1. Revisiting Tilt and Tensor-to-Scalar Ratio in the Multi-Scalar Field Inflation

Abstract

The present work investigates the possible range of the spectral index $n_s$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ for a sub-class of the generalized multi-scalar field inflation, which includes a linear coupling term between the multi-scalar field potential and the canonical Lagrangian. This coupling influences the slow-roll parameters and also alters our predictions for $n_{s}$ and $r$, which directly depend on those parameters. More precisely, compared to standard multi-field inflation, the values of $n_{s}$ and $r$ decrease to levels consistent with the recent Planck+BICEP/Keck constraint. Interestingly, this validates the chaotic-type potential $V=\sum_{i} \mu_{i} \phi_{i}^{p}$, which were previously ruled out in the light of the current observations., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, and 2 tables

Abstract

Early diagnosis and treatment of polyps during colonoscopy are essential for reducing the incidence and mortality of Colorectal Cancer (CRC). However, the variability in polyp characteristics and the presence of artifacts in colonoscopy images and videos pose significant challenges for accurate and efficient polyp detection and segmentation. This paper presents a novel approach to polyp segmentation by integrating the Segment Anything Model (SAM 2) with the YOLOv8 model. Our method leverages YOLOv8's bounding box predictions to autonomously generate input prompts for SAM 2, thereby reducing the need for manual annotations. We conducted exhaustive tests on five benchmark colonoscopy image datasets and two colonoscopy video datasets, demonstrating that our method exceeds state-of-the-art models in both image and video segmentation tasks. Notably, our approach achieves high segmentation accuracy using only bounding box annotations, significantly reducing annotation time and effort. Abstract

Polyp segmentation plays a crucial role in the early detection and diagnosis of colorectal cancer. However, obtaining accurate segmentations often requires labor-intensive annotations and specialized models. Recently, Meta AI Research released a general Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2), which has demonstrated promising performance in several segmentation tasks. In this manuscript, we evaluate the performance of SAM 2 in segmenting polyps under various prompted settings. We hope this report will provide insights to advance the field of polyp segmentation and promote more interesting work in the future. 11. Alleviating $H_0$ and $S_8$ Tensions Simultaneously in K-essence Cosmology

Abstract

The present work begins by examining the early-Universe inflationary epoch of a special K-essence model, which incorporates a linear coupling term between the scalar field potential and the canonical Lagrangian. For the power law potential, we both numerically and analytically prove that the inflationary parameters such as the spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio are compatible with the recent BICEP/Keck observations. Continuing this work, our analysis based on comparing early-Universe observations with late-Universe measurements indicates that the tension on the Hubble parameter $H_0$ and the growth of structure parameter $S_8$ can be alleviated simultaneously. More precisely, compared to the standard $\Lambda$CDM model, our model can reduce $H_0$ tension to roughly $2.2 \sigma$ and the $S_8$ discrepancy diminishes to $0.82\sigma$., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, more references added to the manuscript

12. Criticality and thermodynamic geometry of quantum BTZ black holes

Abstract

Within the framework of extended black hole thermodynamics, where the cosmological constant acts as the thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate as the thermodynamic volume, we analyze the phase structure and thermodynamic geometry of the three-dimensional quantum-corrected BTZ (qBTZ) black hole. Our results uncover two-phase transitions in the $T-S$ plane across all pressures except at a critical value. Numerical analysis reveals continuous critical phenomena along the coexistence curve, with critical exponents of 2 and 3 for the heat capacity at constant pressure and the NTG curvature, respectively. Importantly, these values notably deviate from the well-known critical exponents observed in mean-field Van der Waals (VdW) fluids, where the NTG curvature and heat capacity demonstrate discontinuous criticality. Abstract

Digital pathology involves converting physical tissue slides into high-resolution Whole Slide Images (WSIs), which pathologists analyze for disease-affected tissues. However, large histology slides with numerous microscopic fields pose challenges for visual search. To aid pathologists, Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems offer visual assistance in efficiently examining WSIs and identifying diagnostically relevant regions. This paper presents a novel histopathological image analysis method employing Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation (WSSS) based on Capsule Networks, the first such application. The proposed model is evaluated using the Atlas of Digital Pathology (ADP) dataset and its performance is compared with other histopathological semantic segmentation methodologies. The findings underscore the potential of Capsule Networks in enhancing the precision and efficiency of histopathological image analysis. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms traditional methods in terms of accuracy and the mean Intersection-over-Union (mIoU) metric.

Abstract

Summary Breast cancer will overtake all other cancers in terms of diagnoses in 2024. Breast cancer counts highest among women in terms of cancer incidence and death rates. Innovative treatment approaches are desperately needed because treatment resistance brought on by current clinical drugs impedes therapeutic efficacy. The T cell-based immunotherapy known as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell treatment, which uses the patient’s immune cells to fight cancer, has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in treating hematologic malignancies; nevertheless, the treatment effects in solid tumors, like breast cancer, have not lived up to expectations. We discuss in detail the role of tumor-associated antigens in breast cancer, current clinical trials, barriers to the intended therapeutic effects of CAR-T cell therapy, and potential ways to increase treatment efficacy. Finally, our review aims to stimulate readers’ curiosity by summarizing the most recent advancements in CAR-T cell therapy for breast cancer.

Abstract

The current research focused on the designing of questionnaire for factors that impact student learning outcomes in tertiary educational system in underdeveloped nation Pakistan. A pilot study was conducted for the designing of questionnaire to collect data on perceived factors that impact student learning outcomes. The selected Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized private educational institutions were contacted and permission of data collection was obtained from the authorities. Ninety eight students of final semester from HEC recognized tertiary universities at Bachelors level from the department of Science were approached for this study. Participants were informed that the data will be kept in a laptop under password protection. There were 41 total items in the questionnaire. It has been divided into 2 sections. Section A includes the demographic characteristics of participants and includes 7 questions. Section B is divided into 6 subsections, each section capturing the true essence of independent and dependent variables. The results of the study concluded that student perception questionnaire has good to excellent intra rater reliability and indicates that all components have factor loading exceeding 0.50 that also shows the importance of all components. Thus, the questionnaire can be used for the assessment of factors that impact student learning outcomes from educational institutes.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel mechanism in $\mathbb{T}^2$-inflation to enhance the power spectrum large enough to seed primordial black holes (PBHs) formation. To accomplish this, we consider the coupling function between the inflaton field and $\mathbb{T}^2= T_{\mu \nu}T^{\mu \nu}$ term. PBHs formed within this scenario can contribute partially or entirely to dark matter (DM) abundance. Furthermore, the amplification in the scalar power spectrum will concurrently produce significant scalar-induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) as a second-order effect. Abstract

In this paper, we examine chaotic inflation within the context of the energy-momentum squared gravity (EMSG) focusing on the energy-momentum powered gravity (EMPG) that incorporates the functional $f(\mathbb{T}^2)\propto (\mathbb{T}^2)^{\beta}$ in the Einstein-Hilbert action, in which $\beta$ is a constant and $\mathbb{T}^2\equiv T_{\mu \nu}T^{\mu \nu}$ where $T_{\mu \nu}$ is the energy-momentum tensor, which we consider to represent a single scalar field with a power-law potential. We demonstrate that the presence of EMSG terms allows the single-field monomial chaotic inflationary models to fall within current observational constraints, which are otherwise disfavored by Planck and BICEP/Keck findings. We show that the use of a non-canonical Lagrangian with chaotic potential in EMSG can lead to significantly larger values of the non-Gaussianity parameter, $f_{\rm Nl}^{\rm equi}$ whereas EMSG framework with canonical Lagrangian gives rise to results similar to those of the standard single-field model., Comment: 25 pages, 4 figures, and 2 tables, added discussion, accepted by Physics of the Dark Universe

Abstract

According to the legal system of Iran and Algeria, any marriage before the Marriageable age is subject to the permission of the parents of the child in compliance with the expediency of the child by the court. In Algerian law, such a marriage is possible subject to the child’s status of necessity. In Islamic jurisprudence, the eligibility for marriage is subject to the maturity age of the child (Marriageability age), and Marriage before this age for a child on behalf of the parents, executor, and the judge in the child's interest is allowed. such a marriage is subject only to the parent’s permission. The best interest of the child is a relative concept and must be evaluated according to the child’s gender, age, and mental and physical condition. We have three ways to determine the best interest of a child in such a marriage: consultation with parents, experts, and social research. According to the Algerian family law, permission to marry without a medical certificate is prohibited, and judges also use the criterion of consulting parents. There is a degree of disagreement in opinions regarding the status of child marriage with the permission of the parents and without determining the best interests of the child by the court, and its revocability in Iranian law and validity in Algerian law is preferred.

Abstract

IntroductionThe therapeutic efficacy of oral administration of Ziziphus jujube in the context of uterine adhesion (UA) and its impact on pregnancy outcomes was investigated.MethodsIn a rat UA model, Z. jujube was evaluated for its ability to mitigate injury-induced uterine adhesion bands, uterine shortening, and enhance endometrial regeneration. The assessment included analysis of gland numbers, uterine endometrial thickness, and regulation of inflammatory cytokines. The antioxidant properties of Z. jujube were also studied through antioxidant enzyme activity in uterine tissue homogenates. Fibrotic changes were examined through histological Trichrome staining and analysis of pro-fibrotic factors.ResultsTreatment with Z. jujube resulted in a significant reduction in uterine tissue fibrosis, as evidenced by histological evaluation and reduced expression of fibrotic markers. The intervention demonstrated positive outcomes in embryonic development, pregnancy rates, and pregnancy outcomes. Z. jujube effectively inhibited the formation of extra-uterine adhesion bands to internal organs. No toxicity-related morphological changes were observed in vital organs of the Z. Jujube-treated group.DiscussionThe results collectively indicate that Z. jujube is a safe and potent natural product with anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties, highlighting its potential as a novel candidate for clinical studies targeting UA in patients.

Abstract

Tetanus, although rare in vaccinated regions, remains common in developing countries. Cephalic tetanus, caused by Clostridium tetani, is a rare, potentially fatal neurological condition. The presenting symptoms include spasms, rigidity, and paralysis in the head and neck. This case report describes a 5-year-old girl with unilateral facial paralysis initially diagnosed as Bell's palsy. Subsequent development of trismus and dysphagia led to a revised diagnosis of cephalic tetanus. Peripheral facial palsy may be an early sign of cephalic tetanus and should be considered in patients with relevant exposure history. Our patient’s recent nasal foreign body removal raised suspicion of cephalic tetanus, confirmed through clinical findings. Treatment with tetanus immunoglobulin and antibiotics led to gradual improvement. This case emphasizes the importance of considering cephalic tetanus in the differential diagnosis of facial nerve palsy, especially if there is a history of foreign body exposure. Early recognition and treatment are essential for favorable outcomes.

Abstract

Summary: Background: People with diabetes are at increased risk of hospitalisation, morbidity, and mortality following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Long-term outcomes for people with diabetes previously hospitalised with COVID-19 are, however, unknown. This study aimed to determine the longer-term physical and mental health effects of COVID-19 in people with and without diabetes. Methods: The PHOSP-COVID study is a multicentre, long-term follow-up study of adults discharged from hospital between 1 February 2020 and 31 March 2021 in the UK following COVID-19, involving detailed assessment at 5 and 12 months after discharge. The association between diabetes status and outcomes were explored using multivariable linear and logistic regressions. Findings: People with diabetes who survived hospital admission with COVID-19 display worse physical outcomes compared to those without diabetes at 5- and 12-month follow-up. People with diabetes displayed higher fatigue (only at 5 months), frailty, lower physical performance, and health-related quality of life and poorer cognitive function. Differences in outcomes between diabetes status groups were largely consistent from 5 to 12-months. In regression models, differences at 5 and 12 months were attenuated after adjustment for BMI and presence of other long-term conditions. Interpretation: People with diabetes reported worse physical outcomes up to 12 months after hospital discharge with COVID-19 compared to those without diabetes. These data support the need to reduce inequalities in long-term physical and mental health effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in people with diabetes.
