Context: Flossing is still a relatively new technique that has yielded varied results in the research literature; therefore, it requires further investigation. Previous research has shown that thigh tissue flossing might improve performance in countermovement jump, sprint time, maximum voluntary contraction, and rate of force development. Design. The present study aims to investigate the effect of the floss band on performance during the Wingate test (30-WAT), muscle oxygen saturation (SpO2), and total hemoglobin in vastus lateralis. Methods: Twenty-two students of physical education and sport (11 men and 11 women) were randomly selected to complete either the Wingate test with the application of a floss band in warm-up or the Wingate test without the use of a floss band, followed by the alternative 24 hours apart. Results: Throughout the testing, the floss band did not affect performance values during the Wingate test (relative peak power, relative average power, and fatigue index). However, there was a medium to large effect difference during 1 minute prior to 30-WAT (PRE), during the 30-WAT, and 10-minute recovery (REC) in values of SpO2 and total hemoglobin. Use of floss band displayed a higher SpO2 during PRE, 30-WAT, and REC by ~13.55%, d<2; ~19.06%, d = 0.89; and ~8.55%, d = 0.59, respectively. Conclusion: Collectively, these findings indicate that the application of thigh flossing during warm-up has no effect on 30-WAT performance; however, SpO2 was significantly increased in all stages of testing. This could lead to potential improvement in repeated anaerobic exercise due to increased blood flow. Increased muscle oxygen saturation can also lead to improved tissue healing as oxygen supply is essential for tissue repair, wound healing, and pain management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Strength differences between performance levels remain unclear in female football. Furthermore, the relationship between fulltime training and strength has been unexplored despite increased professionalisation in the sport. OBJECTIVE: The aims of this research were to examine knee flexor/extensor and hip adductor/abductor strength differences between elite and sub-elite female footballers, and then determine the relationship of strength performance to age, years of football experience (FE), and years of fulltime training (FTT). METHODS: 15 elite and 15 sub-elite professional female footballers were tested. The main outcomes were concentric isokinetic knee flexor and extensor peak moment at 60, 180, and 300 ∘ /s, and isometric hip adductor (ADD) and abductor (ABD) force. RESULTS: The elite team had higher absolute (300 ∘ /s: 47.13–49.33 Nm vs 37.33–38.93 Nm, p < 0.05) and normalised (300 ∘ /s: 0.76–0.80 Nm/kg vs 0.59–0.62 Nm/kg, p < 0.05) knee flexor values, and higher normalised ADD (5.64–5.66 N/kg vs 4.98–5.05 N/kg, p < 0.05) and ABD force (5.80–6.00 N/kg vs 5.26–5.39 N/kg, p < 0.05), compared to the sub-elite team. Age, FE, and FTT were correlated to knee flexor values (r = 0.381–0.559, p < 0.05). Additionally, FTT was correlated with normalised ADD and ABD force (r = 0.362–0.546, p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Sub-elite female footballers may require additional knee flexor and hip strengthening in order to make the step up to the elite level. Those who are younger or have low FTT may also be recommended additional lower limb strengthening ahead of joining a fulltime training environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study summarises Czech and partially Polish texts on medieval and early modern rituals which have been written in the last three decades. The historiographical preoccupation with rituals and ceremonies is subject to criticism, or it is related to the developments in recent European historiography. We can conclude that both Czech and Polish historians primarily focused on the rituals of the monarchy, which they viewed from the perspective of the main actor, i.e., the king, and considered them a reflection of the political power. Contrary to anthropologists, who are interested in cultural meanings and categories, historians leaned more towards a socio-historical perspective. Descriptions, which partly result in the confirmation of the main actors' positions of power and partly in an insight into the everyday life and material culture of the power elite, are prominent in the texts. The overall result is a rather reduced reception of anthropological perspective in the analysis of ritual. The current knowledge, essentially dependent on the quality of the existing sources, could be expanded by taking inspiration from spatial studies, e.g., methods developed in recent archaeology, as the conclusion of the study shows. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of morning and evening movement intervention on the following indicators of body composition: ratio (extracellular mass/body cell mass [ECM/BCM]), phase angle (PA), muscle mass (MM), and percentage of total body fat mass (FM%) in university female students with neutral chronotype who perform exercise in the morning (morning group [MG], n = 25, or evening (evening group [EG], n = 26). Statistical analysis did not show significant differences between the MG and EG: ECM/BCM, MGPRE-POST -0.001 ± 0.10 vs. EGPRE-POST -0.03 ± 0.07, t = -1.121, p > 0.05, d = 0.16; PA, MGPRE-POST 0.18 ± 0.29 vs. EGPRE-POST -0.28 ± 0.31, t = 1.201, p > 0.05, d = 0.17; MM, MGPRE-POST 0.3 ± 1.2 vs. EGPRE-POST 0.4 ± 1.0, t = 0.081, p > 0.05, d = 0.01; FM%, MGPRE-POST -0.04 ± 1.5 vs. EGPRE-POST -0.2 ± 1.3, t = -0.307, p > 0.05, d = 0.04.
