Aim/Purpose: This research aims to present a brand-new approach for student performance prediction using the Learning Fuzzy Cognitive Map (LFCM) approach. Background: Predicting student academic performance has long been an important research topic in many academic disciplines. Different mathematical models have been employed to predict student performance. Although the available sets of common prediction approaches, such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and regression, work well with large datasets, they face challenges dealing with small sample sizes, limiting their practical applications in real practices. Methodology: Six distinct categories of performance antecedents are adopted here as course characteristics, LMS characteristics, student characteristics, student engagement, student support, and institutional factors, along with measurement items within each category. Furthermore, we assessed the student's overall performance using three items of student satisfaction score, knowledge construction level, and student GPA. We have collected longitudinal data from 30 postgraduates in four subsequent semesters and analyzed data using the Learning Fuzzy Cognitive Map (LFCM) technique. Contribution: This research proposes a brand new approach, Learning Fuzzy Cognitive Map (LFCM), to predict student performance. Using this approach, we identified the most influential determinants of student performance, such as student engagement. Besides, this research depicts a model of interrelations among the student performance determinants. Findings: The results suggest that the model reasonably predicts the incoming sequence when there is a limited sample size. The results also reveal that students' total online time and the regularity of learning interval in LMS have the largest effect on overall performance. The student engagement category also has the highest direct effect on student's overall performance. Recommendations for Practitioners: Academic institutions can use the results and approach developed in this paper to identify students' performance antecedents, predict the performance, and establish action plans to resolve the shortcomings in the long term. Instructors can adjust their learning methods based on the feedback from students in the short run on the operational level. Recommendation for Researchers: Researchers can use the proposed approach in this research to deal with the problems in other domains, such as using LMS for organizational/institutional education. Besides, they can focus on specific dimensions of the proposed model, such as exploring ways to boost student engagement in the learning process. Impact on Society: Our results revealed that students are at the center of the learning process. The degree to which they are dedicated to learning is the most crucial determinant of the learning outcome. Therefore, learners should consider this finding in order the gain value from the learning process. Future Research: As a potential for future works, the proposed approach could be used in other contexts to test its applicability. Future studies could also improve the performance level of the proposed LFMC model by tuning the model's elements.

Simple Summary: While melanoma accounts for 4% of skin cancer cases, it causes 75% of skin-cancer-related deaths. The survival rate for melanoma is higher for early-identified cases, so improved access to diagnosis and screening programs is essential for addressing skin cancer deaths. Computer-aided diagnosis utilizing machine learning can be used to differentiate malignant and benign skin lesions. There is significant research into the use of convolutional neural networks to classify skin lesions from dermoscopic images. However, to provide cost-effective and accessible options for early detection of malignant melanoma, smartphone applications capable of accurately classifying skin lesions from images taken on a smartphone would be beneficial. This research investigates a previously underexplored dataset of smartphone images and develops a novel multi-layer deep convolutional neural network model, named SkinLesNet, to classify three types of skin lesions, including melanoma. Further studies to validate the model should be conducted as other image datasets become available. Skin cancer is a widespread disease that typically develops on the skin due to frequent exposure to sunlight. Although cancer can appear on any part of the human body, skin cancer accounts for a significant proportion of all new cancer diagnoses worldwide. There are substantial obstacles to the precise diagnosis and classification of skin lesions because of morphological variety and indistinguishable characteristics across skin malignancies. Recently, deep learning models have been used in the field of image-based skin-lesion diagnosis and have demonstrated diagnostic efficiency on par with that of dermatologists. To increase classification efficiency and accuracy for skin lesions, a cutting-edge multi-layer deep convolutional neural network termed SkinLesNet was built in this study. The dataset used in this study was extracted from the PAD-UFES-20 dataset and was augmented. The PAD-UFES-20-Modified dataset includes three common forms of skin lesions: seborrheic keratosis, nevus, and melanoma. To comprehensively assess SkinLesNet's performance, its evaluation was expanded beyond the PAD-UFES-20-Modified dataset. Two additional datasets, HAM10000 and ISIC2017, were included, and SkinLesNet was compared to the widely used ResNet50 and VGG16 models. In the Internet of Things (IoT), data gathered from dozens of devices are the base for creating business value and developing new products and services. If data are of poor quality, decisions are likely to be non-sense. Data quality is crucial to gain business value of the IoT initiatives. This paper presents a systematic literature review regarding IoT data quality from 2000 to 2020. We analyzed 58 articles to identify IoT data quality dimensions and issues and their categorizations. According to this analysis, we offer a classification of IoT data characterizations using the focus group method and clarify the link between dimensions and issues in each category. Manifesting a link between dimensions and issues in each category is incumbent, while this critical affair in extant categorizations is ignored. We also examine data security as an important data quality issue and suggest potential solutions to overcome IoT's security issues. The Markowitz-based portfolio selection turns to an NP-hard problem when considering cardinality constraints. In this case, existing exact solutions like quadratic programming may not be efficient to solve the problem. Many researchers, therefore, used heuristic and metaheuristic approaches in order to deal with the problem. This work presents Asexual Reproduction Optimization (ARO), a modelfree metaheuristic algorithm inspired by the asexual reproduction, in order to solve the portfolio optimization problem including cardinality constraint to ensure the investment in a given number of different assets and bounding constraint to limit the proportions of fund invested in each asset. This is the first time that this relatively new metaheuristic is applied in the field of portfolio optimization, and we show that ARO results in better quality solutions in comparison with some of the well-known metaheuristics stated in the literature. To validate our proposed algorithm, we measured the deviation of the obtained results from the standard efficient frontier. We report our computational results on a set of publicly available benchmark test problems relating to five main market indices containing 31, 85, 89, 98, and 225 assets. These results are used in order to test the efficiency of our proposed method in comparison to other existing metaheuristic solutions. The experimental results indicate that ARO outperforms Genetic Algorithm (GA), Tabu Search (TS), Simulated Annealing (SA), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in most of test problems. In terms of the obtained error, by using ARO, the average error of the aforementioned test problems is reduced by approximately 20 percent of the minimum average error calculated for the above-mentioned algorithms. Implementation of enterprise resource planning systems (ERPs) is a complex and costly task which usually results in serious failures. Numerous factors affect these projects implementation due to their size, complexity and high chance of failure. Therefore, identifying these factors in ERP projects is a critical issue. The majority of previous publications have been conducted in identifying ERP critical success factors (CSFs) rather than critical failure factors (CFFs). In order to help practitioners, this article studies the CFFs in ERP implementation projects. The implications of interdependency among failure factors are also usually overlooked by project managers due to perceived complexity in modelling and analysing influential factors. With this in mind, we have proposed a fuzzy cognitive map (FCM)-based dynamic model of ERP failure factors through project lifecycle phases. The main advantage of FCM lies in them being capable of modelling complex phenomena based on the experts’ perceptions. This tool models uncertainty and related events, imitating human reasoning. Moreover, FCMs enable the developing of forecasting exercises through simulations. Practitioners would thus assess the joint influence of ERP implementation failure factors on project outcomes. The results make known to practitioners which problems will arise if the failure factors are not treated, and how these will impact on the outcomes of projects. Building a new road infrastructure in the country leads to economic and industrial growth. A massive amount of money is paid by governments to build them; however, they fail due to many reasons related to operability and maintainability (O&M) issues. They are not also completed within the expected budget, time, and quality; so they are not justifiable. As these factors have a strong impact on projects, to reduce the final cost and other mentioned problems, it is necessary to identify the existing O&M barriers, their interrelationships, and their effects on the three mentioned factors. An in-depth literature review is conducted to identify the barriers. The fuzzy cognitive mapping (FCM) technique is used to model O&M barriers using real case data analyses. The findings reveal that managerial factors have more significanct impacts on the project's success compared to other factors such as organizational, human resource, technology, and project management. Therefore, management methods are very important in developing integration in the project. Identifying, classifying, and determining the effects of barriers to entry of O&M contractors on the cost, time, and quality of road infrastructure projects show the signifcance of conducting this research, which is necessary to deal with the existing barriers.
