuidadores como obstáculos no itinerário da reabilitação. Os resultados reforçam a necessidade de implementar melhorias no percurso de cuidado do paciente que sofreu AVC e a demanda pela integralidade do manejo.

Objective: To evaluate a group of Brazilian dentists on their knowledge of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) and Hypomineralized Second Primary Molars (HSPM) related to clinical aspects, consequences, and diagnostic criteria. Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional, the participants were invited by e-mail and Whatsapp® to answer a questionnaire about their knowledge of hypomineralization enamel defects (MIH/HSPM) on the Google Forms® platform. The questionnaire comprised eight questions about personal data and multiple-choice questions about their knowledge concerning clinical aspects, diagnostic criteria of MIH/HSPM and differential diagnosis through clinical images. Chi-square test was applied with the significance level set at 5%. Results: Most participants (n = 492; 91.1%) reported having knowledge about MIH/HSPM. The general dentists gave more incorrect answers (n = 40; 65.6 %;) about dental tissues affected by MIH/HSPM. Overall, 83.3% of the dentists gave the correct answer to which dentitions are associated with this condition. In addition, most dentists presented knowledge about the consequences related to possible fractures (n= 487; 90.2%) and about an increased risk of caries (n= 479; 88.9%) in the affected teeth. Regarding the differential diagnosis performed through clinical images, most participants gave incorrect answers (p≤0.001). Conclusion: The participants presented knowledge about the dentition associated with this condition and possible consequences related to the teeth affected by MIH/HSPM; however, they showed difficulties concerning clinical diagnostic criteria.

Ancorados nos Novos Estudos do Letramento e, ainda, a partir de uma pesquisa etnográfica, Lea e Street (2014) estabeleceram três modelos que permitem o estudo das práticas de leitura e de escrita na universidade: i) o das habilidades, ii) o da socialização e iii) o do letramento acadêmico como prática social. Considerando essa proposta, o objetivo desta investigação é identificar e analisar se e como essas três perspectivas sobre o letramento acadêmico aparecem no escopo da disciplina Oficina de Língua Portuguesa: Leitura e Produção de Textos (OLP), ofertada a distância e semestralmente, há mais de uma década, na UFMG (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais). Trata-se de um estudo de abordagem qualitativa (Paiva, 2019), motivado por experiência profissional como tutores da OLP. Com base na ementa da disciplina, dos materiais instrutivos e informativos, dos recursos disponibilizados e das tarefas solicitadas, constatamos que os dois primeiros modelos citados embasam a OLP. No que se refere às habilidades, os aspectos linguísticos, como os gramaticais, são explorados de modo individual, com base nas demandas explicitadas pelos graduandos nos textos produzidos. Isso, no entanto, não acontece sem contextualização, mas, sim, em articulação à socialização acadêmica e à língua em uso, visto que os textos lidos e escritos são sempre explorados enquanto enunciados inscritos em gêneros discursivos (Bakhtin, 1997). Por sua vez, o terceiro modelo, que sobressalta a construção dos significados pelos sujeitos e as relações de poder e identidade inerentes à esfera universitária, é pouco adotado, principalmente ao se considerar que a OLP engloba um número grande de estudantes por semestre. Tal fato é um desafio, porque homogeneíza as práticas letradas e as restringe à própria disciplina na expectativa de que o aluno consiga, posteriormente, (re)produzi-las e (re)adequá-las aos contextos sociais mais específicos dos quais participa na universidade.

This intervention follow-up study evaluated anxiety and stress levels and self-perceived happiness of individuals linked to the health field who did not practice Tai Chi and compared these variables before and after practicing this art. One hundred twenty-three participants were subdivided into two groups: G1) Older health professionals (n=41) and G2) Younger pre-university students interested in the health field (n=82). Participants received a 60-minute Tai Chi class. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14) was applied before the practice, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Andrews Face Scale were used before and after the class. Generalized linear models and the Bowker symmetry test were applied for data analysis. 46.3% and 30.5% of participants in G1 and G2 had mild stress levels, and 43.9% and 46.3% had moderate stress levels, respectively. After practicing Tai Chi, both groups presented significantly lower mean anxiety scores. In G1, 31.7% of participants went from moderate to mild anxiety levels after practice, 19.5% from severe to moderate, and 7.3% from severe to mild. In G2, 28.2% of participants went from moderate to mild anxiety levels after practice, 18.3% from severe to moderate, and 6.1% from severe to mild. Furthermore, 100.0% of individuals in G1 and 96.3% in G2 were happy after the class. Tai Chi was effective in reducing anxiety levels and improving self-perceived happiness.

Introdução: Hipertensão arterial sistêmica (HAS) e diabetes mellitus (DM), são doenças crônicas não transmissíveis com alta prevalência. Aumento no nível de atividade física (NAF) auxilia na prevenção e controle dessas doenças. Objetivo: Analisar e comparar o NAF de indivíduos de meia-idade e idosos hipertensos e/ou diabéticos usuários de unidade de saúde. Abstract This study aimed to make a longitudinal analysis of interexaminer calibration reproducibility in diagnosing dental caries in posterior teeth, by examiners without previous experience in epidemiological studies. A group of 11 inexperienced examiners underwent theoretical-practical training and calibration assessments, assisted by a standard examiner. An examiner who did not participate directly in the research selected 5-year-old children with and without caries. The D3 diagnostic threshold was used to evaluate dental caries, based on the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria. The initial calibration (baseline) was performed after the theoretical-practical training session, and consisted of examining 20 children; the second calibration occurred three months later, and involved evaluating another 18 children. The interexaminer agreement was obtained by kappa statistics, and by overall percentage agreement. The paired t-test was applied to compare the values for kappa means and overall percentage agreement between the time points studied. At baseline, the values for kappa (> 0.81) and overall percentage agreement (> 95.63%) were considered high. At the 3-month calibration assessment, all the examiners showed some decrease in both kappa (p < 0.0001) and overall percentage agreement (p = 0.0102). The calibration process currently proposed by the WHO is effective. However, reproducibility was not maintained over time for inexperienced examiners evaluating the posterior teeth of 5-year-old children, under epidemiological conditions.

This paper describes tool that is created for massive data generation employing phasor time-domain Modelica simulations and using the Open-Instance Power System Library (OpenIPSL). provides a pipeline for generating large amounts of data, considering a wide range of operating conditions and potential contingencies experienced by a power system. The need for large-scale power system dynamic data arises with the development of Machine Learning (ML) solutions in the context of the modernization of the existing power grid. implements algorithms to process different types of input data, perform steady-state computations, run dynamic simulations and linear analysis routines, and label the resulting data sets. The tool has been developed entirely in Python 3 and is compatible with the Modelica IDEs - Dymola and OpenModelica.

This paper describes Open-Instance Power System Library (OpenIPSL) version 2.0.0 and its most recent enhancements. This new version brings upgrades that include more robust models that are better documented, and example systems that illustrate certain functionalities to users. Repository and library documentations have been enhanced and expanded, and the library is now released under a new license. Changes are meant to foster user and developer communities, while providing more attractive frameworks for collaborative work to be carried out with the library.

O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as respostas agudas do consumo de oxigênio (VO2) e da frequência cardíaca (FC) de homens treinados durante exercícios aeróbios e de força. Participaram 10 voluntários, idade de 23,90 ± 3,62 anos, submetidos a testes cardiopulmonar máximo, com determinação do consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO2max) e limiar ventilatório (LV), e de uma repetição máxima (1RM) nos exercícios supino reto, agachamento e rosca direta; e dois testes cardiopulmonares submáximos do exercício aeróbio (corrida no LV) e de força (exercícios dos testes de 1RM, 3 séries de 8 a 12 repetições, a primeira para aquecimento, seguida por 3 séries a 70% 1RM); os testes submáximos foram em dias diferentes; em um deles os voluntários começaram com o exercício aeróbio e depois de força (EA-EF), e no outro com o de força e a seguir o aeróbio (EF-EA). Os resultados do VO2 e da FC dos exercícios aeróbio e de força não apresentaram diferenças. Na comparação do VO2 dos exercícios aeróbios com o VO2LV não ocorreu diferença e foi maior que 46% VO2max; a FC dos exercícios aeróbios com a FCLV não apresentou diferença, e a FC do exercício aeróbio foi maior que 64% FCmax. O VO2 nos exercícios de força foi menor que o VO2LV e 46% VO2max, e a FC foi menor que a FCLV e maior que 64% FCmax. Conclui-se que a intensidade do limiar ventilatório mostrou-se adequada para treinamento para aptidão cardiorrespiratória, e a sobrecarga aeróbia no exercício de força foi baixa.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe and measure the Bicrista Iliaca Pubo Angle (APBCI) as a new anthropometric parameter. Correlate the measurement with patients with giant incisional hernia (HIG), in the midline of the anterior abdominal wall (AAW). Methods: measurement of APBCI, through 3D reconstruction from computed tomography (CT). Measurements performed by two observers, R and C, in 246 women and 60 men, normal adults, in order to obtain the APBCI measurement and its correlation in patients with HIG of the AAW. Results: after sample calculations, the measurement of APBCI in men: 92.5+6.3º to 93.8+6.7º; in women: 90+6.7° to 94.3+6.8° [p-value 0.337(R)/0.628(C)]. The mean age was 57.9+15.9 years (22 to 91 years). Female gender 57+15.7 years (22 to 91 years) and male 61.7+16.5 years (23 to 89 years) p=0.067. As for the distribution of the ranges from 5 to 5 degrees, there is no difference in the distribution of the angle [p-value 0.455(R)/0.672(C)]. The correlation between age and angle showed that the higher the age, the higher the APBCI. There was no variability between angle measurements: 0.97 (95% CI 0.97; 0.98). In men with HIG, the average is between 108.3+5.37º (102.92º to 113.67º), and in women, 107.8+6.64 (101.16º to 114.44º). Conclusion: the study allowed us to conclude that HIG is not just an isolated AAW defect. Determines skeletal changes, as the APBCI is influenced by the distance of the iliac crests.

Introduction: Adolescents have a high risk of developing caries in Portugal. The present study is designed to assess dental caries experience among the adolescents by the application of DMFT index, characterize the oral health risk factors and to determine the association between caries experience and socio-demographic variables. The characterization of the oral health behaviors of adolescents of the central region of Portugal will help in the development of specific oral health education strategies to improve oral health among the local communities. Objective: To define the prevalence of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) in Brazil since the reports ranged from 2.5% to 40.2%. Material and Methods: We studied 407 children from 7 to 14 years of age. MIH was measured using the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry criteria of 2003. Clinical data were collected by a calibrated dentist (Kappa=0.88) and included affected teeth and degree of MIH severity (mild/severe). Mild MIH cases were considered when the tooth presented demarcated opacity ≥ 1.0mm, without any loss of structure. While severe cases were defined by teeth in which loss of structure was present, or past or current lesion that required treatment, or presence of atypical restorations. In addition, published data (nine studies) reporting MIH in Brazilians were identified, and the heterogeneity of these studies was tested (I2 index/ p≤0.01). Results: In the original sample studied, the majority of patients were males (55.3%; n = 225), with an average age of 10.1 years (± 2.1 years). The prevalence of MIH in this group was 14.5% (59 affected in 407), and most of the affected teeth had a mild degree of alteration (77.4% or 202 in 261 teeth). Conclusion: A meta-analysis including nine published reports, and our original data showed that MIH prevalence in Brazil is 13.48 (95% CI, 8.66% -18.31%).

COVID-19 pandemic implied new biosafety recommendations to avoid dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 virus within healthcare centers. Changes on recommended personal protective equipment (PPE), decontamination protocols and organization of patient demand resulted may result in cost variation. Based on this, the present study aimed to evaluate the economic impact of new biosafety recommendations for oral healthcare assistance during COVID-19. An Activity Based Costing evaluation was used to calculate the acquisition of PPE and decontamination solutions recommended for dental practice during COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. PPE and decontamination solutions quantity and frequency of use were based on the newly COVID-19 recommendations. Costs (in Brazilian Real – R$) for biosafety recommendations pre- and post-COVID-19 were outlined and calculated for each patient, service shift and year. A sensitivity analysis considered 20% variation of direct costs. Previously to COVID-19 pandemic, direct costs of biosafety recommendations consisted of R$0.84 per patient, R$6.69 per service shift and R$3,413.94 per year. Post-COVID-19 costs of biosafety recommendations resulted in R$16.01 per patient, R$128.07 per service shift, and R$32,657.96 per year. Yearly costs can vary between R$26,126.37 and R$39,189.56. The annual budget increase necessary to adopt post-COVID biosafety recommendations was R$29,244.02. Newly biosafety recommendations increased significantly the costs of oral healthcare assistance during COVID-19 pandemic. Decision making of healthcare managers must consider rational and equity allocation of financial resources.

Introducción: La afectación pulpar irreversible de los dientes primarios representa un desafío para la endodoncia en odontopediatría. Sobre la base del enfoque de esterilización de lesiones y reparación de tejidos (LSTR-Lesion Sterelization and Tissue Repair), se ha propuesto una técnica endodóncica no instrumental que utiliza pastas antibióticas. La pasta antibiótica CTZ, que contiene una mezcla de cloranfenicol, tetraciclina, óxido de zinc y eugenol, tiene potencial para uso en la técnica endodóncica no instrumental en pacientes pediátricos. Materiales y métodos: Se realizaron búsquedas en las bases de datos PUBMED, BVS, WEB OF SCIENCE, COCHRANE y SCOPUS utilizando los términos “ctzpaste”, “ctz”, “tooth, deciduous” y “primary molars” sin restricción de idioma, con fecha limitada de 2015 hasta enero de 2021. Resultados: Después de eliminar los duplicados, se obtuvieron 13 artículos. La pasta CTZ mostró una actividad antimicrobiana satisfactoria en Enterecoccus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebisiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli y Candida albicans. Los estudios in vitro e in vivo han demostrado que la pasta tiene biocompatibilidad. La frecuencia de éxito clínico varió del 37% al 100% y el éxito radiográfico del 29,7% al 97,4%. Conclusiones: Aunque se necesitan más estudios que contribuyan a un mejor nivel de la evidencia, puede afirmase que la pasta CTZ una es alternativa para los casos de afectación pulpar en dientes primarios, inclusive en el ámbito de la salud pública.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the impact of facial profile on young adults’ oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) item levels. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with a population-based sample of 205 young adults, with a mean age of 23.1 years. The individuals answered questions about OHRQoL (OHIP-14) and self-esteem (Global Negative Self-Evaluation). The Dental Health Component (DHC) of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) was used to evaluate normative orthodontic treatment needs and define dental malocclusion clinically. Facial profile was analyzed using photographs and dichotomized into two levels: normal (straight) and altered facial profile (convex or concave). A calibrated researcher performed the clinical examination. Association between the independent variables and the outcome (OHRQoL) was established by hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis for each item level. Considering the variable of interest (facial profile), the psychological incapacity domain was the most affected item. Results: Individuals with changed facial profile had 2.47 (1.04-5.85) times higher chances of reporting impacts on psychological incapacity than those with a normal profile (p> 0.05). The association was modulated by dental malocclusion and self-esteem. Conclusions: The convex and concave facial profile showed a negative impact on the psychological aspects of young adults’ quality of life.

Objective: To assess the association between environmental factors during pregnancy and early childhood with the presence and severity of Molar Incisor Hipomineralization (MIH). Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 120 patients between 7 and 14 years of age. MIH was evaluated according to EAPD criteria. Data collected included the child’s medical history and the mother’s health. Chi-square and logistic regression were performed to determine any statistical evidence of the environmental factors, with the significance level set at 5%. Results: The participants were divided into groups with MIH (n=60) and without MIH (n=60), with average ages of 9.9 (±1.9) and 9.7 (±1.7) years, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between intercurrences during pregnancy (OR=3.55; IC95%=1.35-10.57) and medication taken by the child (OR=3.01; IC95%=1.74-8.42) and the presence of MIH. In addition, other variables were also associated with the MIH (p≤0.05). However, there was no association with variables and degree of MIH severity (p>0.05). Conclusion: The use of medications in childhood and complications during pregnancy can be association to the presence of MIH. However, these factors do not interaction to MIH severity.

Este artigo apresenta uma proposta de metodologia lúdica para o ensino de Geografia na Educação Básica. Inicialmente, é apresentado um breve referencial teórico-conceitual acerca do jogo, das atividades lúdicas no ensino e da aprendizagem inventiva. Em seguida, é apresentada uma síntese analítica das respostas a um questionário endereçado a professores da Educação Básica sobre sua experiência com práticas lúdicas. O artigo conclui com a apresentação de uma proposta metodológica lúdica para o Ensino de Geografia na Educação Básica, composta por cinco atividades lúdicas voltadas aos anos 4º a 7º do Ensino Fundamental. ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the association between orthodontic treatment need and the self-reported bullying, and its impact on adolescents’ self-esteem. Methods: The sample consisted of 160 schoolchildren from 11 to 14 years of age, enrolled in public schools. The history of bullying was evaluated by means of the Crozier; Dimmock adapted Questionnaire (1999). Self-esteem was determined by means of the Global Negative Self-Evaluation Scale (GSE). The normative orthodontic treatment need was determined by the Dental Health Component (DHC) and perceived need, by Aesthetic Component (AC) of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN). Individual analyses were made of the associations with the history of bullying (outcome). Results: The variables that presented P ? 0.20 in the individual analyses were tested in a multiple logistic regression model, and variables with P ? 0.05 remained in the model. The odds ratios with the intervals of confidence were estimated. According to the results 72.5% of the schoolchildren reported a history of bullying. The schoolchildren who presented negative impact on the quality of life related to oral symptoms and negative self-esteem were observed to have 4.59 and 5.44 times more chance, respectively to report a history of bullying (P < 0.05), which did not suffer the influence of normative and perceived orthodontic treatment need. Conclusion: The history of bullying was not influenced by orthodontic treatment need, but by the low self-esteem of adolescents.

Embora os jogos digitais sejam vistos de forma pejorativa por pais e professores (LEFFA et al., 2012), eles são objetos de ensino-aprendizagem que podem beneficiar a leitura e a escrita (RIBEIRO, A. L., 2016). No que se refere à acentuação, não é raro escutar colocações, por parte de alguns docentes, sobre a ausência e/ou o uso errado de acento gráfico nos textos formais escritos pelos alunos (COUTO; GUIMARÃES, 2020). Nesse contexto, este estudo articula a acentuação gráfica – que se apresenta como um conteúdo de difícil ensino – e os jogos – ferramentas capazes de contribuir para uma prazerosa aprendizagem. Assim, o objetivo foi analisar jogos digitais voltados à aprendizagem da acentuação gráfica, de modo a discutir as conexões possíveis entre aprendizagem e ludicidade inerentes (ou não) a eles. Este trabalho pauta-se nas teorizações sobre os jogos digitais (LEFFA et al., 2012; RIBEIRO, F. R., 2013; RIBEIRO, A. L., 2016) e o ensino-aprendizagem da acentuação gráfica (MARRA, 2012; COUTO; GUIMARÃES, 2020; CRISTÓFARO-SILVA; ALMEIDA; MARRA, 2020). Metodologicamente, trata-se de uma investigação descritivo-interpretativista de abordagem qualitativa (PAIVA, 2019). Os resultados evidenciaram que os jogos analisados foram construídos sob a égide do ensino mecânico e descontextualizado da escrita, com foco na memorização, e propiciam uma aprendizagem tímida com ludicidade mínima ou nula.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the understanding of the Therapeutic Itinerary of people affected by stroke in the Unified Health System context of a medium-sized city in the state of São Paulo. Methods: this is a clinical-qualitative, using in-depth semi-structured interviews, conducted in 2019 with 6 patients, a number determined by theoretical saturation. Results: qualitative content analysis allowed the construction of four categories that emerged from the data: a) You are having a stroke! - Identifying the problem; b) Anguish and expectations in waiting for assistance; c) Helplessness and guidance for rehabilitation after hospital discharge; d) Spirituality in rehabilitation after stroke. Final Considerations: the affected people expressed feelings and meanings, such as fear, anguish, sadness, beliefs and uncertainties, in order to shed light on the complexity inherent to the experiences of Therapeutic Itinerary of stroke.

O Festival Paralímpico é coordenado pelo Comitê Paralímpico Brasileiro – CPB e busca promover atividades esportivas adaptadas para crianças e jovens com e sem deficiência dos 10 aos 17 anos em todo o Brasil. Em 2019, o Festival reuniu cerca de 11 mil jovens em 70 cidades das 27 unidades da federação. As atividades são desenvolvidas por professores e acadêmicos voluntários de Educação Física. Dessa forma, o objetivo do estudo é descrever as percepções dos acadêmicos do Curso de Educação Física, que foram voluntários no Festival Paralímpico, em relação a contribuição deste evento para sua formação acadêmica e para as pessoas com deficiência que participaram do evento. Este estudo caracteriza-se como descritivo e exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, sua amostra corresponde a 17 voluntários, de ambos os gêneros, que foram entrevistados por meio de um questionário estruturado com questões abertas. Observou-se que as principais contribuições para a formação dos acadêmicos foram: a possibilidade de aplicação prática dos conhecimentos e ainda, a ampliação desses. Também destacamos a percepção sobre as possibilidades das pessoas com deficiência que participaram do evento. Dessa forma consideramos fundamental a participação de acadêmicos de Educação Física em eventos desta natureza, sendo uma possibilidade de qualificar a futura atuação profissional e também, ampliar sua percepção sobre as potencialidades das pessoas com deficiência a partir da inserção no esporte.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To estimate the flow of professionals and the financial impact of the Programa Mais Médicos para o Brasil (PMMB – More Doctors for Brazil Program) within the More Doctors Program (MDP) for the Brazilian Ministry of Health and the participating municipalities of the state of São Paulo, from January 2019 to March 2022. METHODS A financial impact study was conducted in the state of São Paulo based on public secondary databases. The number of PMMB vacancies per municipality, of physicians and vulnerability profiles were described to measure the loss of replacement of professionals in the period. RESULTS In the specified period, the number of PMMB physicians in participating cities will decrease from 2,533 to 320, and the number of participating municipalities from 373 to 86. The municipalities that will need to replace the physicians will have a financial impact of R$ 929,487,904.77 (with sensitivity analysis, ranging from R$ 650,641,533.34 to R$ 1,208,334,276.20). CONCLUSION The change of vulnerability methodology adopted for the PMMB will represent serious consequences, that is, less population assistance and high financial impact for the municipalities of the state of São Paulo in a scenario of budget limitations.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the influence of dental trauma on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children and their families. Methods: A total of 571 children aged five years were randomly selected at public schools. Trauma was clinically evaluated in accordance with the Andreasen classification. Caries experience in the anterior region and increased overjet were determined according to the World Health Organization criteria. The Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) was answered by the parents and used to evaluate OHRQoL. In addition, this questionnaire has aspects related to socioeconomic status. A pandemia do COVID-19 teve início no final de 2019 e rapidamente se espalhou pelo mundo. De repente, medidas de distanciamento e isolamento social, higienização sanitária e de forte impacto econômico eram a realidade do país e do mundo. As atividades físicas e esportivas foram impactadas e gradativamente acompanhando as restrições impostas em cada unidade da federação. As pessoas com algum tipo de deficiência, por fazer parte do grupo de risco de contágio do COVID-19, foram rigorosamente impactadas nas restrições de atividades físicas e esportivas. Dessa forma, esse ensaio teórico procura trazer breves reflexões sobre os principais impactos da COVID-19 nas atividades físicas e esportivas para pessoas com deficiência no Brasil, e também, descrever as alternativas e possibilidades de manutenção dessas atividades no país.

In the search for new solid fuels that can mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases and reduce municipal solid waste, it is proposed to produce a solid fuel from elephant grass charcoal (EGC) and blend it with the following binding recyclable materials, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with the aim of increasing their mechanical strength. Immediate analysis results indicate that there was an increase in volatile material content from 21.18% to 28.02% and a reduction in fixed carbon from 65.00% to 58.40% with the addition of binding agents. The higher heating value of pure charcoal was 5924.16 kcal/kg and there was no significant alteration by adding HDPE, however, with the addition of PET, there was an average reduction of 4.82%. According to the elemental analysis of charcoal, there were no significant amounts of sulphur, but silicon and potassium oxides were predominantly composed followed by aluminium, titanium, magnesium and iron according to the analysis of ashes. The addition of thermoplastic binders allowed producing pellets and it was found that those produced by using HDPE are stronger than those produced with PET.

Abstract: This study aimed to identify factors associated with the need for complete dentures in one dental arch or both, among the elderly population. The cross-sectional household study was conducted with a representative sample of elderly people (65 years or older) in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2015. The dependent variable was the need for complete dentures (in one arch or both), and independent variables were socioeconomic and demographic conditions, social capital, self-perception of oral health and access to dental services. Simple and multinomial logistic regression models tested effect measures (p < 0.05). A total of 5,948 elderly people participated. Results indicated that those with greater chances of needing a complete denture in one arch were male (OR = 1.54; CI95%:1.04–2.29), with fewer household goods (OR = 2.25; CI95%:1.50–3.38), lower monthly household income: R$501-1500 (OR = 3.44; CI95%:1.27–9.35), R$1501–2500 (OR = 4.11; CI95%:1.50–11.27), R$2501–4500 (OR = 2.76; CI95%:1.10–6.95), self-reported need for a complete denture (OR = 4.75; CI95%:3.08–7.35), ≥3 years since last dental appointment (OR = 1.80; CI95%:1.06–3.05), and dissatisfaction with last dental appointment (OR = 1.80; CI95%:1.06–3.05). There were more chances of the need for complete dentures in both arches among older elders (OR = 1.44; CI95%:1.06–1.88), with lower monthly household income: R$ < 501 (OR = 4.45; CI95%:1.71–11.60), R$501–1500 (OR = 4.01; CI95%:2.14–7.51), R$1501–2500 (OR = 2.95; CI95%:1.64–5.32), < 3 years of education (OR = 1.45; CI95%:1.13–1.85), feeling unhappy (OR = 2.74; CI95%:1.35–5.57), self-reported need for a complete denture (OR = 8.48; CI95%:5.75–12.50), dissatisfaction with their mouth (OR = 2.38; CI95%:1.64–3.46), ≥3 years since last dental appointment (OR = 4.28; CI95%:2.85–6.43), and dissatisfaction with last dental appointment (OR = 4.28; CI95%:2.85–6.43). The several dimensions of the determinants of the need for a complete denture reflect the influence of both demographic and socioeconomic aspects, social capital, self-perception of oral health and access to dental services.

O objetivo do estudo é descrever as razões para o ingresso de atletas paralímpicos no esporte de alto rendimento no Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo com abordagem descritiva e qualitativa. A coleta de informações foi realizada por meio de entrevista semiestruturada. Participaram do estudo 20 atletas das seleções brasileiras paralímpicas de Atletismo e Natação. Os resultados revelaram que os principais motivos pelos quais os atletas iniciam no esporte paralímpico são: 1) Oportunidade de Acesso à prática (n=10; 50%); 2) Prazer pela prática (n=9; 45%); 3) Inspiração em ídolos paralímpicos (n=6; 30%); e ainda, 4) Reabilitação (n=5; 25%). Dessa forma, conhecer os motivos para o ingresso no esporte paralímpico, pode proporcionar o surgimento de novas gerações de atletas e também consolidar o país como uma das principais potências paralímpicas mundiais.

Objective:To determine whether individuals withskeletal discrepancies of Class II or IIIdisplay a higher frequency of dental anomalies in comparison with individuals with Class I malocclusion. Design:A systematic search of the main electronic medical scientific literaturedatabases was conducted. Observational studies were selected if mentioning dental anomalies in the different skeletal malocclusion patterns. Results:A total of 4,768 studies were found and the duplicated studies (1,279) were removed, resulting in 3,489 papers to be analyzed. After screening by title, 138 were fit for screening by abstract. After that, a total of 13 papers were carefully read in full. Five studies included dental anomaly frequencies in orthodontic patients and included 7,679 participants. The frequency of dental anomalies ranged from 11.2% to 40.3%.It was observed that individuals with skeletal discrepancies of Class II and III had more dental anomalies when compared to individuals with Class I. Conclusion:Individuals with skeletal malocclusion patternshave more dental anomalies and there is an association between dental anomalies and skeletal Class II or Class III malocclusion patterns.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the impact of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) on the child’s family structure. Methods: A representative sample of 613 children from public preschools, in a city in southeastern Brazil, were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The sample was determined through probabilistic sampling in two stages (preschools and children). The outcome variable (Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale [ECOHIS]) was multi-categorized in children and family. Independent individual variables were sex, race, family income, parents’/caregivers’ level of education, family income, dental caries, and malocclusion. Initially, individual analyses were performed, relating the study variables to the outcome variables, estimating the raw odds ratio with the respective confidence intervals of 95%. The variables with p < 0.20 in the individual analyses were tested in the multiple logistic regression models, and those with p < 0.10 remained in the model. Results: Impact on OHRQoL was reported by 40.9% of the children and 17% of their families. Children with low family income and caries experience had, respectively, 1.53 (95% CI: 1.00-2.32) (p = 0.0465) and 2.96 (95% CI: 1.81-4.84) (p < 0.0001) more chance of presenting negative impact on OHRQoL. Conclusions: The aspects that most affected the OHRQoL of child’s family structure were low income and dental caries experience.

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo caracterizar e analisar como uma professora de Língua Portuguesa explora a leitura e a escrita de gêneros discursivos multimodais, em eventos de letramento, com alunos dos Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental, a fim de revelar e discutir possibilidades que emergem de práticas desta natureza em prol dos multiletramentos. Do ponto de vista metodológico, a prática de uma educadora, em três turmas de uma escola pública de Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais), foi acompanhada durante seis meses, compreendidos nos anos de 2015 e 2016, nos quais os alunos, para quem ela lecionou, cursaram, respectivamente, o 8º e o 9º anos do Ensino Fundamental. A partir de instrumentos de coleta de dados de natureza qualitativa, como a observação participante, os registros no caderno de campo e as gravações em áudio, foram selecionados e caracterizados eventos de letramento a partir dos quais foi possível analisar possibilidades com relação à mediação docente de práticas de leitura e de escrita com gêneros discursivos multimodais. Dessa forma, os dados coletados permitiram discutir: i. as concepções subjacentes à prática pedagógica da educadora; ii. os recursos didático-pedagógicos utilizados em sala de aula; iii. a abordagem e as estratégias discursivas empregadas pela professora. Além disso, os resultados apontaram os êxitos das práticas investigadas, assim como reforçaram a centralidade da prática docente relativa aos multiletramentos no referido componente curricular.

Abstract. This study aimed to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the Hypsipyla grandella (Zeller) damage in fruits of mahogany in Brasilia, Brazil. For this, fruits were collected and the analysis of each fruit was carried out by assessing the following parameters: fruit weight, fruit length and height, number of holes in fruits characteristic of H. grandella attack, size of the holes, number of larvae and pupae of H. grandella, number of seeds damaged and presence of other insects within the fruit. As a result, 190 (95%) had holes made by the larvae, used primarily for their entry and for exit later as an adult. Most of the fruits showed only a single hole (81%), but up to 5 holes were found in a single fruit. A single caterpillar can feed on various seeds, causing major damage when they attack together. Seventy-two (36%) fruits had all the seeds damaged by H. grandella, especially those containing pupae. 183 larvae in different instars and 45 pupae were found. Only five caterpillars were found dead inside of fruit, representing 2.78% of the caterpillars. Danos em frutos de mogno causados pela Hypsipyla grandella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) em Brasília, Brasil Resumo. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar qualitativamente e quantitativamente os danos provocados por Hypsipyla grandella (Zeller) em frutos de mogno em Brasília, Brasil. Para isso, frutos foram coletados e os seguintes parâmetros foram analisados: peso, comprimento, número de orifícios causados pela H. grandella, número de sementes danificadas e presença de outros insetos no interior dos frutos. Como resultado, 190 (95%) frutos apresentaram orifícios feitos pela lagarta, usados primordialmente para sua entrada e posteriormente para a saída, quando adulto. A maioria dos frutos apresentou apenas um orifício (81%), mas até cinco furos foram encontrados em um único fruto. Uma única lagarta pode se alimentar de várias sementes, causando grandes danos. Setenta e dois frutos (36%) tinham todas as sementes danificadas por H. grandella, especialmente aqueles que apresentaram pupas. 183 lagartas em diferentes estádios e 45 pupas foram encontradas. Apenas cinco lagartas foram encontradas mortas dentro dos frutos, representando 2,78% do total.

Abstract Background Oral cancer (OC) is among the ten most common cancers and the seventh most frequent cause of death worldwide. It has been reported that these incidence rates are higher in developed country and these mortality rates are higher in less developed areas. So, the objective of the present study was to analyze the spatial joint distribution and to explore possible associations of the epidemiological aspects with mortality rates due to OC in the Brazil. Methods An exploratory ecological study investigated the global spatial autocorrelation of epidemiological aspects with mortality rates due to OC from the Brazilian Federative Units (FUs) (n = 27) in the period 2005–2014, using the “global” and “local” Moran statistic method and a multiple spatial regression, having as variables of exposure the habits and lifestyle, sociodemographic indicators, the consumption of pesticides, the presence of comorbidities, the use of health services and food consumption; and, as a variable response, mortality rates due to OC. The software used was Stata 11.0, SPSS 18.0 and GeoDa 0.95-i. Results The spatial distribution of OC mortality rates to age-standard was not random and showed high spatial autocorrelation and predominance of significant spatial groupings in the Central-South region of Brazil. Abstract Objective: To investigate factors associated with the use of dental care services. Methods: A cross-sectional study with a representative sample of elderly individuals aged 65 years or older residing in the state of São Paulo in 2015 was performed. Hierarchical multivariate logistic regression analysis was used based on the theoretical model of access determination proposed by Andersen (1995) to predict dental care visits. Results: The prevalence of public service use by the elderly was 1.981 (37.8%), while 3.253 (62.2%) used the private service/ health plan/ other type of service. Hierarchical multiple analysis (p≤0.05) identified that less schooling or never having studied, non-white, lower income and motivated by pain/extraction were associated with the use of public dental services. The study showed a reduced use of public dental care among elderly persons who required some type of upper dentures (except complete dentures), need for some type of lower dentures (including complete dentures) and demonstrated a positive self-perception of oral health condition. Conclusions: A higher prevalence of the use of private dental care/health plan/other type of service was identified. Less schooling or never having studied, non-white skin color, lower income and seeking the dentist with pain or to extract teeth were factors associated with the use of public dental services by the elderly.

Abstract Background Oral disorders may negatively affect the quality of life (QoL) of adolescents. To investigate how social vulnerability and oral-health status factors affect QoL in 15–19 years olds who participated in the “SB São Paulo 2015” state survey. Methods The relationship of several independent variables, namely Paulista Social Vulnerability Index (PSVI) score, gender, skin color, family income, age, untreated caries, tooth loss [determined by the Decayed, Missing, Filled-Teeth (DMF-T) index], toothache, periodontal condition [determined by the Community Periodontal Index (CPI)], and malocclusion (maxillary overjet, cross bite, or open bite) affect daily life, measured by the Oral Impacts on Daily Performance (OIDP) instrument. Logistic regression analyses were carried out based on a hierarchical model. Results The final sample consisted of 5402 adolescents. Abstract Introduction Little is known whether caries risk influence occlusal sealants retention. Objective To determine the retention rates (RR) of the resin-modified glass ionomer cement used as occlusal sealant in permanent first molars of 6-8-year old schoolchildren and to analyze the influence of caries risk at baseline on the RR of the sealant, over a 24-month period. Material and method The sealant application was performed in a dental office at the beginning of the study, after children being allocated into high caries risk group (HR) and low caries risk group (LR). The examinations were performed by the same calibrated dentist at 0, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months. Retention rates were estimated, the Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the survival probabilities; and the comparison between HR and LR groups was evaluated by Wilcoxon and log-rank test. Result The results showed that 14% of sealed teeth showed total loss (16% for HR and 12% for LR) and 46% showed partial loss during the study (51% for HR and 41% for LR), in relation to the baseline sample. No difference could be demonstrated by the survival analysis between HR and LR groups (p>0.05). Conclusion Caries risk did not influence the retention rates of a resin-modified glass ionomer cement used as occlusal sealant in 6-8-year old schoolchildren.

Este estudo, fundamentado nas teorias a respeito dos multiletramentos e dos gêneros discursivos, objetivou caracterizar e analisar como uma docente de Língua Portuguesa explorou a escrita do gênero discursivo multimodal marcador de página, em um evento de letramento, com alunos dos Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental. Com isso se intencionou problematizar possibilidades e desafios que emergem de práticas dessa natureza em prol dos multiletramentos. Do ponto de vista metodológico, a investigação ocorreu por meio da observação participante da prática de uma professora em três turmas de 8º ano, em uma escola pública de Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais). A partir disso, foi perceptível depreender possibilidades didáticas e discursivas, por exemplo, referentes à valorização das múltiplas linguagens em uma prática social de produção de um gênero discursivo composto por um projeto gráfico-visual. Além disso, foi possível discutir entraves inerentes às práticas multiletradas no ensino de Língua Portuguesa, como a escolarização de um gênero discursivo, o que implica mudanças de tecnologias e de recursos usados em processos de escrita.
