Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to examine the counterfeiting process in Italy, at a subnational level.Design/methodology/approach– The paper uses panel data estimators and mixture models regression.Findings– The paper finds that homogeneous clusters of regions could be derived, as a result of economic and geographical reasons. Moreover, household and public administration expenditure, indirect taxation, foreigners/population ratio and the number of ports have a positive impact on the counterfeiting diffusion index.Practical implications– The paper is practical as a source of reference in contrasting counterfeiting process.Originality/value– The paper uses new data applying recent econometric techniques to find homogeneous groups of regions on counterfeiting index.

Thepaper firstly deals with the main theories of prices of visual art goods considering, in particular, the "stars", whose high value reflects the rarity and the convexity of the demand by the main purchasers, interested in "famous" goods. The contingent valuation methodology is also discussed. The second section presents an art market matrix focusing on the assets' value. The role of information, regulations and purchasing power for the art market values is discussed, on the basis of statistical analysis of the auction prices of the "informal art" and of the "pop art" of US authors compared with Europeans and Italians. In the third section a diffusion index is presented and used to test the in-fluence of " information" on the art market value. This study analyzes the negative performance of Calabria’s Regional Program 2000-2006, for the enhancement of cultural goods to attract tourism, as an example of the waste of resources of EU ambitious planning for the economic convergence. The empirical analysis shows that the variables relating to cultural sites, education sites and sites with tourism or tourism potentialities had no significance or even negative influence. The significant variables were the number of non profits present in the municipalities and the criminal hubs. The presence of cultural sites is not statistically significant in the allocation of funds to the criminal hubs, After the program the number of visitors and revenues from museum and archeological sites of Calabria lower than before while on average in Italy has had a great increase. On the other hand tourism in Calabria experienced a differential increase , in spite of the waste of the funds of the European regional policy.

O presente estudo investigou o efeito da melatonina em modelos animais de depressão e nocicepção e o seu mecanismo de ação em camundongos. A melatonina nas doses de 0,1-30 mg/kg, i.p. e 0,001-0,1 nmol/sítio, i.c.v. reduziu significativamente o tempo de imobilidade no teste da suspensão da cauda (TSC), sem alterar a atividade locomotora no campo aberto. O efeito antidepressivo da melatonina (1 mg/kg, i.p.) foi completamente prevenido pelo pré-tratamento dos animais com ioimbina (1 mg/kg, i.p., antagoninsta a2-adrenérgico), haloperidol (0,2 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista dopaminérgico não seletivo), sulpirida (50 mg/kg, antagonista D2-dopaminérgico), PCPA (100 mg/kg, i.p., 4 dias consecutivos, inibidor da síntese de serotonina), metisergida (2 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista 5-HT não seletivo), ciproheptadina (3 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista 5-HT2), cetanserina (5 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista 5-HT2A), metoclopramida (1 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista 5-HT3), pindolol (32 mg/kg, i.p., bloqueador b-adrenérgico com atividade antagonista 5-HT1A/5-HT1B), GMP (250 mg/kg, i.p., nucleotídeo que antagoniza várias ações induzidas pela ativação do receptor NMDA), ácido ascórbico (100 mg/kg, i.p., neuromodulador que age como antagonista NMDA), L-arginina (750 mg/kg, i.p., precursor de óxido nítrico), SNAP (25 µg/sítio, i.c.v., doador de óxido nítrico), naloxona (1 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista opióide não seletivo), naltrindol (3 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista de receptores d-opióides), DIPPA (1 mg/kg, i.p. 48 horas antes, antagonista seletivo dos receptores ?-opióides), prazosim (50 µg/sítio, i.c.v., antagonista de receptores MT3 da melatonina) e com luzindol (10 µg/sítio, i.c.v., antagonista de receptores MT2 da melatonina). Por outro lado, o efeito antidepressivo da melatonina no TSC não foi afetado pelo pré-tratamento com prazosim (62,5 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista a1-adrenérgico), D-arginina (750 mg/kg, i.p., isômero inativo da L-arginina) ou após adrenalectomia bilateral. Além disso, doses sub-ativas de apomorfina (0,5 mg/kg, i.p., agonista D2-dopaminérgico), pindolol (32 mg/kg, i.p.), cetanserina (5 mg/kg, i.p.), MK-801 (0,001 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista não competitivo do receptor NMDA), cetamina (0,1 mg/kg, i.p., antagonista não competitivo do receptor NMDA), cloreto de zinco (5 mg/kg, i.p., inibidor do receptor NMDA) e de imipramina (0,1 mg/kg, i.p., inibidor da recaptação de serotonina e noradrenalina) apresentaram efeito sinérgico com uma dose sub-ativa de melatonina (0,01 ou 0,001 mg/kg, i.p.). A administração de dose não-ativa de melatonina (100 mg/kg, i.p.) reverteu significativamente o efeito anti-imobilidade do MK-801 (0,01 mg/kg, i.p.), da cetamina (1 mg/kg, i.p.) e do cloreto de zinco (10 mg/kg, i.p.), mas não o da imipramina (15 mg/kg, i.p.) no TSC.
