We show that self-dual Bianchi IX and VIII cosmological models are described by the Nahm dynamical system for an appropriate type of matrices. We construct the general solutions in the case of the diagonal reductions of the corresponding Nahm equations and give the explicit expressions for the corresponding self-dual metrics in the Euclidean and in the Minkowski signature cases., Comment: 16 pages

In the derivation of the generating function of the Gaudin Hamiltonians with boundary terms, we follow the same approach used previously in the rational case, which in turn was based on Sklyanin's method in the periodic case. Our derivation is centered on the quasi-classical expansion of the linear combination of the transfer matrix of the XXZ Heisenberg spin chain and the central element, the so-called Sklyanin determinant. The implementation of the algebraic Bethe ansatz for the XXZ Heisenberg spin chain, of arbitrary spin-$s$, in the case, when both reflection matrices have the upper-triangular form is analyzed. The general form of the Bethe vectors is studied. In the particular form, Bethe vectors admit the recurrent procedure, with an appropriate modification, used previously in the case of the XXX Heisenberg chain. As expected, these Bethe vectors yield the strikingly simple expression for the off-shell action of the transfer matrix of the chain as well as the spectrum of the transfer matrix and the corresponding Bethe equations. The Gaudin model based on the sl_2-invariant r-matrix with an extra Jordanian term depending on the spectral parameters is considered. The appropriate creation operators defining the Bethe states of the system are constructed through a recurrence relation. The commutation relations between the generating function t(\lambda) of the integrals of motion and the creation operators are calculated and therefore the algebraic Bethe Ansatz is fully implemented. The energy spectrum as well as the corresponding Bethe equations of the system coincide with the ones of the sl_2-invariant Gaudin model. We consider integrable open spin chains related to the quantum affine algebras U_q(o(3)) and U_q(A_2^{(2)}). We discuss the symmetry algebras of these chains with the local C^3 space related to the Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra. The symmetry algebra and the Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra centralize each other in the representation space, and this defines the structure of the spin system spectra. A reducible representation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra is constructed on the tensor product of n-dimensional spaces. Schlesinger transformations are discrete monodromy preserving symmetry transformations of a meromorphic connection which shift by integers the eigenvalues of its residues. We study Schlesinger transformations for twisted sl_N-valued connections on the torus. A universal construction is presented which gives the elementary two-point transformations in terms of Belavin's elliptic quantum R-matrix. In particular, the role of the quantum deformation parameter is taken by the difference of the two poles whose residue eigenvalues are shifted. Elementary one-point transformations (acting on the residue eigenvalues at a single pole) are constructed in terms of the classical elliptic r-matrix. The action of these transformations on the tau-function of the system may completely be integrated and we obtain explicit expressions in terms of the parameters of the connection. Gaudin model based on the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra osp(1|2) is studied. The eigenvectors of the osp(1|2) invariant Gaudin hamiltonians are constructed by algebraic Bethe Ansatz. We find two-dimensional free-field variables for D-dimensional general relativity on spacetimes with D-2 commuting spacelike Killing vector fields and non-compact spatial sections for D>4. We show that there is a canonical transformation which maps the corresponding two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory into a two-dimensional diffeomorphism invariant theory of the free-field variables. Schlesinger transformations are discrete monodromy preserving symmetry transformations of the classical Schlesinger system. We examine the reduced phase space of the Barbero-Varadarajan solutions of the Ashtekar formulation of (2+1)-dimensional general relativity on a torus. We show that it is a finite-dimensional space due to existence of an infinite dimensional residual gauge invariance which reduces the infinite-dimensional space of solutions to a finite-dimensional space of gauge-inequivalent solutions. This is in agreement with general arguments which imply that the number of physical degrees of freedom for (2+1)-dimensional Ashtekar gravity on a torus is finite., Comment: 13 pages, Latex. Pure (2+1)-dimensional Einstein gravity is analysed in the Ashtekar formulation, when the spatial manifold is a torus. We have found a set of globally defined observables, forming a closed algebra. This allowed us to solve the quantum constraints, and to show that the reduced phase space of the Ashtekar formulation is greater then the corresponding space of the Witten formulation. Furthermore, we have found a globally defined time variable which satisfies all the requiriments of an extrinsic time variable in quantum gravity., Comment: 15 pages
