The content of this book is intended to contribute to the challenges of managing a smart city, technology acceptance issues, and new, underlying business models. The book provides theoretical and empirical underpinnings regarding the development and current trends of the Smart City concept alongside proposing future research opportunities. Researchers agree that 5G technology and digital transformation are crucial for the development of smart cities and smart public administration. The concept of smart cities derives from the global trend of urbanisation. According to the United Nations Population Fund, the latest figures show that the population share in cities has doubled in the last few years and is expected to reach over 70% of the total population by the end of 2050. Consequently, cities need to cope with related and upcoming changes/challenges, while cities branded as “smart” need to keep or reach a high standard of quality of life for their citizens. With the popularisation of the Smart City concept and through the implementation of digital transformation projects in public administration, information services have radically changed, thus heavily impacting systems in an urban environment. In an effort to identify and explore the challenges as well as the potential and priorities for the implementation of smart city applications, cities often encounter complex problems, assuming considerable uncertainty. Managing digitalisation is becoming increasingly demanding due to rapidly evolving innovations and the difficulty of managing the complexity of related technologies. However, these issues are not challenging only for organizations and individuals but for cities and local communities as well. Cities in particular are faced with major challenges arising from global shifts in the environment, rapid urbanisation and older infrastructure. As a result, several smart-cityrelated initiatives are emerging. Yet not all are successful. The book is thus focused on the analysis of new business models, technological innovations and their use related to the development of smart cities. After all, the spread of technology and the availability of automatically collected data create new opportunities for managing public services and creating new services. The primary audience of this book will be students, academics interested in the Smart City concept, government organizations, managers, policymakers and strategic planners who intend to understand emerging digital technologies as well as their impact and applicability for cities. The book includes strategies for implementing and managing digital technologies together with a discussion on new business models. The chapters in this book are grouped into two parts: part one includes general theoretical and technical discussions of technologies and their benefits for modern cities, and part two includes use cases of different digital technologies and business models.

Purpose – The importance of information systems (IS) professions is increasing. As personality–job fit theory claims, employees must have suitable personality traits for particular IS professions. However, candidates can try to fake-good on personality tests towards the desired personality type. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify archetypal IS professions, their associated personality types and examine the reliability of the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test in IS recruitment decisions. Design/methodology/approach – The authors reviewed academic literature related to IS professions to identify job archetypes and personality traits for IS professions. Then, the authors conducted an experiment with 452 participants to investigate whether candidates can fake-good on personality tests when being tested for a particular IS profession. Findings – The identified job archetypes were IS project manager, IS marketing specialist, IS consultant, IS security specialist, data scientist and business process analyst. The experimental results show that the participants were not able to fake-good considerably regarding their personality traits for a particular archetype. Research limitations/implications – The taxonomy of IS professions should be validated further. The experiment was executed in an educational organisation and not in a real-life environment. Actual work performance was not measured. Practical implications – This study enables a better identification of suitable candidates for a particular IS profession. Personality tests are good indicators of the candidate’s true personality type but must be properly interpreted. Originality/value – This study enhances the existing body of knowledge on IS professions’ archetypes, proposes suitable MBTI personality types for each profession and provides experimental support for the appropriateness of using personality tests to identify potentially suitable candidates.

Companies face huge challenges in managing their digital transformation in terms of key actors, their roles and the way they interplay. Based on a survey of 181 large and medium-sized Slovenian companies, we discover six differently successful organizational patterns. The most successful identified pattern is the business–IT partnership approach, where top management and the IT department are responsible for the digital transformation, and the CIO is an orchestrator and a member of top management. However, this is not the only possible successful approach for digital transformation. Recommendations and possible evolutionary paths for companies in each pattern are also outlined in the paper, including the importance of orchestrating the activities and actors of digital transformation and its strategic role. Digitalna preobrazba predstavlja stevilne izzive za uveljavljena podjetja, ki se vedno bolj zavedajo, da je digitalizacija predvsem poslovni izziv, ki zahteva spremembe organizacijske kulture, ljudi, poslovnih procesov in poslovnih modelov. Slovenija na podlagi nekaterih raziskav v tem pogledu zaostaja. Clanek prispeva k poznavanju stanja na podrocju digitalne preobrazbe v slovenskih velikih in srednjih podjetjih ter k boljsemu razumevanju kljucnih dejavnikov uspesne digitalne preobrazbe, kar predstavlja podlago za sprejemanje ustreznih odlocitev in nadaljnji razvoj aktivnosti v Sloveniji. Analiza temelji na raziskavi, opravljeni junija in julija 2017, ki je preucevala razlicne poslovne vidike digitalne preobrazbe kot so njena strateska vloga, digitalna kultura, digitalna zrelost in organizacijske vidike. Rezultati analize potrjujejo, da so tudi slovenska podjetja v splosnem digitalno manj zrela kot podjetja v svetu. Samo vlaganja v informatiko digitalne zrelosti ne povecujejo, temvec je digitalna zrelost podjetij visja v podjetjih, kjer so prepoznali poslovno vlogo informatikov. Digitalizacija in z njo povezana digitalna preobrazba postaja eden izmed pomembnejsih izzivov v podjetjih. Stevilne raziskave proucujejo dejavnike, ki omogocajo digitalno preobrazbo ter vplive digitalne preobrazbe na poslovanje podjetij. Vsekakor je eden izmed pogojev za uspesno izvedeno digitalno preobrazbo tudi razumevanje med vodilnim managementom in informatiki, ki skrbijo za izvajanje projektov digitalizacije. Kljub prizadevanjem po oblikovanju ustreznega odnosa med informatiki in vodilnim managementom, je v veliko podjetjih se vedno prisoten razkorak med njimi. Namen clanka je tako prispevati k razumevanju tega razkoraka s prikazom dejavnikov, ki vodijo v partnerski odnos. Rezultati raziskave, v kateri je sodelovalo 221 vodij službe za informatiko, izpostavljajo predvsem pomen poslovnih in managerskih znanj pri doseganju partnerskega odnosa. Prav zaradi posledic neustrezne informatizacije, je problematika, ki jo obravnava prispevek, zelo aktualna in želja po premostitvi razkoraka oziroma vecjem sodelovanju med vodilnim managementom in informatiki vedno bolj prisotna.

Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Information Systems and Technologies Management The most recent trends show an increase in the urbanization of cities, and, consequently, inner territories become more depopulated, business activities get closed, services get reduced and the overall services become poor and not able to offer quality offers to visitors (Bolay, 2020). According to (United Nations, 2019), by 2050 more than three out of four people will be living in urban areas. Nowadays, many studies have addressed the evolution and features of Smart Cities (Van Dijk & Teuben, 2015) and tourism is also one of those spheres that got digitally transformed by Smart Cities (Khan, Woo, Nam, & Chathoth, 2017). One of the features of smart applications is the possibility to let the user be a driver of value in creating and sharing contents (Kontogianni & Alepis, 2020). However, the explosion of smart solutions enabled by the latest technological innovations has been mostly contextualized in urban environments while fewer solutions have been developed in less urbanized rural areas (Steyn & Johanson, 2010). The methodology used employs the merging of two of the core contemporary service research approaches: Service Science and Service-Dominant logic; the first offers an organizational framework to generate and integrate value co-creation in terms of a smart service systems (Polese, Botti, Grimaldi, Monta & Vesci, 2018). For the same purpose, but differently, the second proposes a different layout called service ecosystems (Vargo & Lusch, 2016). This combination of approaches overcomes individual model limitations by setting an integrated model that can be employed to hypercompetitive and experience-based sectors (Polese, Botti, Grimaldi, Monta & Vesci, 2018), and that was adopted by using a case study methodology, relying on semi-structured interviews.
