BackgroundIn recent years, there have been many suggestions to use multimedia as a strategy to fully meet the educational needs of patients with peripherally inserted central catheters. However, the potential benefits remain unreliable in the literature. ObjectiveIn this study, we identified the potential benefits of multimedia-based home catheter management education in patients with peripherally inserted central catheters and discussed the clinical implications. MethodsWe performed systematic searches of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase Ovid, Medline, BioMed Central-cancer (BMC-cancer), ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases without date constraints until November 30, 2019. The methodological quality of the eligible studies was appraised using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Narrative synthesis of the study findings was conducted. ResultsA total of 6 intervention studies met the inclusion criteria, including 3 randomized controlled trials and 3 case-control studies/quasi-experimental studies. The studies included a total of 355 subjects, including a total of 175 in the multimedia groups and 180 in the control groups. We identified 4 potential benefits to patients: (1) improved knowledge, (2) increased satisfaction, (3) reduced incidence of catheter-related complications, and (4) reduced number of cases of delayed care after complications. ConclusionsThe current systematic review highlights the potential benefits of multimedia-based home catheter management education for patients with peripherally inserted central catheters.

Background: Breast cancer poses a significant public health challenge in Tanzania. Limited knowledge about breast cancer and negative attitudes toward screening practices contributes to delayed diagnoses and poorer patient outcomes. Catholic nuns, who are often nulliparous, represent a population with an increased risk of developing breast cancer. Despite this risk, they remain an understudied group regarding breast cancer awareness and screening practices. Objective: This study aimed to assess breast cancer knowledge and attitudes toward screening practices among Catholic nuns residing in Tanzania's Lake Zone. Study design: The study was a cross-sectional design. Methods: A total of 385 Catholic nuns participated in the study. To ensure a representative sample, nuns were chosen through simple random sampling, giving each Catholic nun an equal probability of being selected. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and then analyzed using STATA version 18.0. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to draw conclusions. In inferential statistics, logistic regression was used to test for associations between categorical variables. The test statistics were considered significant when the P -value was less than.05 at a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: This study enrolled 385 catholic nuns. 57.1% (95% CI, 52.0%-62.1%) of all surveyed catholic nuns had inadequate knowledge of breast cancer. Misconceptions also emerged as significant risk factors for inadequate knowledge. Thus, lack of awareness of breast cancer risk factors increased the odds by 5.57 times (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 5.57; 95% CI: 2.84-10.92; P <.001). In addition, believing cancer was not inheritable (AOR: 2.65; 95% CI: 1.14-6.15; P =.024), misperceiving oneself as being in a low-risk group (AOR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.03-2.66; P =.039), and underestimating the vulnerable age group (believing it is not above 40 years) (AOR: 2.60; 95% CI: 1.49-4.51; P =.001) were all significantly associated with higher odds of inadequate knowledge. Regarding the attitude toward breast cancer screening practices, 62.3% (95% CI, 57.3%-67.2%) of the catholic nuns had negative attitudes. Conclusion: These findings highlight the need for breast health intervention educational programs to improve breast cancer awareness among Catholic nuns. Such programs should address risk factors, symptoms, screening methods, and treatment options, dispelling misconceptions. Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. Breast cancer screening programs are widely promoted because of their effectiveness in the early detection of cancer. However, a significant proportion of eligible Catholic nuns in the Lake Zone of Tanzania remain underscreened. This study is aimed at investigating the factors associated with breast cancer screening uptake among Catholic nuns in Lake Zone, Tanzania. Methods: This was a cross‐sectional study design among 385 catholic nuns. Simple random sampling was deployed to enrolled catholic nuns, the ODK collect v2023.2.4 was electronically used to collect data. Binary logistic regression was used to assess the factors associated with the uptake of breast cancer screening. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA 18.0, with a significance level set at a p value less than 0.05. Result: The prevalence uptake of breast cancer screening (i.e., breast self‐examination, clinical examination, or mammography examination) was 64% (n = 247, 95% CI, 59.3%–68.9%). A total of 57.4% had inadequate knowledge on the uptake of breast cancer screening (n = 221, 95% CI, 52.4%–62.4%). Also, the study found that 61.3% (95% CI, 56.4%–66.2%) of Catholic Nuns have negative attitudes towards the uptake of self‐breast examination among Catholic nuns. The findings revealed that 55.6% (n = 133, 95% CI, 50.6%–60.6%) and 52.7% (n = 52.7%, 95% CI, 47.7%–57.7%) of Catholic nuns negatively accept breast cancer screening and self‐breast examination, respectively. Nuns aged above 60 years were less likely to not perform BCS with a COR of 0.62 (95% CI, 0.39–0.97). Also, Catholic nuns who are in the nonhealth field are more likely to not perform BCS with a COR of 1.71 (95%, 1.07–2.74). Likewise, Catholic nuns who had negative acceptability of the Self‐breast examination were more likely to not perform BCS with an AOR of 1.65 (95% CI, 1.07–2.55). Conclusion: A study found a low uptake of breast cancer screening among Catholic nuns. This highlights the need for breast health intervention programs within religious congregations to address misconceptions and promote early detection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Early breast cancer detection is crucial for improving breast cancer outcomes. Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is a valuable tool that can empower Catholic nuns to take charge of their health, particularly in constrained resource countries like Tanzania. This study aims to use the Health Belief Model (HBM) to predict SBE practices among Catholic nuns in Tanzania's Lake Zone. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design whereby a total of 385 catholic nuns were enrolled to participate in the study. The Health Beliefs Model (HBM) guided the study of the interrelated variables related to self-breast examination. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using Stata version 18.0. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to test for association at a 5% significant level. Results: The prevalence of non-performance self-breast examination was 64.2% (95% CI, 59.1%-69.0%). The multivariate logistic regression revealed that nuns who are in the non-health field were more likely not to perform self-breast cancer examination with an AOR of 1.67 (95% CI, 1.02-2.73, p=0.041). Likewise, nuns with high barrier were more likely not to perform self-breast cancer examination with an AOR of 1.88 (95% CI, 1.17-3.02, p=0.009), also, an AOR of 2.25 (95% CI, 1.39-3.65, p=0.001) for nuns with low self-efficacy. Conclusion: The study revealed that the HBM constructs can predict the SBE behavior of catholic nuns. In addition, educational health interventions are highly recommended to enhance SBE practice among this special group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Emerging evidence suggests that peroxisomes play a role in the regulation of tumorigenesis and cancer progression. However, the prognostic value of peroxisome-related genes has been rarely investigated. This study aimed to establish a peroxisome-related gene signature for overall survival (OS) prediction in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). First, univariate Cox regression analysis was employed to identify prognostic peroxisome-related genes in The Cancer Genome Atlas liver cancer cohort, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression analysis was used to construct a 10-gene signature. The risk score based on the signature was positively correlated with poor prognosis (HR = 4.501, 95% CI = 3.021-6.705, P  = 1.39e-13). Second, multivariate Cox regression incorporating additional characteristics revealed that the signature was an independent predictor. Time-dependent ROC curves demonstrated good performance of the signature in predicting the OS of HCC patients. The prognostic performance was validated using International Cancer Genome Consortium HCC cohort data. Gene set enrichment analysis revealed that the signature-related alterations in biological processes mainly involved peroxisomal functions. Finally, we developed a nomogram model based on the gene signature and TNM stage, which showed a superior prognostic power (C-index = 0.702).
