TrichoScan® was used to evaluate the efficacy of the test product for improving hair growth rate, hair density, anagen hair, telogen hair, and the density of vellus and terminal hair. Hair thinning and hair fall reduction were compared to its basline by both dermatologists and subject self-assessment questionnaires.Result and Discussion: After 90 days of test product application, there was a significant improvement in hair growth rate (< 0.0001), hair density (< 0.0001), vellus hair density (< 0.0001), and terminal hair density (< 0.0001) in comparison to baseline. There was a significant reduction in hair fall with bulb (< 0.0001) and without bulb (< 0.0001), and hair thinning (< 0.0001) compared to the baseline measurement. Adverse events were not recorded during the study. Natural extracts have been extensively used to reduce the signs of ageing in recent years. Pterostilbene is a natural analog of resveratrol with therapeutic properties against numerous diseases mainly due to its ability to reduce reactive oxygen species.Methods: We studied the anti-aging and skin brightening effect of a 0.4% formulation of natural pterostilbene in healthy volunteers (N=38) in an open-label, single-arm, monocentric study for 8 weeks. The melanogenesis inhibitory, anti-tyrosinase and anti-collagenase and anti-elastase properties of pterostilbene were evaluated in vitro.Results: Natural pterostilbene showed significant inhibition of melanogenesis in vitro. Pterostilbene cream (0.4%) was highly effective in reducing markers of aging and induces even skin tone. The product was effective in reducing wrinkles and fine lines, improved skin hydration elasticity and showed no adverse effects.Conclusion: Our results suggest that natural pterostilbene is a safe and effective ingredient for use in cosmetic preparation to reduce the markers of skin ageing and brighten the skin tone.Trial Registration: Clinical Trial Registration India Identifier CTRI/2019/01/017160 [Registered on 18/01/2019].Keywords: natural pterostilbene, Pterocarpus marsupium, skin brightening, antiaging

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered catastrophic impacts on human life, but at the same time demonstrated positive impacts on air quality. In this study, the impact of COVID-19 lockdown interventions on five major air pollutants during the pre-lockdown, lockdown, and post-lockdown periods is analysed in three urban areas in Northern England: Leeds, Sheffield, and Manchester. A Generalised Additive Model (GAM) was implemented to eliminate the effects of meteorological factors from air quality to understand the variations in air pollutant levels exclusively caused by reductions in emissions. Comparison of lockdown with pre-lockdown period exhibited noticeable reductions in concentrations of NO (56.68–74.16%), NO2 (18.06–47.15%), and NOx (35.81–56.52%) for measured data. However, PM10 and PM2.5 levels demonstrated positive gain during lockdown ranging from 21.96–62.00% and 36.24–80.31%, respectively. Comparison of lockdown period with the equivalent period in 2019 also showed reductions in air pollutant concentrations, ranging 43.31–69.75% for NO, 41.52–62.99% for NOx, 37.13–55.54% for NO2, 2.36–19.02% for PM10, and 29.93–40.26% for PM2.5. Back trajectory analysis was performed to show the air mass origin during the pre-lockdown and lockdown periods. Further, the analysis showed a positive association of mobility data with gaseous pollutants and a negative correlation with particulate matter.

Background: The artificial induction of mutations represents an efficient tool in creating genetic variations. For this reason, the current study was carried out in the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory/Genetic Engineering Institute to induce genetic diversity for salt tolerance in two local cultivars of bread wheat (Al-Iraq and Tamooz 2) using in vitro application of sodium azide (SA). Objective: Immature seeds from both cultivars subjected to 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 Mm of SA to determine the optimal concentration for developing novel mutants. Materials and methods: The optimal dose of SA mutagen was found to be 2.0 mM, resulting in a 42% reduction in callus fresh and dry weight. The developed callus was subjected to five different salinity levels using NaCl (6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 dS m-1). Results: Mutants showed a significant decrease in the percentage of regenerated plants under salinity stress conditions. The used SSR markers approved the genetic diversity between the original and the mutants of the two cultivars (Al-Iraq and Tamooz 2) growing under normal and salinity stress. The presences and the absence of some fragments was prominent in plants derived from immature embryos of the two cultivars tested in salinity conditions. The used SSR markers (cfd 9, cfd4, cfd1 wmc405, PYL5, HKT1, HVA1 and htk1) were so efficient in distinguishing between the original and tissue culture-derived plants. Furthermore, the experienced SA levels induced a higher rate of mutant alleles in cv. Conclusion: Al-Iraq with 19 mutant alleles than Tamooz 2 which showed only 13 mutant alleles. The current study represents an additional prove to the effectiveness of mutagens and tissue culture technique in developing novel variants with improved performance under stress conditions.

Background: The workplace is an ideal—and priority—setting for health promotion activities. Developing and implementing workplace health promotion interventions, including oral health promotion activities, can help create health‐supporting workplace environments. Objective: To pilot workplace oral health promotion activities among staff working in the aged care sector, report their impact and explore participants' views on the factors that contribute to participation and effectiveness. Methods: This study comprised three phases: (i) the development and face validation of the resources, (ii) a 3‐h educational session and (iii) five interview sessions with participants 4–6 weeks following the education session. The recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed thematically. Results: Eleven community‐aged care workforce were invited to five feedback sessions. Ten participants were female and ranged in age from 18 to 64. All participants gave favourable comments about the content and delivery of the training session and accompanying resources. The participants felt that the benefits of WOHP include improved staff knowledge, awareness and oral care routine, the ability to share (and put into practice) the gained knowledge and information with their dependants, a lower risk of having poor oral health that adversely affects their well‐being and work tasks, and potentially beneficial impacts on the organization's staff roster. Their attendance in the WOHP was facilitated by being paid to attend and scheduling the sessions during work time. Future WOHP suggestions include the possibility of a one‐stop dental check‐up at the workplace or staff dental care discounts from local dental practitioners and combining oral health with other health promotion activities. Conclusions: Planning and implementing WOHP was deemed acceptable and feasible in this study context and successfully achieved short‐term impacts among community‐aged care workers. Appropriate times and locations, organizational arrangements and a variety of delivery options contributed to successful programme planning and implementation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A permanent cell line, SPB (Snubnose pompano brain) was established from Trachinotus blochii by the explant culture method. It has been sub‐cultured more than 75 passages and showed optimal growth at 28°C using L‐15 medium supplemented with 15% to 20% FBS. The SPB cells were cryopreserved at different passage levels for various applications. SPB cells were composed of fibroblastic and epithelial‐like cells. The SPB cells were tested for mycoplasma contamination which was found to be negative. The origin of the SPB cell line from T. blochii was confirmed by amplification of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene. The transfection efficiency of SPB cell line is 15% assessed by expression of green fluorescent protein using pEGFP‐N1 plasmid. In addition, two CMV promotor plasmids pFNCPE42‐DNA and pcDNAVP28 were transfected to SPB cells and it shows high expression levels of FNCP of fish nodavirus and VP28 protein of white spot syndrome virus by immunostaining. The SPB cells showed susceptibility to SJNNV and the infection was confirmed by RT‐PCR, Western blot, ELISA, TCID50 and RT‐qPCR. Experimental infection was carried out in T. blochii using SJNNV propagated in SPB cell line and found 100% mortality with clinical signs. The infection was confirmed by RT‐PCR. The SPB cell line can be used for propagation of fish viral pathogens and production of the recombinant proteins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Sudden out‐of‐hospital cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in industrialized nations. Many of these lives could be saved if bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation rates were better. “All citizens of the world can save a life—CHECK—CALL—COMPRESS.” With these words, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation launched the 2019 global “World Restart a Heart” initiative to increase public awareness and improve the rates of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation and overall survival for millions of victims of cardiac arrest globally. All participating organizations were asked to train and to report the numbers of people trained and reached. Overall, social media impact and awareness reached up to 206 million people, and >5.4 million people were trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation worldwide in 2019. Tool kits and information packs were circulated to 194 countries worldwide. Our simple and unified global message, “CHECK—CALL—COMPRESS,” will save hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide and will further enable many policy makers around the world to take immediate and sustainable action in this most important healthcare issue and initiative.
