Background Gadoxetate disodium has been associated with various respiratory irregularities at arterial imaging MRI. Purpose To measure the relationship between gadolinium-based contrast agent administration and irregularities by comparing gadoxetate disodium and gadoterate meglumine at free breathing. Materials and Methods This prospective observational cohort study (January 2015 to May 2017) included consecutive abdominal MRI performed with either gadoxetate disodium or gadoterate meglumine enhancement. Participants underwent dynamic imaging by using the golden-angle radial sparse parallel sequence at free breathing. The quantitative assessment evaluated the aortic contrast enhancement, the respiratory hepatic translation, and the k-space-derived respiratory pattern. Analyses of variance compared hemodynamic metrics, respiratory-induced hepatic motion, and respiratory parameters before and after respiratory gating. Results A total of 497 abdominal MRI examinations were included. Of these, 338 participants were administered gadoxetate disodium (mean age, 59 years ± 15; 153 women) and 159 participants were administered gadoterate meglumine (mean age, 59 years ± 17; 85 women). The arterial bolus of gadoxetate disodium arrived later than gadoterate meglumine (19.7 vs 16.3 seconds, respectively; P < .001). Evaluation of the hepatic respiratory translation showed respiratory motion occurring in 70.7% (239 of 338) of participants who underwent gadoxetate-enhanced examinations and in 28.9% (46 of 159) of participants who underwent gadoterate-enhanced examinations (P < .001). The duration of motion irregularities was longer for gadoxetate than for gadoterate (19.2 seconds vs 17.2 seconds, respectively) and the motion irregularities were more severe (P < .001). Both the respiratory frequency and amplitude were shorter for participants administered gadoxetate from the prebolus phase to the late arterial phase compared with gadoterate (P < .001). Conclusion The administration of two different gadolinium-based contrast agents, gadoxetate and gadoterate, at free-breathing conditions potentially leads to respiratory irregularities with differing intensity and onset. © RSNA, 2019 Online supplemental material is available for this article.

Purpose\ud \ud A 3D fat-navigator (3D FatNavs)-based retrospective motion correction is an elegant approach to correct for motion as it requires no additional hardware and can be acquired during existing ‘dead-time’ within common 3D protocols. The purpose of this study was to clinically evaluate 3D FatNavs in the work-up of brain tumors.\ud \ud \ud Methods\ud \ud An MRI-based fat-excitation motion navigator incorporated into a standard MPRAGE sequence was acquired in 40 consecutive patients with (or with suspected) brain tumors, pre and post-Gadolinium injection. Each case was categorized into key anatomical landmarks, the temporal lobes, the infra-tentorial region, the basal ganglia, the bifurcations of the middle cerebral artery, and the A2 segment of the anterior cerebral artery. First, the severity of motion in the non-corrected MPRAGE was assessed for each landmark, using a 5-point score from 0 (no artifacts) to 4 (non-diagnostic). Second, the improvement in image quality in each pair and for each landmark was assessed blindly using a 4-point score from 0 (identical) to 3 (strong correction).\ud \ud \ud Results\ud \ud The mean image improvement score throughout the datasets was 0.54. Uncorrected cases with light and no artifacts displayed scores of 0.50 and 0.13, respectively, while cases with moderate artifacts, severe artifacts, and non-diagnostic image quality revealed a mean score of 1.17, 2.25, and 1.38, respectively.\ud \ud \ud Conclusion\ud \ud Fat-navigator-based retrospective motion correction significantly improved MPRAGE image quality in restless patients during MRI acquisition. There was no loss of image quality in patients with little or no motion, and improvements were consistent in patients who moved more.

This article is dedicated to the adaptive wavelet boundary element method. It computes an approximation to the unknown solution of the boundary integral equation under consideration with a rate \(N_{\text{dof}}^{-s}\), whenever the solution can be approximated with this rate in the setting determined by the underlying wavelet basis. The computational cost scale linearly in the number Ndof of degrees of freedom. Goal-oriented error estimation for evaluating linear output functionals of the solution is also considered. An algorithm is proposed that approximately evaluates a linear output functional with a rate \(N_{\text{dof}}^{-(s+t)}\), whenever the primal solution can be approximated with a rate \(N_{\text{dof}}^{-s}\) and the dual solution can be approximated with a rate \(N_{\text{dof}}^{-t}\), while the cost still scale linearly in Ndof. Numerical results for an acoustic scattering problem and for the point evaluation of the potential in case of the Laplace equation are reported to validate and quantify the approach.
