Oral folklore tradition is a unique phenomenon in West Borneo. This study aims to gain the lecturer's perspectives and reflection toward its implementation as a project-based activity for encouraging university students to transform local folklore into texts in English. It combines Finnegan's instructional procedure, and Gordon's synectic model and the creative state, which has been defined as creative instruction. Multiple observations and an in-depth interview with the folklore lecturer were conducted for this qualitative investigation. The lecturer is recognized as being exceptionally representative of this study employing purposive sampling under lived experience study because of his proficiency and enthusiasm. Having this creative instruction under supervision makes it clear that there is more room for the student's imagination and creativity to grow throughout this project-based activity. It gives them freedom to freely pursue their interests. Without excluding the possibilities of use in areas where there is still local folklore, this creative instruction is specifically suited for regions that are still rich in oral tradition. Further research is essential, nevertheless, as this study does not go into great detail on the perspectives and involvement among various students, the diversity of cultures and geographies, or the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).

Academic writing has been a widely substantial course in higher education as it plays a vital role in cultivating students' academic writing skills. Drawing on qualitative descriptive study, this study aims to explore the fundamental requirements for academic writing to base the creation of an effective learning framework. Data consisted of teaching materials, semester learning plan (SLP), assessment tools, and guidelines for academic writing from three universities in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Findings reveal that learning materials and the SLP have both strengths and weaknesses. Despite these, there is diversity in learning and assessment methods. Adopted teaching methods encompass project-based learning, problem-solving, and lectures, while learning assessment includes portfolio techniques, project assessment, and written exams. These findings provide insight into the imperative of academic writing in the academic setting. This serves as a basis for the development of more effective learning methods. Thus, the proposed model for academic writing adopts a project-based approach to improve students' writing by integrating indigenous wisdom to promote students' character development.

This research aims to improve the numeracy abilities of secondary students after using the Labirin: the board game and students' perceptions of mathematics learning using the game. This empirical study research used a one-group pretest posttest design. The research population is all grade-8 students in one of the Islamic public secondary schools (MTsN) in Serang City. The sample is 76 students from two classes as the experimental class who implemented the game in learning mathematics. The instruments used to collect the data are the numeracy ability tests and students' perception questionnaires. Before use, both instruments are tested for validity and reliability. The findings showed that the students' numeracy abilities improved after implementing the game and helped students to learn mathematics easily, especially in whole numbers and fractions. In addition, the student's understanding is also achieved. The implementation of the game also showed that this learning media helps students learn in the classroom and interest in using the game. It can be concluded that, the Labirin: the board game improved the student's numeracy ability.

Most countries in the world have experienced environmental disasters. To ameliorate environmental disasters everyone must take part, including those in schools and universities. The aim of the study was to instil and develop ecofeminism awareness by means of ecofeminist pedagogy in the literature class. The study involved students and lecturers of the three universities in the cities of Yogyakarta and Surakarta, Indonesia. The study was conducted in two semesters (February -- May and September -- November 2018). The findings show that the ecofeminist pedagogical model of learning was able to cultivate and elevate students' ecofeminism awareness as indicated by their willingness to be involved in taking care of and preserving the environment in their daily life activities, individually or in groups. This attitude was evident in the lecturers' and students' knowledge and skills in reading, selecting, and interpreting literary works that raise ecofeminism issues as source texts revealed in the essays that were written and compiled in book form. Publication of this book was one of the efforts to disseminate the ideas and knowledge of ecofeminism. Finally, after attending the ecofeminist pedagogical classes, students were also expected to take part in and be responsible for the preservation of the environment and Earth and appreciate gender equality. These findings can be used as a model for learning other subjects, especially at universities that have a green campus vision.

This study aimed to uncover the new evidence on how reform works based on Indonesian experience of adopting a text-based learning (TBL) approach in differing perceptions and teacher activities at the beginning of curriculum implementation. The secondary schools in Makassar city were used as the case studies while the study design had two questions. Data collection was conducted in two parts, A and B, which dealt with teachers' perceptions of TBL and the involvement at the beginning of its implementation, respectively. The sample comprised 46 secondary school teachers from Makassar city, including 33 civil servants and 13 non-civil servants. These individuals had various teaching experiences in four categories, including 1 year or less, and more than 1 to 5, more than 5 to 10, and more than 10. Moreover, the collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the teacher's proportion with the same TBL perception in various aspects ranged from half to all. The proportion with the same activity was less than half of their number to nearly all of them. Generally, Indonesian secondary school teachers responded positively towards text-based learning implementation.

Abstract Introduction Spinal cord ischemic reperfusion injury is characterized by an abrupt decline in neurological function and only a few cases have been published in literature. Herein, we present a white cord syndrome following anterior decompression cervical fusion. Case Report A 54-year-old Jewish male patient was diagnosed with disc herniation among the intervertebral discs at C2, C3, C4, C6, and C7, along with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, pressuring more to the right side of the spinal canal, ruling-out cervical myelopathy. Under general anesthesia and multimodal intraoperative monitoring, he underwent laminectomy surgery from C3 to C6 and cervical fixation from C3 to C7. No blood pressure fluctuations occurred during surgery, and complete pressure release was achieved on the spinal cord and the nerve roots. In addition, neuromonitoring did not indicate any nerve damage during the surgery. A neurologic exam in the post-anesthesia care unit revealed weakness in his right hand and leg. A brain computed tomography scan ruled out cerebrovascular accident, neck computed tomography revealed optimal implant position, and magnetic resonance imaging ruled out spinal cord distress or injury. We treated him with intravenous fluids, steroids, painkillers, and anticoagulants. Following surgery, we involved the occupational therapy department. After a few days, we observed a significant improvement in motor function in the right leg; however, there was no change in the right hand. Conclusion White cord syndrome likely arises from reperfusion injury subsequent to surgical decompression of a compressed spinal cord segment. Although infrequent, it is imperative for spine surgeons to recognize this potential complication and apprise patients of it prior to the procedure.

Abstract Both the quality of chicken meat and the quality of chicks are influenced by the level of breast muscle glycogen reserves. In order to study the role of digestive metabolism in establishing this muscular phenotype, we compared two divergent chicken lines for the ultimate pH (pHu) of the breast meat, a proxy for glycogen reserves. Males aged 4 weeks had twice the breast muscle glycogen content in the pHu- line (low pHu) than in the pHu + line (high pHu). The increase in glycogen reserves (pHu-) was associated with a higher relative weight of the proventriculus and gizzard, as well as better apparent ileal digestibility of nitrogen and calcium. The diversity of the cecal microbiota was comparable, but three bacterial genera (Lachnospira, Lachnospiraceae UCG-010, Caproiciproducens) varied between the lines. The differences observed could lead to down-regulation of carbon fixation in prokaryotes and of the citrate cycle in the pHu + line. RNA-seq analysis of the jejunum, the major site of nutrient absorption, revealed 149 genes differentially expressed (DE) between the lines, including several genes linked to immunity, hormonal response and circadian rhythms that are less expressed in pHu + animals. Others involved in cell migration and proliferation, and more generally tissue morphogenesis, also differed between the lines. Among the DE genes, several co-localized with Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) controlling pHu and selection signatures identified in the divergent lines, such as the gene coding for ghrelin, a hormone regulating appetite.

Abstract The presence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is an ongoing public health concern. While traditional methods to discover ADRs are very costly and limited, it is prudent to predict ADRs through non-invasive methods such as machine learning based on existing data. Although various studies exist regarding ADR prediction using non-clinical data, a process that leverages both demographic and non-clinical data for ADR prediction is missing. In addition, the importance of individual features in ADR prediction has yet to be fully explored. This study aims to develop an ADR prediction model based on demographic and non-clinical data, where we identify the highest contributing factors. We focus our efforts on 30 common and severe ADRs reported to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 2012 and 2023. We have developed a random forest (RF) and deep learning (DL) machine learning model that ingests demographic data (e.g., Age and Gender of patients) and non-clinical data, which includes chemical, molecular, and biological drug characteristics. We successfully unified both demographic and non-clinical data sources within a complete dataset regarding ADR prediction. Model performances were assessed via the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and the mean average precision (MAP). We demonstrated that our parsimonious models, which include only the top 20 most important features comprising 5 demographic features and 15 non-clinical features (13 molecular and 2 biological), achieve ADR prediction performance comparable to a less practical, feature-rich model consisting of all 2,315 features. Specifically, our models achieved an AUC of 0.611 and 0.674 for RF and DL algorithms, respectively. We hope our research provides researchers and clinicians with valuable insights and facilitates future research designs by identifying top ADR predictors (including demographic information) and practical parsimonious models.

Conventional epoxy coating for surface metal corrosion protection reported many unsolved technical problems. Adding filler in the epoxy could enhance the promising properties of the composite coating. Our work describes in detail the synthesizing and characterizing epoxy/carbon composite coating. Epoxy was mixed with thinner high gloss (HG) and hardener and stirred using a stirrer apparatus. After blending, various carbons were added (1 wt. %, 3 wt. %, and 5 wt. %) and then appropriately stirred. The different mixture composite was coated onto the steel plate cold rolled coiled (SPCC) plate using high-volume low-pressure (HVLP) in two passes. Various characterizations were performed, including crystallographic orientation, Infra-Red (IR)-spectra, surface morphology, thickness, hydrophobicity, hardness, and corrosion using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), portable dry film coating thickness (DFT), digital camera, Vickers microhardness tester, and Potentiostat, respectively. More carbon micron-sized content led to elevate the peak intensity, surface bumpiness, and hydrophobicity. The uppermost external bumpiness and hydrophobicity values are 23.51 µm and 101◦. Hardness depends on carbon content and more carbon leads to an increase in the hardness of the composited coating. The highest average Vickers hardness value is 28.24 HV. The coating thickness influenced the corrosion rate, more coating thickness promoted lesser corrosion rate. The highest coating thickness (60.8 µm) promoted a corrosion rate of around 5.65×10−4 mmpy.

Abstract The Nigeria Government through the Energy Commission of Nigeria has been promoting biomass as one of the renewable energy sources with little emphasis on biogas technology. These efforts were meant to encourage the adoption of alternate sources of energy and shift from traditional forms of energy like firewood which have devastating effects on the environment. A policy reviewed of was conducted and identified that Nigeria’s Energy Policy has no technology listed to aggregate and deploy biogas as a tool for Nigeria’s climate goals and enhance energy access. This study aims to investigate through scientific and policy review of how biogas technology penetration could be legislated in the Nigeria energy policy. Works of literatures reviewed (over 70 scientific articles) revealed that policy among other factors is prominent as the main caveat that limits the penetration of biogas technology in many developing countries including Nigeria. Social acceptance, awareness and availability of feedstock are also regarded as part of the challenges facing adopting biogas technology as an alternative clean energy source. The current study has also presented a strategic policy framework that could be considered for biogas policy adoption. In addition, the study has revealed that identification and appropriate stakeholder consultation is key to enhance achieving a holistic policy that fully supports biogas technology in Nigeria. The study has provided robust policy recommendations for deploying biogas technology in the Nigeria energy policy.

Abstract Palm trees are multi-purpose species that are involved in several socio-economic and cultural aspects of Niger people. Indeed, palm trees significantly improve local population life. This study aims to assess the impact of future climate change on the geographical distribution of Borassus aethiopum Mart., Hyphaene thebaica (L.) Mart. and Phoenix dactylifera L. and to determine the suitable habitats for the conservation and sustainable management of these species in Niger. The maxEnt approach was used to model the species distribution. Four climatic models of CHELSA V2.1 were used: gfdl-esm4, ipsl-cm6a-lr, mpi-esm1-2h, mri-esm2-0 under two scenarios: ssp1-2.6 and ssp5-8.5 by periods 2011–2040 and 2041–2070. The mean AUC was 0.93 for Borassus aethiopum (0.93), 0.86 for Hyphaene thebaica, and 0.87 for Phoenix dactylifera. TSS test mean were 0.85, 0.69, and 0.75 respectively for Borassus aethiopum, Hyphaene thebaica, and Phoenix dactylifera. The current distribution for highly suitable habitats was 33,223 km2 (2.22%), 159,495 km2 (10.66%), and 108,189 km2 (7%) respectively for Borassus aethiopum, Hyphaene thebaica, and Phoenix dactylifera. The moderately suitable habitats were 83,019 km2 (5.55%) for Borassus aethiopum, 86,239 km2 (5.76%) for Hyphaene thebaica and 66,426 km2 (4%) Phoenix dactylifera. The lowly suitable habitats were 137,859 km2 (9.21%), 201,609 km2 (13.48%), and 333,181 km2 (22%) respectively Borassus aethiopum, Hyphaene thebaica, and Phoenix dactylifera. The highly and moderately suitable habitats for Borassus aethiopum will increase over the period 2011–2040 and 2041–2070. The highly suitable habitats of Hyphaene thebaica will be highly decreased by the period 2011–2040 and 2041–2070 than the other suitable habitats. All suitable habitats and all models of Phoenix dactylifera will decrease under the period 2041–2070. Phoenix dactylifera and Hyphaene thebaica will be much more affected by future climate change. This will also affect production rates for farmers in Niger.

The poem "أيا من يدعي الفهم" (O You Who Claims Understanding), created by Abu Muhammad Alqosim bin Ali al-Hariri, and later recited by the renowned qari’ Sheikh Mishary Rasyid, provoked various reactions among internet users. Hence, this research aims to analyze the stylistic elements of this poem. Qualitative descriptive methods and content analysis were employed in this study, collecting data through observation, note-taking, and purposive sampling techniques. The findings indicate that the poetic style creates effects such as enhancing faith, self-reflection, satire, and emotional impact. These effects are constructed through the following aspects: (1) phonological aspects, including the harmony of the rhyme at the end of verses and the use of specific rhythmic patterns (shawamit infijariyah and shawait qashirah); (2) Morphological aspects dominated by fi’il madhi and fi’il mudhari’, sarcastically criticizing individuals for their reprehensible actions, and fi’il amr and nahyi for advice and conclusion in the poem; (3) Syntactic aspects involving repetition and ellipsis for reinforcing and expanding on the subjects of criticism; (4) Semantic aspects employing unusual word meanings to captivate the audience's attention; and (5) Imagery aspects creating beauty and coherence through the use of assonance, alliteration, epithets, euphemisms, sarcasm, cynicism, and cause-and-effect coherence. The implications suggest that this work could serve as an alternative form of contemporary preaching (dakwah) and remains relevant in literary works within a modern context.

This article aims to explore the structure and meaning of unique Indonesian names, their origins, and the humor they encompass. The topic was selected due to its recent viral status on social media. Utilizing qualitative methods and library research, data were gathered from internet news articles and analyzed through theories of names and nicknames, humor, and Arabic and Islamic religion. These theoretical frameworks were particularly pertinent as the study revealed that many unique names are intricately linked to Islamic and Arabic elements. The findings suggest that the uniqueness of these names often arises from spontaneous selection, with minimal deliberation or understanding of the religious terms incorporated. Predominantly found among the lower-middle class, these names stand out due to their distinctiveness, which often elicits humor. The humorous aspects of these names can be categorized under incongruity theory and, in some cases, superiority theory. This research highlights the cultural and social dimensions of naming practices in Indonesia and their unintended comedic impact.
