This paper addresses the challenge of function approximation using Hermite interpolation on equally spaced nodes. In this setting, standard polynomial interpolation suffers from the Runge phenomenon. To mitigate this issue, we propose an extension of the constrained mock-Chebyshev least squares approximation technique to Hermite interpolation. This approach leverages both function and derivative evaluations, resulting in more accurate approximations. Numerical experiments are implemented in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Finally, two illustrative numerical examples are presented.

In this contribution, quasi-orthogonality of polynomials generated by Geronimus and Uvarov transformations is analyzed. An attempt is made to discuss the recovery of the source orthogonal polynomial from the quasi-Geronimus and quasi-Uvarov polynomials of order one. Moreover, the discussion on the difference equation satisfied by quasi-Geronimus and quasi-Uvarov polynomials is presented. Furthermore, the orthogonality of quasi-Geronimus and quasi-Uvarov polynomials is achieved through the reduction of the degree of coefficients in the difference equation. During this procedure, alternative representations of the parameters responsible for achieving orthogonality are derived. One of these representations involves the Stieltjes transform of the measure. Finally, the recurrence coefficients ensuring the existence of a measure that makes the quasi-Geronimus Laguerre polynomial of order one an orthogonal polynomial are calculated., Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures

Let $(P_n(x;z;\lambda))_{n\geq 0}$ be the sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials with respect to the symmetric linear functional $\mathbf{s}$ defined by $$\langle\mathbf{s},p\rangle=\int_{-1}^1 p(x)(1-x^2)^{(\lambda-1/2)} e^{-zx^2}dx,\qquad\lambda>-1/2, \quad z>0.$$ In this contribution, several properties of the polynomials $P_n(x;z;\lambda)$ are studied taking into account the relation between the parameters of the three-term recurrence relation that they satisfy. In this contribution we deal with Gaussian quadrature rules based on orthogonal polynomials associated with a weight function $w(x)= x^{\alpha} e^{-x}$ supported on an interval $(0,z)$, $z>0.$ The modified Chebyshev algorithm is used in order to test the accuracy in the computation of the coefficients of the three-term recurrence relation, the zeros and weights, as well as the dependence on the parameter $z.$

Additive perturbations, specifically, matrix Uvarov transformations for matrix orthogonal polynomials, are under consideration. Christoffel-Uvarov formulas are deduced for the perturbed biorthogonal families, along with their matrix norms. We define the family of truncated Laguerre polynomials $P_n(x;z)$, orthogonal with respect to the linear functional $\ell$ defined by $$\langle{\ell,p\rangle}=\int_{0}^zp(x)x^\alpha e^{-x}dx,\qquad\alpha>-1.$$ The connection between $P_n(x;z)$ and the polynomials $S_n(x;z)$ (obtained through the symmetrization process) constitutes a key element in our analysis. As a consequence, several properties of the polynomials $P_n(x;z)$ and $S_n(x;z)$ are studied taking into account the relation between the parameters of the three-term recurrence relations that they satisfy. Asymptotic expansions of these coefficients are given. Discrete Painlev\'e and Painlev\'e equations associated with such coefficients appear in a natural way. An electrostatic interpretation of the zeros of such polynomials as well as the dynamics of the zeros in terms of the parameter $z$ are given.

In this contribution we deal with sequences of polynomials orthogonal with respect to a Sobolev type inner product. A banded symmetric operator is associated with such a sequence of polynomials according to the higher order difference equation they satisfy. Taking into account the Darboux transformation of the corresponding matrix we deduce the connection with a sequence of orthogonal polynomials associated with a Christoffel perturbation of the measure involved in the standard part of the Sobolev inner product. A connection with matrix orthogonal polynomials is stated. The Laguerre-Sobolev type case is studied as an illustrative example. Finally, the bispectrality of such matrix orthogonal polynomials is pointed out.

It is well known that Sobolev-type orthogonal polynomials with respect to measures supported on the real line satisfy higher-order recurrence relations and these can be expressed as a (2N+1)-banded symmetric semi-infinite matrix. In this paper we state the connection between these (2N+1)-banded matrices and the Jacobi matrices associated with the three-term recurrence relation satisfied by the standard sequence of orthonormal polynomials with respect to the 2-iterated Christoffel transformation of the measure.

Let $\un,$ be a quasi-definite linear functional defined on the space of polynomials $\mathbb{P}.$ For such a functional we can define a sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials (SMOP in short) $(P_n)_{n\geq 0},$ which satisfies a three term recurrence relation. Shifting one unity the recurrence coefficient indices given the sequence of associated polynomials of the first kind which are orthogonal with respect to a linear functional denoted by $\un^{(1)}$. In the literature two special transformations of the functional $\un$ are studied, the canonical Christoffel transformation $\widetilde \un=(x-c)\un$ and the canonical Geronimus transformation $\widehat \un=\frac{\un}{(x-c)}+M\deltan_c$ , where $c$ is a fixed complex number, $M $ is a free parameter and $\deltan_c$ is the linear functional defined on $\mathbb{P}$ as $\prodint{\deltan_c,p(x)}=p(c).$ For the Christoffel transformation with SMOP $(\widetilde P_n)_{n\geq 0}$, we are interested in analyzing the relation between the linear functionals $ \un^{(1)}$ and $\widetilde{\un}^{(1)}.$ There, the super index denotes the linear functionals associated with the orthogonal polynomial sequences of the first kind $(P_n^{(1)})_{n\geq 0}$ and $(\widetilde P_n^{(1)})_{n\geq 0},$ respectively. This problem is also studied for Geronimus transformations. Here we give close relations between their corresponding monic Jacobi matrices by using the LU and UL factorizations. A result of P\'olya states that every sequence of quadrature formulas $Q_n(f)$ with $n$ nodes and positive numbers converges to the integral $I(f)$ of a continuous function $f$ provided $Q_n(f)=I(f)$ for a space of algebraic polynomials of certain degree that depends on $n$. The classical case when the algebraic degree of precision is the highest possible is well-known and the quadrature formulas are the Gaussian ones whose nodes coincide with the zeros of the corresponding orthogonal polynomials and the numbers are expressed in terms of the so-called kernel polynomials. In many cases it is reasonable to relax the requirement for the highest possible degree of precision in order to gain the possibility to either approximate integrals of more specific continuous functions that contain a polynomial factor or to include additional fixed nodes. The construction of such quadrature processes is related to quasi-orthogonal polynomials. Given a sequence $\left \{ P_{n}\right \}_{n\geq0}$ of monic orthogonal polynomials and a fixed integer $k$, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions so that the quasi-orthogonal polynomials $\left \{ Q_{n}\right \}_{n\geq0}$ defined by \[ Q_{n}(x) =P_{n}(x) + \sum \limits_{i=1}^{k-1} b_{i,n}P_{n-i}(x), \ \ n\geq 0, \] with $b_{i,n} \in \mathbb{R}$, and $b_{k-1,n}\neq 0$ for $n\geq k-1$, also constitute a sequence of orthogonal polynomials. Therefore we solve the inverse problem for linearly related orthogonal polynomials. The characterization turns out to be equivalent to some nice recurrence formulas for the coefficients $b_{i,n}$. We employ these results to establish explicit relations between various types of quadrature rules from the above relations. In this work is presented a study on matrix biorthogonal polynomials sequences that satisfy a nonsymmetric recurrence relation with unbounded coefficients. The ratio asymptotic for this family of matrix biorthogonal polynomials is derived in quite general assumptions. It is considered some illustrative examples., Comment: 18 pages

In this work the interplay between matrix biorthogonal polynomials with respect to a matrix of linear functionals, the $k$-th associated matrix polynomials and the second kind matrix functions, is studied in terms of quasideterminants. A sort of Poincar\'{e}'s theorem for the ratio of two consecutive matrix functions solutions of a linear difference equation is also presented. Some new formulas connecting these families of matrix functions are given.

Connection formulas between these polynomials and Freud polynomials are deduced and, as a consequence, a five term recurrence relation for such polynomials is obtained. The location of their zeros as well as their asymptotic behavior is studied. In this paper transformations for matrix orthogonal polynomials in the real line are studied. The orthogonality is understood in a broad sense, and is given in terms of a nondegenerate continuous sesquilinear form, which in turn is determined by a quasidefinite matrix of bivariate generalized functions with a well defined support. The discussion of the orthogonality for such a sesquilinear form includes, among others, matrix Hankel cases with linear functionals, general matrix Sobolev orthogonality and discrete orthogonal polynomials with an infinite support. The first transformation considered is that of Geronimus type, two different methods are developed. A spectral one, based on the spectral properties of the perturbing polynomial, and constructed in terms of the second kind functions. Then, using spectral techniques and spectral jets, Christoffel-Geronimus formulas for the transformed polynomials and norms are presented. For this type of transformations, the paper also proposes an alternative method, which does not require of spectral techniques. A discussion on matrix spectral linear transformations is presented, as well. These transformations can be understood as rational perturbations of the matrix of bivariate generalized functions together with an addition of appropriate masses, determined these last ones by the spectral properties of the polynomial denominator. As for the Geronimus case, two techniques are applied, spectral and mixed spectral/nonspectral. Christoffel--Geronimus--Uvarov formulas are found with both approaches and some applications are given. The transformation theory is finally discussed in the context of the 2D non-Abelian Toda lattice and noncommutative KP hierarchies, understood as the theory of continuous transformations of quasidefinite sesquilinear forms. In this contribution we deal with a varying discrete Sobolev inner product involving the Jacobi weight. Our aim is to study the asymptotic properties of the corresponding orthogonal polynomials and the behavior of their zeros. We are interested in Mehler-Heine type formulae because they describe the essential differences from the point of view of the asymptotic behavior between these Sobolev orthogonal polynomials and the Jacobi ones. Moreover, this asymptotic behavior provides an approximation of the zeros of the Sobolev polynomials in terms of the zeros of other well-known special functions. Given a matrix polynomial $W(x)$, matrix bi-orthogonal polynomials with respect to the sesquilinear form $\langle P(x),Q(x)\rangle_W=\int P(x) W(x)\operatorname{d}\mu(x)(Q(x))^{\top}$, $P(x),Q(x)\in\mathbb R^{p\times p}[x]$, where $\mu(x)$ is a matrix of Borel measures supported in some infinite subset of the real line, are considered. Connection formulas between the sequences of matrix bi-orthogonal polynomials with respect to $\langle \cdot,\cdot\rangle_W$ and matrix polynomials orthogonal with respect to $\mu(x)$ are presented. In particular, for the case of nonsingular leading coefficients of the perturbation matrix polynomial $W(x)$ we present a generalization of the Christoffel formula constructed in terms of the Jordan chains of $W(x)$. For perturbations with a singular leading coefficient several examples by Dur\'an et al are revisited. In this contribution we consider sequences of monic polynomials orthogonal with respect to the standard Freud-like inner product involving a quartic potential $\left\langle p,q\right\rangle_{M}=\int_{\mathbb{R}}p(x)q(x)e^{-x^{4}+2tx^{2}}dx+Mp(0)q(0).$ We analyze some properties of these polynomials, such as the ladder operators and the holonomic equation that they satisfy and, as an application, we give an electrostatic interpretation of their zero distribution in terms of a logarithmic potential interaction under the action of an external field. It is also shown that the coefficients of their three term recurrence relation satisfy a nonlinear difference string equation. The aim of this paper is to provide Markov-type inequalities in the setting of weighted Sobolev spaces when the considered weights are generalized classical weights. Also, as results of independent interest, some basic facts about Sobolev spaces with respect to certain vector measures are stated.

We consider Koornwinder's method for constructing orthogonal polynomials in two variables from orthogonal polynomials in one variable. If semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in one variable are used, then Koornwinder's construction generates semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in two variables. We consider two methods for deducing matrix Pearson equations for weight functions associated with these polynomials, and consequently, we deduce the second order linear partial differential operators for classical Koornwinder polynomials.

We consider multiple Geronimus transformations and show that they lead to discrete (non-diagonal) Sobolev type inner products. Moreover, it is shown that every discrete Sobolev inner product can be obtained as a multiple Geronimus transformation. The multiresolution analysis of Alpert is considered. Explicit formulas for the entries in the matrix coefficients of the refinement equation are given in terms of hypergeometric functions. These entries are shown to solve generalized eigenvalue equations as well as partial difference equations. In this paper we consider the strong asymptotic behavior of Laguerre polynomials in the complex plane. The leading behavior is well known from Perron and Mehler-Heine formulas, but higher order coefficients, which are important in the context of Krall-Laguerre or Laguerre-Sobolev-type orthogonal polynomials, are notoriously difficult to compute. In this paper, we propose the use of an alternative expansion, due to Buchholz, in terms of Bessel functions of the first kind. The coefficients in this expansion can be obtained in a straightforward way using symbolic computation. As an application, we derive extra terms in the asymptotic expansion of ratios of Laguerre polynomials in $C\[0,\infty)$., Comment: 14 pages. The location and asymptotic behaviour for large n of the zeros of exceptional Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials are discussed. The zeros of exceptional polynomials fall into two classes: the regular zeros, which lie in the interval of orthogonality and the exceptional zeros, which lie outside that interval. We show that the regular zeros have two interlacing properties: one is the natural interlacing between consecutive polynomials as a consequence of their Sturm-Liouville character, while the other one shows interlacing between the zeros of exceptional and classical polynomials. A generalization of the classical Heine-Mehler formula is provided for the exceptional polynomials, which allows to derive the asymptotic behaviour of their regular zeros.
