Quantum networks aim to enable quantum information tasks among multiple parties. Quantum conference key agreement (QCKA) is a typical task in quantum networks, which distributes information-theoretically secure keys among multiple users. However, QCKA relying on directly distributing Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states over long distances faces significant challenges due to the fragility of these states. Measurement-device-independent QCKA (MDI-QCKA) based on distributing the postselected GHZ entanglement can address this issue and eliminate all loopholes in detection side channels. Here, by developing three-photon GHZ interference technology with high visibility among three independent coherent sources, we realized the first MDI-QCKA experiment over a 60 km fiber link, achieving a secret key rate of 45.5  bits/s. Our result represents a significant step towards practical long-distance QCKA using realistic devices. Moreover, the technology we developed opens the way to future multiparty quantum communications in quantum networks.

Color is critical factor in the commercialization of Matcha. In this study, sensory evaluation, color difference analysis, as well as targeted and non-targeted analyses were employed to investigate the impact of different drying temperature settings on the color characteristics of Tencha. The findings revealed that compared to a single drying temperature setting, a two-stage or multi-stage drying process more effectively preserved the color quality of Tencha. Specifically, a setting involving an initial period of high-temperature drying followed by low-temperature drying (samples T_6, T_7, T_10, and T_13) resulted in superior tea color quality, characterized by higher chlorophyll content and lower levels of lutein and β -carotene. Chemometric analysis identified chlorophylls and their derivatives (chlorophyll a /b, pheophytin a/b, pyropheophytin a/b) as the key factors influencing Tencha's color. The current representatives of the family Natrialbaceae within the class Halobacteria were subjected to phylogenetic, phylogenomic, and comparative genomic analyses. The current species of Halobiforma and Halomontanus were found to be related to those of Natronobacterium and Natronoglomus, respectively. According to the cutoff value of average amino acid identity (AAI) (≤ 76%) proposed to differentiate genera within the family Natrialbaceae, Halobiforma, and Natronoglomus should be merged with Natronobacterium and Halomontanus, respectively. Beyond these, four novel halophilic archaeal strains, CCL63 T , AD-5 T , CG52 T , and KLK7 T , isolated from three saline lakes and a saline-alkaline land in China, were simultaneously subjected to polyphasic classification. The phenotypic, phylogenetic, phylogenomic, and comparative genomic analyses indicated that strain CCL63 T (= CGMCC 1.18663 T  = JCM 35096 T ) represents a novel genus of the family Natrialbaceae, strains AD-5 T (= CGMCC 1.13783 T  = JCM 33734 T ) and CG52 T (= CGMCC 1.17139 T  = JCM 34160 T ) represent two novel species of the genus Natronococcus, and strain KLK7 T (= MCCC 4K00128 T  = KCTC 4307 T ) represents a novel species of Haloterrigena. Halovalidus salilacus gen. nov., sp. nov., Natronococcus wangiae sp. nov., Natronococcus zhouii sp. nov., and Haloterrigena salinisoli sp. nov. are further proposed based on these type strains accordingly., (© 2024. Quantum computers may offer significant computational advantages over classical counterparts, revolutionizing the technology landscape in the near future. When networked together, the advantage of quantum computing may be further amplified, and there may emerge innovative applications. Among various active explorations on distributed quantum computing, multiqubit quantum gates between distant networked quantum computers are of particular interest because they offer operational advantages of efficiency and fidelity. Here we report the first experimental demonstration of quantum teleportation for a Toffoli gate, which is a commonly used multiqubit quantum gate, across three spatially distributed parties within a photonic quantum network. Employing the Hofmann method, we estimate the fidelity of the teleported Toffoli gate to be at least 0.706 ± 0.131. This successful demonstration of the quantum teleportation of a Toffoli gate constitutes a critical step toward the ultimate realization of distributed quantum computation.

Quantum networks promise unprecedented advantages in information processing and open up intriguing new opportunities in fundamental research, where network topology and network nonlocality fundamentally underlie these applications. Hence, the detections of network topology and nonlocality are crucial, which, however, remain an open problem. Here, we conceive and experimentally demonstrate to determine the network topology and network nonlocality hosted by a triangle quantum network comprising three parties, within and beyond Bell theorem, with a general witness operator for the first time. We anticipate that this unique approach may stimulate further studies toward the efficient characterization of large complex quantum networks so as to better harness the advantage of quantum networks for quantum information applications.

Non-Hermitian systems can exhibit unique quantum phases without any Hermitian counterparts. For example, the latest theoretical studies predict a new surprising phenomenon that bulk bands can localize and dissipate prominently at the system boundary, which is dubbed the non-Hermitian edge burst effect. Here we realize a one-dimensional non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger lattice with bulk translation symmetry implemented with a photonic quantum walk. Employing time-resolved single-photon detection to characterize the chiral motion and boundary localization of bulk bands, we determine experimentally that the dynamics underlying the non-Hermitian edge burst effect is due to the interplay of non-Hermitian skin effect and imaginary band gap closing. This new non-Hermitian physical effect deepens our understanding of quantum dynamics in open quantum systems.

Two halophilic archaeal strains TS33 T and KZCA124 were isolated from two distant salt lakes on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, respectively. Culture-independent analysis indicated that these two strains were original inhabitants but low abundant taxa in respective salt lakes. Strains TS33 T and KZCA124 were able to grow at 20-60 °C (optimum were 42 and 35 °C, respectively), with 0.9-4.8 M NaCl (optimum were 3.0 and 2.6 M, respectively), with 0-0.7 M MgCl 2 (optimum, 0.3 M) and at pH 5.0-9.5 (optimum were pH 7.5 and pH 7, respectively). The 16S rRNA and rpoB' gene similarities between these two strains were 99.7% and 99.4%, and these two similarities among strains TS33 T , KZCA124, and existing species of the family Natrialbaceae were 90.6-95.5% and 84.4-89.3%, respectively. Phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses indicated that strains TS33 T and KZCA124 formed an independent branch separated from neighboring genera, Saliphagus, Natronosalvus, and Natronobiforma. The averagenucleotideidentity (ANI), digital DNA-DNAhybridization (dDDH), and average amino acid identity (AAI) values between strains TS33 T and KZCA124 were 96.4%, 73.1%, and 96.7%, respectively, higher than the thresholds for species demarcation. The overall genome-related indexes between these two strains and existing species of family Natrialbaceae were 73-77%, 21-25%, and 63-70%, respectively, significantly lower than the species boundary thresholds. Strains TS33 T and KZCA124 may represent a novel species of a new genus within the family Natrialbaceae judged by the cutoff value of AAI (≤76%) proposed to differentiate genera within the family Natrialbaceae. The major polar lipids of strains TS33 T and KZCA124 were phosphatidic acid, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester, sulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether, and sulfated galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether. These two strains could be distinguished from the related genera according to differential phenotypic characteristics. Current meta-analysis was performed to compare robotic hepatectomy (RH) with conventional open hepatectomy (OH) in terms of peri-operative and postoperative outcomes. PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were all searched up for comparative studies between RH and OH. RevMan5.3 software and Stata 13.0 software were used for statistical analysis. Nineteen studies with 1747 patients who received RH and 23,633 patients who received OH were included. Pooled results indicated that patients who received RH were generally younger than those received OH (P < 0.00001). Moreover, RH was associated with longer operative time (P = 0.0002), less intraoperative hemorrhage (P < 0.0001), lower incidence of intraoperative transfusion (P = 0.003), lower incidence of postoperative any morbidity (P < 0.00001), postoperative major morbidity (P = 0.0001), mortalities with 90 days after surgery (P < 0.0001), and shorter length of postoperative hospital stay (P < 0.00001). Comparable total hospital costs were acquired between RH and OH groups (P = 0.46). However, even at the premise of comparable R0 rate (P = 0.86), RH was associated with smaller resected tumor size (P < 0.00001). Major hepatectomy (P = 0.02) and right posterior hepatectomy (P = 0.0003) were less frequently performed in RH group. Finally, we concluded that RH was superior to OH in terms of peri-operative and postoperative outcomes. RH could lead to less intraoperative hemorrhage, less postoperative complications and an enhanced postoperative recovery. However, major hepatectomy and right posterior hepatectomy were still less frequently performed via robotic approach. Heisenberg-type measurement uncertainty relations (MURs) of two quantum observables are essential for contemporary research in quantum foundations and quantum information science. Going beyond, here we report the first experimental study of MUR of three quantum observables. We establish rigorously MURs for triplets of unbiased qubit observables as combined approximation errors lower bounded by an incompatibility measure, inspired by the proposal of Busch et al. [Phys. Rev. A 89, 012129 (2014)PLRAAN1050-294710.1103/PhysRevA.89.012129]. We develop a convex programming protocol to numerically find the exact value of the incompatibility measure and the optimal measurements. We propose a novel implementation of the optimal joint measurements and present several experimental demonstrations with a single-photon qubit. We stress that our method is universally applicable to the study of many qubit observables. Besides, we theoretically show that MURs for joint measurement can be attained by sequential measurements in two of our explored cases. We anticipate that this work may stimulate broad interests associated with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in the case of multiple observables, enriching our understanding of quantum mechanics and inspiring innovative applications in quantum information science.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, partially correlated with genetic origin, affecting over 70 million individuals worldwide. Despite the clinical importance of epilepsy, the functional analysis of neural activity in the central nervous system is still to be developed. Recent advancements in imaging technology, in combination with stable expression of genetically encoded calcium indicators, such as GCaMP6, have revolutionized the study of epilepsy at both brain-wide and single-cell resolution levels. Drosophila melanogaster has emerged as a tool for investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying epilepsy due to its sophisticated molecular genetics and behavioral assays. In this study, we present a novel and efficient protocol for ex vivo calcium imaging in GCaMP6-expressing adult Drosophila to monitor epileptiform activities. The whole brain is prepared from cac, a well-known epilepsy gene, knockdown flies for calcium imaging with a confocal microscope to identify the neural activity as a follow-up to the bang-sensitive seizure-like behavior assay. The cac knockdown flies showed a higher rate of seizure-like behavior and abnormal calcium activities, including more large spikes and fewer small spikes than wild-type flies. The calcium activities were correlated to seizure-like behavior. This methodology serves as an efficient methodology in screening the pathogenic genes for epilepsy and exploring the potential mechanism of epilepsy at the cellular level.

Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is more common in men aged 40 to 59, and radiotherapy is an effective treatment. Nasopharyngeal lymphoma (NPL) is rare, and the coexistence of nasopharyngeal mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and NPC is even rarer. A collision tumor is a rare type of tumor that refers to two or more different tumors occurring in the same organ. No reports to date have described a collision tumor of NPC and MCL occurring within the same nasopharyngeal mass. We herein report the successful treatment of a unique case of synchronous coexistence of NPC and MCL occurring in the nasopharynx of a Chinese man., Case Presentation: A 58-year-old man presented with a 5-month history of swallowing discomfort. Biopsy was performed under nasopharyngeal endoscopy, and histopathology revealed NPC. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed lesions in the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and tonsils, as well as enlarged lymph nodes in the parotid gland, posterior ear, and neck. This may be a synchronous dual primary tumor coexisting with NPC and NPL. Pathology consultation confirmed that the biopsy specimen of the nasopharynx was a collision tumor of NPC and MCL. Positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET-CT) revealed thickening of the posterior wall of the nasopharynx, which was considered NPC with lymphoma. The enlargement of the pharyngeal lymph ring and multiple hypermetabolic lymph nodes were evaluated as lymphoma infiltration. The patient received two courses of R-CHOP chemotherapy (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone) followed by head and neck radiotherapy. At the time of this writing, he had remained alive without recurrence for 61 months since the initial treatment and was still undergoing follow-up., Conclusions: It is very important to correctly recognize collision tumors. Magnetic resonance imaging helps identify different components of collision tumors. Pathological examination helps to confirm the diagnosis. Histological examination reveals different components, and PET-CT can help determine the extent of the lesion. Dose-adjusted chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy may have promising herapeutic effects, but additional case studies are needed to confirm., (© 2023. Introduction: It has been established that UBR4 encodes E3 ubiquitin ligase, which determines the specificity of substrate binding during protein ubiquitination and has been associated with various functions of the nervous system but not the reproductive system. Herein, we explored the role of UBR4 on fertility with a Drosophila model ., Methods: Different Ubr4 knockdown flies were established using the UAS/GAL4 activating sequence system. Fertility, hatchability, and testis morphology were studied, and bioinformatics analyses were conducted. Our results indicated that UBR4 deficiency could induce male sterility and influent egg hatchability in Drosophila ., Results: We found that Ubr4 deficiency affected the testis during morphological analysis. Proteomics analysis indicated 188 upregulated proteins and 175 downregulated proteins in the testis of Ubr4 knockdown flies. Gene Ontology analysis revealed significant upregulation of CG11598 and Sfp65A , and downregulation of Pelota in Ubr4 knockdown flies. These proteins were involved in the biometabolic or reproductive process in Drosophila . These regulated proteins are important in testis generation and sperm storage promotion. Poor stability retards the industrialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). One of the effective ways to solve this issue is to modify the perovskite surface to improve the efficiency and stability of the PSCs. Herein, we synthesized CuFeS 2 nanocrystals and applied them to modify the perovskite surface. The efficiency of the PSCs with CuFeS 2 modification is improved to 20.17% from 18.64% for the control devices. Some investigations demonstrate that the CuFeS 2 modification passivates the perovskite surface defects and induces better energy band arrangement. Furthermore, the stability of the PSCs with CuFeS 2 modification is improved compared with the devices without CuFeS 2 modification. The efficiency of the PSCs with CuFeS 2 modification maintains 93% of its initial value, whereas that of the devices without CuFeS 2 modification decreases to 61% of the initial value. This work demonstrates that CuFeS 2 is a novel material used as a modification layer to enhance the efficiency and stability of the PSCs.

Background: Obstetric critical illness is an important factor that leads to an increase in maternal mortality. Early warning assessment can effectively reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. However, there are multiple early warning systems, and the effect and applicability of each system in China still need to be explored., Objectives: To elaborate on the application, effectiveness and challenges of the existing early warning systems for high-risk obstetric women in China and to provide a reference for clinical practice., Design: A scoping review guided by the Arksey and O'Malley framework and reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis for scoping review (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines., Eligibility Criteria: We included original studies related to early warning and excluded those that were guidelines, consensus and reviews. The included studies were published in Chinese or English by Chinese scholars as of June 2021., Data Sources: CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Cochrane, CINAHL, Embase, PubMed and Web of Science databases were searched systematically, and the reference sections of the included papers were snowballed., Results: In total, 598 articles were identified. These articles were further refined using keyword searches and exclusion criteria, and 17 articles met the inclusion criteria. We extracted data related to each study's population, methods and results. Early warning tools, outcome indices, effects and challenges are discussed., Conclusions: Although all studies have shown that early warning systems have good application effects, the use of early warning systems in China is still limited, with poor regional management and poor sensitivity for specific obstetric women. YWHAZ encodes an adapter protein 14-3-3ζ, which is involved in many signaling pathways that control cellular proliferation, migration and differentiation. It has not been definitely correlated to any phenotype in OMIM. To investigate the role of YWHAZ gene in intellectual disability and global developmental delay, we conducted whole-exon sequencing in all of the available members from a large three-generation family and we discovered that a novel variant of the YWHAZ gene was associated with intellectual disability and global developmental delay. This variant is a missense mutation of YWHAZ, p.Lys49Asn/c.147A > T, which was found in all affected members but not found in other unaffected members. We also conducted computational modeling and knockdown/knockin with Drosophila to confirm the role of the YWHAZ variant in intellectual disability. Computational modeling showed that the binding energy was increased in the mutated protein combining with the ligand indicating that the c147A > T variation was a loss-of-function variant. Cognitive defects and mushroom body morphological abnormalities were observed in YWHAZ c.147A > T knockin flies. The YWHAZ knockdown flies also manifested serious cognitive defects with hyperactivity behaviors, which is consistent with the clinical features. While Bell nonlocality of a bipartite system is counterintuitive, multipartite nonlocality in our many-body world turns out to be even more so. Recent theoretical study reveals in a theory-agnostic manner that genuine multipartite nonlocal correlations cannot be explained by any causal theory involving fewer-partite nonclassical resources and global shared randomness. Here, we provide a Bell-type inequality as a test for genuine multipartite nonlocality in network by exploiting a matrix representation of the causal structure of a multipartite system. We further present experimental demonstrations that both four-photon GHZ state and generalized four-photon GHZ state significantly violate the inequality, i.e., the observed four-partite correlations resist explanations involving three-way nonlocal resources subject to local operations and common shared randomness, hence confirming that nature is boundless multipartite nonlocal.

There are negative correlations between indices of heart rate variability (HRV) and markers of inflammation. The inflammation plays an important role in myocardial damages after myocardial infarction (MI). Our previous study found that fastigial nucleus electrostimulation (FNS) improved abnormal HRV in a rat model of MI. Whether it can reduce inflammation and improve cardiac function after MI and the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. 66 Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups as follows: i) Sham group (sham operation); ii) MI group (left anterior descending coronary artery ligation); iii) FNS + MI group (left fastigial nucleus electrostimulation plus MI); iv) FNL + FNS + MI group (left fastigial nucleus lesion plus FNS plus MI). The serum expressions of acetylcholine (ACh), pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), and anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 were measured by ELISA. Subsequently, the infarct size, the infiltration of inflammatory cells, the fibrotic area, and cardiac function were also evaluated. Additionally, the expressions of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAP)-related proteins in infarct tissue, such as nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and singal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3), were determined by Western blot. We found that FNS significantly increased ACh and IL-10 levels in serum, and decreased TNF-α and IL-6 levels. FNS significantly attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration, reduced infarct size, decreased fibrosis, increased left ventricular ejection fraction, and reduced mortality. Besides, the ratios of phosphorylated-STAT3/STAT3 and phosphorylated-NF-κB/NF-κB in infarct tissue significantly elevated after MI. FNS reduced the ratios of p-STAT3/STAT3 and p-NF-κB/NF-κB in infarct tissue. The protective effects of FNS were partially reversed by the fastigial nucleus lesion. Our data suggested that FNS can alleviate the inflammation after MI, and its cardiac neuroprotective mechanism may be achieved by increasing vagal tone, releasing ACh, and further activating the CAP via α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. Aim: The aim of this study was to gain insight into factors affecting career adaptability of newly graduated nurses and ways to improve them., Background: Newly graduated nurses face an important transition from student to professional. Unfortunately, the nurse turnover rate is high due to maladaptation. Factors influencing career adaptability and improvement methods have not been clearly addressed., Methods: Using a descriptive qualitative study with thematic analysis, 15 newly graduated nurses from a tertiary obstetrics and gynaecology teaching hospital in China were interviewed., Results: Six themes affecting career adaptability were found: personality, self-confidence, occupational care focus, work-related stress, basic professional competency and gap between reality and expectations. Four themes improving career adaptability were identified: strong social support, self-adjustment, self-development and career preparation. Eight subthemes were also identified., Conclusions: Individual, family and work factors were among those affecting career adaptability among newly graduated nurses. Newly graduated nurses would improve their career adaptability through self-adjustment and social support. Helping them to promote these factors and measures is conducive to improving their career adaptability and reducing staff turnover., Implications for Nursing Management: Nurse managers should be aware of the key factors affecting career adaptability among newly graduated nurses and design targeted improvement programmes., (© 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

LRP1, the low-density lipoprotein receptor 1, would be a novel candidate gene of epilepsy according to our bioinformatic results and the animal study. In this study, we explored the role of LRP1 in epilepsy and whether beta-hydroxybutyrate, the principal ketone body of the ketogenic diet, can treat epilepsy caused by LRP1 deficiency in drosophila. UAS/GAL4 system was used to establish different genotype models. Flies were given standard, high-sucrose, and ketone body food randomly. The bang-sensitive test was performed on flies and seizure-like behavior was assessed. In morphologic experiments, we found that LRP1 deficiency caused partial loss of the ellipsoidal body and partial destruction of the fan-shaped body. Whole-body and glia LRP1 defect flies had a higher seizure rate compared to the control group. Ketone body decreased the seizure rate in behavior test in all LRP1 defect flies, compared to standard and high sucrose diet. Overexpression of glutamate transporter gene Eaat1 could mimic the ketone body effect on LRP1 deficiency flies. This study demonstrated that LRP1 defect globally or in glial cells or neurons could induce epilepsy in drosophila. The ketone body efficaciously rescued epilepsy caused by LRP1 knockdown. The results support screening for LRP1 mutations as discriminating conduct for individuals who require clinical attention and further clarify the mechanism of the ketogenic diet in epilepsy, which could help epilepsy patients make a precise treatment case by case., (© 2022. Background Ultrasound-guided continuous thoracic paravertebral block can provide pain-relieving and opioid-sparing effects in patients receiving open hepatectomy. We hypothesize that these effects may improve the quality of recovery (QoR) after open hepatectomy. Methods Seventy-six patients undergoing open hepatectomy were randomized to receive a continuous thoracic paravertebral block with ropivacaine (CTPVB group) or normal saline (control group). All patients received patient-controlled intravenous analgesia with morphine postoperatively for 48 hours. The primary outcome was the global Chinese 15-item Quality of Recovery score on postoperative day 7, which was statistically analyzed using Student's t-test. Results Thirty-six patients in the CTPVB group and 37 in the control group completed the study. Compared to the control group, the CTPVB group had significantly increased global Chinese 15-item Quality of Recovery scores (133.14 ± 12.97 vs. 122.62 ± 14.89, P = 0.002) on postoperative day 7. Postoperative pain scores and cumulative morphine consumption were significantly lower for up to 8 and 48 hours ( P < 0.05; P = 0.002), respectively, in the CTPVB group. Conclusion Perioperative CTPVB markably promotes patient's QoR after open hepatectomy with a profound analgesic effect in the early postoperative period.

Quantum theory is commonly formulated in complex Hilbert spaces. However, the question of whether complex numbers need to be given a fundamental role in the theory has been debated since its pioneering days. Recently it has been shown that tests in the spirit of a Bell inequality can reveal quantum predictions in entanglement swapping scenarios that cannot be modeled by the natural real-number analog of standard quantum theory. Here, we tailor such tests for implementation in state-of-the-art photonic systems. We experimentally demonstrate quantum correlations in a network of three parties and two independent EPR sources that violate the constraints of real quantum theory by over 4.5 standard deviations, hence disproving real quantum theory as a universal physical theory.

Background and Objectives: The adjuvant treatment of stem cell therapy for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has been studied in multiple clinical trials, but many questions remain to be addressed, such as efficacy, safety, identification of the optimal cell type, tractable route of delivery, transplant dosage, and transplant timing. The current meta-analysis aimed to explore the issues of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation in patients with AMI based on published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and guide the design of subsequent clinical trials of MSCs therapy for AMI., Methods: The Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE databases were searched for relevant clinical trials from January 1, 2000, to January 23, 2021. Results from RCTs involving MSCs transplantation for the treatment of AMI were identified. According to the Cochrane systematic review method, the literature quality, including studies, was evaluated and valid data was extracted. Rev- Man 5.3 and Stata 15.1 software were used for Meta-analysis., Results: After literature search and detailed evaluation, 9 randomized controlled trials enrolling 460 patients were included in the quantitative analysis. Pooled analyses indicated that MSCs therapy was associated with a significantly greater improvement in overall left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and the effect was maintained for up to 24 months. No significant difference in favor of MSCs treatment in left ventricular (LV) volume and in the risk of rehospitalization as a result of heart failure (HF) was noted, compared with the controls. For transplantation dose, the LVEF of patients accepting a MSCs dose of 10 7 -10 8 cells was significantly increased by 2.62% (95% CI 1.54 to 3.70; P < 0.00001; I 2 =0%), but this increase was insignificant in the subgroup that accepted a MSCs dose of < 107 cells (1.65% in LVEF, 95% CI, 0.03 to 3.27; P =0.05; I 2 =75%) or >10 8 cells (4.65% in LVEF, 95% CI, -4.55 to 13.48; P =0.32; I 2 =95%), compared with the controls. For transplantation timing, a significant improvement of LVEF of 3.18% was achieved in the group of patients accepting a MSCs infusion within 2 to 14 days after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) (95% CI, 2.89 to 3.47; P <0.00001; I 2 = 0). There was no association between MSCs therapy and major adverse events., Conclusion: Results from our systematic review suggest that MSCs therapy for patients with AMI appears to be safe and might induce a significant increase in LVEF with a limited impact on LV volume and rehospitalization caused by HF. The effect was maintained for up to 24 months. MSCs dose of 10 7 -10 8 cells was more likely to achieve better clinical endpoints than <10 7 or >10 8 cells. The optimal time window for cell transplantation might be within 2-14 days after PCI. It's a challenge for detecting the therapeutic targets of a polypharmacological drug from variations in the responsed networks in the differentiated populations with complex diseases, as stable coronary heart disease. Here, in an adaptive, 31-center, randomized, double-blind trial involving 920 patients with moderate symptomatic stable angina treated by 14-day Danhong injection(DHI), a kind of polypharmacological drug with high quality control, or placebo (0.9% saline), with 76-day following-up, we firstly confirmed that DHI could increase the proportion of patients with clinically significant changes on angina-frequency assessed by Seattle Angina Questionnaire (ΔSAQ-AF ≥ 20) (12.78% at Day 30, 95% confidence interval [CI] 5.86-19.71%, P = 0.0003, 13.82% at Day 60, 95% CI 6.82-20.82%, P = 0.0001 and 8.95% at Day 90, 95% CI 2.06-15.85%, P = 0.01). We also found that there were no significant differences in new-onset major vascular events (P = 0.8502) and serious adverse events (P = 0.9105) between DHI and placebo. After performing the RNA sequencing in 62 selected patients, we developed a systemic modular approach to identify differentially expressed modules (DEMs) of DHI with the Z summary value less than 0 compared with the control group, calculated by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and sketched out the basic framework on a modular map with 25 functional modules targeted by DHI. Furthermore, the effective therapeutic module (ETM), defined as the highest correlation value with the phenotype alteration (ΔSAQ-AF, the change in SAQ-AF at Day 30 from baseline) calculated by WGCNA, was identified in the population with the best effect (ΔSAQ-AF ≥ 40), which is related to anticoagulation and regulation of cholesterol metabolism. We assessed the modular flexibility of this ETM using the global topological D value based on Euclidean distance, which is correlated with phenotype alteration (r 2 : 0.8204, P = 0.019) by linear regression. Our study identified the anti-angina therapeutic module in the effective population treated by the multi-target drug. Background: Double kissing (DK) crush approach for patients with coronary bifurcation lesions, particularly localized at distal left main or lesions with increased complexity, is associated with significant reduction in clinical events when compared with provisional stenting. Recently, randomized clinical trial has demonstrated the net clinical benefits by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided implantation of drug-eluting stent in all-comers. However, the improvement in clinical outcome after DK crush treatment guided by IVUS over angiography guidance for patients with complex bifurcation lesions have never been studied in a randomized fashion., Trial Design: DKCRUSH VIII study is a prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial designed to assess superiority of IVUS-guided vs angiography-guided DK crush stenting in patients with complex bifurcation lesions according to DEFINITION criteria. A total of 556 patients with complex bifurcation lesions will be randomly (1:1 of ratio) assigned to IVUS-guided or angiography-guided DK crush stenting group. The primary end point is the rate of 12-month target vessel failure, including cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction, or clinically driven target vessel revascularization. The secondary end points consist of the individual component of primary end point, all-cause death, myocardial infarction, and in-stent restenosis. The safety end point is the incidence of definite or probable stent thrombosis. An angiographic follow-up will be performed for all patients at 13 months and clinical follow-up will be continued annually until 3 years after the index procedure., Conclusions: DKCRUSH VIII trial is the first study designed to evaluate the differences in efficacy and safety between IVUS-guided and angiography-guided DK crush stenting in patients with complex true bifurcation lesions. Milky tea is popular in many countries and its color is an important sensory property. The effects of black tea infusion on the color of milky tea prepared with non-dairy creamer were investigated. The results showed that the redder black tea infusion produced milky tea with more redness, and the color of milky tea was a pleasant pink when the a* value (redness indicator) was in the range of 6.0-7.0. Correlation analysis revealed that the respective theaflavins (TFs), thearubigins (TRs), thearubigins (TBs), (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and chlorogenic acid contents significantly correlated with the a* values of milky tea. A series of complementary experiments were performed to elucidate that TFs and EGCG contributed to the redness of milky tea. The color formation was mainly associated with the binding of phenols to the proteins in the non-dairy creamer. Purpose: Although breast conservation surgery(BCS) followed by adjuvant radiotherapy is now the mainstream treatment method for breast ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS), mastectomy is still performed in some patients who refuse to undergo radiation. However, the most effective treatment method for these patients is still unknown. In the current study, we aimed to compare the survival rates between mastectomy and BCS plus adjuvant radiotherapy in patients with DCIS., Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 333 patients with DCIS from May 2004 to December 2016. There were 209 patents who were treated with BCS and adjuvant radiotherapy, while the remaining of 124 patients underwent mastectomy. The disease-free survival (DFS) and local recurrence-free survival(LRFS) rates were compared between the 2 treatment groups. Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to explore factors associated with DFS and LRFS., Results: The 10-year local recurrence(LR) rates in the mastectomy and BCS plus adjuvant radiotherapy groups were 2.6% and 7.5%, respectively. There was no difference in the LR rate between the 2 groups. Furthermore the DFS rate was also similar between the mastectomy and BCS plus adjuvant radiotherapy groups. Based on the multivariable analysis, age and tumor grade were significantly correlated with the LRFS and DFS rates. In the subgroup analysis based on the factors of age and tumor grade, patients with a tumor grade of III who underwent mastectomy had better LRFS and DFS rates compared to those who received BCS plus radiotherapy., Conclusion: In patients with DCIS, the long-term efficacy was similar between mastectomy and BCS followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. However, in the subgroup of patients with grade III tumors, mastectomy seems to offer a better LRFS and DFS than BCS plus radiotherapy.

Three new dimeric diarylheptanoids, taccachanfurans A-C ( 1 - 3 ), a new monomeric diarylheptanoid, taccachannoid A ( 4 ), and four known diarylheptanoids ( 5 - 8 ) were isolated from the EtOH extract of the rhizomes of Tacca chantrieri . Their structures were established on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis. The absolute configuration of taccachanfuran A ( 1 ) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All the diarylheptanoid dimers contain a ditetrahydrofuran moiety, which has not been described previously for diarylheptanoid compounds. A plausible biosynthetic pathway for the diarylheptanoid dimers is proposed. Compounds 2 - 4 showed significant neuroprotective activity against Aβ 25-35 -induced damage in SH-SY5Y cells at the concentrations of 10 and 1 μM. Compounds 3 , 4 , 6 , 7 , and 8 showed anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated murine microglial BV-2 cells at the concentrations of 10 and 1 μM.

Accumulating evidence has emerged revealing that noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) play essential roles in the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the complicated regulatory interactions among various ncRNAs in the development of HCC are not entirely understood. The newly discovered mechanism of competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) uncovered regulatory interactions among different varieties of RNAs. In recent years, a growing number of studies have suggested that ncRNAs, including long ncRNAs, circular RNAs and pseudogenes, play major roles in the biological functions of the ceRNA network in HCC. These ncRNAs can share microRNA response elements to affect microRNA affinity with target RNAs, thus regulating gene expression at the transcriptional level and both physiological and pathological processes. The ncRNAs that function as ceRNAs are involved in diverse biological processes in HCC cells, such as tumor cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, invasion, metastasis and chemoresistance. Based on these findings, ncRNAs that act as ceRNAs may be promising candidates for clinical diagnosis and treatments. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms and research methods of ceRNA networks. We also reviewed the recent advances in studying the roles of ncRNAs as ceRNAs in HCC and highlight possible directions and possibilities of ceRNAs as diagnostic biomarkers or therapeutic targets. Background: Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) carries a poor prognosis and requires a prediction method. Gamma-glutamyl transferase-to-platelet ratio (GPR) is a recently reported cancer prognostic factor. Although the mechanism for the relationship between GPR and poor cancer prognosis remains unclear, studies have demonstrated the clinical effect of both gamma-glutamyl transferase and platelet count on GBC and related gallbladder diseases., Aim: To assess the prognostic value of GPR and to design a prognostic nomogram for GBC., Methods: The analysis involved 130 GBC patients who underwent surgery at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from December 2003 to April 2017. The patients were stratified into a high- or low-GPR group. The predictive ability of GPR was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis and a Cox regression model. We developed a nomogram based on GPR, which we verified using calibration curves. The nomogram and other prognosis prediction models were compared using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curves and the concordance index., Results: Patients in the high-GPR group had a higher risk of jaundice, were older, and had higher carbohydrate antigen 19-9 levels and worse postoperative outcomes. Univariate analysis revealed that GPR, age, body mass index, tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage, jaundice, cancer cell differentiation degree, and carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 levels were related to overall survival (OS). Multivariate analysis confirmed that GPR, body mass index, age, and TNM stage were independent predictors of poor OS. Calibration curves were highly consistent with actual observations. Impairment of the dopamine system is the main cause of Parkinson disease (PD). PTEN-induced kinase 1 (PINK1) is possibly involved in pathogenesis of PD. However, its role in dopaminergic neurons has not been fully established yet. In the present investigation, we have used the PINK1 knockout Drosophila model to explore the role of PINK1 in dopaminergic neurons. Electrophysiological and behavioral tests indicated that PINK1 elimination enhances the neural transmission from the presynaptic part of dopaminergic neurons in the protocerebral posterior medial region 3 (PPM3) to PPM3 neurons (which are homologous to those in the substantia nigra in humans). Firing properties of the action potential in PPM3 neurons were also altered in the PINK1 knockout genotypes. Abnormal motor ability was also observed in these PINK1 knockout animals. Our results indicate that knockout of PINK1 could alter both the input and output properties of PPM3 neurons.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the biological effects of circRNA&#95;002178 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues and to analyze its potential mechanism., Patients and Methods: CircRNA&#95;002178 expression in 50 pairs of OSCC tissues and adjacent ones was studied by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) analysis, and the correlations of circRNA&#95;002178 with clinicopathological indicators, as wells as prognosis of OSCC patients were analyzed. qPCR was used to verify circRNA&#95;002178 expression in OSCC cell lines. Subsequently, circRNA&#95;002178 knockdown models were constructed using lentivirus in OSCC cell lines, and the impacts of circRNA&#95;002178 on the function of OSCC cells were assessed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) test, plate cloning experiment, transwell assay and nude mouse tumor formation experiments. Finally, rescue experiments in vitro were used to explore the potential mechanism of circRNA&#95;002178 activating Akt/mTOR pathway., Results: Our data showed that circRNA&#95;002178 expression in OSCC tissue specimens was remarkably higher than that in adjacent ones. In comparison to patients in low circRNA&#95;002178 expression group, patients in high expression group showed higher incidences of advanced pathological stage and distant metastasis, and a lower overall survival rate. Cell functional experiments revealed that knockdown of circRNA&#95;002178 markedly attenuated the proliferation and migration ability of OSCC cells compared to the sh-NC group, and the consistent results were observed in the nude mouse experiment. In addition, Western blot suggested that the expression of key proteins in Akt/mTOR signaling pathway was remarkably reduced after downregulation of circRNA&#95;002178 in OSCC cells. Meanwhile, Akt activator SC79 reversed the inhibitory effect of circRNA&#95;002178 on the metastasis and proliferation of OSCC cells., Conclusions: CircRNA&#95;002178, over-expressed in OSCC tissues and cell lines, may promote the malignant progression of OSCC through activating the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.

Objective: To investigate the outcomes of limited stage small cell lung cancer (L-SCLC) undergoing surgical therapy and to explore the value of adjuvant therapy for those patients. Methods: A retrospective analysis was initialed for the L-SCLC patients who underwent the surgical treatment in the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from January 2012 to December 2018. The median disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Cox regression was used to explore the prognostic factors. Results: A total of 44 patients were included in our study. The median DFS was 25 months, 1- and 2-year DFS rate were 70.2% and 51.9%, respectively. The median OS was 41 months, 1- and 2- year OS rate were 88.4% and 69.9%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed male ( RR =6.56, P =0.03), T3-4 ( RR =6.23, P =0.01), pathological lymph node metastasis ( RR =6.52, P =0.03) and adjuvant radiotherapy ( RR =0.13, P =0.002) were associated with disease relapse significantly. Moreover, pathological lymph node metastasis ( RR =3.62, P =0.01) coupled with sufficient adjuvant chemotherapy (≥4 cycles) ( RR =0.12, P =0.01) were independent prognostic factors of OS. Conclusions: Surgical therapy may be an alternative primary treatment for L-SCLC. Additional adjuvant radiotherapy can reduce the risk of recurrence. Giving sufficient course of adjuvant chemotherapy can improve OS.

Revealing the contribution of π-π stacking interactions in supramolecular assembly is important for understanding the intrinsic nature of molecular assembly fundamentally. However, because they are much weaker than covalent bonds, π-π stacking interactions are usually ignored in the construction of porous materials. Obtaining stable porous materials that are only dependent on π-π stacking interactions, despite being very challenging, could address this concern. Here, we present a porous supramolecular framework ( π-1 ) stabilized only by intermolecular π-π stacking interactions. π-1 shows good thermal and chemical stability not only in various organic solvents but also in aqueous solution in a broad pH range. Furthermore, featuring one-dimensional channels with dangling thiolate groups, π-1 exhibits excellent Hg 2+ removal performance, with adsorption capacity as high as 786.67 mg g -1 and an adsorption ratio as high as 99.998%. Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are tumor-associated biological molecules and have been found to be implicated in the progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aims to examine the effects of lncRNA RP11-468E2.5 and its target genes (STAT5 and STAT6) on the biological activities of CRC cells via the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway., Methods: We initially screened the GEO database for differentially expressed lncRNAs related to CRC and then made a prediction of the implicated target genes. Then we collected CRC tissues and adjacent normal tissues from 169 CRC patients. Human CRC HCT116 and SW480 cells were treated with small interference RNA (siRNA) against RP11-468E2.5, AG490 (an inhibitor of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway), or both in combination. Next, we measured the effects of RP11-468E2.5 treatment on cellular activities such as cell viability, cycle distribution and cell apoptosis, and studied interactions among RP11-468E2.5, STAT5/STAT6, and the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. Finally, an in vivo tumor formation assay was performed to observe the effect of RP11-468E2.5 on tumor growth., Results: The CRC-related gene microarray data showed low expression of RP11-468E2.5 in CRC surgical specimens. However, RP11-468E2.5 was confirmed to target STAT5 and STAT6, which participate in the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. CRC tissues showed lower expression of RP11-468E2.5, higher expression of STAT5, STAT6 and of the cell cycle marker Cyclin D1 (CCND1), compared to the findings in adjacent normal tissues. The treatment of siRNA against RP11-468E2.5 increased expression of JAK2, STAT3, STAT5, STAT6, CCND1 and Bcl-2 along with the extent of STAT3, STAT5 and STAT6 phosphorylation, while lowering expression of P21 and P27. Treatment with AG490 exhibited approximately opposite effects, whereas siRNA against RP11-468E2.5 treatment stimulated CRC cell proliferation and reduced cell apoptosis, while promoting cell cycle entry; AG490 treatment reversed these results., Conclusions: Altogether, we conclude that up-regulation of RP11-468E2.5 inhibits the JAK/STAT signaling pathway by targeting STAT5 and STAT6, thereby suppressing cell proliferation and promoting cell apoptosis in CRC.

We derive a state-dependent error-disturbance trade-off based on a statistical distance in the sequential measurements of a pair of noncommutative observables and experimentally verify the relation with a photonic qubit system. We anticipate that this Letter may further stimulate the study on the quantum uncertainty principle and related applications in quantum measurements.

Background: The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system is the most widely used staging system for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the classifications of early (BCLC-A) and intermediate (BCLC-B) stage HCC remain controversial., Aim: To refine the staging of BCLC-A and -B., Methods: A total of 986 patients with HCC undergoing liver resection from two institutions formed the training cohort, and 694 from another institution were the validation cohort. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the performance of tumour size in predicting overall survival (OS), and determined the optimised cut-off. Discriminatory performance was evaluated using Harrell's concordance index (C-index)., Results: Patients with multiple tumours exceeding Milan criteria but within up-to-seven criteria had similar OS and disease-free survival (DFS) to those with multiple tumours meeting Milan criteria, and were assigned to the modified BCLC-A stage. The area under the ROC curve of tumour size for predicting OS was 0.778, and the diameter of 7 cm was the optimal cut-off to identify patients with single tumours who had higher OS than BCLC-B stage patients. Due to the similar OS, patients with single HCCs >7 cm were assigned to the modified BCLC-B stage. The C-indexes of the modified BCLC classification for OS and DFS were higher compared to the original version. The findings were supported by the validation cohort., Conclusions: The modified staging of BCLC-A and -B, based on single tumour >7 cm and multiple tumours beyond up-to-seven criteria, could be more accurate to predict the prognosis of HCC patients. Purpose: To explore the validity of two kinds of pain assessment tools for ICU patients after oral and maxillofacial surgery., Methods: A total of 30 ICU patients post oral and maxillofacial surgery were included, and the patients' pain was assessed by 2 independent research nurses with 2 kinds of pain assessment tools (CPOT and BPS) at the same time under non-pain stimulations and pain stimulation (non-invasive blood pressure measurement and closed endotracheal intubation suction). The repeated assessment point included rest state, during intervention, 20 minutes after intervention. For conscious patients, pain score was also obtained by 1 researcher with numerical rating scale (NRS) after closed endotracheal intubation suction. The data were analyzed by reliability and validation test using SPSS 17.0 software package., Results: The internal consistency of CPOT and BPS was 0.809 and 0.878, respectively. In the analysis of discriminant validity, the pain stimulations scores of 2 scales were significantly higher than those in other assessment point (P<0.05); In the criterion validity, Spearman correlation coefficient between CPOT score and NRS score was 0.542, 0.461 between BPS score and NRS score during pain stimulation process. The results of sensitivity and specificity analysis revealed that when the CPOT score was cut by 3.5 point, the sensitivity and specificity were 55% and 96.7%, respectively, the area under ROC curve (AUC) was 0.799; when the BPS score was cut by 7 point, the sensitivity and specificity respectively were 50% and 100%, respectively, the area under ROC curve (AUC) was 0.743., Conclusions: Both CPOT and BPS have good reliability and validity, which may be used to assess the pain of ICU patients in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Objective: Salmonella enterica remains a major cause of food-borne disease in humans, and Salmonella Typhimurium (ST) contamination of poultry products is a worldwide problem. Since macrophages play an essential role in controlling Salmonella infection, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of glycyrrhizic acid (GA) on immune function of chicken HD11 macrophages., Methods: Chicken HD11 macrophages were treated with GA (0, 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200, 400, or 800 μg/ml) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 500 ng/ml) for 3, 6, 12, 24, or 48 h. Evaluated responses included phagocytosis, bacteria-killing, gene expression of cell surface molecules (cluster of differentiation 40 (CD40), CD80, CD83, and CD197) and antimicrobial effectors (inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), NADPH oxidase-1 (NOX-1), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), LPS-induced tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α factor (LITAF), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and IL-10), and production of nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 )., Results: GA increased the internalization of both fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-dextran and ST by HD11 cells and markedly decreased the intracellular survival of ST. We found that the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of cell surface molecules (CD40, CD80, CD83, and CD197) and cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-6, and IL-10) of HD11 cells was up-regulated following GA exposure. The expression of iNOS and NOX-1 was induced by GA and thereby the productions of NO and H 2 O 2 in HD11 cells were enhanced. Notably, it was verified that nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathways were responsible for GA-induced synthesis of NO and IFN-γ gene expression., Conclusions: Taken together, these results suggested that GA exhibits a potent immune regulatory effect to activate chicken macrophages and enhances Salmonella-killing capacity.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (about 85-90% of primary liver cancer) is particularly prevalent in China because of the high prevalence of chronic hepatitis B infection. HCC is the fourth most common malignancy and the third leading cause of tumor-related deaths in China. It poses a significant threat to the life and health of Chinese people., Summary: This guideline presents official recommendations of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China on the surveillance, diagnosis, staging, and treatment of HCC occurring in China. The guideline was written by more than 50 experts in the field of HCC in China (including liver surgeons, medical oncologists, hepatologists, interventional radiologists, and diagnostic radiologists) on the basis of recent evidence and expert opinions, balance of benefits and harms, cost-benefit strategies, and other clinical considerations., Key Messages: The guideline presents the Chinese staging system, and recommendations regarding patients with HCC in China to ensure optimum patient outcomes.
