The exact pathogenesis of tissue pigmentation varies greatly and is not completely known. This systematic review aimed to present data on the causal association between medications and the development of oral/mucosal pigmentation as an adverse drug reaction.Methods: A systematic review and analysis of literature were conducted using the following databases: PubMed, Science Direct, ProQuest, Web of Science, and Scopus. The systematic review included original articles written in English and published between January 1982 and June 2020. Following the PRISMA statement, eligible articles were systematically reviewed, and data were extracted from eligible studies and analyzed.Results: A total of 235 articles were identified, of which 57 met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. The mean age of included patients was 46.2± 16.38 years (range: 10– 90 years) with a male to female ratio of 1:1.45. Oral mucosal hyperpigmentation was reported following the use of several classes of medications such as antiviral (eg, zidovudine), antibiotic (eg, minocycline), antimalarial (eg, chloroquine), anti-fungal (eg, ketoconazole), antileprotic (eg, clofazimine), antihypertensive (eg, amlodipine), chemotherapeutic, and antineoplastic drugs. The risk of developing oral pigmentation was significantly higher with antimalarial medications, antibiotics, antineoplastic and chemotherapeutic agents. Medication-induced oral hyperpigmentation was most frequent among women and in the hard palate.Conclusion: Future research is warranted to better understand the pathogenesis and risk factors for medication-induced oral hyperpigmentation in order to reassure patients during prescription and management.Keywords: medication-induced, oral hyperpigmentation, drugs, adverse reaction, systematic review

Introduction. To identify the impact of portal vein thrombosis (PVT) and associated medical and surgical factors on outcomes post liver transplant (LT).Material and methods. Two analyses were performed. Analysis One: cohort study of 505 consecutive patients who underwent LT (Alberta) between 01/2002-12/2012. PVT was identified in 61 (14%) patients. Analysis Two: cohort study of 144 consecutive PVT patients from two sites (Alberta and London) during the same period. Cox multivariable survival analysis was used to identify independent associations with post-LT mortality.Results. In Analysis One (Alberta), PVT was not associated with post-LT mortality (log rank p = 0.99). On adjusted analysis, complete/occlusive PVT was associated with increased mortality (Hazard Ratio (HR) 8.4, p < 0.001). In Analysis Two (Alberta and London), complete/occlusive PVT was associated with increased mortality only on unadjusted analysis (HR 3.7, p = 0.02). On adjusted analysis, Hepatitis C (HR 2.1, p = 0.03) and post-LT portal vein re-occlusion (HR 3.2, p = 0.01) were independently associated with increased mortality.Conclusion: Well-selected LT patients who had PVT prior to LT had similar post-LT outcomes to non-PVT LT recipients. Subgroups of PVT patients who did worse post-LT (complete/occlusive thrombosis pre-LT, Hepatitis C or post-LT portal vein re-occlusion) warrant closer evaluation in listing and management post-LT.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa plays a major influence on poultry outbreaks. Several factors may contribute to its pathogenicity. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of P. aeruginosa infection among layer chickens with phenotypic and genotypic characterization of the isolates. Methods: Samples (n=160) were collected from respiratory distressed layer chickens according to the lesion and bacteriologically examined for isolation of P. aeruginosa from Sharkia province, Egypt. The antimicrobial sensitivity was performed against 18 antimicrobial agents. A qualitative assessment of biofilm production was performed using the Tube method. The isolates were genetically examined for confirmation, detection of quorum sensing genes, virulence genes, and biofilm production genes by conventional PCR. Results: P. aeruginosa was isolated from 25% of the samples. Moreover, 95% of the isolates were extensively drug-resistant (XDR) with multiple antibiotic resistance indices (MARI) of 0.67 to 0.83. A total of 38 isolates were able to produce biofilm with different degrees. PCR of 16S rRNA (P. aeruginosa) and oprL genes confirmed the existence of P. aeruginosa isolates. For quorum sensing genes, lasI and lasR were successfully amplified at 100% and 89.5%, respectively. For virulence genes, toxA and exoU were amplified by a percentage of 78.9%, while the higBA gene was in 100% of the isolates. pprA and pprB genes were amplified at 100% and 89.5%, respectively. For biofilm genes, pslA, fliC, and pelA were amplified in 100%, 84.2%, and 10.5%, respectively. Conclusion: A strong correlation between quorum sensing genes, biofilm genes, and virulence genes was detected. Abstract Background Family presence during resuscitation is a controversial issue worldwide. The aim of this study was to investigate the self-confidence and attitudes of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) towards family presence during resuscitation (FPDR). Methods In this cross-sectional study, a random sample of 252 EMTs were selected from 110 prehospital emergency centers. Two main questionnaires were used to collect data on the EMTs’ self-confidence and attitudes towards FPDR. Results The results showed that the EMTs’ attitudes towards FPDR were lower than the mean (43.69 ± 19.40). In addition, more than 85% of them stated that the resuscitation process was stressful for the patient’s companions. Abstract The study was conducted to find out the effects of tuition fee on quality of education for students in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan to fulfill their future goals. The study used a multinomial logistic regression method for knowing the factors that either make it difficult or easy to pay academic fees. The primary data was gathered using an online survey made with a Google form and sent by email and WhatsApp to students in different departments. A certain amount of time was dedicated to the data collection process. Due to a research deficit on tuition fees for university students in Pakistan, this study was deemed necessary. It entails an examination of the elements that impact graduate quality, taking into account academic achievement, educational expectations, and tuition price donors. The study employed a multinomial logistic regression approach to identify the variables that either facilitate or impede the payment of academic fees. One thousand pupils responded in the positive. The results showed that expensive college tuition causes students to perform poorly academically, lack confidence, have poorly groomed personalities, and have fewer career options. On the other hand, students from well-off households and those who worked part-time performed better. Furthermore, the learning behavior and attitude of students who received scholarships and worked as teaching assistants improved because they were more punctual and attentive in class. By bringing attention to the need for lawmakers and government agencies to take significant steps toward improving student outcomes in higher education—like subsidizing tuition costs, supplying educational resources, and giving out scholarships and studentships—this study helps students. It also fills a research gap in the field of tuition fees in Pakistan by offering new researchers a case study example of how to use multinomial logistic regression to investigate the relationship between students’ academic objectives and the expense of their education.

Abstract MLH1 (Mult homolog1) gene is the main element of Multlα heterodimer and plays a role in the repair of base-base mismatches and deletion and addition loops. When the MLH1 protein is not present, the number of errors that remain unrepaired increases, and this can lead to the formation of tumors in the body. Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in terms of incidence and the third type of cancer in terms of mortality worldwide. In this regard, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of biological silver nanoparticles with anticancer properties and MLH1 gene expression on cancer cell samples of people with colorectal cancer. In this study, the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles was carried out by precipitation method with reduction of silver ions by leaf and flower extract of Moringa oleifera plant. Then, silver nanoparticles were confirmed using UV-visible spectroscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The cytotoxic effects of nanoparticles on cells were evaluated by MTT colorimetric method within 42 h. After RNA extraction of treated cells, cDNA synthesis and primers were designed by the Exon-Exon Junction method and the Real-time Polymerase test for MLH1 and Beta-actin genes was repeated three times. The final analysis of the results was done using Graphpad Prism and Rest 2009 software. The presence of a peak at the wavelength of 234 nm for the synthesized silver nanoparticles was confirmed by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopic analysis. The morphological study on the size and shape of the silver nanoparticles showed that the nanoparticles are spherical and have a size between 40 and 34 nanometers in diameter. The leaf extract typically produces smaller, more uniform particles than the flower extract. The Green-Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles of leaf extract were used to evaluation of induced Apoptotic Cell Death in CACO2 Cancer Cells by Activating MLH1 Gene Expression. MTT results showed that the anti-proliferative effect of nanoparticles depends on the concentration of synthesized silver nanoparticles. The treatment of MLH1 cancer cell line and normal with synthesized nanoparticles at a concentration of 0.44 micrograms per ml for 42 h showed the effects of cell toxicity. Abstract Future climates will realise increasingly frequent extreme weather events, which will impact on the quantum and quality of crop production. While effects of extreme heat on crop production have been well studied hitherto, there remains a dearth of knowledge pertaining to the impacts of extreme heat on grain quality. As such, our purpose here was to evaluate the effects of terminal heat stress on the physicochemical properties and composition of seed oil of safflower plants. Using two contemporary cultivars with varying genetic tolerance to heat stress (Faraman and Sofeh), we found that exposure to extreme heat reduced grain yield by 53–57%. Four fatty acids (palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acid) comprised 96–99% of total fatty acid methyl esters; relative composition varied in response to heat stress and other environmental conditions. In the first experimental year (2017-18), saturated fatty acids in Sofeh and Faraman cultivars increased by 69% and 18% respectively, while unsaturated fatty acids decreased by 9% and 4%, respectively. In the second experimental year (2018-19), saturated fatty acids increased by 10% in Sofeh and by less than 1% in Farman, while unsaturated fatty acids in both cultivars were not significantly altered. Physicochemical parameters differed across years and cultivars; exposure to high temperature increased chlorophyll and carotenoid content in Sofeh, but decreased the said parameters in Faraman. In 2017-18, effects of heat stress on thiobarbituric acid were variable, but in 2018-19, thiobarbituric acid increased in both cultivars. In all cases, saponification and iodine content increased in response to heat stress. In sum, the fatty acid profile of safflower exposed to terminal heat stress was less affected compared with oil physicochemical parameters, due to greater temperature sensitivity of the latter.

Abstract Green nanotechnology offers several possibilities to bridge the nano and sustainability domains and help us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address major global concerns. In this review, we detail the fundamentals and applications of GNT toward SDGs goals. This includes energy production, pollution abatement, water treatment, and eco-friendly agricultural practices. The discussion includes challenges related to legal, ethical and safety aspects as well as limits of the technology. Prospects call for collaborative efforts across various disciplines and policy guidelines in bridging eco-friendly nanotechnology with UN SDGs. We hope that the insights provided in this review can help guide future research and policies toward more environmentally responsible practices, improving global environmental stewardship with a special emphasis on nanotechnology. Abstract White tea is valuable for having a high antioxidant content, which is considered to possess numerous beneficial effects on health. This study investigated the application of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) for the extraction of total phenolic compounds from white tea. The experimental setup included four independent variables: microwave power (ranging from 100 to 300 W), extraction time (ranging from 10 to 40 min), temperature (ranging from 35 to 50 °C), and the ratio of food to solvent (ranging from 0.25 to 0.5 g/10 mL). The responses that were evaluated were IC50 (ppm) and total phenolic content (mg/g). The experimental design consisted of thirty runs conducted within the MAE system. The group method of data handling (GMDH) models were used to predict important efficiency measures (IC50 and total phenol content) in the extraction process. The models were assessed based on their ability to capture the relationships between input conditions and efficiency outputs. Three GMDH variants were compared: baseline GMDH, GMDH optimized with a genetic algorithm (GMDH-GA), and GMDH optimized with a harmony search algorithm (GMDH-HS). While all models achieved high predictive ability on a test set, GMDH-HS emerged as the superior performer. It achieved near-perfect agreement with observations (d-index > 0.998), minimal errors (NRMSE 0.99) for both outputs. Correlation diagrams and Taylor diagrams confirmed the superior performance of GMDH-HS in terms of linearity, correlation, and error minimization. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of hybridizing GMDH with a harmony search algorithm for complex modeling tasks, paving the way for improved efficiency and yield optimization in extraction processes.

Abstract Sweet corn (Zea mays L.) var. Saccharata is a tropical and semitropical annual cereal with low germination, poor vigor, and weak seedling establishment in the soil. In order to enhance the physical properties of sweet corn and examine the effects of seed coating on the morphological, biochemical, and physiological characteristics of sweet corn seedlings under drought stress conditions, we conducted a factorial experiment in greenhouse conditions. Seed coating was carried out using a mixture of vermiculite (V), kaolin (K), and perlite (P) in a ratio of 3:1.5:2. The main factors of the greenhouse experiment comprised three levels of coating treatment (chitosan 0.5% + V10K2.5P5 (gr), NaAlg 1% + V10K2.5P5 (gr), and non-coated seeds as a control) along with drought stress at four levels (0, -0.3, -0.6, and -0.9 bar). In greenhouse conditions, the growth indexes of sweet corn seedlings were studied under increasing levels of drought stress. The results showed that as drought stress levels increased, certain growth indicators such as seedling emergence and seedling emergence rate, soluble protein, chlorophyll total content, nitrogen, and phosphorus content decreased. On the other hand, mean emergence, proline, potassium, soluble sugars, malondialdehyde, and hydrogen peroxide were increased. The study found that the highest seedling emergence percentage occurred in the coating treatment of chitosan 0.5% + V10K2.5P5 (gr) at all levels of drought stress. Overall, seed coating with the Chitosan 0.5% + V10K2.5P5 (gr) treatment improved the performance of sweet corn seeds and reduced the negative effects of drought stress by increasing seedling emergence and establishment.

Abstract Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is well-known for its high protein, steroid, alkaloid, mineral, lipid, triterpene, and phenolic compound content, as well as its medicinal properties, particularly its anti-diabetic effects. To investigate the impact of elicitors on the morphology and phytochemical characteristics of bitter melon (Jounpouri cultivar) over two consecutive years (2018 and 2019), we conducted a field experiment. The study aimed to determine the effects of Ethrel, brassinosteroids (BRs), and k-carrageenan on yield and the production of anti-diabetic agents in M. charantia farm crops. The elicitors included ten levels, ranging from a control group to Ethrel (100, 300, and 600 mg l− 1), brassinosteroids (BRs) (0.1, 0.5, and 1 mg l− 1), and k-carrageenan (200, 400, and 600 mg l− 1). These characteristics included leaf area, leaf length, leaf width, fruit parameters, carbohydrate content, total phenols and flavonoid accumulation, antioxidant activity, total acid, ascorbic acid, momordicine, and charantin. Across both years, we observed the highest flavonoid accumulation and antioxidant activity in the Ethrel treatment group. Specifically, applying 0.5 mg l− 1 BRs and 300 mg l− 1 Ethrel led to an 18.8% and 14.8% increase in momordicine content, respectively. All elicitor treatments, particularly at 0.1 mg l− 1 BRs, significantly increased leaf area, leaf length, and leaf width compared to the control group in both cropping years. Additionally, the application of all elicitors resulted in increased fruit weight, dimensions, and yield over the two consecutive years. Notably, in 2018, 600 mg l− 1 Ethrel contributed to enhanced fruit weight and yield, while in 2019, 0.5 mg l− 1 BRs exhibited the same effect. Metabolic and physiological changes in bitter squash induced by employed elicitors over two different years (2018–2019) are strongly dependent on a variety of environmental factors such as temperature and rainfall. In conclusion, using BRs as an elicitor has the potential to optimize the health benefits of bitter melon by increasing the content of two bioactive molecules, momordicine and charantin.

Abstract In tissue culture, efficient nutrient availability and effective control of callus contamination are crucial for successful plantlet regeneration. This study was aimed to enhance callogenesis, callus regeneration, control callus contamination, and substitute iron (Fe) source with FeO-NPs in Murashige and Skoog (MS) media. Nanogreen iron oxide (FeO-NPs) were synthesized and well characterized with sizes ranging from 2 to 7.5 nm. FeO-NPs as a supplement in MS media at 15 ppm, significantly controlled callus contamination by (80%). Results indicated that FeCl3-based FeO-NPs induced fast callus induction (72%) and regeneration (43%), in contrast FeSO4-based FeO-NPs resulted in increased callus weight (516%), diameter (300%), number of shoots (200%), and roots (114%). Modified media with FeO-NPs as the Fe source induced fast callogenesis and regeneration compared to normal MS media. FeO-NPs, when applied foliar spray, increased Plant fresh biomass by 133% and spike weight by 350%. Plant height increased by 54% and 33%, the number of spikes by 50% and 265%, and Chlorophyll content by 51% and 34% in IRRI-6 and Kissan Basmati, respectively. Additionally, APX (Ascorbate peroxidase), SOD (Superoxide dismutase), POD (peroxidase), and CAT (catalase) increased in IRRI-6 by 27%, 29%, 283%, 62%, while in Kissan Basmati, APX increased by 70%, SOD decreased by 28%, and POD and CAT increased by 89% and 98%, respectively. Finally, FeO-NPs effectively substituted Fe source in MS media, shorten the plant life cycle, and increase chlorophyll content as well as APX, SOD, POD, and CAT activities. This protocol is applicable for tissue culture in other cereal crops as well.

Abstract The economic part of the Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (Malvaceae) plant is the sepal. One of the main challenges in harvesting this product is separating its seeds, which are surrounded by sepals. If the parthenocarpy process occurs without seeds, the labor costs are reduced and the profits from the production of this plant are increased. In current study, the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3), melatonin (M), and indole acetic acid (IAA) on the induction of parthenocarpy in H. sabdariffa plants was investigated. The study was conducted as a factorial experiment in the form of randomized complete block design with three replications. Different concentrations of GA3 (0 (control), 700, 800, and 900 ppm), M (0 (control), 100, 200, and 400 ppm), and IAA (0 (control), 1000, 1200, and 1400 ppm) were foliar sprayed after the emergence of the flower bud on the 50th, 60th, and 70th days of planting, and the control plants were also sprayed with distilled water. Various measurements were taken including the number of seeds per boll, parthenocarpy percentage, capsule volume, number of bolls per plant, number of mature seeds, and phytochemical parameters such as anthocyanin, chlorophyll and carotenoid content, antioxidant value, total phenol and flavonoid content, and soluble solids. The application of GA3 at 800 and 900 ppm along with IAA at 1000 ppm and M at 100 and 200 ppm led to the production of parthenocarpy fruits and showed the best results in the induction of parthenocarpy. The control group indicated the highest number of mature seeds per boll. The highest amount of phenol and flavonoid contents were obtained in plants treated with GA3 at 800 ppm. For anthocyanin, the control group showed the highest value (1.63 mg g−1), and in the case of the antioxidant trait, plants exposed to 100 ppm M showed the highest IC50 (40.68%). Hence, the application of plant growth regulators with appropriate concentrations can be effective in inducing parthenocarpy in H. sabdariffa plants. Additionally, parthenocarpy-induced by GA3, IAA, and M had different impacts on fruit quality and quantity, suggesting that the effect depends on the type of employed hormones used and their concentrations.

Abstract Background Today, the human population faces an increasing array of emerging environmental challenges. Despite its importance, nurses often neglect ecological issues, which can compromise patient health. While the ecological nursing perspective has the potential to lead to innovative care approaches that benefit patients, the nursing profession, and the environment, the concept of ecological care lacks a clear definition and its dimensions remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze and clarify the concept of ‘ecological care’ in the nursing discipline. Methods Walker and Avant’s analysis method was used to identify descriptions, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents of the concept of ‘ecological care’ in nursing. We searched the databases (PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, CINAHL, ERIC, SID, and IranDoc) using the keywords “ecological,” “nurse,” and “nursing” using Boolean operators “AND” and “OR” in the title and abstract fields both in English and Persian to identify relevant literature on ecological care in nursing. Results Ecological care, as a multidimensional concept, encompasses ecological thinking, ecological attitude, ecological awareness, ecological sensitivity, and ecological literacy. This entails the optimal utilization of environmental factors to provide patients with high-quality care and preserve ecological sustainability through environmentally friendly behaviors. Conclusions The findings highlight the need to elucidate, endorse, and solidify ecological thinking in all aspects of nursing care including nursing management, education, and research, which can lead to improved care quality, patient safety, and sustainability. Within this framework, nursing educators could play an essential role in integrating ecological care into nursing education. The study emphasizes the need to integrate ecological thinking into all aspects of nursing.

Abstract To address salinity stress in plants in an eco-friendly manner, this study investigated the potential effects of salinity-resistant bacteria isolated from saline agricultural soils on the growth of cucumber (Cucumis sativus, cv. Royal) seedlings. A greenhouse factorial experiment was conducted based on a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors, salinity at four levels and five bacterial treatments, with three replications (n = 3). Initially, fifty bacterial isolates were screened for their salinity and drought tolerance, phosphate solubilization activity, along with production of auxin, siderophore and hydrogen cyanide. Isolates K4, K14, K15, and C8 exhibited the highest resistance to salinity and drought stresses in vitro. Isolates C8 and K15 demonstrated the highest auxin production capacity, generating 2.95 and 2.87 µg mL− 1, respectively, and also exhibited significant siderophore production capacities (by 14% and 11%). Additionally, isolates C8 and K14 displayed greater phosphate solubilization activities, by 184.64 and 122.11 µg mL− 1, respectively. The statistical analysis revealed that the selected four potent isolates significantly enhanced all growth parameters of cucumber plants grown under salinity stress conditions for six weeks. Plant height increased by 41%, fresh and dry weights by 35% and 7%, respectively, and the leaf area index by 85%. The most effective isolate, C8, was identified as Bacillus subtilis based on the 16 S rDNA amplicon sequencing. This study demonstrated that inoculating cucumber seedlings with halotolerant bacterial isolates, such as C8 (Bacillus subtilis), possessing substantial plant growth-promoting properties significantly alleviated salinity stress by enhancing plant growth parameters. These findings suggest a promising eco-friendly strategy for improving crop productivity in saline agricultural environments.

Abstract Satureja rechingeri Jamzad (known as “Jatra” in Persian), which belongs to the Lamiaceae family, is a rich source of essential oil particularly carvacrol, and rosmarinic acid. Drought stress has a detrimental impact on the physiological and biochemical parameters of plants, leading to a decline in plant productivity. Melatonin (MT), a new plant growth regulator found abundantly in plants, has been found to enhance the plant's internal resistance to various environmental stresses. The present study aimed to examine the impact of exogenously applied MT on the agro-morphological, physio-biochemical, and phytochemical traits of S. rechingeri plants cultivated under different levels of drought stress. The results indicated that plants treated with 200 µM MT obtained the highest plant height, length and width of leaf, fresh, dry and drug weight under different drought stress levels. The highest values of relative water content (RWC) (93.5%) and chlorophyll content (15.4 mg/g FW) were recorded by MT 200 µM and 100 µM, respectively, in 100% FC. Drought stress treatments (40, 60, and 80% FC) without foliar spray of MT significantly enhanced the H2O2 content, electrolyte leakage, and malondialdehyde content in leaves, whereas MT treatment under drought stress significantly decreased the above parameters. The lowest H2O2 content (11.5 nmol/g), electrolyte leakage (3.08%), and malondialdehyde content (0.78 µM/g) were obtained by 200 µM MT at 100% FC. In contrast, drought stress treatment increased the total phenol content (TPC), rosmarinic acid (RA), essential oils (EOs) content and yield, and carvacrol. The maximum values of TPC (28.1 mg GAE/g DW), EOs content (3.63%) and yield (0.96%), and carvacrol (95.66%) were achieved by 200 µM MT at 40% FC. The highest RA content (7.43 mg GAE/g DW) was recorded in 100 µM MT at 40% FC. Thus, foliar spray MT has the potential to enhance plant growth through the mitigation of reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced oxidative harm, as well as the augmentation of photosynthesis pigments, secondary metabolites such as phenolics, EOs levels, overall antioxidant scavenging capacity, and the preservation of RWC during periods of drought stress. Abstract The bacterial blight of wheat is an important global disease causing a significant decline in crop yield. Nanotechnology offers a potential solution for managing plant diseases. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in controlling bacterial blight in 27 locally grown wheat cultivars. The study examined the impact of AgNPs at three distinct time points: 1, 3, and 5 days after the onset of the disease. Biochemical assay revealed that one day after applying the disease stress, the Inia cultivar had the highest amount of soluble protein (55.60 μg.g−1FW) content in the treatment without AgNPs. The Azadi cultivar, without AgNPs treatment, had the lowest amount of soluble protein content (15.71 μg.g−1FW). The Tabasi cultivar had the highest activity of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) (61.62 mM.g−1FW) with the combination treatment of AgNPs. On the other hand, the Karchia cultivar had the lowest SOD activity (0.6 mM.g−1FW) in the treatment of disease without AgNPs. Furthermore, three days after the application of stress, the Mahdavi cultivar had the highest amount of soluble protein content (54.16 μg.g−1FW) in the treatment of disease without AgNPs. The Niknejad cultivar had the highest activity of the SOD (74.15 mM.g−1FW) with the combined treatment of the disease without AgNPs. The Kavir cultivar had the lowest SOD activity (1.95 mM.g−1FW) and the lowest peroxidase (POX) activity (0.241 mM g−1FW min−1) in the treatment of the disease with AgNPs. Five days after exposure to stress, the Mahooti cultivar had the highest SOD activity (88.12 mM.g−1FW) with the combined treatment of the disease with AgNPs, and the Karchia cultivar had the lowest SOD activity (2.39 mM.g−1FW) in the treatment of the disease with AgNPs. Further, the results indicated that exposure to AgNPs could improve the antioxidant properties of wheat seeds in blight-infected and disease-free conditions in some cultivars.

Abstract The most effective strategy for managing wheat bacterial blight caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae is believed to be the use of resistant cultivars. Researching the correlation between molecular markers and stress resistance can expedite the plant breeding process. The current study aims to evaluate the response of 27 bread wheat cultivars to bacterial blight disease in order to identify resistant and susceptible cultivars and to pinpoint ISSR molecular markers associated with bacterial blight resistance genes. ISSR markers are recommended for assessing a plant's disease resistance. This experiment is focused on identifying ISSR molecular markers linked to bacterial blight resistance. After applying the bacterial solution to the leaves, we performed sampling to determine the infection percentage in the leaves at different intervals (7, 14, and 18 days after spraying). In most cultivars, the average leaf infection percentage decreased 18 days after spraying on young leaves. However, in some cultivars such as Niknegad, Darab2, and Zarin, leaf infection increased in older leaves and reached up to 100% necrosis. In our study, 12 ISSR primers generated a total of 170 bands, with 156 being polymorphic. The primers F10 and F5 showed the highest polymorphism, while the F7 primer exhibited the lowest polymorphism. Cluster analysis grouped these cultivars into four categories. The resistant group included Qods, Omid, and Atrak cultivars, while the semi-resistant and susceptible groups comprised the rest of the cultivars. Through binary logistic analysis, we identified three Super oxide dismutase-related genes that contribute to plant resistance to bacterial blight. These genes were linked to the F3, F5, and F12 primers in regions I (1500 bp), T (1000 bp), and G (850 bp), respectively. We also identified seven susceptibility-associated genes. Atrak, Omid, and Qods cultivars exhibited resistance against bacterial blight, and three genes associated with this resistance were linked to the F3, F5, and F12 primers. These markers can be used for screening or transferring tolerance to other wheat cultivars in breeding programs.

Knowledge of the nonlinear behavior of new materials, the factors affecting them, and models for the inelastic analysis of structures are important. A factor determining the tensile behavior of reinforced concrete is the rebar-concrete bond. Moreover, the corrosion of rebars embedded in concrete highly affects bond behavior. This research proposes a model for the bond-slip relationship of corroded rebars in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) via an experimental scheme. Accordingly, 80 cubic reinforced concrete specimens with different rebar types, diameters, and bond lengths were prepared based on RILEM RC6 and subjected to pull-out tests after the accelerated corrosion of some of the rebars to various degrees. The results were reported as bond-slip curves and failure modes, and suitable models were proposed for the pull-out mode bond-slip curve with corrosion taken into account. The proposed models were in good agreement with empirical results and previous research.

This study focuses on the empirical examination of the nonlinear seismic performance of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP)-strengthened composite coupled reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls. The experimental setup involves testing the structure in two distinct states, wherein CFRP sheets are utilized for retrofitting and reinforcement. In the initial phase, three samples undergo reinforcement utilizing distinct patterns of CFRP sheets. In the subsequent stage, an additional trio of specimens is fabricated and tested without the application of CFRP sheets. Subsequently, all structures are exposed to a load equivalent to 60 % of their flexural capacity. Following this, the tested specimens undergo retrofitting with CFRP sheets, utilizing the same patterns as in the initial phase. The retrofitted composite coupled shear walls are then subjected to retesting. The principal aim of CFRP retrofitting is to amplify the flexural and shear capacities of the specimens, empowering them to endure heightened seismic loads in comparison to their original configurations. This research contributes by evaluating ductility, ultimate strength, energy dissipation, and construction costs associated with composite coupled steel plate-concrete shear walls. All specimens underwent cyclic loading in accordance with the ATC-24 guidelines [1], which provide standard protocols for testing the cyclic performance of structural components. These guidelines, outline procedures for simulating seismic loading conditions in laboratory settings to evaluate the performance of structural systems under cyclic loading. Finally, a parametric study explores the impact of CFRP sheets and their adhesion patterns on the seismic behavior of composite coupled shear walls. The selection of the optimal retrofitting scheme considers the construction cost of each specimen based on the total area of CFRP sheets utilized.

Abstract Background Self-efficacy of patients on hemodialysis is considered a main component of the successful management of chronic kidney diseases. The self-efficacy of these patients may be influenced by many individual and social factors. This study aimed to assess the association between perceived self-efficacy and social support by patients on hemodialysis treatment and the resilience of their families. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 183 patients and 183 families of hemodialysis patients in the largest hemodialysis center in northwest of Iran. Data was collected from July to December 2021 using chronic kidney disease self-efficacy, multidimensional perceived social support (MSPSS), and the Walsh family resilience questionnaire (WFRQ). The collected data were analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive and inferential statistical tests. Results The findings showed that the mean score of patients’ self-efficacy was 171.63 ± 38.19 in a possible range of 25 to 250. Moreover, the mean score of perceived social support was 62.12 ± 16.12 in a possible range of 7 to 84. The mean total score of family resilience was 119.08 ± 26.20 in a possible range of 32 to 84. Abstract The aim of current study was to prepared zinc oxide nanofertilzers by ecofriendly friendly, economically feasible, free of chemical contamination and safe for biological use. The study focused on crude extract of Withania coagulans as reducing agent for the green synthesis of ZnO nano-particles. Biosynthesized ZnO NPs were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR and GC–MS analysis. However, zinc oxide as green Nano fertilizer was used to analyze responses induced by different doses of ZnO NPs [0, 25, 50,100, 200 mg/l and Zn acetate (100 mg/l)] in Triticum aestivum (wheat). The stimulatory and inhibitory effects of foliar application of ZnO NPs were studied on wheat (Triticum aestivum) with aspect of biomass accumulation, morphological attributes, biochemical parameters and anatomical modifications. Wheat plant showed significant (p < 0.01) enhancement of growth parameters upon exposure to ZnO NPs at specific concentrations. In addition, wheat plant showed significant increase in biochemical attributes, chlorophyll content, carotenoids, carbohydrate and protein contents. Antioxidant enzyme (POD, SOD, CAT) and total flavonoid content also confirmed nurturing impact on wheat plant. Increased stem, leaf and root anatomical parameters, all showed ZnO NPs mitigating capacity when applied to wheat. According to the current research, ZnO NPs application on wheat might be used to increase growth, yield, and Zn biofortification in wheat plants.

Purpose: Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is one of the most important horticultural products that are grown in different parts of Iran and has high nutritional values. In this study, the genetic diversity of cultivars and genotypes of some vineyards of Markazi province were investigated for the preliminary selection of superior cultivars and genotypes in terms of morphological and fruit characteristics for use in grape breeding programs. Research method: For this purpose, grouping and comparing 84 grape cultivars and genotypes were carried out using 70 traits including phenological and vegetative traits, trichome and stomata, bunch and berry traits. Findings: Based on the results, the “Sahebi Hazaveh” cultivar with 1000.17 g had highest an average bunch weight to compare other cultivars and genotypes. Results showed that, some traits such as bunch weight, bunch shoulders, fresh weight, rachis weight, the ratio of bunch weight to peduncle weight, the ratio of rachis weight to bunch weight, dry weight of bunch shoulders, length of the tail of bunch, berry weight, pedicel weight, seed weight and length of seed had a high coefficient of variation. Factor analysis reduced the evaluated traits to 10 main factors showed that they justified 78.38% of the total variance. Cluster analysis divided cultivars and genotypes into 4 main groups at five Euclidean distances. Limitations: No limitations were encountered. Originality/Value: This study indicated that grapes germplasm resources in zone are of noticeable diversities and can be promising for the utilization in the breeding programs. Based on the results, cultivars and genotypes of “Khalili Khondab” region, “Yaghouti”, “Sahebi”, “Fakhri”, “Kharvand” and “Kondori” Hazaveh region and “Sahebi” Aghbolagh region in leafing time, late flowering, sugar percentage, bunch and berry characteristics, stomatal density, standing and lying trichome density in leaves were superior to other cultivars and genotypes.

Abstract Precipitation due to its complex nature requires a comprehensive model for forecasting purposes and the efficiency of improved ARIMA (IARIMA) forecasts has been proved relative to the conventional models. This study used two procedures in the structure of IARIMA to obtain accurate monthly precipitation forecasts in four stations located in northern Iran; Bandar Anzali, Rasht, Ramsar, and Babolsar. The first procedure applied support vector regression (SVR) for modeling the statistical characteristics and monthly precipitation of each class, IARIMA-SVR, which improved the evaluation metrics so that the decrease of Theil's coefficient and average relative variance in all stations was 21.14% and 17.06%, respectively. Two approaches are defined in the second procedure which includes a forecast combination (C) scheme, IARIMA-C-particle swarm optimization (PSO), and artificial intelligence technique. Generally, most of the time, IARIMA-C-PSO relative to the other approach, exhibited acceptable results and the accuracy improvement was greater than zero at all stations. Comparing the two procedures, it is found that the capability of IARIMA-C-PSO is higher concerning the IARIMA-SVR, so the decrease in the normalized mean squared error value from IARIMA to IARIMA-SVR and IARIMA-C-PSO is 36.72% and 39.92%, respectively for all stations. The residual predictive deviation (RPD) of IARIMA-C-PSO for all stations is greater than 2, which indicates the high performance of the model. With a comprehensive investigation, the performance of Bandar Anzali station is better than the other stations. By developing an improved ARIMA model, one can achieve a high performance in structure identifying and forecasting of monthly time series which is one of the issues of interest and importance.

Abstract One of the major problems endangering plant growth and productivity worldwide is salt stress. This study aimed to assess the effects of potassium silicate (K2O3Si) on the physical, biochemical, and morphological characteristics of chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) under various levels of salinity stress. The plants were treated with K2O3Si at concentrations of 0, 1, 2, and 3 mM and cultivated under different salt stress conditions (0, 80, 160, and 240 mM NaCl). The findings revealed that salt stress led to decreased root and shoot dry weights, Fv/Fm ratio, chlorophyll a, b, and total chlorophyll, as well as inulin contents. However, foliar exposure to K2O3Si at all salinity levels resulted in improvements in the measured traits. As salinity levels increased, there was a corresponding increase in the accumulation of sodium ions (Na+) and a sharp reduction in potassium ions (K +) in the shoot. Nonetheless, treatment with K2O3Si caused a decrease in Na + accumulation and an improvement in K+ content under all salinity levels. Carotenoid content increased under 80 mM salinity stress, but decreased with higher salinity levels. Application of K2O3Si at all levels resulted in increased carotenoid content under salinity stress conditions. The content of MDA increased significantly with increasing salinity stress, particularly at 240 mM. However, foliar spraying with K2O3Si significantly decreased MDA content at all salinity levels. Salinity stress up to 160 mM increased the total phenol, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents, while 240 mM NaCl decreased the biosynthesis of phytochemicals. Additionally, the use of K2O3Si increased the content of total phenol, flavonoid, and anthocyanin at all salt levels. Foliar application of K2O3Si increased the tolerance of chicory plants to salinity stress by reducing MDA and increasing phenolic compounds and potassium content. These results suggest that exogenous K2O3Si can be a practical strategy to improve the growth and yield of chicory plants exposed to saline environments.

Abstract Within a few decades, the species habitat was reshaped at an alarming rate followed by climate change, leading to mass extinction, especially for sensitive species. Species distribution models (SDMs), which estimate both present and future species distribution, have been extensively developed to investigate the impacts of climate change on species distribution and assess habitat suitability. In the West Asia essential oils of T. daenensis and T. kotschyanus include high amounts of thymol and carvacrol and are commonly used as herbal tea, spice, flavoring agents and medicinal plants. Therefore, this study aimed to model these Thymus species in Iran using the MaxEnt model under two representative concentration pathways (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5) for the years 2050 and 2070. The findings revealed that the mean temperature of the warmest quarter (bio10) was the most significant variable affecting the distribution of T. daenensis. In the case of T. kotschyanus, slope percentage was the primary influencing factor. The MaxEnt modeling also demonstrated excellent performance, as indicated by all the Area Under the Curve (AUC) values exceeding 0.9. Moreover, based on the projections, the two mentioned species are expected to undergo negative area changes in the coming years. These results can serve as a valuable achievement for developing adaptive management strategies aimed at enhancing protection and sustainable utilization in the context of global climate change.

Abstract Ornamental foliage plants that have a dense appearance are highly valued. One way to achieve this is by using plant growth regulators as a tool for plant growth management. In a greenhouse with a mist irrigation system, a study was conducted on dwarf schefflera, an ornamental foliage plant, which was exposed to foliar application of gibberellic acid and benzyladenine hormones. The hormones were sprayed on dwarf schefflera leaves at 0, 100, and 200 mg/l concentrations, at 15-day intervals in three stages. The experiment was conducted as a factorial based on a completely randomized design, with four replicates. The combination of gibberellic acid and benzyladenine at 200 mg/l concentration had a significant effect on leaf number, leaf area, and plant height. The treatment also resulted in the highest content of photosynthetic pigments. Furthermore, the highest soluble carbohydrate to reducing sugars ratio was observed in treatments of 100 and 200 mg/l benzyladenine, and 200 mg/l gibberellic acid + benzyladenine. Stepwise regression analysis showed that root volume was the first variable to enter the model, explaining 44% of variations. The next variable was root fresh weight, and the two-variable model explained 63% of variations in leaf number. The greatest positive effect on leaf number was related to root fresh weight (0.43), which had a positive correlation with leaf number (0.47). The results showed that 200 mg/l concentration of gibberellic acid and benzyladenine significantly improved morphological growth, chlorophyll and carotenoid synthesis, and reducing sugar and soluble carbohydrate contents in dwarf schefflera.

Introduction: Environmental noise, caused by traffic, leads to increased risk of health problems. Nowadays, noise pollution is one of the most important problems in the communities which adversely affects the health. The aim of this study was to assess the noise pollution in Khorramabad city. Materials and methods: To measure the noise level in the city, 39 stations near to sensitive places such as hospitals, educational centers, and so on were selected. Measurements were performed, for 30 min, in the mornings (7-10 AM) and evenings (5-8 PM) using a standard sound level meter. The measurements were made on working days during the week and assuming the traffic load was the same. Results: The sound level in all 39 considered stations was higher than the standard of residential-commercial in more than 90% of the stations compared to the environmental standard. The mean of sound measured in the monitored stations was equal to 68.28±2.6 dB. The maximum measured sound level belonged to station S2. In station S2, the maximum measured sound was reported as 81.72±11.3 dB. The findings showed that sound level in the evenings were slightly higher than the mornings. Also, in the evening, the highest and lowest measured sound values belonged to stations S1 and S20. The amount of measured sound level at stations S1 and S20 was equal to 80.9 and 39.7 dB, respectively. Based on findings, the highest and lowest sound recorded belonged to stations S39 and S20 which area type of stations S20 and S39 was commercial and residential, respectively. Conclusion: This study showed that the average level of sound pressure was higher than the permissible limit, so the necessity of planning is suggested to reduce the level of noise pollution and consequently reduce the anxiety level of citizens and increase health.

Background: Ascertaining accurately the exposure to antithrombotic medications for both research and quality initiatives has been challenging due to a multitude of reasons: aspirin, the most commonly used antithrombotic, is available over the counter in the United States. Additionally, antithrombotic medications are frequently interrupted for bleeding and procedures. Objectives: We aimed to develop and validate an algorithm to capture accurately the longitudinal exposure to antithrombotic medications including aspirin using the electronic health record. Methods: We used the Medical Inpatient Thrombosis and Hemostasis cohort, which consists of primary care patients at a university medical center followed for a median of 6.2 years. Exposure to antithrombotic medications was captured using the medication reconciliation data linked to each ambulatory encounter. We developed an algorithm that used the taking “yes” or “no” tab as well as start and stop dates to define the duration of exposure for each medication. Eighty charts were reviewed and compared with results of the algorithm for validation. We estimated the sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values. Results: The algorithm was 97% (95% CI, 94%-100%) sensitive and 95% (95% CI, 90%-100%) specific in identifying exposure to any antithrombotic medication. This translated to a 93% (95% CI, 85%-100%) positive predictive value and 98% (95% CI, 96%-100%) negative predictive value. When looking at aspirin alone, the sensitivity and the positive predictive value were 95% (95% CI, 88%-100%) and 87% (95% CI, 71%-100%). Conclusion: This current algorithm provides a new and easily adaptable strategy to capture accurately exposure to aspirin and other antithrombotic medications.

This investigation delves into the mechanical characteristics of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Concrete (BFRC), with a specific focus on compressive, flexural, and splitting tensile strengths. Employing a Multi-Output approach, six Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, namely Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost), Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LightGBM), Gradient Boosting, Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Random Forest, were used to predict the three output variables concurrently. The SHapley Additive exPlanations method facilitated sensitivity analysis, identifying influential factors, while Partial Dependence Plots (PDP) enhanced the comprehension of input impacts on the output values. The study revealed that the XGBoost algorithm exhibited superior performance, achieving an impressive R-squared value of 0.94 in predicting BFRC mechanical properties. Key parameters affecting compressive, flexural, and tensile strengths were pinpointed, emphasizing the critical roles of the water-to-cement ratio and coarse aggregates. PDP diagrams further unveiled optimal parameter ranges. The innovation of this research lies in its simultaneous prediction of multiple outputs, an approach that enhances the comprehensive assessment of BFRC mechanical properties. Furthermore, the utilization of SHapley Additive Explanations offers a robust method for interpreting results, enhancing transparency in model predictions. Lastly, the identification of critical parameters using PDP contributes valuable insights into the nuanced relationships governing BFRC behavior. Together, these innovations propel the field towards more accurate, interpretable, and insightful predictions in the realm of concrete technology.

Incorporating steel fibers into concrete effectively enhances its tensile strength by managing crack formation, increasing toughness and ductility, and reducing brittleness, making it a valuable choice for various applications, including bridge decks. Thus, the objective of this research is to employ the machine learning (ML) technique to estimate the splitting tensile strength (STS) of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) that incorporates hooked industrial steel fibers (ISF) using SFRC mixtures collected from various research papers in this field. The dataset comprises 116 data points from various research papers. Utilizing the recursive feature elimination with cross-validation and leave-one-out (RFECV-LOO) method, the most influential parameters, including ISF content, water-to-cement ratio (W/C), cement content (C), fine aggregate content (FA), superplasticizer (SP), and fly ash, were identified to train the ML models. Eight statistical metrics, including the root mean squared error (RMSE), mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), coefficient of determination (R2), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), mean bias error (MBE), statistical test (Tstat), and scatter index (SI) were employed as metrics to assess model performance. Various ML models including multiple linear regression (MLR), ridge regression (Ridge), lasso regression (Lasso), elastic net regression (ElasticNet), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), support vector regression (SVR), categorical boosting (CatBoost), light gradient boosting model (LightGBM), random forest (RF), gradient boosting (GB), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), and multilayer perceptron (MLP) were employed to predict the SFRC’s STS. The Python programming language, TensorFlow framework as well as the Scikit-learn packages, were used to run the models. Among the various ML methods, SVR demonstrated higher accuracy, achieving an R2 of 0.930, RMSE of 0.502, and MAE of 0.330. In contrast, linear regression models, especially Lasso with an R2 of 0.631, RMSE of 0.854, and MAE of 0.710, exhibited the least effective performance when it came to predicting the STS of SFRC. Moreover, the performance of the developed ML models was approved through sensitivity analysis as well as parametric analysis.

Abstract This research explores the eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Cassia occidentalis L. seed extract. Various analytical techniques, including UV–visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), were employed for comprehensive characterization. The UV–visible spectra revealed a distinct peak at 425 nm, while the seed extract exhibited peaks at 220 and 248 nm, indicating the presence of polyphenols and phytochemicals. High-resolution TEM unveiled spherical and oval-shaped AgNPs with diameters ranging from 6.44 to 28.50 nm. The SEM exhibiting a spherical shape and a polydisperse nature, thus providing insights into the morphology of the AgNPs. EDX analysis confirmed the presence of silver atoms at 10.01% in the sample. XRD results unequivocally confirm the crystalline nature of the AgNPs suspension, thereby providing valuable insights into their structural characteristics and purity. The antioxidant properties of AgNPs, C. occidentalis seed extract, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) were assessed, revealing IC50 values of 345, 500, and 434 μg/mL, respectively. Antibacterial evaluation against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli demonstrated heightened sensitivity of bacteria to AgNPs compared to AgNO3. Standard antibiotics, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin, acting as positive controls, exhibited substantial antibacterial efficacy. The green-synthesized AgNPs displayed potent antibacterial activity, suggesting their potential as a viable alternative to conventional antibiotics for combating pathogenic bacterial infections. Furthermore, potential biomedical applications of AgNPs were thoroughly discussed.

Abstract Biological and green synthesis of nanomaterial is a superior choice over chemical and physical methods due to nanoscale attributes implanted in a green chemistry matrix, have sparked a lot of interest for their potential uses in a variety of sectors. This research investigates the growing relevance of nanocomposites manufactured using ecologically friendly, green technologies. The transition to green synthesis correlates with the worldwide drive for environmentally sound procedures, limiting the use of traditional harsh synthetic techniques. Herein, manganese was decorated on ZnO NPs via reducing agent of Withania-extract and confirmed by UV-spectrophotometry with highest peak at 1:2 ratio precursors, and having lower bandgap energy (3.3 eV). XRD showed the sharp peaks and confirms the formation of nanoparticles, having particle size in range of 11–14 nm. SEM confirmed amorphous tetragonal structure while EDX spectroscopy showed the presence of Zn and Mn in all composition. Green synthesized Mn-decorated ZnO-NPs screened against bacterial strains and exhibited excellent antimicrobial activities against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. To check further, applicability of synthesized Mn-decorated Zn nanocomposites, their photocatalytic activity against toxic water pollutants (methylene blue (MB) dye) were also investigated and results showed that 53.8% degradation of MB was done successfully. Furthermore, the installation of green chemistry in synthesizing nanocomposites by using plant extract matrix optimizes antibacterial characteristics, antioxidant and biodegradability, helping to build sustainable green Mn decorated ZnO nanomaterial. This work, explains how biologically friendly Mn-doped ZnO nanocomposites can help reduce the environmental impact of traditional packaging materials. Based on these findings, it was determined that nanocomposites derived from biological resources should be produced on a wide scale to eradicate environmental and water contaminants through degradation.

Abstract An experiment was conducted in a greenhouse to determine the effects of different supplemental light spectra on the growth, nutrient uptake, and fruit quality of four strawberry cultivars. The plants were grown under natural light and treated with blue (460 nm), red (660 nm), and red/blue (3:1) lights. Results showed that the “Parous” and “Camarosa” had higher fresh and dry mass of leaves, roots, and crowns compared to the “Sabrina” and “Albion”. The use of artificial LED lights improved the vegetative growth of strawberry plants. All three supplemental light spectra significantly increased the early fruit yield of cultivars except for “Parous”. The red/blue supplemental light spectrum also increased the fruit mass and length of the “Albion”. Supplemental light increased the total chlorophyll in “Camarosa” and “Albion”, as well as the total soluble solids in fruits. The “Albion” had the highest concentration of fruit anthocyanin, while the “Sabrina” had the lowest. The use of supplemental light spectra significantly increased the fruit anthocyanin concentration in all cultivars. Without supplemental light, the “Camarosa” had the lowest concentration of K and Mg, which increased to the highest concentration with the use of supplemental light spectra. All three spectra increased Fe concentration to the highest value in the “Sabrina”, while only the red/blue light spectrum was effective on the “Camarosa”. In conclusion, the use of supplemental light can increase the yield and fruit quality of strawberries by elevating nutrients, chlorophyll, and anthocyanin concentrations in plants.

Abstract The production of surface compounds coated with active substances has gained significant attention in recent years. This study investigated the physical, mechanical, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties of a composite made of starch and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) containing various concentrations of Ferula gummosa essential oil (0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%). The addition of ZnO NPs improved the thickness, mechanical and microbial properties, and reduced the water vapor permeability of the starch active film. The addition of F. gummosa essential oil to the starch nanocomposite decreased the water vapor permeability from 6.25 to 5.63 g mm−2 d−1 kPa−1, but this decrease was significant only at the concentration of 1.5% of essential oils (p
