The SARS-CoV-2 spread has impacted Healthcare systems. COVID-19 pandemic has had consequences for patients with cancer, being associated with delays in diagnosis, in treatment And follow-up care, increase in overall infection rates and higher mortality. A survey on COVID-19 and a vaccination-questionnaire were developed at different times of the outbreak, to evaluate cancer patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) on the policies implemented to reduce the infection from SARS-CoV-2 and on the timing and methods of COVID-19 vaccination.The survey was distributed to all patients accessing the Institute during the "first-wave" Of the pandemic, evaluating patients' concerns about the pandemic, the pandemics' consequences on their cancer care, and their perception Of the measures adopted to limit the infection spread. The vaccination-questionnaire was proposed to 10% of the first 5297 cancer patients vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTechCOVID-19 vaccine. This questionnaire aimed at assessing the degree Of satisfaction with the Institutional vaccination campaign and vaccination-related adverse events.From May 18th 2020 to June 15th 2020 the survey was completed by 3238 patients. Most of the responders expressed concern on the pandemic yet acknowledging their oncological disease as a priority. Measures implemented were appreciated by patients. Telemedicine was positively evaluated and the absence of the caregiver during the visit did not determine discomfort for two thirds of patients. From March 6th 2021 to May 8th 2021 the vaccination-questionnaire was completed by 357 patients. The 98.8% were satisfied with the vaccination campaign. No serious vaccination-correlated adverse events were reported. No patient had to delay/discontinue chemotherapy due to vaccination.PREMs during COVID-19 pandemic and related vaccination can provide important information to help reorganization of the health care systems for cancer care. Patients' feedback on the organizational changes implemented in the emergency period are essential for healthcare improvement and to help informed choices that are consistent with patients' needs.

Research has widely demonstrated that religiosity is related to psychological well-being even in situations of severe illness. To assess religious beliefs, explicit measures have generally been used. In this study, we measured the belief that God is reality as opposed to myth or abstraction by using an implicit technique (the Single Category Implicit Association Test). The study was carried out in Italy, where a large majority of the population is Catholic, and the prevailing image of God is that of a compassionate and supportive father. Participants were cancer patients identifying themselves as believers. As expected, the automatic belief that God is reality (vs. abstraction) was related to beneficial outcomes: lower reported psychophysical anxiety symptoms and a weaker use of avoidance strategies to cope with stress. Thus, also, automatic religious beliefs may affect feelings and behaviors.

10070 Background: Convergent findings indicate the need of broadening the vision of cancer beyond known prognostic factors, as many variables of different nature equally affect the course of disease. Loneliness has been found to be associated with various health outcomes, but its relationship with cancer remains unclear. Here we aimed to investigate the specific effect of loneliness and other demographic, psychological, and clinical variables on cancer mortality and to validate the Italian UCLA Loneliness Scale in cancer patients. Methods: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted at the Veneto Institute of Oncology in Padua. 400 patients undergoing chemotherapy from 01/2014 to 06/2015 were enrolled. The sample was stratified by sex and age (4 groups, 40-80 y). We collected demographic, clinical (site and stage of cancer, type of chemotherapy, death date), and psychosocial [self-esteem (RSE), perceived social support (MSPSS), social interaction anxiety (SIAS), personality (EPQR), and depression (BDI)] data. Results: GLM analyses: loneliness was higher in women than men (F(1,398) = 7.5, p = .006) and it linearly increased with age (F(1,398) = 10.9, p = .001). Loneliness was also influenced by marital status (F(3,396) = 2.9, p = .037), cohabitant offspring (F(1,398) = 7, p = .008), and educational level (F(3,396) = 4.7, p = .003), but not by clinical variables (all ps > .05). Correlation analyses: loneliness was inversely related to RSE (r = -.51), MSPSS (r = -.52), and extroversion (r = -.32), and directly related to SIAS (r = .46), neuroticism (r = .43), and BDI (r = .44). More importantly, a hierarchical binomial logistic regression revealed that patients’ mortality was reliably predicted by gender, stage of cancer at diagnosis, time from diagnosis to UCLA collection, BDI, and UCLA (HL χ2(8) = 3.53, p = .90). In particular, high BDI predicted higher mortality (Wald = 11.6, p < .001); surprisingly, after controlling for BDI and other effects, high loneliness predicted lower mortality (Wald = 7, p = .008). Conclusions: Our results replicate prior research and reveal a surprising association between loneliness and mortality risk after partialling out the impact of, especially, depression. This suggests the role of loneliness on cancer course as an important health concern.

Objective Assisting a patient with cancer implies assuming a role that may fit in with the previous role of the person or that may contrast with it, thereby provoking suffering. This research explores if it is possible to identify different profiles of caregivers on the basis of different levels of anxiety and depression as well as on different ways of distributing one's own dependency. Methods There were 50 Italian primary caregivers of patients with cancer who completed the Beck Anxiety Inventory, the Beck Depression Inventory-II, and Kelly's Dependency Grids. Cluster analysis was conducted on the indices derived from the three instruments. Results Three profiles were found on the basis of how the caregivers used their resources to give and to receive help. If there was congruence between the situation of giving help that the caregivers experienced and their personal role, then anxiety and depression decreased, otherwise, they increased. The implications of the balance/imbalance between the usual and the present role depended also on the typicality of the caregivers' experience, as related to their caring role. Conclusions These results suggest the usefulness of planning different kinds of support for different experiences of caregiving. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

To understand the complexity of the obese condition, this article reports all the aspects involved in the care and treatment of obese people. In the first part are retrieved practical, technical, and medical features. Even though it seems obvious, an adequate setting and devices are essential in the proper planning of care. Also a qualified and adequate medical team composed not only of medicals and nurses but other health professionals, such as dietitians, psychologists, and physical trainers, is fundamental. In the second part are examined the psychological aspects, both in the obese situation and during weight loss. Obese people present low self-esteem, a negative body image, depression, and anxiety. They are victims of discriminations, prejudice, and bullying. It is important, during weight loss, to help them to control their eating impulse, in particular the binge eating, and prevent relapse.
